Great Hawaiian style breakfast food. We ordered corned beef hash, Loco moco, strawberry banana French toast and chocolate chip pancakes, which were all well prepared. Delicious hidden gem in Dana Point. This is a great spot to go if you are craving pancakes (duh!) I love the seasonal choices like pumpkin pancakes and guava French toast . They have other options too like yummy breakfast tacos and some Hawaiian breakfast options. It's a very small space, but it's utilized well - and don't be intimidated by the line- it moves fast !! Mahalo for the yummy pancakes Stacks! The only criticism I have is that the orders generally come out staggered (even if they are on the same ticket.) Therefore, my food came out more than 10 minutes before someone else in my small party of 3. At some point, you really have no choice but to start eating because pancakes get cold. In fact, the last time I went, I finished my entire short stack before the other food came out. If I can give this place 0 stars I would. They have the worst customer service and extremely rude to paying customers. I placed an order through door dash and at the time I was supposed to receive the order, instead received an email stating that Stacks cancelled my order. Upon contacting them they claimed that I cancelled my order myself and that they don't cancel on their side, which was ridiculous. I requested that they rush my food for me to pick up since I had already been waiting over an hour. The woman refused stating that she had a line. When I questioned the fact that my order was cancelled 40 minutes after it was placed, indicating that it should have been prepared as I received a message stating that my dasher was on the way. She stated that after it was cancelled they essentially gave away my food and refused to help me still insisting that I or door dash cancelled it. She rudely stated that we've already been on the phone discussing it for 20 minutes which I corrected her to state that it had only 5 minutes and 50 seconds which half of that time was sitting on hold waiting for someone to get on the phone to help me. I contacted Door dash directly after and was informed that they clearly show that the order was cancelled by the restaurant and tried contacting the restaurant numerous times, with the restaurant refusing to answer their call. I understand that mistakes happen and maybe she was not aware that the cancellation was on their side but to be rude and not be willing to at least rush my order as she saw that I clearly had been waiting for a long time displays such a lack of customer service and the restaurant doesn't deserve business they don't appreciate. read more

I read the yelp reviews and decided to give this place a try for breakfast. I walked in and it appeared the staff were all busy cooking or cleaning. There were only a couple people in the restaurant at the time. I checked out the menu for a minute before going up to the counter and standing there while the young lady occupied herself with her back to me. She eventually turned around to see me standing there and she looked annoyed by the presence of a customer. She took my order and payment without any hint of pleasantries. The food was delivered by a young man who more or less dropped it on the table. He walked away without saying a word. At this point I was looking around in disbelief like I was being pranked. At this point, I was looking at stacks as a one star restaurant. The employees seemed completely disinterested in the customers and took no pride in their jobs whatsoever. Then I took a bite of my food. The Island Chilaquiles was absolutely delicious. I'm happy to say the cook did his job flawlessly. It was a very large serving and I enjoyed every bite. I mainly chose Stacks because I'm a fan of restaurants with Hawaiian fare and even more of a fan of spam. Although I did not order spam this go around, I was happy with my breakfast melt with bacon and added some avocado to that. The food came out hot and the ingredients were fresh. The bacon was crispy, not chewy and the avocado was the perfect level of ripe, not too firm or mushy. I also had some of my husband's blueberry pancakes. They were light and fluffy and went really well with their coconut syrup. I hate pretty much everything coconut related, but this syrup is good and should be tried! The size of the pancakes are about 8in in diameter, so it's a decent portion. We came here at 9am on Sunday morning. This location is so cute. It's a perfect atmosphere for a family brunch. We've been to a different stacks location, but we loved this one even more! They have THE best pancakes and waffles here. They're cooked quick and to perfection every time. They have sugar free syrup, too, if you're trying to watch the calories. The menu is insane. They are extremely creative with their breakfast options. Best of all, the price is fair. They don't overcharge their customers. My hubby and I both ordered pancakes with eggs and bacon, OJ's and coffee. The prices were more than reasonable, and the food literally blew me away! Completely exceeded my expectations! Where I live in San Diego, there ARE no good breakfast spots like this. The quality and the amount of food were outstanding, everything was cooked perfectly ... eggs exactly the way we ordered them, 4 large pieces of bacon per order (yes! 4!! thank you!! ) cooked perfectly - not burnt, not blubbery and raw, and NOT cold as I always get in San Diego. I even asked the bus girl if Stacks sold franchises or if there were any plans to open one in San Diego, that's how much I loved it! Note to Management- the staff at this location really works their butt off! I could see at least 3 cooks on the back hustling to get food out (vs the slow, super laid back, no sense of urgency 'attitude' I seem to find in San Diego everywhere), the order taker at the counter was extremely polite and friendly, and the tables were being bussed and cleared immediately upon customers leaving, another novelty vs San Diego where tables sit piled high with dirty dishes, flies are all around, and there is no clean tables for customers unless they buss their own. I am rarely blown away by food or service these days, and Stacks exceeded in every way. If you are considering opening a San Diego location, you will be killing it if it is anything like the food, service and prices offered in Dana Point. Do it!! We went to Stacks this morning and there were no tables available, so we had to order takeout. When we finished ordering, they found us a table and ended up sitting us after all. They were so accommodating and kind. Anthony and (I think her name was Norma) were so attentive. They made sure that we got our food on plates, rather than To Go containers. Because we had ordered to go, we gave them a name, rather than obtaining a table number, and they went out of their way to listen for our order so we didn't have to keep going up to check. Macadamia nut banana pancakes - 4.5 stars If you come here you must order their mac nut ban pancakes. It's sooo good!!! The bananas and macadamia nuts are griddle into the fluffy batter. The bananas provide natural sweetness to the pancakes, but there is a special coconut syrup which can be used to add sweetness. The light syrup and coconut flavor goes well with the tropical ensemble. If you order one of their breakfast sets, pancakes is one of the options, including macadamia nuts, but it will cost 50 cents extra to add the bananas. Well worth the money. Corn beef and hash - 3 stars I typically don't order corn beef hash but I thought I'd give it a try because I was craving protein and potatoes. The serving size was a bit small, however, since I had two sunny side eggs, english muffin, and pancakes to contend with, it worked out. The hash was a bit salty, but I believe hashes are generally that way because of the curing process of the corn beef. There was a thin layer of crisp, otherwise the tone would be mushy. Would I order this again? Probably not. Service - 3.5 stars I can't complain about the service. With fast casual dining, all the boxes were checked. Didn't realize you order from a counter and then sit down and it was really small inside, but that was fine for the 2 of us. Short line and took an available seat. Food came out quickly and it was great. We split a Kahlua pork omelette and guava drink with pancakes. Everything tasted amazing. I can't recommend this place for large groups due to limited seating.
