Just had an awful experience at Sunfish, we thought we would stop by after a walk on Alki, as it just reopened. As we had our dog with us, I hung outside as my partner went in to order some Calamari and some halibut to go, I was just watching the beach, when she came storming out, saying 'let's go'. Apparently the older man behind the counter was ignoring her, then she asked if she can order... he just grunted at her.. she asked for the calamari, he said 'don't have' she asked for Halibut, he said 'don't have that'....... It was all weird apparently.... As if he may have thought she was homeless or something?? Lol her hair was messy from the beach.... ‍ Anyway he was very dismissive of her, I wanted to go back in and question him about it, but she wouldn't let me, as she felt pretty disrespected by him, and just wanted to leave. Came by here recently while visiting the Alki Beach area. This spot is towards the end of Alki Ave towards the point. My kind of fish & chip type place, kinda old school, classic looking by the seaside. Wasn't too busy when we came by in the afternoon, menu board was pretty straightforward, so we just got the 3 Piece Cod and Fries. They cook it to order, takes a few minutes to make, the lady will call your number when it's ready. It was freshly fried up and it looked great! They will give you a side of tartar and ketchup, I think they charge you extra if you want more. Fish was crispy and cod pieces were decent sized, not dry, fries were good, overall it satisfied our fish & chip craving. Prices weren't too bad, service appears to be old school family run, don't expect too much chit chat, they are trying to move the line and get your order going. I saw this place on social and decided to give it a go. It was the hole in the wall type, so I was like heck yeah! I chose this place over Spuds Fish n Chips because they had the combination which gave me a piece of everything. The combination had Halibut, Prawns and Oysters, all about the mixed platter life. Don't expect major decor, it was simple and basic. An elderly man working the counter was just doing his job. So he wasn't thee friendliest but he wasn't rude. Sunfish is fantastic! I'm usually very picky about fish and chips, but I really love the style here. I ordered the Medium Cod, which comes with two pieces of fish and fries. I typically go for cod since it's the most affordable option, but I was amazed by how delicious it was! I even received a bonus piece, probably because one piece was on the smaller side, but I really appreciated it. The meal comes with two small cups of their homemade tartar sauce, but I recommend ordering a few extra cups just in case! The man at the counter (probably one of the owners) was incredibly friendly and welcoming. There wasn't much of a line, so we placed our order quickly and received our food promptly. My sister and I got dinner here last week and the man working is sooo sweet. I ordered a 3 piece cod and my sister ordered 2 and we both were so surprised when we got home and saw that he had added an extra piece each for us. Literal angel. Fish was delicious. Loved the home made tartar and malt vinegar. When we were there he was trying to get us to take some Halloween candy haha. Will have to come back more often when I'm craving fish and chips. I have been a customer of Sunfish for over 20 years. We have taken many family and friends there for lunch and dinner. Unfortunately during our last visit with our guests from another country the owner insulted them where they were from. I was less than impressed by the rudeness of the owner behind the counter which left me stunned and embarrassed. Their attitude is that they are the only fish and chip restaurant in the Seattle area. This was not a welcoming environment. First thing out of the cashier's mouth was "For here or to go?" He was an older man, no smile, no greeting, just a demand for an answer. I thought, alright, it's the weekend and the line was long. Maybe this guy hadn't had a break yet. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, accepted his cranky behavior, and let it go. So I placed an order for fish and chips and chowder. He then puts 1 ketchup and 1 tartar sauce on the tray. I then requested extra tartar sauce. I had no problem paying extra for tartar sauce, but for some reason he gave me a glaring stare, took away the ketchup, and added the extra tartars on the tray. I never told him I didn't want the ketchup so I politely let him know I was okay having ketchup. He paused, gave me another glaring stare, and put the ketchup back on the tray. Ok, at that point I knew something was off. He gave me the total due and I handed him my credit card. After the transaction went through he tossed my credit card and receipt on the tray instead of handing it back to me. Rude! I saw him politely return credit cards back to other customers and exchanged pleasantries with them. I don't know what was up with this guy's microaggressions but he reeked extremely bad vibes. My order number was called. A different employee gave me the fish and chips. He might have been his brother. This guy was friendly though. I inquired about the missing clam chowder. Apparently I was supposed to receive it at the time of payment. Without hesitation the nice employee prepared it for me. The guy at the register has some serious interpersonal issues. I was curious to see if my customer service experience was a one-off. Apparently he's treated other people poorly too as I started reading previous reviews. Seems like he's been this way for quite some time. I didn't see any younger generations working there either. I don't think they would tolerate that kind of behavior. I'm sad that Duke's on Alki closed. I've never had any problems at Spuds either; I'm glad I can still get fish and chips on Alki without having to visit this restaurant ever again. read more

These greek brothers refuse to upgrade their credit card dial up service, so if you're paying by card, wait for that 26k modem to activate, make the phone call to the bank and after like 2 minutes, your payment will go through. This can be painful because a line can form easily because of this. Why is this the best fish n chips around? Particularly the Cod? (Not a fan of Halibut). Its breaded perfectly, no oil and PIPING HOT!!! and Juicy!!! If you got a sensitive mouth, better wait a minute or two before taking that first bite, massive warnings to ya!!! How can it be so hot, yet so juicy and still tender at same time? What type of voodoo is this? Just remember, order the Cod n Chips, we actually always skip the fries, you also get charged less if you say no fries. We only have time for the good stuff, the Cod, the Prawns, Oysters, Chowder etc. We keep meaning to try the skewers, soon, one day. Additionally, the famously sometimes temperamental brothers that own the place seem to have softened up a bit. I was immediately transported back to the 80's when I stepped inside Sunfish. It's an old school seafood restaurant located next to Alki Beach with a great view and serves up delicious fried seafood. Order at the counter and then pick up your order once it's called. The inside has several tables to dine in and the outside wrap around patio has about 10 tables. Ordered the following: Cod combination - 1 piece of cod, 2 prawns, 2 oysters and fries. The cod, prawns, and oysters were fried to perfection and delicious. The fried oysters are some of the best I've ever had. The fries were subpar and weren't crispy. For a dollar less, you can get any order without fries. Kalamari - lightly breaded and fried to perfection. One of the best calamari I've never had. It's pricey but worth it! Overall, the fried Kalamari and oysters were exceptional! This time I decided to try the oyster basket and it did not disappoint. They were very generous with the portions of fries. I love how they had garlic vinegar on the side which is a game changer. The chowder was what caught me off guard because it was so good and rich. The chowder had tons of clams in it too. The location is nice and they have outside seating so that you can see the water as you eat. The service was lacking where the folks working there were just trying to get through the day. The halibut and chips are to die for. I lived at Alki for 25yrs and Sunfish is the best, Spuds was good til it got bought by Ivars. I read one review about a person thinking the cashier not being friendly, this is a family owned business owned by two brothers from Greece, at least they winter there and are closed off season. Sunfish has been in West Seattle for over 30yrs, used to be on Fauntleroy and moved to the beach yrs ago. If you want good fish go here, Spuds is not as good but is better known.
