    Fava bean dip
    Kurtis S.

Let me start off the review by saying the restaurant is extremely charming when arriving, the staff was pleasant and seated us right away. We opted to try the lounge so we could pick and choose our options which ended up being the right choice for us. Now lets get to the review on the drinks and food. We started off with my wife getting an Espresso Martini and I got an Aperol spritz, both crafted exceptionally well and stood up to our expectations. The food we decided on began with wonderfully baked rolls with a side of butter and salt. We then opted in to trying their fava bean dip with homemade crostinis and man were we already blown away. Next, we ordered their buckwheat tarte tatin. We almost regretted sharing this between two people because we loved it this much and wanted our own. It was a small but powerfully packed flavored tarte. We both wanted to split our mains, I ordered the spruce Burger, and my wife ordered the filet mignon. The burger was cooked perfectly, they had a homemade sourdough bun which was a good addition. As well as sides and condiments that you could add on to the burger. It was a good solid burger that we would try again. On the other hand, the filet mignon was very lacking and we were disappointed with that choice. Again, it was cooked very well, we had asked for medium rareness. However, the flavor was non-existent and I have cooked better steaks at home. There were some added sides you could mix in with the au jus sauce, however it did not add to the dish. We were disappointed with this decision even though we were very excited and rarely ever order steaks at restaurants, we had higher expectations, especially as everything prior met and exceeded our expectations. Lastly, we ordered the Baba au Gin for dessert. We had to ask what this was and while the server was describing it to us, we had to try it! It was strong and packed in flavor but was light and a perfect way to end the night. Overall our night was near perfect and we cannot wait to come back and try more food from this restaurant. However, I will be very hesitant to order any type of steak, filet mignon or any other type of cuts of meat that are not included in a dish already. But their drinks and the rest of the food was fantastic.

A terrific 5/5 experience. This was beautiful find dining a with every detail perfected. We went for a friends birthday (perfect for special occasions) and they rolled out all the stops. We enjoyed all the different courses and the kindness of our assigned wait staff. I had made a mistake about my dessert choice and they kindly fixed it without any fuss. There were palette cleansers, beautifully plated appetizers and entrees, and even little chocolates/sweets at the end. I loved the cookie and the ravioli. I think this is a wonderful place for a special occasion dinner!

Did dinner menu. Service was quick. Steak was just ok. Truffle pasta add-on was very decadent and was our favorite. Basically just butter and truffle yummm. Desserts were not it.

Serving customers of pacific heights, laurel heights and financial district - the best spot for financial bros (the top investment kind too). Elegant classical fine dining, dessert cart, the freshest golden pasta ever, excellent steak. This place is beautiful, old money, classy, great white glove white table cloth service. The team is very professionals. There are treats to go too at the front. Definitely $$$$ definitely worth it

The photos I took do not even begin to capture the beauty and quality of each dish we enjoyed last Sunday evening, they reflect only a small sample of the delicious experience Spruce offers on a daily basis. I came away not understanding why the restaurant has not regained a Michelin star because the service is right up there with other current SF restaurants and the environment is beautifully designed for parties large or small, providing intimacy at each table while offering views of the beautiful plates arriving and the attentive staff making sure that every diner leaves with a memory of a special meal event. It is clear to see why this restaurant remains beloved by SF diners, friends who celebrate birthdays and milestones there, I will return to do the same. Thank you.

I've been eyeing Spruce for a while, but my boyfriend and I are trying to cut back on our fine dining outings. For the first two years we dated, we'd sometimes go just-for-fun--now we're trying to save them for special occasions only. My job wanted me to organize a fancy dinner and I hopped on the Spruce train. I emailed them and they helped me coordinate the dinner! They were very helpful, giving us menu options, wine options, and recommendations, helping us adjust and personalize the event. We ate in the Shiraga room with 12 people. I got there early and it's beautiful. Great service, location, ambiance, interior (and exterior.) I loved the bread, the beet raviolo (coming for you, Cotogna!), short rib, and steak tartare. Great wine and just...the service. They made me feel at-home. They were personable and kind and helpful and thoughtful--no detail was too small. Will be back of course (unfortunately, not for work) and maybe not for a special occasion (Spruce also is known for their burger...)

Lunch at Spruce was a mix! Service was good and all the courses were delicious, but the bug problem was a major turnoff. There were flies at the tables and my husband found a live ant in his appetizer on the flower garnish. Staff was apologetic but the experience was average because of that!

Spruce embodies the elegance and precision of a true gourmet kitchen, making it a wonderful choice for an intimate and refined dinner. The wine selection is impressive, and the three course menu is thoughtfully designed, allowing guests to choose their main course and dessert for a balanced dining experience. Everything arrived perfectly timed and at the ideal temperature. The service was nice, attentive, and very professional. I especially appreciated the thoughtful recommendations and the patience in explaining the menu. Definitely a place worth returning to.

This is over the top service, over the top food. Unfortunately I am addicted to their burger and find it hard to stray. I prefer sitting at the bar or outside on the sidewalk if the weather is nice. Service inside is almost overwhelming, but part of their mystique. It feels like a special occasion place but if you opt for bar or sidewalk, it's a much cooler vibe.

Butternut Squash Sacchetti are absolutely stunning and delicious with a velvet smooth filling and perfectly cooked dough

Spruce is a neighborhood restaurant that offers a fine dining experience; not sure why they don't have a Michelin star since they definitely look the part. I took my wife here for our dating anniversary and it didn't disappoint us, in fact it has become our recurring spot. Pictures tell most of the story on the food. Ambience is refined and despite being a popular spot without being obnoxious, with people talking softly. Given this is a place for special occasions, proper attire must follow.

Roasted Striped Bass, January 2026 $125 prix fixe menu entree
    Mike V.

4.5 for the current iteration of the Saturday prix fixe dinner, exceptional service, at one point we almost had too many servers and somms at the table between the first and second courses due to adding an intermède but they made it work, but as usual Spruce holds itself to a high standard and at this price point you expect it, especially given the location and the competition in the area. 10/10 for the Chartreuse cocktails. Loved the classic Champs-Élysées which they make with brandy. Though my personal favorite is not on the menu but they can make and make very well (Green Point with Rye). Very good Aficionado (gin) as well. Though we might be biased/easily swayed as this was our first night out since the baby and first cocktails in over a year. Also 5 stars for bringing back Burgers and Burgundy on Sundays!!!!! As for the prix fixe Saturday, Lobster first worth the supplement, but with the inter of the white truffle pasta, pick a protein/lean main or you won't have room for the beignets! (Just my preference, though order only one as you get four beignets and will want every last drop of the generous bowl of crème anglaise on the side, and/or split with something light and refreshing for two desserts like the panna cotta with green apple granita). Dry-aged duck two ways was my favorite of the entrees at the table. They know duck here. Whatever the iteration. Rec: Pre-order a big chocolate chip cookie for the ride home to gift your sitter.

    Robert D.

Really good experience at Spruce. My boyfriend had been dying to go here, each course was really good. Standouts were the Caviar Service. They had this amazing crème fresh with pickled onion, chives, and egg yolk . My boyfriend loved the duck entree and my NYStrip was really well cooked and seasoned. The reason why it was a 4 is 2 fold. The service was a little slow. We were there a little over 2 hours. Second, we both didn't care for our second courses. The Poached Quince and Radicchio and he got the Scallop special. Both were just ok to be honest. Otherwise, very good. The restaurant itself was cute but then the curing was giving like warehouse vibes but the restaurant was not the same vibe. The staff were super friendly and we overall had a good time.

    Sunil R.

Warm, welcoming service from the moment I walked in. I came through the bakery entrance and was immediately greeted and escorted into the restaurant -- a small detail that set the tone for the evening. The space is elegant but relaxed, and the food was excellent. Every plate looked like art, beautifully presented and thoughtfully composed. The chicken was my favorite -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and comforting in the best way. A standout experience overall -- gracious staff, beautiful food, and an atmosphere that feels refined without being pretentious. Parking is a major hassle. Recommend taking an Uber or Lyft here.

    Ask the Community - Spruce

Is parking your car in this area safe and is it close to the restaurant?

Presidio heights is a very safe neighborhood and there is only street parking available near the restaurant. Just a reminder to never leave anything in your car while in San Francisco regardless of the location. That includes sunglasses, water…

    What is their corkage policy?

    $50 is Spruce's corkage fee

Are there vegan/vegetarian options? Are the eggs sourced ethically from a free-range or pasture-raised farm?

Do you serve dinner menu in lunch time?

We do not. Some of the items are the same but not the whole menu.

How long does lunch usually take?

Dine in or takeout? Also depends on weekdays or weekend. Pre covid, dine in meals would take…

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

Yes, Dogs are allowed in outdoor park-lets.

    Is the restaurant kid-friendly?

Nope. It's also more formal than most San Francisco restaurants.

Is there a Happy Hour and if so, when?

Yes. I don't know exactly, but likely between 5-6pm on weekdays.

How is parking in the area?

In my experience, it is the worst. Went there for lunch and there was no valet. Best to take some kind of public transport including rideshares like Lyft. It's not far from California St so the 1 Calif bus is an option.

Can you eat at the bar?

Yes, full dinner menu is available at the bar.

We were given menus. Then we waited 15 minutes and were never approached for a drink. Oh well,,, hostess came and founds up and took us to our table. Said table was VERY small and shoved into a very small corner in back of a smallish but VERY loud room. Server took at least 10 minutes to greet our table and take a drink order. Drinks were fine but nothing to write home about. Ordered deviled eggs for an appetizer. Smoked paprika flavor was overwhelming and we left 4 of the six eggs uneaten. Dinner guest ordered Flat iron steak and fries. Said it was ok "Like a steak at Chili's". He left half his steak and didn't want a box to take the leftover. Also ordered the Mac-n-cheese side and said it was bland and had a mushy texture. I ordered the Black Cod. It was under seasoned and bland. Server was fine and I mean that in the most average and forgettable way. While I understand the restaurant was busy and they can't help noise levels or where we were sat (someone has to sit in that table, right?), I'm most disappointed in the things they could have controlled. Timely, friendly service and well seasoned quality food should be the cornerstones of any good restaurants and Wayfare Tavern displayed neither last night. One other rule I need to remember to live by. ALWAYS check yelp reviews vs. OpenTable. OT consistently has EXTREMELY high reviews that don't always "add up". Wayfare Tavern, for example is a 4.7 stars in over 8,300 reviews, while it only receives 3.9 stars in Yelp with over 4,000 people reviewing it on this platform. Just my opinion but for context I eat out for work 3-4x a weeks all over the country and Wayfare did not come close to a 4.7 star or even a 3.9 star experience.

You give me a Calabrian chili sauce and it's guaranteed to make me happy and this shrimp with sweet corn was no exception. Again, light but a punchy flavor that was enjoyable. I could go on and on about the different dishes we tried but the real standout of the night was the pork tenderloin with chorizo and peaches.
