I've definitely had better fish and chips, but I will say it was soo satisfying after walking from the ferry. The fries and tartar sauce are delicious! The fish is a lot of batter, I ended up eating around a lot of it. The soup was just alright. The window upstairs was hard to see through, but it would be a cool view. read more

Great food, but kinda pricey :-/ I usually go to Duke's but their fish and chips are even more expensive so I come to Spuds when I'm on a budget. The fish is pretty crispy though, and they have a variety of sauces you can use. Pretty decent amount of seating inside and outside too. I had heard of this place, but I've never been that into fish & chips. Anyway, the mother-in-law was in town & wanted fish & chips; what MIL wants, MIL gets. So, diet put on the back burner, we went down to Spud on Alki. Now, I'm not sure if it tasted so great because I had been depriving myself of everything fried & delicious, or if it tasted great because it IS great. I'm going with "it IS great". I love the crunchiness of the batter, and it tastes like the fish was fried in butter. The tartar is pretty good too. I don't really remember the fries being good or bad, so I'm going with ok on those. This place is not cheap, but you do get really large pieces of fish. I couldn't finish the 2 piece, so next time I'm going for just one. read more

Let's see I've been to all three Spud's several times. This is my first review. The West Seattle Spud's is my favorite. Why? Location! This location is situated directly across the street from Alki Beach. The food at Spud's is also great. It's very comparable to Ivar's Fish Bar although I lean toward Ivar's as a favorite. They are relatively expensive for a fish and chips joint (plan to spend around 10 bucks per person). However, to me, 10 bucks is small price to pay for oceanfront dining. read more

First time visit to Spud's with the family. Three of us ordered the 2pc fish and chips meal. The fish filets are huge and tasty and the fries are very good as well. Those that ordered the chicken tenders found them delish as well. The total for our 5 meals was $47.50 and a little on the pricey side. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here. read more

Earlier this week, my boyfriend and I came here after a bonfire on Alki with our friends. The first thing that I noticed about Spuds is that it's busy, busy, busy. We ordered the fish & chips, as well as the clam chowder. The fish was tender and flakey on the inside, crisp on the outside. As for the the chowder, there were chunks of potatoes and bacon bits throughout, which added a nice touch. I raved about it to my parents, so we took a spontaneous trip here for a late dinner. We ordered the fish & chips, scallops, and chowder. The scallops were extra crispy, and cooked to perfection. This time around, I dipped the fish in the garlic vinegar, and it was excellent! Next time (hopefully soon) I want to try the other vinegars. read more

This is a very popular fish and chips Restaurant. It's very friendly and very quick with the service and everyone is quick with a smile and a greeting the minute you walk in the door. There are a couple places to sit and eat, one of them being upstairs where you get a view of the water which is very nice. My only complaint is that the fish is greasy, very greasy and, yes, I know we are talking about fried fish , but this just tastes like a mouth full of oil . Let me start by saying they charge you for ketchup!! For a 3 pieces and a 2 piece fish and chips it was almost $30! No ketchup! We had to pay for extra tarter sauce! Some time ago I pronounced Sunfish the superior fish & chip spot in West Seattle. Came back to Spud's last night to judge how valid my pronouncement really was. Turns out I was right. Nice job on the newly refurbished accommodations I will say. But having both the cod and the prawns left me agreeing with myself that there is nothing special here. The fish, while nicely cooked, is flavorless. The batter they use is way too thick. I think there was more batter than prawn. For some reason most of the fries the three people in my party received were pieces not whole fries. The chowder is way too thick. Staying with Sunfish. read more

The view of Alki beach is one of this place's best qualities. I hear the upstairs seating is great but we ended up finding a spot downstairs because it was so busy that day. Their fish and chips are very good, also very large...so be careful how much you order! The red chowder is pretty good, light and tasty. I would suggest this place. read more

Always Professional and Great food when you have a hankering for fish n chips. To have been in business so long they obviously have a good thing going. Atmosphere is not fancy but the experience is clean and consistent. The Menu is simple and classic. If you sit upstairs there is a nice view of the Puget Sound and passing shipping and ferry traffic. read more

Where have you been all my life? I wish Spud's had more locations around the sound because Alki is a bit far out for me. The 1-piece fish'n'chips is PLENTY. 1-piece of cod is the size of a large man's hand. I'm used to the dinky finger-sized portions Ivar's offers. Though it's certainly not the type of food you'd want to eat everyday, once in a while it's great to go to Spud and get some awesome fish and chips. I guess I'm picky, but I've never been a fan of Ivar's. While some would point out that Ivar's now owns Spud, I definitely taste a difference between the two restaurants. Spud's scallops are delicious, and the fries a guilty, greasy pleasure. The fish is fresh-tasting and flaky. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous, too. read more

My sister and I were on a mission to find fish and chips, specifically the tempura type battered fish for my sis. We passed by Sunfish even though the smell was delightful. We opted for Spud's this time. I didn't have too high expectations, so my meal was decent. I ordered the clams and fries. The clams were delicious and the fries had potential but not much seasoning, needed to add salt. My sister on the other hand, ordered the halibut and fries $14.99 and was quite disappointed. It was not tempura battered which we knew, but took our chances anyhow. The tarter tasted like relish, awful, i guess unless you like that taste. I think we'll be trying another spot next time. read more

SPUDS has a "feel good" vibe to it . Rich with history, an outsider can temporarily experience life as an Alki native. The Fish & Chips is good and fresh, so are the fried oysters.
