5 stars for the name alone...
Spunky Dunkers - who are they? Would that be the customers? 'Cuz they'd be the ones doing the dunking, no? Or would it be the lovely ladies who dunk the batter into the hot oil turning thick liquid into fluffy tasty pastries? Whoever it's named for, one thing is for sure. They know how to make donuts.
You know you don't eat donuts because they're great fuel for yoga or anything like that. I mean, I know what I think when I eat a half dozen of them, I think, God, I'm disgusting. That's usually how I feel after eating 6 donuts from a remedial donut shop. After I ate 6 donuts from here, I didn't feel bad because I figured, well, if I'm going to pretty much eat empty calories, at least it was worth it. It's like the difference between blowing your calorie deficit at the movie theatres eating regular old soybean oil phony flavored popcorn, and eating the popcorn from Hollywood Palms which is made with real butter. I dunno, that was the best analogy I could make.
So if you check-in, you get an offer for a dozen at a discounted price. One of the more memorable donuts I got was the....
Chocolate Iced Buttercream x 1. It was like the best of both worlds, of cake and donut. Buttercream, mmm....the food of the gods. Not really, but it's crazy that I've never encountered such a thing before. Any why not? It makes sense. Donuts are kind of a cake, of sorts. The other donuts I got were..
Glazed French x 2 - Quite possibly the freshest cruller I've eaten in my life. And the cruller is my favorite donut. So Spunky Dunkers gets an A+. Do you know how many times I've ordered a cruller and then when I get in my car and take a bite and it's stale, hard, and making crumbs? If you're a cruller aficionado, you know that a proper cruller does NOT have crumbs.
Sugar x 2 - My wifes favorite donut. Fluffy, pillowy, like eating a cloud dipped in sugar. Soft on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside.
Bavarian Creme x 2 - Now we're getting to the part where if you haven't had enough of the sweetness, this takes you over the edge, If you haven't had a Bavarian Creme, and I don't know how that's possible, it's a powdered sugar donut filled with creme. Bavarian creme. I don't really know if it's the creme that is Bavarian, or if it's the donut, because the cream in a Boston Cream tastes pretty much the same? Just get one or two. Every dozen should have at least one.
Honey Dip x 2 - Raised donut (raised donuts are less cake-y), and just a teeny bit less sweet than a regular glazed donut, which I appreciate very much! And the freshness of the glaze makes all the difference in whether you will be wearing your donut or not.
German Chocolate x 1 - OMG genius! A chocolate cake donut dipped in toasted coconut?! I actually like the donut better than the cake, without the frosting, the donut owns the cake, big time.
Sour Cream x 1 - Some people cringe at the thought of eating a "Sour Cream" donut. Let me be the first to tell you, a sour cream donut doesn't taste like sour cream. No, it tastes more like nectar from an sapling tree in the Elysian Fields. I'm just kidding, but really, it doesn't taste like something you put on a baked potato or a Taco Supreme. It's crispy exterior and muted sweetness will make you forget the word "sour".
Buttermilk x 1 - I've had some buttermilk donuts that really left a bad taste in my mouth, literally. and some of them also left a bad waxy feeling in my mouth ahem! *cough (Dunkin Donuts) Spunky Dunkers has shown me the way, a life where I can eat a Buttermilk donut and enjoy it thoroughly.
Washed it all down with a cup of coffee and a cup of hot chocolate.
Come on down to Spunky Dunkers, have a visit with the ladies and you won't regret it. I guarantee it. read more
