Overpriced and over cooked! Fish was dry and the clam chowder was horrible. I do not recommend this place at all.

Oh dear Spuds, You have fallen so far from grace. I've enjoyed many pieces of tasty delicious fish, chowder, etc at Alki Spuds...I used to work nearby. Today I was waiting in the Edmonds/Kingston ferry line and feeling a bit peckish and delighted when I notice the Edmonds Spuds. I ordered a 2 piece fish and chips and a small chowder. It was $20!!!! for 2 pieces of fish, a cup of chowder and essentially no service, dishes etc. No beverage either. Oh yes, they charged for the tartar too with these ridiculous prices. The fries were underdone....soggy, the fish; overdone and dry, and the chowder...OMG the chowder, it tasted like a rue with a few clam bits thrown in. It was gritty with thickener and bland...flavorless. If I had to guess the recipe I'd say it was milk or water with flour and a couple clam parts. On a positive note...it was clean. Perhaps I'll try Alki again to see if it's the whole chain but not Edmonds, Yikes. read more

This was my first experience here. It was 7:20, near their 8 pm closing time. I ordered one-piece fish & chips and was puzzled by the way it was served. The french fries were in a small tray with the fish piece piled on top. It's not easy to cut a piece of fish on top of fries. I finally transferred the fish to a napkin. Considering the menu the place is expensive. You pay .45 for tartar sauce and $1.55 for small cup of coleslaw. If this is the fare you're after go to Ivars. read more

We had the WORST experience tonight and we will NEVER eat here again. We waited 40 min for our food and when we finally got home our whole order was messed up and we did not even get the food we paid over $100 for plus it was cold. I called and spoke with the manager Kevin who was not helpful at all and had no compassion to make it right. He didn't even offer to give us the food we had originally ordered. Worst fish and chips I've tasted in a long time. After several visits, each time the fish was chewy. The coating was flat, dry and tasteless. The fries were bland and soggy. Overall, a horrible meal on all three visits. Adding insult to injury, it's SO expensive. Last night, we ordered two fish and chips and two medium drinks (that were actually smalls), and the total came to $35. They even wanted a tip although we weren't getting table service. This is the second worse fish and chips I've ever had. Upon reading other reviews, and the only reason I ate here is because I love the one at Alki, did not know they (Alki) were owned by Ivar's! That said, there is an Ivar's up the street from this Spud, it'll be worth the trip. It's where I go to get fish and chips now before I head down to the ferry terminal. The service was prompt 2 pc Halibut & chips Side of onion rings Side of coleslaw Food did not meet expectations in any way Onion rings- Not fully cooked, limp there were only 4 of them. I don't know what is in a normal order, but we never noticed this before. At $4.75, that is not a decent value. Fries- Limp and undercooked. minimal flavor. Perhaps they should ask if the customer wants salt. Halibut- Seemed to be much thinner than previous orders. The breading was too crisp and the fish was tough. In general it was overcooked for the size of the filet. At nearly $21 this is too expensive for poorly prepared food. Coleslaw- Way too much mayo. poor flavor. Would not order this again read more

Do not go here it's awful. For four people we spent over $90 dollars. This is certainly way to expensive for fast food. A 3 piece fish and chips is $18 dollars, $10 more than Ivars I might add. The fish is thin and over smothered in breading. Service was underwhelming as well, they ran out of fish and clam chowder causing a long wait for food when there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant. The food is too greasy and not flavorful. The chowder was awful. A McDonalds filet-o-fish would have been better than spuds. I am actually pretty upset this place is occupying such a prime spot in downtown Edmonds. read more

Lunch Monday 5/16/2016 just past noon. Atmosphere is cold and unwelcoming. Industrial. Employees just going through the motions. No life, smiles or enthusiasm. Food is expensive and over-cooked. Cod fish too tough and not very tasty. Clam strips have the texture of breaded pencil erasers. Expect to PAY extra for ANY tartar sauce. None is included with your pricey fish. You get free tartar sauce at Ivars. Really, it's no wonder why the place was almost totally empty at the noon hour. By the way, I read a response from the owner or manager of this place in one of the other reviews that said they hire high school students and give them an opportunity to learn skills like customer service. it seemed like she was making an excuse for the bad customer service at Spud. The key to good customer service is the MANAGER/OWNER. Don't lay this problem at the feet of the employee. it's YOUR fault you have lousy service and bad attitudes at Spud, Ms. Manager/Owner. Your fault. And your fault only. There are many businesses who hire the same type of people, but have no customer service issues. Why? Because they have GOOD management. Save yourself. When I was in line for the ferry I had some time to kill. I decided to go to Spuds fish and chips. When I entered I was greeted and had little to no wait to order my food. The place is very clean so it made me feel comfortable. My number was called out and my food was done in a timely manner so I wasn't worried about having to rush back to my car. The food was delicious and tasted fresh. If you want convenient good fish and chips on the go while you wait for the ferry, or the trip to the beach and/or just a stroll downtown Edmonds you should try Spuds! Wow, such a disappointment. I have been a fan of spuds at Green Lake for over 30 years, so was happy to have one closer to home, but this is nothing like Spud's. Things started badly when I realized my order was wrong and they had overcharged me. They were unable to issue a refund for the additional item, apparently a system limitation. That was bad enough, but then the food fell far short of anything I would expect from Spud's. The fish was OK, but not Spud's, and the chowder was like a bad, thick potato soup without clams. Won't be back, it is worth the drive to Green Lake. read more

Unsafe covid practices. Employees are not required to wear masks even though it is a statewide mandate. They says they "prefer" not too and it's their "preference". Absolutely not okay during a pandemic. And very irresponsible of the business owners. read more

I ordered the rockfish and chips and a side of fried pickles. It was all very tasty, cooked just right, and was some of the best fish and chips and fried pickles I've had, which is saying a lot considering the price. Also very speedy and friendly service, perfect for a meal while waiting for the ferry. Highly recommend and will definitely go back. read more

Hand Down, Best Fish & Chips place in town !! I normally like the Alki Beach Spud, But when I saw the one in Edmonds had moved I had to check it out and I was Not disappointed !! This location just has such a Cool Retro-like feel to it. Nothing Fancy just a clean cool atmosphere. Friendly folks on my visit. Excellent location next to ferry. In fact, if ya get there early enough you can walk there and make it back to the ferry before they load. The Fish (Cod) & Chips(Fries) are excellent but the Halibut is to die for. So Good !! Lots of other extras, Scallops, Calamari, Clams, Breaded Mushrooms, Shrimp Cocktail, Caesar Salad, Cole slaw, Onion Rings, Breaded Artichoke Hearts and More ! So glad founder, England-born Jack Alger started his stand way back in 1935. I'm sure he'd be proud. Also noticed you can get Shirts & Hats now....... We have been regulars in the Green Lake space and happy that they are here by Edmonds now! Same good quality of food , quick service at a great price.. and I DON'T mind the 50 cent tartar sauce. I was sitting in the never ending ferry line to get home on a Friday evening. Instead of grabbing ferry food I decided to try this place. The food actually wasn't horrible (overly salty, a bit dry. Fries were "meh")- but... I ordered halibut and chips because I really don't enjoy cod. Unfortunately, I didn't check my receipt (he rung me up for cod and that's definitely what I received) by the time I noticed, there wasn't time to correct my order due to needing to get back to my car so I wouldn't be "that person" holding up the line when the next boat loads. I also ordered a tarter sauce (cause, what's fish and chips without it?) But when I got to my car to eat - no tarter. So, it's "ok". I've had worse. But be sure to check your order! read more

This location is so convenient since it's just down the street from my work. I love coming here because of the size and quality of cod you get is great. I also love ordering their calamari. My go-to sides would be tarter, marinara and their garlic aioli. read more

My family enjoys the food from Spud and we generally order once every week or so. However, we are increasingly frustrated with their response to new Covid health standards. The last several times I picked up my to go order, I noticed they weren't wearing masks or gloves. I should have said something, but didn't feel comfortable. They are now charging $5 to bring your order out to your car, a service that was previously free. I don't understand why they are choosing to disregard the health and safety of their customers and coworkers by refusing to wear simple PPE. Or why they have discontinued a helpful, friendly service such as bringing an order out to a car window. I won't be returning to Spud, especially while Covid concerns persist. There are many other options for take out in Edmonds where the businesses actually seem to value their customers. read more

I suppose it was unfair to compare Ivars 3pc for 8.19, to Spud's 2pc. @ 11.70, but the quality is where its at. Visiting this place, I've realized how nice some other places are. This place is noisy, sticky, stingy and just kind of irritating all around. I miss Ivars thick fillets, so much better than this 1/4 thick crap! This place doesn't belong here, go to Bellevue! This place had the best fish n chips. I'm not a fan of cod, so we ordered the salmon fish and chips. The batter was exceptional. Holy wow! Light and crispy and not too greasy. The tarter sauce cost extra but it was worth the price and worth purchasing a large one. I slathered everything in this sauce. The clam chowder was meh but I didn't have high expectations because chowder isn't their speciality. They have a house-made vinegar that is absolutely out of this world. I thought this was OK if you are wanting some fresh fish. The breading is not awesome. The pieces of fish are pretty big and a one piece was fine for me. My daughter liked chicken strip. Restaurant was clean and spacious. Parking is no problem. The employees I dealt with were nice. A lot of people complain about the pricing but the pieces of fish are rather big. You might be able to find a different restaurant for cheaper but the cuts of fish will be smaller. Not my favorite fish and chips but definitely not the worst. Decent. read more

I was excited when Spuds first opened in Edmonds. I remember how good it was in the original location. We were underwhelmed. Prices were high and the fish and clam strips were leathery. Now, it's a few years later and anthony's wasn't taking sit down reservations for lunch. So we pass by Spuds. Decided to give it another try. It was worst. Because I paid them $83 for lunch for 3 and I had to buy the tarter sauce. It was the same over fried clam strip and fish. The pieces are too thin and small. Almost impossible to not overcook. Worst meal again for the money. I'll try to remember to keep driving next time and go to arnies instead. BTW, don't order the chowder. Taste like soupy mashed potatoes. read more

Welp, we're done with Spud at this location, maybe all locations. We were in the ferry line last weekend and got a couple 3-piece fish and chips, clams, and fried pickles. Everything was thoroughly mediocre. The breading on the fish is small breadcrumbs and has a tendency to fall off in big chunks. The fish itself is edible when it's hot but when it cools it turns to rubber. Really, that's the texture. The fries are soft and soggy. Yuck. The clams were just okay but could have been better with good tartar sauce. Too bad their's is not. The fried spicy pickles aren't terrible but they're super salty. The cocktail sauce was honestly the best part of the meal. For the calorie count, this place just isn't worth it. We won't make the same mistake again waiting in the ferry line. read more
