Truly disappointed. With guests I visited and so bad experience. While taking orders the waitress not mentioned unavailable but long 20 minutes later we are told not available... time was just 8pm but many of the dishes not available. The South Indian Thali they served was with no sambar, no yogurt.. Order was taken for Combo 2 and served Combo 3 not even informing us the change. . while we took up with hotel's floor supervisor his reply so ridiculous (unable to reproduce here).. Consistently good dosas. There service is slow and if you're in a hurry for lunch, go elsewhere. It can get very crowded. The food is very good, though, and I will drive out of my way when I'm craving those dosas. read more

Just tolerable South Indian place. Either they seat too many people or the acoustics of the place are (is?) really bad- the noise level is irritatingly high! If they add some plants/ cloth decorations to soak the noise, it might help. The portions of sambhar and chutney are too small to last any dosa or idly and one is forced to keep a lookout for running waiters to pass by so one can order more. They provide very little chutney and when you ask for extra.. they are gonna give you a rude glare, I asked to substitute one sweet with an Idly and then some person from kitchen started speaking loud and rude to the waiter who took the order saying the order was not supposed to be taken like that.. Even when I offered to pay extra... the waiter was empathetic but the other dude in kitchen who feels like he owns the place made me feel utter disgusting. read more

A good south Indian restaurant with eclectic dosa collection. The food and ambience is pretty good. They generally seem to have some offer, so I would advice to visit their website. My only gripe would be that the they charged a 15% tip by default for a party of 7. read more

I really like the coconut dosa and the Indo-Chinese fried rice. However, now they have three kinds of fried rice and I don't know which is the one I liked before. The Ananda Bhavan fried rice was recommended by the waiter, and I really don't care for it. Contains some spice I don't like. Service here is minimal, you are lucky they take your order! We ordered the dosa, the fried rice and paneer 65. The rice and paneer came out first and they brought my friend a plate but not me. There was a dead bug floating in the vinegar that was part of the spice carousel. Yuck! Update: service has been much better on my last few visits. Waitress was very helpful today and all our food was tasty and came out promptly. read more

Good veggie food at a reasonable price for lunch. The portions were a little small and some language barriers But kind of fun to over come. I asked for D-E-S-S-E-R-T but it did not compute. Eventually I got a nice mango type of shake. I will come back. The front steps were starting to fall apart. The tile coming off the stepping edge, maybe a safety hazard if not fixed soon. Came here on a Saturday evening .... and were greeted by NO ONE. 5 minutes of waiting and staring around for restaurant staff , we were finally told " Pick any table you like". Well, one would guess that you would be well staffed on a Saturday night ! That's ok though... moving on. I sat down in a corner table and felt this sudden draft of chilled air on my ankles which made me bend down and ....Sticky floors, food and used paper napkins under the table and a weird odor greeted me. Not my cup of tea - I decided to leave without eating. On my way out, I was greeted by again NO ONE. We went at lunch and the parking lot was packed, the restaurant very busy, and still we were sat quickly and served quickly. CRAP!! Very bad.. The quality and quantity is both bad.. I have tried both in Sunnyvale and Fremont... Both are equally bad.. They use unhealthy used oil, the food tastes stale.. We had taken Bhel puri and masala dosa... Bhel puri was not upto the mark and quantity was too less... Masala Dosa - chutney/sambar was the worst to say the least.. I thought ooo, new place, let's give it a try. The ambience was crap, but most times the ambience is inversely proportional to the quality of food. I'm even willing to tolerate lack-lustre service if the food is good (See Idli-Kadai on Wolfe). So I ask for the mini-thali for lunch on a Wednesday around 1130am, no big crowds. They took 15 minutes to even notice I was there, in an empty restaurant. There must have 5-6 people in there who obviously worked there, one of them seated and then everyone wandered off. I finally got my meal and it was awful, there were three different kinds of rice, a sambar-rice, dry plain rice, curd-rice and something that I identified to be the dessert. No Poriyal!! All rice!! Excellent breakfast. They open at 830 everyday so perfect time to have an indian breakfast in the weekend. We ordered Idli Vada and Dosa and everything including sambar was super fresh, piping hot and awesome in taste. This place is a chain from Singapore and not the chain of Adyar Ananda Bhavan. I tried their kalyana sappadu on Tamil New Year day, it was awesome! The menu included usili, pittalai, milagu kozhambu, keerai vadai, pineapple kesari and everything was so authentic. If you are craving for authentic Tamil Brahmin food, I highly recommend this place. I think lunch would be better than dinner for freshness. read more

We were loyal customers for a while but the quality has gone down drastically. The food and specially the service is really really bad now. Avoid going on weekends because they cant handle the rush and you will have to wait for long to get your order. The service staff is very inexperienced. We complained about one of our dishes and the server argued with us. read more

idli wada plate - really nice soft idlis.. the wada was crispy too.. the chutneys were delicious.. wada sambhar - the wada in sambhar wada was too soft.. so if u prefer the crunchier version go for the idli wada plate.. the dosa was okayish..again the chutneys were nice!! the aunty behind the corner was sweet greetin wid smiles.. even the servers were soft spoken..somethin unfortunately other restaurants in the same genre lack out here.. so that was a welcome site.. definitely a place to return.. read more

Terrible service! The lady at the front is hostile to customers. We live in the neighborhood and used to go there often. The quality of service steadily went down in past few weeks. Today we (a party of 5 adults and 2 small kids) went there for lunch. They said only 'kalyana sapattu' is available (a veg thali is same with no extra rice. Still they said it is not available!!) The so called meal is ~$14. Each of us found 1 or 2 curries missing. Interestingly random curries were missing for each person (not the same). My wife asked for 1 extra rice and it never came. The lady (@ front desk) was waiting tables as well. We saw a poor white couple waiting for more than 5 minutes to be seated in a half empty restaurant since waiters were running around doing random things. And yeah, they charge 15% gratuity. :-)) Note to owner - If you want to survive, please let go the lady at front and put someone whose only job is take care of customer billing and welcoming them (not juggling a bunch of things!). read more

We went there at 8 PM and there were not even too many ppl. The restaurant was full but that's what we see in every other Indian restaurant. Nothing unmanageable. It took one hour for my first order of a very simple chat to come. My second order didn't come fully even after another hour. So, after two hours of wait, we ate whatever they were able to serve and left. They really need to work on the sequence they server people. read more

Really nice South Indian food but pathetic service. Service staff is so hopeless that I had to keep reminding that they forgot spoons or order is not complete or they have missed chutney and so on.
