I think 4 stars are being generious really and it has to do with the prices. $12 and some change for a large soda, chips and three pieces of fish. This to me is a bit pricey and I don't care if this is prime waterfront property. Knock the price down at least two bucks and I'd be eating there more often. But I will say this though the place is quite clean, food is cooked to order, the staff is nice enough and they have GARLIC malt vinegar! The fish and chips were quite delish! With the fish having a nice crisp but not too crisp fried breaded coating and the fries still being on the firm side and not all limp and blah. We were supposed to go to a wedding party across the street but we we're very late and the food was gone. I spotted this little gem across the street and I'm so glad I did. My bf got prawns and chips and I got a 2 piece and chips and a bowl of clam chowder. I thought about ordering more, well I'm glad I didn't the portions are huge. The fish is a fillet.Perfectly golden brown on the outside. It was delicious and so juicy. I really loved the prawns they were so crispy on the outside and juicy with flavor with each bite. The clam chowder was my favorite part of dinner. I tried their malt vinegars and they were equally delicious especially on my fries. Spud's is a local institution, and I used to love the one on Green Lake and the one in Kirkland. However, in this location the food seems particularly bland. That coupled with the high prices for fast food make me think twice about going to Spuds. read more

Way overpriced. All they charge for is their view of the ocean which is highly overrated based on the fact that they heat the room to about 80degrees so that they can get you away from their restaurant faster. They charged about $5 extra for fried halibut over cod; and their fish was so shitty I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I tried my best to be positive and take their clam chowder home, attempting to make it thicker and more rich so I can at least have an enjoyable meal and that failed. Honestly, lower your prices to your shit standards or watch yourself go out of business because wow. I was disgusted and dissatisfied with my meal. I love fish and chips; seafood period. I've lived in Seattle all my life and I have to say this is the best fish and chips I've had here! First of all you can't beat the location. Right in the heart of Alki beach means it's hard to find parking but the view is great. It's a tiny bit pricey here but I'm more than willing to pay extra for good quality food and great service. The pieces of fish are huge, two pieces is enough to get you full. I also love the crunch on the outside if the fish which is fried oh so lovely. They have a selection of vinegar as well ( the garlic one is the most popular ). My second favorite thing here is the clam strips :D the staff is always friendly and willing to accommodate. The last time I was here, I told them I was allergic to tartar sauce and they offered me a free shrimp cocktail instead. Very nice. I used to come here once every summer as a kid and just went back today for the first time in 5-7 years maybe. Unfortunately, it's not as good as I remembered. I think they changed the recipe. If you're into a crunchy breadcrumb stick-to-the-fish batter than you will love this. But if you like a softer loose batter than I would go somewhere else. I had cod and the Fish itself was good, I was just really disappointed by the batter. Also, their tartar sauce was way too sweet which I didn't care too much for... but I'm sure others might enjoy? Spud has been around forever and I hope it never goes away! I remember feeling totally freaked when I learned that the owners had sold out to Ivar's...well not to worry! Was in Seattle a few days ago with a friend and decided to get fish and chips. Stopped by Spud's and I don't regret it at all. We went on a Tuesday night so it wasn't very busy. Ordered quickly, got two 3 piece cod and fries meals and two shrimp cocktails. The person taking our order was nice enough to give us the special price for one to save us a little money. Spent about 30 dollars for the two of us. When we got our order we ventured to the upstairs to eat. The portions are substantial, very large pieces of fish for what you're paying or. The breading on the fish is perfect, it was very tasty. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp cocktail but I'm willing to get over it because they did such a good job on the fish. It holds up well after being refrigerated as well, probably due to the light breading. I'll definitely be returning when I'm up in Seattle again. It might even be worth driving up just for the food. read more
