Stacks is definitely the place to go if you're hungry. The portions are very generous--think big plates and filling breakfasts. My husband would have absolutely loved it here. For me, though, everything felt a bit oversized, and I would've happily traded some of the volume for slightly higher‑quality ingredients. Nothing was bad, just more about quantity than refinement. If you're looking for a hearty, no‑nonsense breakfast that will keep you full for hours, this is your spot. If you lean toward smaller portions and ingredient‑forward dishes, it may not be your first choice. I gave it a 3 vs a 4 because the pancakes were doughy on the inside

I was excited I was right near this place and got to have a good hawaiian style breakfast! The pancakes were amazing and the ube syrup really made it. The loco moco with the longanisa was good but I would want to try another meat next time. Good portions for the price and the staff were super friendly and kept everything clean. I also really like they had a lot of outdoor seating where you can enjoy the views.

I was skeptical about going to a pancake chain, after several unimpressive experiences with IHOP. This is the only Stacks I've been to and it was good. The portions were generous, and it was surprisingly tasty. Everyone finished their meals or got takeout boxes. Service was friendly. Seating is tight on a Saturday, so grab a table quickly if you see one. The parking situation in the complex is even worse, but not an issue if you don't mind parking on the street and walking.

this is one of our favorite brunch places! we got the the loco moco with katsu & kalua pork omelette with a side of macadamia pancakes. the pancakes were so delicious. they had the crispy crust on the outsides and were soft in the middle. the sauce in the loco moco complimented the katsu very well. the food is delicious however it might be a little difficult to find parking in this area.

Casual breakfast place when staying in Dana Point that I've been visiting for over ten years. It closes at 2:00. I recommend the buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, Loco Moco and the breakfast sandwiches. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are several tables inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you see a table, have someone in your party snag it because the seating will fill up quickly on the weekends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I could eat there 2-3 days in a row. Huge breakfast menu, but you got to get at least one pancake!

I ordered the burrito and vanilla latte. The burrito I ordered with the corned beef hash. it was flavorless without the salsa, or the beans. now I know why I only order pancakes when I go here. The line is always quite long too. You should get here early if you don't want to wait so long to order. The latte was decent. My partner ordered a latte as well, I don't remember what it was, because it was on the special latte menu. It looks and sounded like it would have some sweetness, but it was very much lacking sweetness for her, so she added some sweetener. Since you pay and tip before you get your food, I noticed the service was minimal while we were seated and waiting for our food. The price wasn't too bad, especially considering the location. Also, the parking lot is on the smaller side, but somehow, I have always found a parking spot, even though it feels like it's the last parking spot whenever I go. I have good memories here, but I prob won't be going back anytime soon.

The food was good at this place, the waiting line was like 20-30 min. The parking is next to the building. When you park get down by the stairs and it takes you directly to the place. The environment is nice, music not loud, good to talk. The reason I give 4 stars is because of the cashier she wasn't paying attention, I asked for macadamia pancakes but she didn't put it on the order, we have to reorder and waste.more time because of the time. We are shorter on time sometimes because of work, and visiting places like this will be amazing if they can save us time.

We had such a good experience here! got a breakfast burrito with kahlua pork + a hawaiian latte (macademia nut + coconut). I will say the drinks run a little sweet (I asked for less sweet and it was perfect) but the staff are super nice and can make it with fewer pumps!

I ordered the two eggs with protein bacon was my protein. I selected pancakes. I also had coffee. Everything was good. The pancakes didn't come out with the eggs and bacon. I was almost finished when they came out. I had to use a lot of cream because the coffee was strong. It reminded me of Kona coffee. Everyone was really nice and I liked the island music.

Love the food here. The pancakes are some of the fluffiest pancakes I've tried. We got the cookies and cream Pancakes, eggs and steak hibachi, and the loco moco with chicken katsu. Everything was so flavorful. The steak was so delicious and tender. Maybe a little on the saltier side but nothing that was deter me from getting it again. The loco moco sauce was flavorful. You order before you take a seat. So take a look at the menu beforehand so you know what to decide on. And good look deciding because everything sounded so good. I would like to go back and try some of the other pancakes they have. It's a small place but nothing overwhelming once you find your seat.

Looked up a place on yelp for my boyfriend and I to stop by for breakfast because I was taking him down to Dana Point for his birthday I found this place and decided to give it a go! I got the banana strawberry Nutella crepes and they were AMAZING! Not only did they look good but they tasted great. Only downside was that the line was out the door and seating was hard to find. We had to snatch a table before it was even cleared. Would still go back though! read more

Ok...i love pancake so this makes me biased but this place might be the best restaurant in OC. Their chicken and waffles not only has one of the best waffles you will ever have but their fried chicken katsu, or chicken cutlet @ your favorite Japanese joint is a unique and amazing change from the classic fried chicken. The coconut anything is buttery and flavorful. even if you get one of their burgers get a side of pancakes. This place also has great daily specials shapoopi! read more

This is a legit, reliable breakfast spot. Nice patio, small dining room. They have a friendly staff and quick service. It gets three stars because it's not anything amazing and I am often disappointed by places that are highly rated with a lot of reviews, but fall short. Average food for good prices. Line got long while we were waiting but food came fairly fast. They should let you know the coffee is poured at counter and left there for you, not delivered with food. Didn't bother to tell us that until they brought our meal, at which point food got cold going in to fix these coffees that had been sitting. Meh. read more

This place is pretty tasty and I have been coming here for years even though I don't live near every time we got up Dana point we always hit up this place. But this time I don't know why but whenever we hit up Stacks we always go in the morning but when we went with my family at 12 and there was no line but that was nice and then when we got our number we sat down.My short stack chocolate chip pancakes came and then we turned to the right because there was a huge noise and then we saw a 250 pound man on the floor and a broken chair and then he started to rant about how there was a broken chair and how it was already broken but we looked at the chair before and then it wasn't broken but the rest of our meal was good and the gyro scramble was good and the fries were excellent. I really want to like this place. Unfortunately, the food wasn't great. We waited for at least 30 mins too. I don't know why people say the food is good. I tasted my food and my friend's food, and they both are very bland. We ordered the loco moco and the caption crunch toast. After eating the food, I was very disappointed. The service was okay. Nothing special. Only one lady seemed to like her job. She's probably the Owner. The other employees were busy and apathetic. Yelp reviews are totally misguided. Loved this place. I went to the one off marguerite, the one close to Saddleback College, and I loved it!! So did my friends that went with me that told me we should go and I was definitely not disappointed. It was amazing!! We all got something different, all classical breakfast foods; ranging from eggs to pancakes and waffles:) all amazing. Def a place I'll go to again the next instance me and some folks are tryna eat out at a breakfast place:) read more

Looking for a great satisfying breakfast place? Go to Stacks! I recommend getting here early though, because there is usually a line out the door overtime I come, and it gets longer as the morning goes by, rain or shine, people want to eat. The food is very good and the service is exceptional. The prices are reasonable and you really can't leave disappointed. My favorite is the banana cream waffle. It seems simple but it is so GOOD! Its a large waffle with whip cream and banana on top. They also have good rich coffee, which is a gold star for me, since that is my life line. Go check them out! read more

WoW! So disappointed! Where to start??? Kids staying at a beach house down the way and we had ate at other Stacks and had great experience-so we decided to grab a quick lunch here picking up my kids. The workers were not friendly at all. Tables were all dirty even though the morning rush was gone and only about 4 customers there. The name on my receipt is Norma, so I assume that's who took our order. She was sooooo slow! That's oK, but she took my daughters order, then told us to wait. Erased it, placed an order for HERSELF, went & got her credit card, swiped it, printed her receipt THEN went back to our order. Say What?!?! My 12 year old twins & 19 year old were like ‍‍ I had to ask someone to wipe down a table. When food arrived, all was OK until My Kalbi plate came...it had Mac Salad instead of Green Salad. My daughter said "oh we ordered Green Salad & Rice" the guy took the plate back and said "Well, that's rice" WTF? The smart thing to do would have been to bring us a side salad and leave the plate. But he took it and when it was returned looked good. Until we went to eat the Kalbi. It literally was a pile of individual bones with NO meat!!! And like 2 pieces on the bottom. I collected the bones and took them up to the counter. They tried to tell me Kalbi is a bony meat. Did I mention I am Asian & my Dad from Hawaii. I know what Kalbi is! Geesh! The lady next to us had finished her Kalbi Plate and it had more meat on it then my "fresh" ones! (It was still on the table next to us) They did remake it but only after the cooks gave me the stare down. Honestly, didn't even feel safe eating them cause of the looks they gave me. Could be lack of personality cause no one had one there. Expressionless Zombies except for KIM!!! Kim rocks! And The busboy! My kids were on the defense of this place (they had ate there a few times that week)but proceeded to tell us how they messed up their order every time and got the wrong food. They are 12 so easier critics. I will visit the other locations but wouldn't waste my time at this one. Oh and Norma was chillin, enjoying her food (maybe it was the meat off my Kalbi)when we left. read more

Driving pass and saw the line outside. Always in a mood for pancakes. So, we stopped and had breakfast with the family. Glad we did!! It was absolutely delicious!! The line moves fast so don't get discouraged. Also great service!! But, Norma really went above and beyond with excellent service. As we were already done with our breakfast. I asked Norma if I could place an order to go and if I had to wait in the line. She immediately offered to take my order and said I didn't have to wait in the line again. Now that's some good customers service. Definitely recommend this place for delicious breakfast!! read more

I typically would write my reviews based on everything, not just the food, but I really love this place a lot. My family and I come here almost every other week and we drive along PCH from Laguna Beach to have breakfast. The lines can be overwhelming, which can go to show you that the quality of food really IS that good. They make it when you order and you get HUGE portions. So you will NEVER leave feeling hungry at all. It's fantastic! There's usually a long line, but it flows pretty quickly. You can only get a seat after you've ordered the food. That's the rule. A server will find you a table. This will keep everything more organized with the flow of traffic. The variety is enormous. I love getting the kalbi beef with eggs for breakfast! The portions are so huge that it fills me up for the whole day! You get A LOT for your money and it's Yum! read more

Stocks is the best place to have them deliver heard when you're hung over on a Sunday morning. They have the best combinations of pancakes you will ever taste. They are coconut pancakes are amazing they have Hawaiian sausage that is really spicy they mixed with eggs that will awaken your taste buds after a night of drinking. I would definitely recommend but remember you will wait about 30 to 40 minutes before eating get there early on a Sunday.. read more

The food was amazing, we got the strawberry n' cream pancakes amazing some of the best I've had! The Island chilaquiles were absolutely delicious just the right amount of spice if your in the mood. The burritos were devoured in 5 minutes, this place has some great breakfast and I would definitely recommend. We will be back for sure!! read more

What's not to love about this unassuming pancake house with delicious food and great coffee?! Staying at the Marriott around the corner, I could happily eat here every morning. This is a great breakfast spot on the PCH. I came on a Saturday around 11 and the wait was reasonable. You wait in line and order at the register instead of having a waiter come to your table. We got the huevos rancheros and banana Nutella French toast which were delicious. They also have fresh brewed coffee with free refills ! read more

This place is great! Got the traditional eggs Benedict and it didn't disappoint. Rich and creamy hollandaise sauce and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Eggs benedict is great and reasonable price. Pancakes are fantastic they have sugar free syrup which is pretty good. They have a waffle with some kind of pork and cheese on it. Good food today. But the place wasn't clean. The floors were dirty. The bathroom was dirty. The trash was full in the bathroom from the day. And the restaurant smelled like the bathroom. They were out of fruit. Looked like no manager was there today. You can do better. read more

Good breakfast/lunch place. Food is delicious. But I'm not sure what the hype is. Not kid-friendly and not large group friendly. Had portuguese sausage and eggs. The sausage was good. Eggs were good. Also had captain crunch toast. It was quite delicious. Tried my friend's order of Loco moco and spicy fried chicken and waffle. They were delicious too. The waitresses were overworked. Very busy. They did their best providing best customer service. Food alone is 4 stars. But my experience with seating arrangement hassle and other customer's drama brought this down to 3 stars in my overall experience of this place. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Nixon T.

Nixon Tanuwidjaja has spent his life pursuing his passion for uniquely delicious meals. Working full time in a restaurant while he put himself through college, Nixon realized how much he enjoyed the hospitality industry and began his pursuit to own his own restaurant concept. Directing operations for four Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles gave Nixon two life-changing experiences, an appreciation of the delicate nuances of Asian Cuisine and an introduction to Ovita who would soon become his wife and partner. The opportunity to move to Hawaii, allowed Nixon and Ovita to experience the Aloha of Hawaiian cooking that infuses Hawaiian and Asian influences into their favorite meal of the day - breakfast. Make sure you stop here for some filipino bites and try a little bit of everything. The staff was super friendly and everyone was nice from the host, baristas and wait staff. Very impressed with the aesthetics here as well. Loved the plants and think it gave the place such warmth.

Sweet, tangy, and fresh salad with grapes, pear, raisins, and nuts. Highly recommend French dip, especially as the first thing you get here if it's your first time. I'd have given it 2 stars, but they are still fairly new and might still be figuring things out; however, I wish I would have read reviews before I went (other than the one on 12/8 that looks like it was possibly written by the owner!) Dana Point SO needs a nice, clean breakfast place. The ones in the Harbor are beat, Harbor House is gross and Bonjour is totally overpriced, overrated and has 1 server waiting on 20 tables. That leaves the St. Regis and the Ritz Carlton$$$$$ I am a big fan of eggs benedict . . . but not on a cardboard plate!!! *Note - sauce on cardboard makes for a soggy plate and bad presentation. My friend opted for the breakfast pork chops. The presentation was a chop on a paper plate. Dry, no garnish, no color. She ate it anyway because she was starving. We would have sat outside because it was such a nice day, but the tables were a bit rusty and not wiped down. The place is very cute inside. Your order is placed at the counter, they give you a number then deliver your order to the table. I much prefer to be waited on -- and with two girls standing behind the counter in a restaurant with only 10 tables -- it seems I very well could have been. But I understand that is not their concept. The girls were friendly -- especially the one with the glued-on smile, a bit overkill. If they move away from paper plates and offer table service, I will give it another try... read more

This place is absolutely horrible!!! People beware do not order food from this place. I waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for my food to be delivered. The delivery guy calls at the 1:30 mark and states that he'll be making it to my house within 10 minutes. However, I called him back and he stated that he returned the food back to the restaurant because I hung up the phone without saying bye or announcing the called had ended. This is absurd, especially considering the fact that the food was already paid for through seemless. At this point, my credit card has been charged and I have no food after waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. So thereafter, I call the restaurant and ask to speak to the manager-and staff states that the manager is not in as of 8:54am-remind you this is a breakfast restaurant. People please save yourself the trouble and do not order from this terrible place. I don't know how they can receive anywhere near two stars let alone 4 stars. Beware the service is the worst in New Jersey!!! This place sucks big time!!! read more

Mr Nixon : The owner of stacks pancake house. I took my wife for breakfast after a stressful and hard week and treatment for cancer to have breakfast in your restaurant in Dana Point. There was a long line of students and their group exceeded 40 students. I took my place in the line while my wife found an empty table to sit on as she was very tired and exhausted at the time. ( Big and Short Girl ) The manager of the restaurant came yelling at her in a rude way and telling her to leave the table because she didn't have a number and then the whole customers turn around to see what's going on that very embarrassing and insulting and inhuman, I didn't want to leave a comment, but the look of sadness and shame in my wife's eyes hurt me a lot, Our family usually gather here every weekend after church. I know since your business got so busy you don't care about costumers any more, But you just lost our business. We never come back. read more

To begin with, this meal costs approximately $40, but the price is not my primary concern. I ordered gluten-free pancakes, and it was immediately apparent that they were made from Kodiak pancake mix, a brand readily available at grocery stores. The pancakes were overly flat, and given my celiac condition, I had to pay an additional $4 just to substitute them in, which feels entirely unreasonable for the quality I received. Furthermore, my eggs were served at an unacceptable temperature--ice cold, to be precise. While I understand that eggs don't stay warm for long, these were served as if they hadn't been reheated at all. I was forced to request a replacement. Additionally, the restaurant itself had an unpleasant odor, which only added to the disappointing experience. The overall quality of the food did not remotely justify the price, and I feel compelled to warn others: this dining experience falls far below expectations. read more

I use to live in Hawaii and miss the local food there. I found stacks and was in heaven. Their portions are great! I got the Loco Moco with Spam and also had the regular with beef patties. It comes with the regualr gravy and rice. The gravy is what makes a loco moco and I loved theirs! A little sriracha hot sauce on it and mmmm mmm mm!! The chicken katsu I had once at lunch. It wasn't bad, it was amazing either. I'm not sure if I recall ever having any that was amazing. Probably haven't or I would remember. Anyway, their current special for the last month now is the chicken waffles. If you can handle a little spicy, its spicy mayo on top which is sriracha mixed with mayo and its on top of chicken, waffles topped off with melted cheese! So great! Took familly there from out of town. Lots of parking and great prices for being on the coast in Dana Point! read more

The vibe at this spot is super chill, perfect for a laid-back meal. They've got most of their seating outside, but there's a bit of room inside, although it fills up quick. We lucked out and grabbed a spot outside just in time. As for the grub, I went for the meat lovers omelette, and the missus opted for the protein omelette. Both were solid picks. I was so hungry that I couldn't even pause for a pic, but trust me, they looked as good as they tasted. My omelette was packed with savory goodness, didn't need any fancy extras, just a sprinkle of pepper and a dash of hot sauce to kick things up a notch. Now, the wife's dish could've used a bit more flavor, but she was still pleased with her choice. The service was good, but there was a small hiccup - our meals were brought separately. Nonetheless, it didn't put a damper on our meal in this relaxed setting! read more

Woke up on a sunday morning really excited to eat at stacks. Once we arrived, I was kinda blah. Before even looking at the menu I was disappointed. The atmosphere is not very accommodating and its so small/crowded that it gives off a sense of urgency (once we got our food I felt like i was being timed and needed to eat and leave quickly). So if you are looking for a place to relax, and enjoy a nice breakfast - it's not the place to be. Ordering at the counter is not was I was looking for. Coffee was great. Food was eh ok. My boyfriend and I split a ham & cheese omelette and the captain crunch & nut french toast. Their timing is way off! We got our omelette and 10 mns later we got our french toast. (it seems like it was happening to everyone around us.) To me, it is overpriced and the portions are small. Not a fan. read more

This is my Sunday spot!!! Every Sunday before church, I grab breakfast here and seriously, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. I like that you pay in advance and the food comes out super fast! If you get there after 8am on the weekend, good luck finding a seat because it gets pretty packed! There Philly Cheesesteak omelete, Eggs benedict, Crepe, Portuguese Sausage omelete are great!! I get fruits with sometimes in the breakfast combo or you can get 3 pancakes. Their coconut syrup is unreal and addicting!! HIghly recommended if you have friends in town or family! I like that its right off the coast. I go early enough to always find parking right out front. They have a parking structure right above so there's good parking there. read more

The food comes out fresh, portions are generous, and everything is packed with flavor. What really keeps me coming back is the consistency. Great service, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. It's the kind of breakfast spot that makes it hard to try anywhere else because you know you're going to have a great meal here. All I need to say is that their loco Moco lives up to the expectations. You have options of getting hamburger meat, spam, Portuguese sausage, etc. and I got the Portuguese sausage and it was really good. They gave 5 big slices with over easy eggs and a ton of rice. For only $7.95 and about a 15 minute wait (don't let the line intimidate you cause it goes by fast!), I absolutely loved the place. My only issue was that the server who kept walking around and handing menus to the people in line and trying to get us all organized wasn't too friendly. Ignored me twice when I called for her in front of me. read more

What happened to this place? Did they change owner or cook? The food here used to be really good, but the last two times I have been here the food was horrible. The quality of the food is different. The breakfast I get has ham, but the last two times I've had it, the quality of the meat was pathetic. Not sure if they are trying to save money and buying cheaper products, but I have no desire to go to this place anymore. read more

This place is SO GOOD. I took my mom here for breakfast and we were not let down. She had the corned beef hash, which she said was awesome. I had the loco moco with fried rice and was IN HEAVEN. The people there are always super friendly and the service is quick. We went when it was completely packed and although we had to wait for a table, once we had one the food came quickly. Great little place. It's a busy little place but def worth the wait. It wasn't a long wait thou. Food was delicious. I love rice and to have it for breakfast with my eggs and corned beef hash is awesome. My husband had the Kalua omelette and it was good as well. The sauce on it was spicy but good and it went perfect with my rice. Pancakes was light and fluffy. Def recommend this place. read more

I honestly love this place. I have been coming here for over 8 years and have been to more than 5 of their locations. A super-fan would be a light way to put it. From the omelettes to the smoothies, this place slaps. You have to ask for the coconut syrup because it makes pancakes taste that much better. Great job to the whole Stacks team. Love the outdoor patio- a great place for breakfast/brunch on PCH. We have only been for breakfast, expecially like the Macadamia Nut Waffle & build-your-own omlette. Close to the harbor, which is beautiful for a walk by the ocean after breakfast- out of town guests would love this experience. This place is popular and can be crowded- be patient and enjoy. read more

Stacks is small and the line can be long on weekends, but it is worth the wait. The line moves quickly and there is indoor seating, as well as a patio. You order at the counter and servers deliver your food promptly. All menu items are reasonably priced so it won't put much of a dent in your pocketbook!! read more
