Decent enough staff but they are not willing to deal on much do anything. They didn't have the model of bike I wanted in stock so I asked if they could order it for me. They said they could but it would cost an additional $200. So they would order a bike for me in which I would pay full retail price (over $2,500)+ $200? They wouldn't give me a discount off the bike even though by ordering it was a guaranteed sale - they only offered me 10% off any accessories. I ended getting the bike from Helen's Cycles at 20% off the retail price - the bike wasn't even on sale... I just asked if they could cut me a deal. read more

Seriously!? So very impressed with this bike shop! I called out on a very cold and rainy day because I needed my beach cruiser tire to be repaired. The thing is I was dreading the moment because I really didn't know how I could put my old huge rusty beach cruiser in my car. After calling and getting someone on the phone right away, I asked out if the blue (took my chances!) if fir some reason they would be willing to come and pick up my bike to repair it. It took one quick minute hold to find out that it was no problem at all!! Aaaahhhh that feeling when someone says yes!!! They even offered to do it the same day at lunch. Someone called right before coming in, they ended up repairing it right in my garage and it took literally 10 min!!! How nice is that!! And guess what? Prior loyal customer, until they changed my ele bike brakes and let me leave the store with faulty front and rear brakes. It's understandable that people make mistakes, which is why I promptly returned with the bike and expressed my concern and displeasure- they offered no apologies. And while I assumed that the oversight was clear, employees and David the owner even went as far as trying to blame it on faulty parts. This set off a huge red flag as the likelihood of both breaks failing simultaneously via faulty parts was outrageous. In fairness they did rectify the matter by fixing the bike and offering me a loaner, however the trust was still broken- I could've been seriously hurt. read more

The 3 star is for the experience overall. (November 2020). Great selection for a small store. Purchased a teal blue beach cruiser along with a basket and a helmet for my daughter who was with me. The clerk seemed kind of annoyed with me when I too asked questions about the bike but I don't think they put the two and two together until my wallet came out that I was actually the one completing the transaction and not just some random minority lady who came along for the ride. The next day we picked up the bike and the guy at the counter just ignored us. Luckily a girl came out and helped us so we could load the bike in to our car. I am interested in purchasing a bike for my other child and it would be nice that I could do it at a store that is close to home and has a nice selection like this one. Everyone who walks in your store has the potential to buy and buy again. No matter what your personal issues are, give it your best. Every customer counts. read more

Super helpful, they are one of the only shops in the southbay area that carries individual components without having to special order them - in the last couple months I've broken a 8spd shifter and front derailleur, and they were able to sell me the part on the spot - service prices are reasonable, but be prepared to wait a couple days/weeks to get the bike back. read more

The hubby and I have been on a quest on finding a honest bike shop that have reasonable prices for our every day needs.Considering the beach city's only mean high prices due to high rents. Our goal is to find shops that care and service there customers. We have visit two bike shop in the past and those two when we entered don't seem to value their customers. When we entered Sprockets cycles the gave us the attention we needed to buy the necessary bike accessories that our bike ask for. We bought a bike basket to replace the old for $45 and a bike rack as a upgrade for $30. The price were all at a reasonable for the location and great customer service from the staff. Service was pretty quick for a Friday! This place is right off PHC with parking on the curb or for easy access there's plenty of parking in the rear. read more

What a bunch of con men!!!! So I inherited a beach cruiser from a friend that needed a little seat fix so I took it to Sprockets. The salesman (snake oil salesman is more like it) said that the bike needs a little bit of work and tried to sell me a brand new expensive beach cruiser. Which I was not into. So I told him I just wanted to fix the wobbly seat. So he obliged and the gentleman that will remain unnamed fixed the seat while I bought a couple of things like a basket and a cup holder etc. He added them on and he said it was good as new. The next morning I wake up and I take my bike for a spin and it starts squeaking in places it has not squeaked previous!!! A new gentleman was helping me and said something similar to it being sub par and I need a new one, then he tried pushing a tune up on me. THE SALESMAN FROM THE PREVIOUS DAY WAS THERE AND WOULDNT EVEN MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH ME like he knew he sold me a raw deal. I CANT EVEN WALK PAST THE PLACE WITHOUT GETTING A LITTLE PEEVED. I walked in on Sunday. Called ahead and they said they were pretty busy. Stopped by a few minutes later and the place is empty. Asked one of two girls a question and if a mechanic can look at my bike's crankset. She tells me to buy a new bike chain without even looking at my bike or requesting a mechanic to take a look. Hands me a $40 Shimano bike chain and disappears into the back. I stand there for 5 minutes. The other girl is just staring into space. I leave. Waste of my time. read more

The girl and I stopped by to get her a new basket and some beer holders for our bikes. They installed everything for us - I mean it's just a couple of screws and could be easily down at home but they took the time to stop and take care of it for us. You know how a PBJ sandwich always tastes better when someone else makes it even though it's the same 3 ingredients every time? Same kind of situation, I just felt good about them doing it. When we stopped in we were on our way home from a long day at the beach and on the way up the final hill my chain fell off. In my sun-drained stupor I didn't bother to ask them to put it back on, it didn't even cross my mind. Without hesitation, the guy in the back threw the bike on his rack, re-aligned my wheels, got the chain back on, lubed it up, lubed the rusty kickstand, and put on the new grips I bought. These guys are great. I don't buy a lot of bike stuff but next time I need a tube or beer holder I'll be walking in to Sprocket. read more

I've lived in the South Bay for almost 2 years now, and I have been looking for a decent place to get sem-regular bike maintenance done. So here's the deal: Do *NOT* go to that OTHER place off of Sapphire. I know it can be convenient for some, but these people do not act like they want your business. I do NOT get it--I try to be friendly and then I remind myself that *I* am the one giving them *my* money. They are not overly nasty, they just act like you are interrupting their day by being a customer at their shop. WTF? Do you have something better to do? Aren't you a bike shop owner? Okay so getting to Paul's place. This place is great. It's smaller, but it has everything that you want and need. I asked Paul for a bike tune-up to two of my bikes. They did it in less than 2 days (The other place asks for a WEEK, or close to it--5 days) and the bikes are not noisy and run smoothly, despite the rusting of the beach air. They charged $10 less than the other place, as well. I also asked them to sell me a big bike basket and install it for me. No problem, they said. Done. When I asked the other place to sell me a basket he's like "Well...I *guess* I can order one for you." I didn't press the issue further--because obviously he doesn't care to take my $45? I gave it to Paul instead, and he installed it in 5 min with some extra strength zip ties. Paul and his coworker are also super friendly to deal with and offered plenty of pamphlets and handouts for myself and my little one for rides they have in the area. I have taken two of my bikes in here recently. One was because the front gears would not shift and the cable kept coming loose. After trying several fixes and realizing I wasn't getting anywhere, I took it to Sprocket. They told me the front derailleur wasn't shifting properly and needed adjusted. I had it tuned up elsewhere about a year before by someone who did a great job, but I hadn't ridden it as much as I had hoped and they explained that derailleurs can get stuck after not enough use. They gave me a quote and had it ready the next day for a cost that was cheaper than what they quoted. My other bike needed a new chain, which was long enough to require links from two different chains. Again, they charged me a reasonable price and it was ready the next day. As long as they keep providing great service, I will keep going there. read more

Great service! Reasonable prices. On my birthday weekend, I made plans to go to Catalina island and wanted to bring bikes. I called different bike stores in the area the day before my trip- pretty close to closing hours to see if they had a bike rack. (I know! Bad planning on my end..) The closest bike store w/ a rack, Aviation Cyclery had one guy working there and must have been rushing tells me, "oh, you didn't say you were coming today-I can't help you." I didn't give up hope and called around. Even though it was closing time, Sprockets said I can pass by and they even installed the bike rack for me! It's so rare to find nice and helpful service! He used to race and now coaches triathletes and bikers, not to mention his kid is a world-class BMX racer. He has incredible attention to detail and delivers excellent customer service. I brought my tri bike in after a crash to get everything checked out before my upcoming race, and he not only took the time to explain all the ways he was going to check the bike and give it a tune-up, but he asked about my injuries and recommended things to help me heal faster. When my bike was ready today, I mentioned that work was busy and I might not be able to pick it up tonight, and he brought it over to my apartment. Sprockets has free bike delivery with a service! These guys are great - knowledgeable, helpful, and did the extra little bit for me the last time I got a tune up. I've come in a couple times and chatted with Paul about various new technologies, or just random talking points - he's obviously living and breathing cycling, and enjoying it. My most recent experience, they advised replacing the brake pads, due to uneven wear, but since they still had some life, they actually held back on replacing them and instead filed them down a bit to wear more evenly. They have me some good advice on the wheelset I own, as well as some helpful tips. Mind you, what also puts them above and beyond is that this was all after closing time! They were nice enough to wait for me to pick up my bike, even though I arrived 15 minutes after they closed!! In synopsis, great shop, decent prices, and stellar service! read more

These guys rock. The support they provide is fantastic. I've purchased a bike, a car rack, a trainer, had them service my bikes... in all cases the service has been amazing. Most recently I was going to purchase a trainer online, but ordered it from Paul instead. Wow, I'm so glad I did. It wasn't plug and play and they helped me work through changes needed to the bike and swapped out a part of the trainer that wasn't working (they will deal with the manufacturer). Got an inner tube replaced on electric scooter. Very nice people and fast, but I was disappointed with the big lumps on tire that they didn't bother to tell me about, didn't notice until I got home. Noticeably bumpy when riding. I called and they said I need a new tire if I want the problem fixed, due to deformed casing inside. I would have given a better review if they had told me that and not given it back to me in that condition without saying anything, probably hoping I wouldn't notice. Kind of lame. :( read more
