I get take-out quite often from this restaurant and ordered take out on 4/7/2020. It was pouring rain when I arrived and parked in front of the location. Because my order was paid for by credit card, I didn't think it was necessary to bring my purse inside. Fausto greeted me and handed me my bag. I asked if I could have a little extra salad dressing, he told me it's forty cents!! Decided against running back and forth to my car in the pouring rain. Insensitive customer service. Two girlfriends and I just stopped by here for dinner last night at a recommendation from a co-worker of ours and it was a great last minute pick! I had tried to call in earlier for a reservation but they didn't take any. Fortunately, we didn't have any problems getting a table indoors (or outdoors if we wanted) at that time. The two of us who were into antipasti started with a plate of Spumoni appetizer which included salami, prosciutto, ham, 2-3 different kind of cheeses, roasted red peppers and olives. That in combination with the delicious bread (two different types and both yummy!) and the olive tapenade, it was a great start. The house red wines were also pretty good, we each separately had a chardonnay, pinot noir and chianti for $6-8 a glass. Two of us ordered from the full page of gnocchi bar selection. All the dishes were named after great actors/entertainers which was fun. We both thought the gnocchi could have been a little 'softer'. We both preferred it to melt in our mouths and these didn't. The sauce was good and the gnocchi was still tasty but it had more of a physical presence than we both preferred. The one that says spicy sauce is definitely VERY spicy so watch out :-) So for the gnocchi, i'm knocking off 1/2 star... My other friend ordered the matteo salad and enjoyed it very much. The other 1/2 star would come from the fact that they just hurriedly brought us the check and didn't even ask if we wanted dessert. For a place called 'Spumoni', I was actually looking forward to having some spumoni ice cream at the end but no luck. They must have been in a hurry to get us out of there cause there certainly was a line out the door by the time we left and we had spent some time chatting and enjoying each other's company. I have been going here for about 5 years and this place only gets better. The first thing to be talked about is their customer service. Quite a few other restaurants could take a page from this Spumoni's training manual. The guys who work here seem happy and it flows through them and out to me and my dining experience. The food is good some dishes are excellent. It's priced for what it is. I have had better, but of course, I paid more. My favs: I usually order their house cab and it's excellent. I have heard they have great wine from some of my friends as well. Chicken Parmigiana Cioppino -Husband's fav Eggplant Parmigiana Spaghetti Bolognese Gnocchi The bread and olive tapenade they give you when you sit down is so yummy and perfect for the hungriest of people while they wait. They share parking in the back with Starbucks and a few other shops. I haven't had a problem with finding parking. You can order online, they deliver close by and they let dogs on the patio. I used to live right by Spumoni, and it was definitely a go-to place for us. Love the bread they give you when you sit down. Love the waiters. Love love love the gnocchi! Especially with meat sauce. I have to say my favorite dish, however, is the Penne Caprino (penne pasta in a white sauce with sundried tomatoes and goat cheese... please forgive me if I'm forgetting some major ingredient, those are just the ones that stick in my mind). You can also add chicken to your dish if you feel you need to add a little protein to your carbo-load. One of the reasons we always found ourselves having dinner here (besides the insanely convenient location) is because the price isn't too bad, especially for being on Montana Ave., home of shi-shi stores and eateries. We even had a Valentine's Day tradition of ordering take out from Spumoni and eating it at home (so we didn't have to deal with the crowds). Because we have since moved away, we actually went in and ate, and even though they had a fixed menu, they still let us substitute what was on the fixed menu with other items from the regular menu. I came here with a group of six on Saturday night around 7pm. The place was full when we arrived but we got seated within 10 minutes which was nice. There's nothing special about the ambiance...It did feel rather cramped inside so I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a group. The service was eh. It seemed like we constantly had to ask for things like bread, water etc. I have to say the menu was very large so it was really difficult to decide what to order. Our table ordered Lasagna, Arrabiata, a seafood soup, Eggplant Parmigiana, and Linguine Pescatore. I think the general consensus was that it was just ok. I've had way better Italian food and honestly this was no better than Olive Garden in my opinion. It seemed like maybe the gnocchi and pizza were the way to go but none of us ordered that so I guess we'll never know. Overall, I would give this place 2.5 stars. Solid food. Probably a 3-star meal overall, but the Gnocchi really elevated the whole experience for me. Gnocchi are finicky, and Spumoni has clearly made it a priority to get it right. Restaurant was bustling on a Friday night, but we were seated fairly quickly. A LOT of kids and families were in attendance, which I wouldn't have necessarily planned on at 8:30 on a Friday night (they had an award up for being named a "best selection for family" by some local publication). Similarly-priced Fritto Misto, while also hectic, manages to maintain a slightly more romantic vibe. My boyfriend had the Pollo Milanese, which was pretty good. Caprese was average, mostly because the tomatoes were average (it's not tomato season, so hard to fault them too much for this). I'm also not a fan of lettuce/arugala with caprese...I'm a bit of a cheese/tomato/basil purist in this area. Service was good all around. Second Review: Initially I reviewed this place on Monday 4/28/08 and wasn't that excited about this place but we tried it again yesterday and bravely brought friends to join and boy were we pleased. Everything was amazing! First Review: With no reservation, my husband and I arrived a little after 5pm. We took our time, sat outside and watched all the nice cars drive by. I gave this place 3 stars for the sheer fact that I don't like small eateries with vast menus. Granted pastas aren't difficult to make, but having to choose is oh so hard. So I went with the special, usually can't go wrong. The olive tapanade and bread were only the beginning of our a fabulous meal. We each had the house vino (red and white) then we ordered the eggplant goat cheese salad, so yum. As for our main course, which they messed up, I had the grilled salmon and he the bow tie pasta with salmon. Everything turned out to be so savory and filling. We didn't save room for dessert, but with all the kids walking by with their tcby yogurt, we made a pit stop next door. This place gets packed even on Mondays. The gnocchi are OK...They are not mass produced, but I think that they may have been frozen. Not sure, most of them were stuck to another gnocchi. But, the real problem was the sauce. I don't know what restaurants like this do to pesto sauce that should be simple and mostly basil and olive oil. Instead, they make it into some half creamy green soup that the pasta is swimming in. Totally ruined it for me. The tira mi su was terrible. You know something has to be pretty bad when I won't finish my dessert. Tira mi su is supposed to made with mascarpone, not whipped cream. It was totally flavorless, dry and nasty. I would have given them one star, but I appreciate the authenticity of the gnocchi. read more

After eating at this place for 10 years I decided to take my friend to this place. What was an excellant italian place has turned into medicore worse than cafeteria food. What a shame! The bread tasted worse than Ralphs bread and the olive tapenade was tastless. My penne arrabiata was nothing more than mostly oil with cheap flavorless tomato suace. This place has gone downhill! This is a good little italian restaurant. The food is quite good and very reasonably priced. Also they have a good parking lot right behind which is always a big plus. The downsides are that this location gets very loud when the dinning room is full. Also sometimes you need to get there by 6:00p.m. if you don't want to wait half an hour for a table. This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in L.A. It's cozy, small and a little more out of the way on Montana Ave, not fancy, but the food is most definitley worth it. The menu consists of an extensive amount ofpasta choices to choose from, as well as pizza, and some meat and seafood dishes. The pasta is home-made, everything is fresh, and everything I have ever tried here, was absolutely delicious... The pasta dishes are very close to those I had when I used to live on the other side of the world, in Italia. The gnocchi is amazing!! I have never had their salad because the serving sizes are large and most of the time I can only finish half of the pasta dish, which is great b/c it is just as tasty the next day for lunch at work.... so I recommend skipping the salad if you are having a gnocchi, or any pasta dishes other than ravioli. I always bring my visiting friends and family to Spumoni when they are in the mood for italian, and everyone loves it. My family (from the east coast) was visiting me here last week, and they said the food and service was outstanding, and that definitley want to come back next time they visit. We had to wait a bit for an indoor table on the day it was raining (it rarely rains in SoCal btw), but the food arrived to our table relatively quickly. Fresh warm bread and delicous olive tampenade was served while we wait.ed for our entrees. The staff is super sweet & we even got complimentary tiramisu dessert the last two times I came in for dinner. If you still have room for dessert, the tiramisu is soft, fluffy, and tastes superb. read more

OMG awesome.. My favorite in the area.. Twisted bread is great.. The service was great always right there when needed.. Got the food hot and good.. Went with Grandma & Gpa. She had ravoli which was great had flavor. He has spegetti which was great as well, pa hardly ever finish's a meal and he ate all of it and some of gmas.. My Gnocchi with alfredo was excellent , the dumplings where very nice, not mushy, cooked I'd say Perfect... Every bite was great I ate it all. We will be going back . Its a must try if in the area. I only know of service during lunch. My coworkers and I come here at least once/week and I must say, everything I've had so far is just so yumm! I like the meat lasagna and linguini con calamari. Their chicken Ceasar salad is fresh and well prepared, my favorite! They do have a lunch special where you can choose any pasta dish at half and a soup/salad. Every meal is served with fresh, warm bread and a great olive tapenade. The waiters are always pleasant with good service. We walked (or rolled) back to work, tummies feeling satisfied! This place reminds me of Little Italy in NYC with the look & feel. Spumoni's is no stranger to the neighborhood because all you have to do is walk by the place to see that it's always full to the brim with people with a dog or two strapped to the tree outside. The food is good with very fair portions and you definitely should try the veal (apologies animal lovers), and their deserts are fantastic! Granted it's not on the level of Capo's on Ocean, but then neither are the prices. I heard many times from other people going there that, "the food is consistent, never a bad meal". I have never had to wait very long for the food to arrive, all-in-all another fine neighborhood restaurant for locals here in Santa Monica. read more

A friend of mine and I went to the famous Montana Avenue Holiday Walk sale and have decided to have a dinner. Most of the places were pretty crowded and we went to Spumoni. We were asked if it's all right to sit outside so we said sure. It was quite cold but the heater was next to us and it was all right. We ordered two pastas and it took more than 30 minutes to be served! Fortunately, the food was hot and they were tasty. It looked like a very small place where has a quite small kitchen. But come on, even though it was quite busy, how come it took more than 30 minutes for them to serve two plates of pasta? Did they need to go to Italy to purchase some pasta? I don't think so. Our waiter came to our table twice and told us that our dinner's on the way, but never apologetic. Very large menu and taste good, but I'd rather not to wait that long... read more

I come here often & have everything is normally pretty good. Well, last month my family was in town for the Holiday. I decided to do a pick up order- 2 Pizzas and a salad. It was terrible! They seriously did this- They gave us a large cheese pizza that was obviously old- and put the toppings we requested on top of it raw. I do enjoy the pasta here. The last time I was here, I got the Pasta Bolognese, which was good but C&O in Venice is great. Anyway, I met a friend for lunch here today and armed with a BOGO coupon so I got the Spaghetti Portofino with shrimp and artichokes in a white wine and cream sauce while my buddy got the Linguine Rustica with sausage, spinach, olives, capers with a garlic and tomato sauce. Both came with salads so I had the mixed salad with Italian dressing and my friend had the caesar. We both enjoyed our meals tremendously and the pasta dishes were large enough for us to only be able to finish half of it with the leftovers becoming another yummy meal later. Service was friendly and efficient and kept our beverage filled without being obtrusive. That we had a coupon was a major score.
