I've gone here about 8 times. Ordered out 6 of those times and sat down 2. 3 of those 8 orders were charged incorrectly. 2 of those orders didn't have all my food that I ordered in them (sadly I didn't think to check to make sure they did their jobs correctly). Service is a little on the slower side, but the spot itself is very quaint and has a nice atmosphere on the inside. The food is pretty good, especially the Spot Fries, and the prices are moderately fair. Just wish they could get their act together: write down the order correctly and make the correct food, and charge the correct amount. read more

My daughter and I went here today and loved it. We were greeted warmly by the host and sat in the cozy corner next to the window. My 4 year old ordered a chocolate chip smiley pancake and loved it. My food was also delicious! Our waitress, who I think was the owner, was very friendly to my family. Our bill came out to $15 (pancake + juice + my meal). We both left very full! read more

I had a lovely meal here this morning. I left Central Rock Gym feeling STARVING and Yelp told me to come here, just a few minutes from the gym. It's a nice small cafe with a warm feeling of home. They were busy and only had one server working the room but I wasn't in a rush. I went for the omelet sandwich with a side of home fries. It was HUGE and awesome! The croissant was buttery, flakey and perfect. The omelet was enormous and stretched out past the sides. I had both bacon and sausage in it, the sausage in particular had excellent flavor. The home fries were great, with a portion so big that I took the extras home for my pup. The one woman working the room was friendly and did a great job balancing all of her responsibilities. This was the closest thing to (the original) Madeleine's that we've had in the Cambridge area, BUT the progenitor of this joint sold it ... The new owners are nice, and good cooks, but they've brought a somewhat Mediterranean (Italian and Greek) influence in and the French influence is but a shadow now. We went on a Sunday afternoon, around 11AM. The first thing about it, and the reason it's not 5-star, there was no real order in waiting for a table. There is a tiny "hall" barely big enough for 2 people to stand side-by-side. After we waited for about 5 minutes, a waitress hurriedly asked for a name and how many. She then scurried off without another word. I understand that it's busy, but even if it's a lie, "It'll be just another 5 minutes" would have been nice. Ok, the decor is pretty nice. Lots of poetic quotes and black and white photos of Paris on the walls. There are teapots and nick-nacks everywhere giving it a very homely feel. So, we are seated at a small table, barely big enough for one, let alone two and we start perusing the menus. I ordered a plate of the basics: 2 eggs, bacon, toast, home fries, and coffee. My partner in crime ordered a ham, egg and cheese on toast sandwich. "Wait a second. The coffee has a limit to 1 refill?" Yeah, you read that right. "This coffee better be pretty good." 1st cup went down like a champ, nice and smooth, very flavorful but not like it was burned. I made a mental note to enjoy the 2nd with the meal. The food came out quickly and done just right. The eggs were nice and runny, the homefries were warmed through and the bacon was pressed flat and crispy with just enough chew to it. Everything was done right, the way it should be; spot on and quick. As for the toast.....well, it made the breakfast. It was crunchy and hot with a great flavor, almost like a very mild sourdough. Add a little butter and a bit of grape jelly and you'll be in heaven. The sandwich was just great, done well and on their house bread. We paid and left just as quickly as we had come. The Wrap-up: Good food fast (as far as breakfast goes). Home-made bread to die for, and a decent cup of coffee at a reasonable price. read more

Going out for brunch can have it hazards...you know you've done it and completely overindulged with the waffles with the whipped cream and strawberries and all that jazz and never really taste the food-OR-you can go to a place like the Spot Cafe and experience well prepared and simply delicious food. I would dare to say each item was cooked to perfection. The cinnamon french toast didn't need whipped cream or anything else. It was perfect with some real butter (yay!) and syrup. The bacon was crispy and a generous portion. The homefries were expertly sized and seasoned. My husband added some salt, but I enjoyed the fact that they weren't too greasy or salty. Finally, the pancakes were outstanding with that crispy edge and fluffy center. They were so huge we gasped as they were put on the table. But they were far from heavy. Overall, nothing fancy just really, really good well cooked food. And at $7 for french toast, bacon and homefries you just can't beat it. read more

A very unassuming and tiny place with great soups and a tomato, basil, mozz on bagette to DIE for. My mother in law comes here often and we hang out (yeah you read right, MOTHER in LAW, son! - She is awesome!) And we finally were able to come and have a bite to eat here and it was everything she raved about. The owners are super friendly and the decor is lovely and welcoming. After living around the corner from The Spot for 3 years, I just finally walked in for the first time. After a hearty walk around the Charles, I was feeling hungry and needed my first dose of coffee. Inside and out, The Spot is very cute, with a Parisian decor - lots of those french sayings on pieces of wood that you might find at Target, little statues of the Eiffel Tower, etc. Not too much, but just enough to give it a small, cozy, homey feel. There are maybe six tables, so it's definitely cozy, but on this weekday morning at around 9:00am, there was only one person in there. I ordered to go, so I just got the Breakfast Quickie, which is an omelet sandwich. They do offer full breakfast with pancakes, french toast, omelets, Eggs any style, bagels, muffins, etc. on the menu as well as sandwiches and soups for lunch. Everything sounded great and I'm sure I'll be back to try everything else. The family that runs this place seems very nice. While others have mentioned that coffee is limited to one refill and there is a $10 minimum for credit card purchases, I didn't mind because I was happy to support the local business. If you don't have the volume of a place like Dunkin Donuts, you might not be able to offer everything free. Anyway, I ate my Quickie when I got home and it was truly the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. Despite looking a little like the McDonald's egg and cheese biscuit in the picture, this was nothing close. I ordered it on a breakfast roll, which was square, and the egg was a true omelet and tasted like one. With bacon and melted American cheese, it was simply delicious. I've never realized how tasteless and bland a McDonald's egg biscuit or egg mcmuffin is until now. I will definitely come back here since I live so close. I've been several times for breakfast on a weekday before 9. It's a great find. Good food, easy place to find, ample and easy parking next to and behind the restaurant. It's small, so I don't know about lunchtime or weekends. I've had the blueberry pancakes, and sausage, and the servings are large, served warm, and delicious. Service was fast and pleasant. My only complaint was service- do not go if you are in a hurry. We found ourselves at Spot Cafe because of the good Yelp rating. The place is well decorated and cozy. It appears to seat about 15... maybe 20 max. We got there around 10 on a Sunday and sat right down, but after 10 minutes of so there was a line out the door - beginners luck, I suppose. We had the worst possible table in the place, situated in the corner near the refrigerated case, with patrons bumping into my chair and me squished up against the small table, but I'm not going to let that influence my review. The wait staff/owners/cook are all very friendly and they took care of us right away. We ordered cappuccino, which took about 10 minutes to make. It was not good, more like warmed milk with a hint of coffee flavor. I suppose you're taking a big risk when ordering cappuccino in a breakfast place, but hey, we threw the dice. Pro-tip: get the standard coffee. The food is good. Maybe four stars. I got pancakes, they were A-OK. Home fries were very good, crispy and cooked perfectly... but they needed a hint more flavor. The wife got an omelet with feta and tomatoes... it was very good. No food complaints, though I would have liked an option to get real maple syrup (at additional cost) because I think I've gotten to the point in my life where I just can't do the maple flavored corn syrup. Overall, this place would get a 3.5 star review if you could go half stars, but it I just couldn't bump it to 4. We live so close to this place it's hard to pass up after sleeping in and we are downright hangry. The menu is pretty static and short so if you've been here before going again isn't going to be much of a surprise, but the food is all pretty good. My one complaint is they need to mix up the breakfast menu. I must have had the Luba omelette (pastrami) a dozen times. Last time I went in I noticed a few new faces serving and behind the counter... The Spot has really great food. My wife, two kids and I have been here for a Saturday brunch twice (once take out and once dine in). You have to get the Natalia (French Toast, Home Fries, and your choice of bacon, sausage or ham). I recommend the Ham. Tons of food for less than $8. While it is sometimes hard to go out with small children our server was very attentive to our kiddos, even while our baby girl played the game where she would drop her bottle on the ground! If you live near here in Watertown call it in about 20 minutes ahead of time and get it to go (at least if it is a Saturday morning). I think that the seating is only for about 18 people so it can be a little crowded. read more

I almost prefer the cream added type, but if you want super healthy soup you have to try it! -Sandwiches are delicious as well. Bread really makes it. -Family owned business, and they all work together to make the place work, from kids to grandparents Cons: -always busy and wait on weekends. -limited weekend hours (not open past afternoon some time -gets a little cold because the space is so small and people are in and out the door -Some stuff is a little on the bland side. It is delicious, but never delivers strong flavor, and sometimes I like that Anyway, it's cute and I will probably go again after visiting my dentist. But I wouldn't drive from BackBay for the flavor, except it also has a personal meaning to me. read more

We have been on the lookout for a quality breakfast spot to become our go-to in the area on weekends. While the cramped quarters and lines will probably mean this won't be that place for us, the food was very good and had a homemade taste often lacking in breakfast establishments. The french toast was very interesting, seemed like it was made with french bread slices. Everything on the plate was freshly made and delicious including home fries and sausage. My wife got banana pancakes, and my son approved of them as well. The coffee was a bit nondescript, but that is pretty par for course in a breakfast place. Based on recommendation of a friend, we got a bowl of Broccoli Soup to go, and it was excellent. We expected something with more cream or cheese, but they had somehow made pureed broccoli come alive without having to resort to either. I heavily recommend getting a bowl to go as it reheats well and is like an additional treat for the day. I am also told that it cures hangovers by my same friend but have not tested. read more

My buddy who is a breakfast snob brought me here after he stumbled across it while pushing his kid in his stroller. He's been a loyal customer for about a year now. He assured me that I would have a good experience here - both food and ambiance. He was right. The two times I've been here, it was not busy. So, I have yet to experience the busy rush on a weekend morning. To get to the food, I was very happy with the home made flavors and fresh bread that's a staple here. I don't get too crazy when it comes to breakfast food. This place has a fantastic half sandwich and soup for lunch. I got a hot pastrami sandwich with Russian Dressing and cole slaw on it. It was on a crispy baguette which was delicious. The meat was warm, juicy and flavorful. I tried both the spinach soup (pretty good) and the broccoli soup here (better!) Tip: ask for bacon in the broccoli soup. Mmmm! Food was excellent, service was friendly, accommodating and prompt. It's a family business and a small hole in the wall location but it's got class and flavor and everything you want in a cafe-style french eatery. On a trip out to Hartford for the weekend, we needed an on-the-way joint for breakfast. And well, let's just say that my love of hackneyed phrases and french kitsch made The Spot a no-brainer. Despite getting lost on the way out here and on the way back to the Pike (what GPS?), The Spot is a great find. We showed up mere moments before the Saturday morning brunch rush (roughly 9:30 or so), and grabbed an open table. Hot coffee? Check. No-frills menu? Check. Tiny teapots all over the place. Check-mate. The blueberry pancakes were excellent and two were plenty. My side of bacon was crispy and delicious. The fruit salad contained more than just melon (though the overall ratio still favored cantaloupe/honeydew). Fake syrup? Come on. I know the real stuff is expensive, and the fake stuff has a serious Denny's/IHOP pedigree, but if you want to be taken seriously as a breakfast joint, just serve the real stuff. Yes, it is worth two stars on your yelp review. Yes, it is worth paying extra for. Yes, it transforms breakfast from humdrum to "hot damn". Ok, rant over. The breakfast omelet sandwich was excellent. Great crusty roll, lots of egg, vegetable, cheese, and ham. And that sucker was huge! read more

We love to go out for breakfast, but wanted to try a new place... i went on yelp to look for a place. I saw that the spot had great reviews and it was pretty close to home... so we went. it is very cozy. great colors on the walls. a charming teapot collection. a welcoming staff. we waited for about 5 minutes or so before two tables opened up to seat our 3 people party.. they cleared and cleaned The table really fast and we sat down. they asked right away if we needed drinks... we ordered coffees and orange juice. My boyfriend really liked the coffee, i thought it was just ok. orange juice was great. .... the food came out really fast! ...... it was GREAT! the bread is freshly made (either there or somewhere else). I went in this morning for me and my fellow workers at coffee break. upon entering not very clean, but instead of going to DD I thought I would support a local business. They had no coffee ready so I waited for a pot to brew (no big deal) Big sign have a homemade muffin to go....I thought these looked a lot like Costco muffins so I asked the women who handled things like she was an owner (I am assuming she was an owner) Did you make these muffins ? she replied YES... I should have known....yucky costco muffins (I know Costco muffins) my fellow workers asked me where I got the costco muffins. What a disappointment to be lied to by a small business.
