Cool spot! I went here with my boyfriend on a whim and we both really enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere, good beer and food selection. My boyfriend is obsessed with breweries and loved this one. I'm not a fan of beer but was delighted to see that they had plenty of options for me as well. We started out with the shareable nachos with pulled chicken and they were decent. The nachos were pretty hard though so I probably wouldn't order this again. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich with their homemade potato chips. The sandwich was very tasty and the chips really hit the spot. I've never seen potato chips with pepper but I was pleasantly surprised with how good they were. My boyfriend ordered the Wake & Bake pizza. He was a little thrown off by the runny eggs but quickly got past that and enjoyed it. We visited a month or so for an outdoor brunch before the weather really turned and found a spacious, distanced patio that made us feel safe. I've visited here many times over the years and have always enjoyed the beer and food. Sometimes service is slow or impersonal, but for the most part this is a solid happy hour spot. Was , one of my family's favorite brewery/restaurant, until a chance run in with one of the owners. Several weeks ago, as we were walking into the building, we were approached by a middle aged woman outside. We were told , No balls. No balls in the building. My son was carrying a soccer ball. I guess it's a new policy at the restaurant. It's not so much the policy, but the tone and demeanor of the owner as she spoke to us as though we were beneath her. Inside the restaurant, a note card was placed on our table saying no balls, stuffed animals and several other things that made me realize they do not want families there. We have supported this business since the day they opened. Sent friends and family there, saying it's a wonderful family place. Come for the beer, not the food. The food menu is very ambitious, it sounds amazing on paper. I've come multiple times always hoping it gets better, it never does. The only items I would order are the Nachos and Charcuterie, nothing else. The last food item I got there was the BBQ Mac. The Mac&Cheese portion was cold and flavorless. The Pulled Pork was also cold and had no flavor other than the bbq sauce they put on it. The onion straws were nasty, rubbery and tasted liked they were cooked 4 days ago and held in a storage container for way too long. This is exactly what the South Hills needed! I really love this place. The atmosphere is really cool with the inside and outside as seating options, as well as the bar. Immediately you notice the coal fire oven which is so cool! The food is excellent. Every time I've gone, I have never been let down. You cannot go wrong with their wings or pizza. The wings are smoky which I love. And they have such an array of options for pizza. Always try the specials, they're so delicious. The gyro pizza was very good. Also their smoked meats are great! I got the 1/2 of turkey and it was so tasty and not dry at all, however, the cornbread is way too dense and dry sadly but collard greens wonderful. Me lady got the margarita pizza and it was exactly that a margarita pizza but it was very delicious you know when you want a wood fired brick oven pizza and then you go to a restraunt and they deliver it - that is just that. I got the bbq chicken pizza was only going to have two slices and save the rest for later and ended up eating all but two slices because it was so delicious - spoonwood is also the first place that really opened my eyes to me maybe being lactose intolerant! but that is here nor there because at the end of the day this is some dang good pizza with excellence service, outdoor seating, and live music potential! I mean what is not to love. We did dock one star because spoonwood sells BBQ items and so you would naturally think oh a BBQ restraunt they would probably have good corn bread well todays batch of corn bread was dry, it was really dry - it felt like it could be bird food like when you let bread sit out for a while and its just stale, well that was the how the corn bread was, probably not suitable for birds... BBQ sauce couldn't even moisten it up like it would get stuck in your throat not good. But other than that spoonwood was excellent and I would highly recommend. read more

We got the nachos for the table to share and it was a huge portion perfect for sharing and it was yummy!!! I suggest you get there with plenty of time to wait if you go during peak hours. There's tons of seating inside and out but it's very popular so expect as wait to get there early. Server was so kind and helpful, very much appreciated. I finally found a beer I actually enjoyed. The streusel! It's a cherry beer with notes of cinnamon. It was definitely sweet, so it's not for everyone, but I loved it. I tried the sample first, which was a nice option. I really enjoyed the jam burger. I'm loving all of these jams lately, and the onion jam on this burger was everything I was hoping for. The house made chips were also delicious-definitely had a sweet onion taste to them. Luckily we came here around 5 pm on a Friday night, so we were able to snag a barrel with a few chairs, but even at 5 we were quoted a 30 min wait for a table. There is also an outside patio area which is a great place to have some drinks and food in the summer. They also have some great servers. Jenna and Jess are two that we have often and they are always super friendly and helpful. With respect to the drinks at Spoonwood, they have some great house brewed beers. The Killer Diller IPA and the Cloud Trip IPA's are two of my favorites. The food they offer is also delicious. Sometimes the food can be an afterthought at breweries, but Spoonwood has some of the best food in the area. Their wood fired pizzas are amazing. I have had most of them, but my favorite is the James the Brewer pizza. It is a version of a buffalo chicken pizza with some twists. It comes with buffalo sauce, pulled chicken, potatoes wedges, onions, and pickles. The flavors on this pizza come together perfectly and it has an incredible taste. An excellent place to come for Covid Lunch on a hot summer day! They have some nice outdoor seating in the back. We sat inside because, well, air conditioning. Everyone working was wearing masks. We were asked to keep out on unless seated. Beer was yummy, I had the Working Class Hero which is a nice lighter beer. It really paired well with the bbq pork mac and cheese I had. On and this was heavenly. Who knew that fried onion straws would work on top, but they did. Pork was tender and the bbq flavor was good. My girl loved her pepperoni pizza. Lots of good pepperoni. Can't speak highly enough about Spoonwood brewing!! My fiancé and I live about 5 minutes from the brewery and are here every other week if not, every week. The staff is always super friendly and even with how busy they always are, the wait is never horrible and totally worth it! The killer diller is usually my go to beer but I always like to try the new IPA if they have one on the menu. The pretzels and cheese, and nachos are great, sharable apps. The pizzas are 10/10, we love the margarita, James the brewer, rolls Royce and wake and bake. The farmhouse salad with chicken is also delicious! They have one of the best ranch dressings! Love this place for a date night or a chill night with a group of friends. Atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing, great place to grab a tasty craft beer!! read more

Top notch food with good beer! Very good Ragu, definitely would recommend. The appetizers were great. The only downside is the cost of the salad with the added salmon - very very solid salad and salmon but it was still more on the expensive side, especially when compared to the other entree. Extremely family friendly restaurants, and the call ahead waitlist helps you to cut down your wait time at the restaurant! Over the summer they have an open play area for kids, which is really good for kids to play and still be fenced in. Would totally come back again even though we live almost an hour away! read more

Spoonwood remains one of my favorite places in the South Hills. It's a great spot for a first date... just make sure he knows the difference between Mindful and Spoonwood. Classic South Hills mix-up. Food-wise, I'm a fan of the pretzel sticks (beer cheese FTW) and the James The Brewer pie. The latter combines buffalo chicken and pickles on their perfect wood-fired crust. It might sound like a quirky combination as you're reading over the menu but trust me that it's a pleasant powerhouse of flavor. If you're looking to keep it simple, the Pretty Fly For a White Pie is a no-frills white pizza topped with cherry tomatoes and basil. The last time I was here, we ended up asking for crushed red pepper and Parmesan to kick it up another level. Now, of course you need something to wash all that carbohydrate deliciousness down with, right? I love the Cold Drip City brew and their riff on the Moscow Mule. Can't decide? Order an array of samples and find your favorite! They do get pretty busy during the dinner rush, especially if you're in the market for outdoor seating, but I've always been seated in less time than originally quoted. We came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon after an appointment nearby. We actually passed it by the first time because it sits a bit back from the road. Once we pulled into the lot I was delighted with the enormous space and the clean modern look of the outside that continues to flow right on into the entrance, bar, and table area. This space was open, airy, but industrial and chic looking. I loved the look. We decided to sit at the bar and grab a couple of beers. I decided on the Killer Diller IPA. It was great. Refreshing, hoppy but not overpowering. I perused the menu for some time before I decided to try a dish from their smoker. Several things sounded delicious but I was pretty hungry and wanted a meal that would stick with me for a while. I went with the one meat, two sides which were ale brined half chicken, with roasted potato wedges, cornbread, and pickled vegetable collard greens. I can't recall the price but it was reasonable especially for the amount of food. We enjoyed some more beers and atmosphere while waiting. Upon arrival my food look awesome. I dove right in, and the bartender introduced a few sauces to sample with your meal. I tried the spicy one and found it to my liking. The chicken was nice and moist on the dark meat side but a little dry on the breast. This required some sauce, and the problem was averted. The flavor of the meat was really smokey true BBQ. The sides were a little disappointing but not a wash. The collard greens could have used a little more salt and I like them cooked down a little more, they were a tad crunchy. And the potatoes would have benefited from being left in the oven a little longer. A few were a bit hard and one was raw in the center. It was only one so no need to send them back based off one but still a little inconsistency. Overall, great lunch, good food, awesome beer and interior. I also noticed the open outdoor seating that would be perfect in the summer. I really can't wait to come back. Oh how I wish you were closer Spoonwood! read more
