Great Deli Sandwiches and very friendly staff We stopped here to have sandwiches made to go visit Lime Kiln Park to sit and watch the whales. The staff was very friendly in the deli providing us all the different options, and opening up with small conversations. They seem to know everyone who is a local that walked into the store and were extremely nice to. Recommend visiting this place if you need a quick bite. Dropped in for a veggie-friendly lunch while on San Juan Island; ordered two specials, one the grilled cheese, panini-style, and the other a mix of veggies on marbled rye. Bought two bags of salt-and-pepper chips, which was one more than we needed. Once I figured out the ordering system (you have to write it yourself on a sheet a paper and turn it in on top of the deli case) then we were set to go. So I am a sandwich guy plain and simple. When any meal gets elevated to its highest form, it becomes a sandwich! So when we jumped of the boat in Port if Friday Harbor, I was hankering for a sandwich and the spring street deli ranked pretty high on Yelp, so we went... and it was delightful! From the minute we walked I the door and the delightful lady behind the counter (Lauretta I think) instructed us to fill out the order form, to the first bite if sandwich it was a great place. They were even dealing with a pack of small children (not mine) who where suffering from vacation melt down and continued to be very pleasant and helpful to the mom. And for the food, which did I mention was delightful?! My Reuben was delicious and my wife's chicken ranch was delicious (her words and she is not a sandwich gal) my daughters build your own ham and cheese was great. And they even have the good thick kettle chips and Bundaberg soda. As sandwiches go they were solid and as an island sandwich goes where everything is hauled in and of then not very fresh, they were fantastic! And did I mention the pleasant helpful service?! Walked in and were immediately greeted by friendly staff. Easy order process and quick turn around. We got our sandwiches for a picnic so we had them cold, but I can only imagine how much more indulgent they would have been hot. The sandwiches here are delicious! Friendly customer service. I bought a hot pastrami sandwich to take back to my hotel. Figured I would just heat it back up when I got back. I had to take an hour and a half ferry ride back to my hotel. My sandwich was still warm and yummy. We stopped for lunch after a day of Island exploration. Fast friendly service so a star for that. My wife had a turkey avocado club which she said was great so a star for that. I had the Italian sandwich which could have been great, it wasn't. All of the meats and vegetables were great but the dry bread ruined it. Came back the next day we were going well watching. This place is amazing!! Seriously the best place to eat in Friday Harbor and the owners were in incredible. To give you some perspective, my girlfriend and I were were on the island for the day to bike around the island. Needless to say, we were starving after our 40 mile ride. By the time we got back to Friday Harbor though, most restaurants were closed and the ones that were still open were pretty expensive. We stumbled across Spring Street Deli and started talking to one of the owners. He let us know that they were also closed and were preparing meals for the graduating high school seniors for that night. Rather than turning us away though, he told us to come on in and they would open up the shop just for us! We ended up having wonderful conversation with both the owners as they prepared really incredible sandwiches. They even threw in some cookies at the end for a special treat :) It was the perfect end to our trip. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great sandwiches and genuinely friendly people. read more

I ordered the Classic Grinder. It's a yummy sandwich but the bread is very dry and it definitely isn't enough to feed 2 people (as other reviews state). I have been to the deli once before and felt the same way (I was still hungry after I finished the whole sandwich myself and the meat portion last time was even less than today). I don't feel like they are all that generous with the meat portions (as other reviews state). I want to rate 3.5 but since that is not an option I'll be generous and give 4 stars. They could really improve the bread and add just a little more meat and that would make this a 5-star review! read more

Very thin pastrami, just the right amount of mayo and perfectly toasted bread. One of my daughters said her tuna on sour dough (with too many toppings to mention) was the best sandwich she has ever eaten. A nice place for some cheap lunch on the go. My hubs and I stopped in here today for some quick lunch after walking around downtown. It's pretty simple here: build your own sandwich or wrap, add chips, and enjoy! Ingredients were fresh on my strictly veggie wrap (even the avocado.) Gluten-free option available. They sell a variety of Kettle chips, and a few Deep River chips which I love because the ingredients are clean and simple. offering daily specials. Under $10 each. My only complaint is that they didn't offer hormone-free cheese or meat, but given I only got veggies it didn't affect me. Nice folks. Go check 'em out. read more
