Had to be good with a name like that and it was. Service could not have been friendlier and the food was delish! Felt like a very clean old school breakfast joint. Fresh cinnamon roll couldn't have had any more cinnamon and was tender and warm. I had the fried pork chops and eggs. While very thin the chops were crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside. Eggs done right and cottage potatoes great. read more

Was looking for a local breakfast since the hotels can't provide a hot breakfast due to covid rules. Did some google, yelp, and TripAdvisor searching and decided this was a good shot for local breakfast. Wow was I right. My 11 yr old son got the biscuits and gravy and loved it. My wife and daughters loved the eggs Benedict and I had the hang over cure. And all was delicious. Will definitely eat here again next time we are in Bluffton Hilton head area. First off, food was pretty good and that's why I am giving it 3 stars. Service on the other hand, HORRIFIC! I have never been treated so badly. We had a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 kids. Our kids are respectful, use manors and sit down. My parents came in town from mississippi and I've always wanted to try this spot, so we did. If I had a dollar for every time our server rolled her eyes or gave us a dirty look I'd be able to buy the restaurant. We ordered apps and I got a salad and cup of chili (insert eye roll). My dad got the omelet and cup of chili (insert eye roll and dirty look at my step mom). Then she proceeded to walk away and LOUDLY say OH MY GOD. Being a bartender, I'm wondering what in the world we did to piss this lady off. She was upset that we ordered a lot of food. Again, first time here, so we wanted to try things. I didn't know what I ordered was a lot. When my step mom asked for drinks she was rude and said no. I asked for a water w a lemon (as I do everywhere) water came w no lemon so I asked respectfully if I could get a lemon and she rolled her eyes and walked away. Then gave us a ton of lemons (guessing that was an immature way to show she was irritated). Other servers would come and refill our drinks and were super nice. You could tell that they knew she was being ridiculous. The only thing about the food I personally didn't care for was the dressing on my Greek salad. Just tasted like oil. I was going to ask for more but scared for another rude look. read more

We have enjoyed breakfast there twice. I don't remember the last time I actually got eggs the way I ordered them. Well @ S&G they are 2 for 2, exactly the way I ordered them. Today I went to squat and gobble and I have to say one thing AMAZING I ordered from the avocado bacon Benedict and it was amazing. The taste was rich and unique. We have been going to Hilton Head Island for years and somehow until this trip we had missed this hidden gem. I read about it in one of those touristy magazines and wanted to go check them out. I love finding new places to try. It is a cute place when you pull in, on our day it looked crowded outside but it wasnt inside. We were waited on promptly and given menus. I saw they had shrimp n grits and even though I have a go to place that has been my number 1 for almost 10 years, I wanted to try theirs. All I can say is, oh my sweet lord and paula deen!!! They served me this magnificent plate of shrimp n grits in an amazing bacon gravy. Thats right folks, I said bacon gravy! In case you think you read that wrong let me say it again, BACON GRAVY!!! It was amazing and I would have given it 5 stars but the grits left a lot to be desired. Usually the grits are really good and high end om this dish and I dont know what these were but they were unsalted and looked and tasted like instant grits. That said, I am almost positive this is my new fave shrimp n grits place. I cant wait to get back down there and have another plate full. Let me reiterate...BACON GRAVY PEOPLE!!! A fun little place, where everyone is family. This is the oldest restaurant in Bluffton and is well worth a visit. Or ten. We moved here three years ago and I made it my mission to try every diner in the area. Squat n' Gobble is my favorite and I try to stop in at least once a week. They know everybody by name and you couldn't ask for a more friendly small town diner. Super busy in the summer (but worth the wait), and a great place to have a few cups of Joe and read the paper (or a book...) in the off season. read more

We had heard good things about this place so I was excited to give it a try. We went for breakfast yesterday at around 10 or so. The place was pretty packed (it's a small place) but we were able to get a table with just a few minutes wait. We placed our orders after a small wait. But unfortunately the food took forever to come out. Not sure if it's always this slow or if they were just short-staffed for some reason. I ordered the Greek omelet with home fries. My omelet was good & had plenty of feta cheese & tomatoes. The home fries were done just the way I like them.. Soft on the inside with a nice crispy side. The toast was cold & not quite toasted enough. Hubby's breakfast special consisted of 2 eggs, toast, home fries or grits and bacon. He also ordered a short stack of pancakes. I took a few bites of his pancakes & they were very good. Hubs ordered a glass of milk and it tasted like it was starting to sour, so he asked for another. The second one was fine. The pancakes were huge... nice & fluffy. Prices were very reasonable and the food was pretty good, but nothing earth shattering. But on the day of our visit, the service was very slow & just and not outstanding. read more

Beware of hidden prices! My two egg, meat breakfast went from $6.74 to $13.47!!! For two eggs, a thin slice of ham (like the kind you would put on a sandwich), potatoes and 1 biscuit and gravy! No joke. On the menu, it says Two Egg Meat breakfast. I asked for ham and she didn't tell me that for some reason ham was 1.99 more. When I asked if I could get a biscuit and gravy instead of toast, she said sure. I can substitute the biscuit for toast and charge you for a side of gravy. When I got the bill, she charged us 0.75 for the biscuit (which was hard) and 3.99 for a tiny cup of gravy! If I had known it was going to be $4.75 more, I would have said no thanks. The service was ok. The taste was average. Comparable to Denny's I would say. Nothing special. We won't be returning. read more

The food was ok but nothing spectacular. If you're looking for a local place where the regulars come then this is your place. I had the fried shrimp basket with slaw & onion rings. The shrimp had a very good flavored seasoning but were a tad bit overcooked but still good. The onion rings seem homemade and were good as well. My husband's club sandwich was huge with very generous portions of all the layers. I was very impressed with their level of safety concerns & their unique COVID masks the staff wore. We've always loved the amazing food and terrific service at Squat N Gobble. We were there last week, and my daughter lost a stone from her ring. It wasn't an expensive stone, but it was important to her, and it blended right in with the floor. We left our name and number at the restaurant, and a day later, Star called me and told me that they'd found the stone, and were holding it for us. With a name like Squat and Gobble, I didn't know what to expect when a friend recommended we try this place. Oh, where to begin? This definitely is a kitschy place with a little bit of everything for everyone. This restaurant is not far from Hilton Head and is an ideal lunch spot if you're playing golf or shopping off island. After shopping nearby, we had a late lunch there around 3:00 and lucky for me, they had a bunch of early bird specials that were quite enticing. :) I had the gyro plate with spanikopita, olives and fried pita chips. They also have salads, sandwiches, pizzas and lots more to choose from. 3.5 stars Squat and Gobble is a small town diner located near old town Bluffton. A co-worker and I went here for lunch on the recommendation from another co-worker. I generally enjoy diners and almost always get an omelet when eating at such an establishment. The story was no different on this day. I got the spinach, tomato and feta omelet and got a piece of grilled chicken on the side as well. Came with home fries. The omelet was pretty tasty but didn't have enough filling. The feta cheese was almost nonexistent. The home fries were okay as well. The chicken had a weird texture. It was kind of chewy and "crunchy" (not sure how else to describe it, but it was off) and way over seasoned. I was able to get full and the prices were okay, a little steep. Not sure what all the fuss is about this place. Average food. read more

I attended a funeral dinner catered by squat n gobble last saturday. The food was excellent and the service had the feel of a white linen restaurant even thought all was served on plasticware. The host had to arrange for more tables and seating as attendance was greater than expected, yet SNG did not miss a step they had prepared plenty of food and service did not lack. on a rainy Sunday we were having trouble finding a place for breakfast with covered outside seating. Drove past S & G and made a quick stop. Very pleasantly surprised, really good food and service. Our order came out quickly and was very good. I had pork chops and eggs. Chops were nice and hot and moist. (I hate dried out pork chops). My wife's had a chef salad, everything in the salad was fresh and crisp. Plenty of dressing on the side as she prefers. We're definitely going back, next time for some Greek food at lunch read more

Small and local. Inside is a bit outdated kinda smells old. I've been to this place more than a few times and I always find something wrong with my orders. Don't order their biscuit and gravy because it taste like fake paste and even the color isn't right. Not homemade and stale. Portions are small. They're open until 3pm since it's only a breakfast and lunch place. It's definitely a very small place so sometimes it's a long wait even for a few people. Servers aren't very friendly and get annoyed easily if asked a question about any items on the menu. Not sure what the hype is about but it's not the best. The stooges cafe is way better than this place and has more seating, better bigger portions, and everything is homemade. Will not be returning after the biscuit and gravy incident. Best diner name ever. Went while visiting my mom and grandparents. At 1am. After a good bar crawl. With 10 people. (They are open 24 hours). Food was delicious "diner breakfast all day" food. One of us was really jonesing for Fried Chicken & Waffles....no go on the waffles, but they subbed in french toast instead. Superior alternative. Our waitress was very friendly, but not in a fake-friendly waitress way. (She got a little annoyed when one of us kept playing with the singing deer head on the wall.) At least it was amusing. The menu has a huge selection, service is good and adequately fast (you never feel like they're rushing you), and per their t-shirts, they don't care if you don't opt for pants that day. :-) read more

Don't go there! My wife and I had breakfast there last Saturday morning. Our table was visited by a cockroach crawling all over the table. We trapped it under a napkin and showed the waitress. The staff's response was literally, "You're in the South. You are gonna have cockroaches. What do you expect." We were shocked at their unconcerned response. read more
