Went for lunch today, and it's a great cozy little restaurant for sandwiches and burgers. It was a reunion of sorts with an "old" friend, and we did not feel rushed at all as we sat and visited for over an hour. I had a tuna melt with cheddar cheese on rye bread and it was chocked full of tuna, the cheese was ample and the tomatoes delicious. Fries too were hot and crispy. My friend started with an onion soup that smelled heavenly (she said it tasted great) and had a hamburger that was cooked to a perfect medium. Service was attentive and good. read more

I always get the same thing when I come here -- spinach, mushroom, onion, tomato, feta omelet with toast and homefries -- so I may not be qualified to speak to their other breakfast or lunch options. This is a little restaurant in Kennebunk that serves breakfast and dinner. The dinner is reasonably priced with huge portions. I ordered the steak frites and a side salad, the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the salad was served fast. Our server, who might have been an owner, was nice and everything we needed was given to us in a timely fashion. My husband had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes which was also very good. If I could give zero stars I certainly would ! My husband & I were seated at a 2 top table by the back door . Coffee mugs placed on table & we waited for server . I slid my chair forward & leg of chair fell into an unsafely installed air vent ( large hole without a cover) i fell into the table & ripped the skin on my forearm . When I realized I was bleeding, the server said " Oh, that's never happened before "... nothing else! My husband asked for a bandaid & antiseptic . No one on staff addressed the incident or provided any assistance . We left without eating, embarrassed, confused by lack of concern & injured . Do yourself a favor & don't subject yourself to be squeezed into such a tight space .. even to the point of placing a table & chair over an open air vent . But don't concern yourself Square Toes , bigger & better things are on their way . My advice .. be on your toes .. you never know who may be knocking on your door. read more

This place is fantastic!!! Clean, friendly staff and absolutely delicious food. They have parking and are open year round. I typically don't like breakfast restaurants because the food is greasy but the food here is fresh and really good quality. They have great lunch items too but it's more of our go to breakfast spot. read more

This place is definitely worth the short 10 minute drive from Kennebunkport. It is a great place if you want a full breakfast, as there aren't many places that offer one near Dock Square. It's a cute breakfast/lunch place, and very clean. The Bloody Mary was out of this world and very reasonably priced. The lobster Benedict had a generous portion of fresh lobster, and the homemade corn beef hash was a special and unique treat. The Maine blueberry pancakes were okay, the blueberries were good, but the pancake batter itself was a little bland. Went in today around 8 and the place was empty, no one, not even staff, we sat down, followed by another couple. We heard voices in the kitchen for a few minutes and when they came out I realized it was the delivery guy shooting the breeze with the cook, who gave the other couple menus and ignored us. Then 3 waitresses came in from the back door, im assuming from a "break", one started pouring coffee for a party of 4 that came in and then another went over to take their order. At this point, 10 minutes of being ignored, we got up to leave and one of the waitresses said "thanks for coming in" completely oblivious to the fact we were never waited on! Kennebunk can be a slightly off-course way for travelers to find decent fare, but I have to tell you - we were completely impressed by the staff, the ambiance and the food. Very relaxed and yet the brunch was fantastic ( I have a thing for "limp" bacon, and I actually got EXACTLY what I wanted!). Pancakes were so light and fluffy... well, you get the idea. My better half had a French bread egg sandwich pesto and bacon thing (sorry, I can't find the menu anywhere) and it was awesome as well. Big double thumbs up for this place. read more

I really want to give a better rating... But I just can't. I had the coconut French toast... It was delicious! But it was the only positive takeaway. Husband had the homemade corned beef hash with eggs and the hash would have been good (meat looked good, nice big chunks), but it was completely overpowered by a spice I can't put my finger on... Its probably very obvious, but I have a terrible time IDing spices. My daughter had French toast and she liked it. And my husband and I split the Toe Tater Fritters and while they sounded good and looked great, they didn't taste good at all. The outside was nice and crunchy, but the inside was almost milky raw and the flavors were all off. I realize in the POST-COVID restaurant world, things are rough going and I try to take that into consideration, but this was just too much. What a friendly group of people! They are apparently under new management, and I'm happy to say the food was quite good. My wife said the turkey vegetable soup was outstanding, which was a nice surprise. It feels like a good soup is a lost art these days, given how few places actually have them (outside the clam chowder and French onion - which are both great, but just scratch the surface of what's possible). Stephens heart and talent are in every bite. He took the time to greet us from the Kitchen and chat about are massachusetts connections and then went on by himself in the kitchen on a cold winters night to cook a scrumptious and healthy meal. We had the baked haddock and the sauce was perfect light and refreshing, haddock was piping hot and cooked to perfection, so were the more than generous portions of vegetables that seem just freshly done and locally fresh. This dinner was served by a friendly waitress with great directions to get us home again. We have been going to Square Toes for years. As local residents, my husband usually had the liver & onions, I would usually have the special for the day or a fantastic plain old hamburger. Soups were also great and fresh veggies sides were always tweaked with just the right spice or herb. Servings were more than adequate, Then came new owners, they have made all kinds of changes - other than new windows - none of them good! Our usual meals were 1/2 the size of normal - very bland and the once awesome hamburger was a McDonald size and tasting burger on a over sized roll that was NOTHING like the prior owners. When we entered the restaurant - the new owners just kind of looked at us rather than welcome us - other than to say have a seat. The waitress, a family member was somewhat interactive but just not into being there (my opinion). I realize the owners/wait staff are not there to entertain us but friendliness certainly makes you feel welcome. Although that still wouldn't be enough for us to go back. The food was plain lousy. My family and I have been to this place twice in the last few years. The first time we had the worst service I've ever encountered in all my years dining out. The waitress seemed annoyed that we were a large group, even though there was plenty of space to accommodate us. She continued to be very rude to us for the remainder of our meal. The food took a long time to be served and was only okay. The second time we went, which was today, we walked in as a group of 5 and was met with the same kind of hostility. The two waitresses gave us a hard time because they didn't want to push two tables together, even though there was plenty of space, and told us the wait would be 40 mins for there to be enough space. If they had been polite it wouldn't have been so bad, but they were very rude about it and we immediately took our business elsewhere. If you have a group, I would avoid this place at all costs as they are not accommodating to anyone not in a group of 2 or 4, unless you want to endure incredibly rude, and embarrassingly awful service, seemingly out of spite. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant. I ordered baked haddock, it was literally floating in oil (I don't even think it was butter). It was tough as nails although I will say it was piping hot when served. Veggies served with it were barely warm, bordered on cool. To top it off, the entree was $16.95 - more in line with the port prices. I would have been fine with the price if the food was good, but it was not, I left more than half of it on the plate, couldn't eat it. The atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and it was easy to talk to other customers who recommend dishes to try. I had the best fish and chip here and with a chef salad my wife and I could not finish the meal. Highly recommended. read more
