I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.

The housemade orecchiette with lamb sausage ragu was meaty and savory. So good. Finished the evening with two desserts. The chocolate cake and beignets. I love the combination of chocolate and berries. The dense chocolatey cake was served with strawberry ice cream and a sweet raspberry sauce. The warm sugared beignets were light and fluffy and soaked up the milk jam. Yum! A delicious evening and I would love to come back!!

Our first serving was so hard it was nearly inedible, and the only refill we received was just as bad. I also ordered the spinach risotto, which was slightly better than the steak, but it was so salty I couldn't finish it. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

This was the third time we'd been there. Food has always been good. Usually a short wait on weekends. It is true that you only get one refill of coffee. I would be more than happy to pay for a second cup if I wanted more than the first refill to support a local business. This time we were never looked at after the food was dropped off until the bill was brought. Other tables got refills of coffee. Our cups remained empty for the entire meal. I guess I should have spoken up, but you'd think the waitress would have stopped by while refilling other tables. The young dark-haired waitress usually does a very good job. We will probably not be back for a while. Just remember to speak up if you're not getting good service. read more

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! I have gone there many times now and I am never disappointed. I have had several items off the breakfast and lunch menu, but the the pastrami sandwich is my favorite. Every time I get it, the quality is consistent and it is delicious! I also love the French toast which I get frequently. It is a small, cute place so sometimes I have to wait for a seat if I come during the busy times, but it's always worth it. I picked up a bunch of muffins to bring into the office last week and everyone at work thought they were great. I love having a place nearby that I can look forward to going to! read more

I agree with most of the reviews that the food is excellent. I have been there about 10 times and have always been happy except that I usually leave hungry. We were asked whether we preferred a table or a booth, which I always appreciate, and we chose the latter. My first impression was that the open dining room was very loud. The noise was amplified by a party of about 10 people to our left and the ambient bar and TV noise to our right. Our friendly waiter arrived immediately, as did water and menus. Service started off nicely and remained good throughout our lunch. I wish I could say the same for the food. I was considering the Salmon Poke Bowl, but our waiter explained that the salmon wasn't served sushi-style, so we both ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl ($23.95). The bowls arrived in about 15 minutes, with the wasabi dressing on the side as requested, although technically the cup was placed inside the bowl. The portion was substantial and included seaweed salad, some avocado and a generous amount of grain. Unfortunately, the tuna had a noticeably fishy taste and an unappealing texture. Very disappointing. I left much of it untouched, along with quite a few of the other ingredients. When our waiter asked whether I wanted to take the remainder home, my answer was definitely no. Would I return? Probably not. I'd be more inclined to try some of the other restaurants in the area in search of better-executed cuisine.

The layout also feels a bit weird, with tables and group activities (ping pong, etc) making for awkward paths and not a lot of intermingling. Finally, I didn't try any food on my visit, but it was funny to see the interior get pretty smoky at times; maybe a new ventilation system is overdue.
