This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere! I have dined at both the main restaurant and the meeting place. My advice is to order as many things as possible, even if it's something that you think you don't like because the chef is magic and I honestly have never had a bad dish rather every dish is amazing (on one trip we ate at St. John 3 nights in a row because it is that good!). This place is great, as I expected from the tremendous reviews. The menu changes daily and of course the one item I was hankering for came off. But not to worry, plenty of creative and delicious items. We started with the most marvelous Brie plate. Just a smudge of cheese but it was rich and creamy with a variety of jams, sliced apples, truffle honey, marcona almonds and olives. Holy yum. The hubs had the venison placed atop an Israeli couscous risotto. Mind blowing. I ordered two apps as my main - beets and scallops. The beets were pure perfection, perfectly roasted with a raspberry mousse and a sheeps milk that resembled a smooth goat cheese. The scallops sat on a parsnip purée with lemon segments and capers. Really tasty. So why 4 stars rather than 5? My scallops were cold - forgivable. What was surprising is rather than firing a new plate, they simply reheated mine. At a restaurant of this caliber, I found this quite surprising. Nonetheless a delicious meal and a great night out away from the little. read more

Almost worthy of a 4.5 stars. Our service was good, not great, but it's the lack of the "je ne sais quoi" is what keeps it at 4 stars for me. The individual pieces of the experience were great, but no synergy. Food: Potato chowder w/lobster - very nice, and achieved a light flavor even considering the ingredients which was impressive. Also had the Peeky toe crab and gnocci - wow, amazing - very rich and I Found myself going back to the chowder b/c it was almost overwhelming - but really, really great. Osso bucco - Bravo, never thought buffalo would taste that could (& after living in Wyoming for 8 years, I've had my share). Thy did a great job with it and I liked having the polenta served on the side... a thoughtful touch. Sorbet - killer, great finisher for a great meal. read more

We just ate at St. John's Meeting Place and it was fantastic all the way around! Old renovated wharehouse building with modern clean decor. Service and food were awesome! We started off with a glass of wine and the oyster appetizer. Great! I had the Niman Ranch Pork Porterhouse and my girl had the St. John's "BLT." Both were great - porterhouse was one of the best I've ever had. Our waiter was top notch. The prices were more than reasonable. If you are in Chattanooga, this is the restaurant you need to go to. read more

It's always exciting to eat at a restaurant where a multiple year James Beard nominee is at the helm. St John's Meeting Place, next door to St John's Restaurant, did not disappoint. With a modern decor and ample use of black, gray and white, St John's Meeting Place has a cool but comfortable feel to it. The menu is divided into small plates and large plates, so you can form your own tasting menu, share plates or have a traditional appetizer/entree dinner. We grazed through a number of small plates: We tried the Hawaiian Hebi ($14) a/k/a the Shortbill Spearfish, the hebi has soft, delicate, amber colored flesh. The fish was presented ceviche style: cold and thinly sliced on a flat plate, with cucumber and lime-ginger vinegar. This was so good that we ordered it a second time. Gulf Rock Shrimp Rolls ($11) came in soft rolls and were a blend of shrimp, mayonnaise, celery and maybe some old bay seasoning, in the tradition of Maine lobster rolls. Good bread makes a good sandwich and these were delicious. Duck Confit ($13) came on a johnny cake (a cornmeal flatbread), with half a poached pear and drizzled with maple syrup; a simple but inventive combination that worked well. King Salmon Tartare ($12) was fresh and tasty, accompanied by a rich remoulade and slices of toast from local baker Niedlov's Breadworks. Crispy Veal Sweetbread Po' Boy ($11) was another fabulous dish. Crunchy outside, soft & savory inside, these sweetbreads were squeezed into a wonderfully soft roll. We shared a bottle of Guigal Cotes du Rhone ($32; about $12 retail), a dark, soft, early drinking wine. Espressos ($3) finished the meal. The service was friendly, informed and attentive. We did have two servers this night, one being in training although you could tell that he was not new to the restaurant business. St John's Meeting Place is certainly on the "recommend" list. read more

Food was great and service was exceptional. The chef, Rebecca came out and spoke with us and even gave us a tip on where to eat the next night and she was spot on! The roasted filet was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. Misty (our server) was knowledgeable and did a great job. This is an awesome restaurant, our favorite in Chattanooga! The food is fantastic, the chef obviously talented. The wine list is quite extensive, with some interesting options available. The foie gras is delicious! Duck liver isn't easy to cook, but this chef just nails it! If you are a "foodie" and visiting Chattanooga, St. John's is a must visit. (There's also St. John's Meeting Place next door, which is kind of a toned down version of the restaurant, more like bistro dining with a lounge upstaris. As far as fine dining in Chattanooga goes, John's is the place to go. The food is very gourmet and the service is exquisitely choreographed. Pricey but worth it. This is a place you want to dress up for and really plan to take your time. The food was delicious and the setting was beautiful. She took the time to thoroughly answer any questions, but didn't hover or linger too long. Good wine list and varied menu. Wife had steak tartare (loved it) and trout (liked it) for dinner. I had an asparagus soup that was good, not quite great. For my entree I had the venison, which was awesome. Cooked perfectly and very tender. The best part of the dish was the local marscapone grits. Classy, elegant, contemporary. Flawless execution and great service. The food is excellent although a bit too traditional for me: beef tenderloin, salmon, Colorado Lamb, etc. I would like to see them get a bit more avante garde, they clearly have the culinary chops to do what they want. Wine list is superlative and includes some stunning bottles of Latour, Lafitte and Ducru. This place will set you back a few bucks, but for the special occasion or deal closer, can't do better in Chattanooga. read more

Wonderful experience. Impeccable service. Nice ambience. Food was expertly prepared with great flavors and beautiful presentation. Cocktails were excellent and there was a good variety of choices on the wine menu. Dishes ordered included the warm beet salad, the traditional salad (very large portion), the lobster pumpkin soup, the beef tartare, flounder, wagyu steak, pork chop & pork belly, duck breast, banana split, and pineapple bread pudding. We were here 5 years ago and thought it was the best restaurant ever. We scheduled a weekend for our anniversary just to eat at St. John's. We both had two different steaks. My Wagyu Steak was good but my wife's ribeye was just "so so". She said her steak at Big River Grille was better. Almost no veggies with the meat. We decided to pass on desert. Chattanooga is very lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant in its midst. I have eaten here and at the little bit less formal Meeting Place next door around 10 times. I have never had an even remotely bad experience from the food to the service to everything. This includes dinners with my wife and large business dinners. I went here with the family. My dad is an extremely picky eater. He said he had "the best meal of his life" here. I don't know if I'd go that far, but the food here is definitely in my top 5. We had multiple appetizers which were all great. I had the lamb. It was also fantastic. The restaurant isn't as modern as what I'm used to, but that's because I just moved here from LA so I really can't dock any stars. The service was also superb! This is an amazing resturant. The wine list is outstanding. The ambiance is great. We started with figs wrapped in Benton's Bacon.the sweet salty elegance started our taste buds off. Our 1st course was the char sushi. It was tasty with the slaw, flowers mushrooms and vinaigrette accentuating the tender slices of filet. The wagyu zabuton steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Tender, juicy, flavorful were all of our steaks. The desserts were all outstanding and the service was spot on.
