My dad purchased a used 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera in 1997 and has exclusively used Squire's for all maintenance and repair. I recently took ownership of the Porsche as my dad's age and agility made it difficult for him to get into and out of the car. My plan was to fly to Seattle and drive the car back to Denver. I contacted James and he agreed to meet with me before I began my drive. I didn't have any specific work that needed to be done, I just wanted an opportunity to discuss the car with him and learn a bit about the vehicle; I've had plenty of old cars through the years and I figured it would be good to learn the quirks of one before driving it halfway across the country. James made time to meet me on a Friday, and we sat in the office and discussed maintenance records and air/oil cooled 911s in general. I've had several interactions with Squires and all have been very positive. I highly recommend you taking any Porsche here instead of Porsche Bellevue unless money is no object to you. Most recently I had James perform a pre-purchase inspection on an older vehicle I was interested in purchasing. He was very accommodating when it came to scheduling, was happy to agree to thresholds for what was acceptable to me in terms of repairs on the vehicle, and saved me about $250 by stopping the PPI when that threshold was exceeded. Absolutely amazing customer service and technical acumen on our 56 year old Porsche by owner/technician Jason and his team. Our 1963 B Coupe's transmission had developed noisy transaxle bearings on a trip down Hwy 1 to the North Meets South 356 Event in central California. Had it trailered back to Seattle and Squire's Autowerke was kind enough to take it in on short notice. Jason replaced the bearings and put in new synchros, which would normally have done the trick. But on closer examination, and because of his knowledge of these classic Porsches, he noticed two shims that had been put in backwards years before we owned the car. And he discovered a pitted and scored ring gear and 4th gear, that had been contributing to the transaxle noise we'd endured for 12 years. He had the parts, he did a superb job and the difference in sound level in our little '63 now is remarkable. Now we can confidently head off on a 3500 mile 356 drive in a month to Flagstaff, and have easier conversations along the way. Squire's is absolutely the best you could possibly ask for! They have knowledgeable, experienced technicians who know what they are doing and make sure they take excellent care of your Porsche! They let you know what the issues are, what it takes to fix and how much it will cost. They know how to explain any issue and make sure you are satisfied with the job they do. Couldn't ask for more! There are a bunch of shops in the area that are willing to work on Porsche's , but Jason and Erik at Squires seem to be the only ones that are consistently able to fix the problem cars that the other shops struggle with. They are my first choice for the the difficult diagnosis and repair but also my first choice for the simple oil change and free check over. A CLASS ACT. I arranged for a PPI to be done on a 993 C4S. Up to this point I was about to purchase this $80k car but decided to have a PPI done for peace of mind. I was referred to Squires by the seller and arranged for the PPI to be done. When I called I was told that it would be 4 days out before they can get to my car due to their busy pending orders. I finally got to the inspection day and spoke to Jason and explained that I needed a thorough PPI on the car. Jason called me about 2 hours into the inspection to advise me that there was an area concern which he was able to see and was a result of some body work done on the car. He said the repair was a top notch job and would not be easily noticed with a casual inspection. This leads me to believe the seller/dealer may not even know about this. Jason asked me at this point if I wanted him to continue with the inspection or stop. Being that I was looking for a pristine car this was a deal breaker. I asked Jason to charge me for the 2 hours he had spent on the PPI. He told me not to worry about it and that he would not charge me. Imagine a shop that is so busy they are backed up for several days...and when they spent 2 hours of their busy schedule to PPI a car and then not charge you for it. Further to this, Jason spent a good 30 minutes talking to me about the car and what he saw. Prior to the PPI I checked out Squire's history and background. I had a sense that Squires was a top notch shop with a passion in what they do. This experience solidified that believe. I only wished there was a shop like in in my area. I feel compelled to write this review even tho it's been several years (a situation reminded me of this place). The owner is a guy named Squire Tomasie - and his "Free labor" thing is his gimmick to get you. My experience goes above and beyond any definition of "misunderstanding" In summary: only use if you like gimmicks and games. I once got my 1981 911SC towed there when the ignition control module failed and the car stalled. It was replaced with an aftermarket Permatune which I was charged $500 for it (Porsche owners, it's a CIS CAR- look up the part online) +$150 to install it (single plug, and several screws- draw your own conclusions) I picked the car up and it was bucking and missing badly- it ran perfectly prior to the CDI failure, so I leave it there for another day- only to have him call back and tell me he "spent an hour" diagnosing it (but didn't want to charge me labor time - YET- and he kept saying "free hour, free hour, so far an hour into it and I'm not charging you, etc etc etc") and adjusting the fuel mixture but it was still off. My BS meter went crazy, and I said I'm not going to go hog wild on diagnosis (leave a blank check) since it was fine when he drove in. I told him I didn't have the $$$ to just go all out so I had to be careful. I was not rude, I paid my tab, and it was a legitimate concern I had. I am in sales, and have been for over 20 years, owned my own business I deal with people all day along these lines, as a customer it was a typical concern- one that should just be realistically addressed. I was already $600 into his place for the previous repairs and regardless- it was fine before he touched it. Squire instantly flipped out started calling me names, etc. etc a "mooch" a "bum" because I didn't want to just go crazy on the tab. Told me to get my car out of his parking lot or else he'd get it towed. I was literally in shock, and probably was a good thing otherwise I would've decked him. One hell of a way to treat someone - a new 1st time customer who showed up on the back of a tow truck, paid the 1st tab, no questions asked (despite the crazy tab I paid it not a peep- I found him and I was in a jam, so that was that- no issues.) I got the car, made it home and I found he blew a FUSE to the cars ECU (frequency valve) that is also tied to a light (those familiar with Porsche CIS cars know what I'm talking about) and it's a simple replacement. So simple it should've been the 1st thing he checked. Plug a new fuse in, car fires up and idles, like it should. PS- the Permatune he sold me failed within 3000 miles, but I just ate it because frankly, he's nasty and arrogant to deal with. USE SQUIRES AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. A honest mechanic. Squire helped save me from a poor purchase. Better yet, he saved me from buying a poor purchase and paying for excessive inspections. I was looking at a Porsche in Bellevue and requested a PPI. Based on the recommendations of rennlist I choose Squire. He had a ROBUST PPI checklist that included compression tests. After having the car dropped off, he notified me after the first few items on the checklist to say that it wasn't worth continuing the inspection. I am a longtime Porsche fanatic who has been using Squire to work on my Porsche's for almost 20 years. I started out with a 79 911SC, then moved on to a 86 911 M491 with a 3.6 liter conversion that Squire built ( a hell of a machine) and now he works on my 71 911E with a 2.7 RS Spec motor he built, my 84 Carrera and my 1995 993. He has always been honest, more than fair and very knowledgeable. He has been working on Porsche almost as long as I have been alive, I think he started in the early 1970's. One thing I really appreciate is that he has a base of knowledge that is built over 40 years of working on these things, that is invaluable. I rarely pay for diagnostic time since he usually can tell me what is wrong with my car before it even arrives. My 71 he built in 1989 for another customer that I purchased it from and it has seen lots of miles and track time, and yet leakdown is perfect and it drives likes new, that is a testament. As you can probably tell I am mostly an air-cooled Porsche guy, so I don't have a lot of first hand knowledge as to his ability there except to say he has been maintaining my Dad's Boxster for the past 5 years and my Dad has been thrilled as well. A few caveats: If you are looking for a fancy new shop, an expresso machine in the office and the typical Bellevue experience, this is not your place. Squire still handwrites his service receipts, answers his own phone and is even the guy who washes your car when he is done with it. He can sometimes be slow to pick up the phone because he has his hands full so be patient there. He will give you the shirt off his back but he will also be brutally honest so if you need pampering or have thin skin he is probably not your guy. Overall if you want a traditional Porsche guru and don't need to perks (and the prices to go with them) and want a guys guys mechanic, Squires your man. read more

Just another happy customer, echoing all the positive reviews posted before mine. Jason lives and breathes Porsches, and I'm glad I was introduced to him by a fellow repeat client. I've taken my 996 C2 to Jason's on a number of occasions, and on every occasion he was very generous with his time - whether it was scanning codes, doing a track-day inspection or an in-person or over-the-email consultation of various noises (which was spot on!) - declining to charge me for what was a considerable about of time spent diagnosing. During my most recent visit, he proved yet again his mastery at diagnosing issues that eluded others: throughout my car's service history, numerous shops have stated that the clutch pedal was heavy, and that the clutch must be replaced. 10k miles ago, the clutch was indeed replaced, and yet the high biting point and the overall heavy pedal feel persisted. Jason was the first to realize a broken return spring could be a possible cause, and a quick, parking-lot inspection confirmed his diagnostic. He had me in and out the next day, fixed the issue in less time than standard dealership labor quote, and all for a very reasonable price. I even got a courtesy ride to the office, and I don't think that's standard fare for non-dealer shops. I fully trust Jason's work, skills and competence, and I will be happy to return to him in the future with any needs my car might have. I recently bought a 2002 Porsche Boxster that needed a few repairs and decided to go to Squire's based on a friend's advice and the reviews below. I met with Jason (the new owner) and we went together on the list of things to be done based on the PPI report from the Porsche dealership (Roger Jobs in Bellingham). We agreed on what what was most urgent and what could be done later, we agreed on a price, and then he and his team went to work. I got my car back the next day nice and clean (always a plus) and in perfect working order. I have not tried the other Porsche mechanics in the area but I am perfectly happy with Squire's so far and will be bringing my Porsche to Jason and his team for future service and repairs. read more

I just had a similar experience like Randy P. did with the owner who was more than obtuse and refused to talk to me (a first time customer) when I simply asked about a rebuilt water pump rather than the much more expensive factory Porsche part. He told me my business isn't welcome there and he walked way. Clearly the owner is mentally instable from what I can gather. I had an awesome experience having Jason do work on my P911S4. I first called the shop to get a feel for the kind of service I might receive. Jay was always patient and knowledgeable about what I was trying to do. Not only did Jay do a IMS change out for me but he went through and did a careful examination on other needs I might have in the future. some things were not overly expensive and he took the initiative to replace it. I really appreciated that. I also had him do a test of the electrical system and sure enough there was a constant drain on the battery which turned out to be a alternator with a bad diode in it. He had a friend who rebuilds alternators supply me with one for half the costs of an OEM unit. As we were talking one day he said he noticed some small dings in a few places. The kind you don't see head on but when looking down the side of the car there they are. His buddy who is one of the top ding and scratch specialist was called and actually came to the shop to examine my car and gave me such a good price for repairing the dings I had that done at Squire's too. Jay even offered to help out if his friend needed any assistance. I feel like Squire's is my home for my P911. Jay has a great staff and it's just what I remember a garage should be like. I have been to the fancy euro style salon feel type repair centers and they are OK and good people but, Jays shop looks like and smells like your car was meant to be there. If you want a fair price, and out of the box thinking that's innovative and cost effective call Jason at Squires, you'll be surprised at the personal touch you get with excellent communication over the phone and in person. About 6 months ago my GT3 had a coolant blow on the freeway and I had my car towed to Squire's since I've had service done there before. I met with Jason the next morning and he said he will need a day or two for a complete assessment. I did some research in the meantime and realized that cooling system problems were common for 997's. Some forums have dedicated threads about it. Apparently the cooling system has some plastic parts that are prone to repeated failure and there is a stainless steel replacement part set from SharkWerks that's supposed to be a permanent fix. It also turns out that the engine needs to come out one way or another, so it's going to be expensive and time-consuming. For the same reasons, I wanted to minimize the chance for me to have the engine hauled out again, so I asked Jason about the major problems that would potentially plague me in the next 5-10 years. He agreed that the SharkWerks solution would be a good start, and he recommended that he check and replace all the seals, gaskets and hoses, and replace everything that appears aged or worn. In addition, he suggested that I replace the water pump as well. I also asked him to replace the clutch since it's nearing end of life. Jason was very up front about never having installed the SharkWerks before so he quoted me a fixed price for that portion of the job, which was comparable to the costs shared by others in the forums. He said that if he ended up spending extra time on it, he would just eat those costs as a learning experience, which I thought was fair. A few days later, with the engine and transmission out, he called me and invited me to the shop so that he can show me the engine and walk me through where the failure happened, and the various things that he will fix/replace for me. After all was said and done, Jason kept all the old parts in a big bag (including the old RS clutch plate) and walked through each item telling me why they were replaced. It was an expensive job but the engine still runs and sounds great after 6 months. The new clutch changed the engagement point and was a bit lighter than the original (still significantly heavier than regular 911 models), but it made city traffic so much more bearable. I am a happy customer and would recommend Jason and Squire's to anyone who is serious about taking care of their car. read more
