These people give yelp checkin deals to get a free appetizer. Lot of people do that and I am totally okay with it. But they insist on writing the review in front of them add details etc which is really not right. I did not lik a thing there , the stars are only for the guy who served us food.. Decided to give this restaurant one more try - and it was a BIG MISTAKE. None of the dishes tasted right including the Sambhar and the Chutney which are table stakes for any South indian restaurant. The Medhu Wadas were also half cooked when they arrived on the table. This place is highly avoidable. This place is most apt if your health condition dictates that you eat less or no salt and completely non spicy and bland food. I am such a guy so i love it. Chutneys are non spicy and idlys are saltless. I had a perfect meal Also I am a fan of sweets and what they lack in salt and spices they more than make up for it in the dessert. Gajar halwa had a ton of sugar satisfying my sweet tooth and keep me satisfied for the rest of the week. I would definitely go back again and i recommend it to all my friends. My only complaint is that the sambar was cold and so was the vada I had. But like I said they made up for all that in the gajar halwa. read more

Great food!We had the podi rava dosa, poori+potato curry, and medu vada. Everything tasted near perfect, and was great for a south-indian-food-starved person like me. Quick and courteous service, the restaurant is small but clean. Only reason I took off one star was because of the filter coffee that I ordered. Worst customer service from the time you walk in to ordering food to waiting for the server to come take order and then for him to pick up the check. They don't even bother asking if anything else is needed. I would not recommend this place as only one server is running the place from taking orders to everything else. read more

We recently hired these guys to cater for 100 people. So this review is specifically for catering only. The Good: 1] They came 15 mins earlier than we had told them. 2] Dessert (Gulab jamun) and bisibelebath was very good. Everyone enjoyed the live dosas chutney and sambar. 3] Dosa guys were courteous. Even after they did dosas for two hours, on our request they stayed back 15 mins more. 4] They had dosa options for kids too. Kids enjoyed them. The bad: 1] They promised us that they will have food warmers for all the curries, rice and dessert. They brought only one for sambar. It was a huge let down. We had specifically told them, since the food was out in the open for three hours, we wanted warmers for rice, jamun and all the curries. We were really disappointed by this. 2] The mini idlies were hard, and definitely not the same as ones you have at any restaurant. 3] When they arrived they said they had only one table. We had clearly told them to bring the tables to keep the catered food and they had agreed. I dont know what it was about, later they did bring out two tables. I never understood why they did so, but it was a panicking moment. 4] The food that they give for sampling at the restaurant is way way different than what they cater. So be careful. Especially the bhendi sabzi. 5] For the final bill they had agreed to a discounted price. On the day of the event i had to call them 5-6 times to get them to include the discount and deposit and send us the clear final bill. I did not understand why so much back and forth on such a simple issue. And it gets stressful when we are hosting 100 people. read more

Run of the mill hole in the wall. The sambhar and chutnies were horrid. I have a nasty feeling that they were at least a day old. We were there on a Friday night at 7pm and ordered Combo#2 the waiter came back in 2 minutes and said they ran out of Upma and said he would substitute it with Tamarind rice (yikes!) This implied that they serve the morning Upma and when it runs out they come and proclaim that they have run out (@7pm on a Friday night!!) There are plenty of places you could go to within a 3 mile radius. The whole atmosphere was chaotic. We gobbled up the food and ran the hell out of there. We could barely sit in there. I catered food for a party at home from Ananda Bhavan. I dealt with Ravi and he was extremely helpful. We did dosa and chaat party and it was a big hit among guests. Their samosa chaat and dosas were delicious. More than 15 variety of dosa. The servers also did a good job of taking care of things. I would highly recommend ananda bhavan for Indian catering. Pathetic food. Crappy service. Unclean tables. Asked for Sambar Idli, got daal idli instead. The sambhar was so thick, that we didn't need spoon. Ordered mysore masala dosa , got masala dosa instead. Andhra masala vada was undercooked. Wont ever recommend to anyone !!! read more
