Went here twice on vacation. Tried most of the apps, chicken sandwich and drinks. Everything was great. The butter beans, bacon wrapped dates and Brussels sprouts were the stand outs! Service was great! You won't be disappointed!

Loved everything about this place. It was laid back, the food was delicious, the bar tender was witty and super kind. This was actually one of the only places my friend and I ate out at while on vacation. I'd say we picked the right spot. My friend ordered the schnitzel and the bite I had I can say it was delicious. She enjoyed it as well. I ordered the bangers and mash. Absolutely a winner. It was the perfect amount of food and so flavorful.

Spruce is a busy small restaurant specializing in craft cocktails and foods that pair well together. Open most evenings. The bartenders are true mixologist and even have non/ alcoholic cocktails and 25 specialty bitters (dry jan anyone?) I enjoy all their appetizers every thing from, seared ahi tuna, bacon wrapped dates (you get 4 per order), crispy brussel sprouts are crack, they are so good. (balsamic vinegar goodness) Menu is somewhat small but they have a great Chicken sandwich that is perfection in crunch, best batter Ive had (since Oak in Seattle. I think it originally was the sister to Spruce but changed owners.?) The other star dish is pork schnitzel, tasty all around and I love the capers, the red cabbage side, it's not too big, so you can finish the meal. (which is perfect as I don't think it would carry well to reheat due to gravy) I can't forget to compliment the service. Our waiter checked on us often, gave suggestions when we asked, water always was refilled which we appreciated so much. Service is lost nowadays but not here! So come here for a small plate and specialty cocktails or craft beer night or a full meal. The only underwhelming item was the side of fries that come with the sandwich was meh, but they do have decorated ones you can order as side that might be more tasty.

We decided on Spruce for dinner after walking around the farmers market and downtown Port A during the morning and window shopping all the menus around town. When we made it in at 6PM, it was already pretty full. The waiter explained to us that Spruce is a chef-led restaurant with offerings that constantly change to incorporate in season fruits and vegetables. That sounded good to us! Shermy's Fried Chicken & A Biscuit ($19) - Starting with the chicken: this dish comes with two thighs, deboned and pounded relatively flat, then dredged in flour and fried. The dredge is applied in a thick layer, resulting in areas that have a thicker, more moist and floury bite. Most of it is fried until nicely crisp. The seasoning seems to be only salt and pepper, making the chicken a canvas to add flavor to from other sources. The chicken itself is on the verge of being dry, approaching being stringy and tough, with most of the juices evaporated. Good fried chicken is great even by itself. This fried chicken, on the other hand, is bland enough to require the agave butter and bbq sauce it's served with. The bbq sauce is pretty generic sweet, tangy, and salty. The agave butter is nicely sweet and creamy. Not much else to say about those two. On the side is the smallest biscuit I've ever seen. It's almost vestigial. I'm talking a tiny puck, less than 2 inches in diameter, cut in half, then with the inner halves grilled, adding char. The biscuit is dry, floury, dense enough that it's hard to cut through with the supplied butter knife, and tastes mainly of alkalinity. When people say they don't like biscuits, it's because this biscuit type is all they've ever eaten. I'm kind of grateful that the biscuit is small - any larger would be hard to choke down. The dish also comes with a vinegar slaw and two cornichons. The cornichons are supremely crisp and not too acidic. The vinegar slaw is exceptionally acidic and sour, way too strong for my tastes. It has almost a bit of the stink and the liquid the slaw rests in is a cloudy white color. Fermented perhaps? In any case, neither my wife nor I could stomach more than a bite of the slaw. (3/5) Schnitzelet ($19) - This includes three smaller pieces of schnitzel covered with spaetzel and red cabbage. The schinitzelets are around 3 inch lengthwide ovals, lightly fried in a thin breading. Not much crisp, but the pork that's pounded flat has plenty of flavor and moisture. The spaetzel seems to be deep fried, giving them a crunchy skin throughout with a toothsome center, unlike pan fried spaetzel. When I think of spaetzel, it's usually boiled and then drowned in butter, making it dense and heavy, yet somehow with deep frying the spaetzel feel paradoxically healthier and lighter. It's in a very creamy sauce studded with extra large, high quality capers. The red cabbage is clearly vinegared, but it's quite mild tanginess and acidity. Very pleasing to eat. Great dish overall. (5/5) The portions Spruce serves are very reasonable - on the smaller side compared to most restaurants, but more than enough to fill both of our stomachs with us feeling sick afterwards, or having any leftovers. We had a wonderful experience at Spruce. We went to the restaurant at around 5:30 on a Sunday after a long day of hiking, and had no issue getting a seat. The restaurant has a moody, cabin-like feel and is very cozy. The owner came out to greet / serve us and was super friendly. As we weren't from Washington, he took the time to give us recommendations for around the area. We ordered the brussel sprouts, dates with bacon, and fried chicken. Everything was very tasty. Cocktails were also delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Spruce is my favorite place to eat when I'm in Port Angeles. The food is next-level yet straightforward: Crispy Brussels sprouts with balsamic and maple syrup, bacon-wrapped dates, and smoked yogurt with pistachios and beets (trust me, it works). Sonja makes the best spicy Bloody Mary in town. The atmosphere is mint with its friendly staff, warm lighting, and stylish décor. Like many places the pandemic has unfortunately kneecapped Spruce at times but when open and humming this place is great. Food, cocktails, vibe, and staff are all . My finicky and discerning family from NYC visited in July 2021 and they demanded we return a second time in a week for their last meal in Port Angeles. Top 3 spot in Port Angeles for dining out. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. My friends and I stopped here for dinner when we were in Port Angeles this weekend. I'm not huge on this type of menu--burgers, fried chicken, etc but it was VERY good. We had quinoa fritters--amazing. Burger was amazing, fried chicken and biscuits were amazing. Highly recommend this place. We will be back. If I'm going to blow a bunch of calories, this was definitely worth it. read more

Found this place on the way back from a long hike in the Olympic Peninsula. This place is a rare little gem to keep it of the way, but well worth stopping for. The food was outstanding as well as the service. Definitely a one of a kind find and worth visiting again. read more

What.Great.News! Spruce has re-opened, delivering on their promise of Northwest goodness. We have been jonesing for their best-on-the-Strait burgers, the Brussels sprouts, Sarah's seriously great... cocktails and now they're back. This is what a burger can be in the hands of experienced restaurant owners who care about quality and flavor. That cheese blend on the Spruce burger is a little bit of heaven. The Brussels are, as usual, side for me. What's coming off the bar can vary with what's fresh. Hope for a shrub, look for various -tinis and remember when it's down-home you want, they pour Hamms. They're open for take-out only now. As I yelped last year: Spruce is under-the-radar cheffery: familiar dishes done skillfully with great ingredients and a few surprises every week (sauerkraut balls, Scotch egg, etc). (BTW...Do your favorite restaurant a break and pick up dinner yourself when you can instead of Doordashing. You want your dollars going to Silicon Valley app-makers or to the pockets of local chefs and servers?) Welcome back, Spruce. We missed you! read more

The town's best-kept secret! We came on a Sunday night and everything was closed else in town was closed. To our surprise, this place was open and had tones of vegan options! WIN-WIN. Plus our waitress was the nicest lady ever. The food was some of the best plant-based meals I've had in a long time. We got the vegan beat/quina burger and the flavors rich and delicious! This place knows how to cook a burger. Best burger I've had this year. I wasn't even that hungry and was thinking I would take most of my burger home for lunch tomorrow but I didn't want to stop eating it, it was that tasty!! The fried chicken was a hit as well but that burger was the star. The restaurant was great too, loved the decor and very cozy. The music playing was oh so funky. We've tried Spruce twice now. This past Sunday (12/15) we were in for a late lunch, early dinner. One bartender / waitress who juggled three tables and a couple at the bar like a pro. It was poetry in motion. We had the two chicken 'burgers', one fried and one wasn't. Both were spot on with generous portions of a mixed green side salad. Food takes a minute or two longer but once you receive it you'll know why and is worth the wait. It was a nice relaxing meal with a great combination of food, friendly service and ambiance. I rarely get all three at once when dining out so that is the reason for 5 stars. read more

A surprise find. Service was friendly. Food was tasty. We had the schnitzel and the chicken sandwich with hot green sauce. Both had portion sizes that we found more then filling. The potatoes-- both the mashed with the schnitzel and the fries with the sandwich-- were exceptional. The chicken in both cases was tender and seasoned well. One must taste the sour cream sauce on the schnitzel and get an extra side of the spruce hot green sauce. Highly recommend ... for its food especially at its price point. Suggestion ... SPRUCE sign needs to be more eye catching and publicize with local hotel front desk personnel (it was not on the list when we asked for local recommendations). read more

I am so glad that I landed on this place when DT Port Angeles was packed because of the 4th of July festivities. Sinced we opted for the bar, we were seated right away! Enjoyed the IPA on tap from Silver City. But one thing I didn't expect was how great the burger was. I ordered the Spruce and it was one of the BEST burgers I've had. I mean this burger should be on the map! We also ordered the fried chicken plate which was great too btw. A little pricey, but I'm always willing to pay for awesome food and service! read more

I love it! Great service, amazing food. Brussel sprouts to start and then Caesar salad. But the best part was Austin the bartender. This guy knows his mixology. I had an old school Manhattan and my wife had a cosmo. He knows what he's doing and it equals a great drink. Don't miss this guy or the food. read more

This place is amazing!! My husband and I went here for lunch while vacationing in Port Angeles. I had Joe's veggie burger and that was the best veggie burger I have ever had!! If you're looking to turn people vegan, this is the way to do it! I can't say enough about it. Please don't ever change the way you make that burger Joe! My husband had the grilled cheese sandwich and he really enjoyed that too along with the fries!! When we come back again, we will return to eat here for sure!! read more

It's not that common to find amazing food in the PA area anymore. Yes, a few places, but overall the vast majority is average at best. I'm blown away by Spruce, it's the whole package. Cool vibes inside, decent background music, Service was super personable and Noel is well versed in their offerings. Not a huge beer tap selection, but not the typical boring stuff. The food..OMG! Well designed dips, hand cut fries, Spruce Burger, and off the special menu Chorizo scotch egg.. Amazballs all around!! Bar has some interesting specials, but I went with an Old Fashioned that was a work of art. If I had to say any negative, the seats are hard.. and it's small inside so as it becomes more popular, it'll be hard to get inside. Can't wait to go back! read more

Their menu isn't big/expansive, but what they do have they make well. Not much seating inside, so be prepared for a little bit of a wait. They closed at 9pm on the day we went, but stopped seating new patrons an hour before closing, so be aware. read more

This place is KILLER! Food is absolutely to die for! I came out to Port Angeles for an over nighter with my fiancé for engagement photos. Going out to eat in areas unfamiliar can sometimes be difficult because she suffers from celiac disease. Luckily, we found this spot! I wish I would have taken photos of the food because it looked as good as it tasted! read more

Pretty disappointed with the food. Good atmosphere and staff were great. The sauerkraut balls were just too big to eat without cutting them up and they were mushy. Couldn't identify the flavor as a German dish. The fried chicken was very crispy and just tasted like breading. The french fries and salad were the only things I found worth eating. read more

It reminded me of the Western Bacon from Carl's Jr but of course more stout and tastier. I just wish it had more sauce, I had to douse some ketchup on it. The tater tots were cooked to a nice crisp. The dip was okay but I prefer my spinach dip warm. Pizza was delicious! Overall experience was good.

I opened up the two pieces of bread and found what appeared to be only a half a slice of cheese. For a grilled cheese sandwich, it had hardly any cheese on it, and the other two orders were wrong. I informed our server about our issues. We were advised that all of our meals would be comped. Our server also informed us that this was his last day.

It feels like every seat has a perfect, almost 360 view of the water. One of those spots where you catch yourself staring out the window mid-bite. Our server actually turned out to be from our area, which made for such an easy, fun conversation and added a really personal touch to the experience. The fish was the best I had in Port Angeles--fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for when you're eating right on the water. I also had to grab chicken tenders for the kids (mandatory parenting order), and those were solid too. And the house lemonade? No joke--so good. Also, little tip: they offer a discount if you pay in cash, which is a nice bonus.

My husband ordered a beer and asked if we could please place our dinner order as we had to get home sooner than later...Server caustically remarked only drink orders as she was too busy (being a former bartender and long time server myself I had noticed the large dining room was not crowded) and at least 20 minutes later when she was passing thru again for several more drink orders he asked again about placing our food order and this time she ripped into him, rudely... and informed him she would have to work 10 times harder if she took our food order. I was shocked that she would speak to him in such a unprofessional manner, I told her we had not come in to be snarled at by the wait staff and we got up to leave, she yelled at my husband to just forget the beer cost and we left embarrassed about the scene she created as the rest of our group was arriving. He called this morning to discuss this with the young male manager who proceeded to berate him for the treatment of the server!! and claimed that the group applauded the server after we left ( we spoke to several bowlers that were there and the managers claim was certainly not anything that any of them experienced.....he told my husband we were not welcome to come back and we certainly will not if that is how the restaurant is being ran by the new ownership.

A few things to correct your comments: - there were three tables were seated following me and they all got the dishes before me. One table with couple, one with four people and one at the counter. - the note I put on was not to the waitress blunt to you. I said specifically " lady with black shirt". Your tone made me felt that I shouldn't check what is my order status after 30mins wait. We came in around 9:30am Saturday and ordered traditional breakfast with French toast. Waited over 30mins, the later customers all got their dishes and next table finished theirs. When the waitress was checking with kitchen for us, a lady with black shirt came and said: "it normal wait for 30mins and you are 25mins now, still five mins to go". I am a bigger supporter of local small business, but I would appreciate if they can let me know when we arrived that waiting is 30mins after ordered. I still gave 15% tips as I can see the sorry face from the waitress - I normally pay min 20% for small business. I also noticed that we were the only Asian table during that period.
