Picked up 3 2-meat combo meals to go tonight. We were all so impressed! Sliced brisket was tender and flavorful. Turkey was moist and not overly smoky. Pulled pork was delicious, and St. Louis ribs were the best ribs I've had for seasoning and fall-off-the-bone goodness second only to Marlowe's in Memphis. All the sides we ordered, mac & cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, and corn on the cob were tasty and seasoned perfectly. We wanted to try some Texas BBQ and decided to give this place a try. This is a buffet style restaurant where they serve you your meat, then you serve yourself sides in a cafeteria style line. While moving along the line, there were literally dime sized Cockroaches crawling around the food. The brisket was pretty much nothing but fat. This Spring Creek location is another of my go to places in the neighborhood. While I am a customer here, I usually just order to go and rarely eat at the restaurant. That being said, my review will be on their to go services and food, but first I will add an interesting fact about this particular location...this is the mothership, the location where it all began. They are very good with to go orders. They always go through your order with you and show youbto make certain they got it right and that you are happy before you go. They also typically offer you a drink while you wait for them to prepare your meal, though that does not always happen. The food is always good, but my favorites are the ribs and chicken. The brisket is not my favorite, but it too is good. Be sure to save room for the bread, it rocks! read more

I know I'll be getting a lot of hate for this, but this is some of the best BBQ in Dallas. Even better than Pecan Lodge.(sound the alarms!) I've been going here for years and honestly, they have some of the moistest, tender, and flavorful smoked meats you can find. They have daily lunch specials and you don't have to wait 3 hours in line for quality BBQ. Meats come with sides consisting of my personal favorites mac and cheese, potato salad, and green beans that have descended from heaven itself. I always ask for a higher marble cut of brisket, so my brisket is always tender and juicy. Their smoked sausage is tasty and I'll occasionally order their famous brisket baked potato! You can't beat how friendly and welcoming the staff is. It gets pretty busy around lunch and dinner time, but the meat is always cut fresh and I'm in BBQ heaven from the first bite on. Their bread literally melts in your mouth as it's baked fresh EVERY 10 minutes! You'll know what I mean when you'll hear the best 3 words in the world, "Fresh hot bread?" My answer will always and forever be "YES YES YES". If you're looking for some quality BBQ, a nice Southern BBQ experience, and some of the friendliest folks you'll ever find, come to Spring Creek. I've been eating at Spring Creek BBQ for over a decade. But, no more. They have gone down hill big time. I understand beef prices have increased, but the standard brisket plate is now 18.00 and it's terrible. The beef is dry, stringy, and basically tastes old. The sides are now served to you instead of serve yourself, and the staff must have been told to pass out small portions. The green beans were COLD as stone! Totally gross. The corn was barely warm. The mac and cheese is tasteless. I just spend 48.00 in total for two people to have a terrible "meal". I won't be surprised if this does not come flying back out of me in the next hour. In fact I might be thankful to be rid of it. Too bad, I was a fan of Spring Creek but it seems they are ready to join Colter's on the scrap heap of crappy corporate BBQ joint's gone to hell. Wish my toilet good luck as it's about ready to have to work overtime! The last time I visited, you could tell them how you like your brisket (fatty/lean, charred/not) which was a huge upgrade from before! I always get the ribs & brisket combo with the BBQ sauce at the serving station (which is different than the one you can scoop yourself), place the bread off the plate on the tray, and load up on the sides! I'm not usually a beans person, but their green beans with pork pieces, and baked beans are soooo good. I can never finish all the meat, but usually there are others who are happy to have it. The last 5 times, they have left something out of my order or completely given me the wrong order, which meant I had to go back and get the correct order. The set up seems okay, it was cafeteria style with a carver at the first station. Brisket! Yes brisket, it was dry and pretty bland, what little there was of it. It's Texas so I had to have the beef and sausage combo. Asked for moist brisket for maximum flavor, then loaded up on beans, mac n cheese, and cole slaw. The brisket was almost flavorless and not that juicy, plus it was sliced thin. If it wasn't for the bbq sauce, it wouldn't have much flavor at all. The sausages made up for the lack of flavor in the brisket, mostly with salt. It wasn't salty, it's just the brisket lacked it. The cole slaw was fresh and crunchy, the beans were ok, the mac n cheese needed a more flavorful cheese and the corn was waterlogged. But the bread was piping hot and tasted good w/ butter, and the coconut cream pie was the highlight of the meal. I looove ribs, and rarely order them, so I splurged and was not disappointed. At first I thought the guy serving them didn't give me enough (because I'm a thin girl?) but at the end of the meal, it was the perfect amount. The sauce on top is delicious, so don't skimp! One of my favorite parts is that it is a one-shot buffet style: you pay for your entree and fit as much "vegetables" on your plate as you can (or would like to, but I took it as a challenge). The "vegetables" are mainly green beans, cole slaw, and mac n cheese... don't fool yourself into thinking this is healthy, but at least there are options! I got mac n cheese and green beans and they were perfect. I'm 95% sure the green beans were cooked with bacon, so you understand my lust. I tried my boyfriend's brisket, which was yummy, too. He had no complaints, just a little jealousy: "I should've ordered the ribs, too." And to top it off, employees walk around with hot fresh buns in a basket. They taste like the perfect mixture of butter and heaven. The only downside I experienced was that the bathroom was about 20 degrees colder than the rest of the restaurant. The rolls are great, the beans are great, the peach cobbler with Bluebell ice cream is sinful and the staff hustles to get orders out, BUT, the meat is terrible! Three times in a row terrible! First time crusty dried up ribs so hard they had to be thrown away, could have been and off night, no worries, next time we ordered sliced brisket and got at least half fat, granted the fat was sliced, but big chunks of sliced fat should never be in a sliced brisket order. This one we chalked up to new or inexperienced personnel on the meat counter, still... carving brisket should be tops on the list for a Texas BBQ restaurant to get right. We even called and spoke to a manager who promised to make it up by sending a gift certificate that as of 2 weeks has yet to arrive. Finally, 3rd times the charm, brisket so dry and cut WITH THE GRAIN!! Stringy dries up nasty brisket was the last straw. A BBQ joint that can't get the meat right has no place in Texas. This is the second time that I've been to this place. I really like the ribs here. The meat comes off the bone and melts in your mouth. But, it does depend if you get a good rack of rib because my boyfriend didn't get a good one today so it wasn't as tender and melts in his mouth. I didn't like their brisket. I felt like it was too dry. I would stick to the ribs. There are unlimited sides (they are pretty good as well) and drinks. The slice of pie is not included! Maybe this place had a few things going against it when I came here for lunch - my first foray into the great state of Texas. First of all, I was meeting most of my colleagues here for the first time, including the big boss. So, I could have been a little nervous and therefore not really focusing on the food. Second, we arrive around noontime or so. With the time change from the West Coast to Central time, it was like I was eating a decently heavy meal at 10am. So, that being said, I might have been impressed on another day, but it certainly wasn't the day I went. It was basic BBQ stuff, I had myself a tri tip sandwich, and I've had better. The meat was a bit tough, the sauce was not to my liking, and the bun didn't seem very fresh. The baked potato was excellent - loaded up with lots of fixin's (sour cream, chives, bacon, and cheese), and was the highlight of my meal. Food was plentiful though below expectations for the price we paid.
