Stacks is definitely the place to go if you're hungry. The portions are very generous--think big plates and filling breakfasts. My husband would have absolutely loved it here. For me, though, everything felt a bit oversized, and I would've happily traded some of the volume for slightly higher‑quality ingredients. Nothing was bad, just more about quantity than refinement. If you're looking for a hearty, no‑nonsense breakfast that will keep you full for hours, this is your spot. If you lean toward smaller portions and ingredient‑forward dishes, it may not be your first choice. I gave it a 3 vs a 4 because the pancakes were doughy on the inside

I was excited I was right near this place and got to have a good hawaiian style breakfast! The pancakes were amazing and the ube syrup really made it. The loco moco with the longanisa was good but I would want to try another meat next time. Good portions for the price and the staff were super friendly and kept everything clean. I also really like they had a lot of outdoor seating where you can enjoy the views.

I was skeptical about going to a pancake chain, after several unimpressive experiences with IHOP. This is the only Stacks I've been to and it was good. The portions were generous, and it was surprisingly tasty. Everyone finished their meals or got takeout boxes. Service was friendly. Seating is tight on a Saturday, so grab a table quickly if you see one. The parking situation in the complex is even worse, but not an issue if you don't mind parking on the street and walking.

this is one of our favorite brunch places! we got the the loco moco with katsu & kalua pork omelette with a side of macadamia pancakes. the pancakes were so delicious. they had the crispy crust on the outsides and were soft in the middle. the sauce in the loco moco complimented the katsu very well. the food is delicious however it might be a little difficult to find parking in this area.

Casual breakfast place when staying in Dana Point that I've been visiting for over ten years. It closes at 2:00. I recommend the buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, Loco Moco and the breakfast sandwiches. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are several tables inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you see a table, have someone in your party snag it because the seating will fill up quickly on the weekends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I could eat there 2-3 days in a row. Huge breakfast menu, but you got to get at least one pancake!

I ordered the burrito and vanilla latte. The burrito I ordered with the corned beef hash. it was flavorless without the salsa, or the beans. now I know why I only order pancakes when I go here. The line is always quite long too. You should get here early if you don't want to wait so long to order. The latte was decent. My partner ordered a latte as well, I don't remember what it was, because it was on the special latte menu. It looks and sounded like it would have some sweetness, but it was very much lacking sweetness for her, so she added some sweetener. Since you pay and tip before you get your food, I noticed the service was minimal while we were seated and waiting for our food. The price wasn't too bad, especially considering the location. Also, the parking lot is on the smaller side, but somehow, I have always found a parking spot, even though it feels like it's the last parking spot whenever I go. I have good memories here, but I prob won't be going back anytime soon.

The food was good at this place, the waiting line was like 20-30 min. The parking is next to the building. When you park get down by the stairs and it takes you directly to the place. The environment is nice, music not loud, good to talk. The reason I give 4 stars is because of the cashier she wasn't paying attention, I asked for macadamia pancakes but she didn't put it on the order, we have to reorder and waste.more time because of the time. We are shorter on time sometimes because of work, and visiting places like this will be amazing if they can save us time.

We had such a good experience here! got a breakfast burrito with kahlua pork + a hawaiian latte (macademia nut + coconut). I will say the drinks run a little sweet (I asked for less sweet and it was perfect) but the staff are super nice and can make it with fewer pumps!

I ordered the two eggs with protein bacon was my protein. I selected pancakes. I also had coffee. Everything was good. The pancakes didn't come out with the eggs and bacon. I was almost finished when they came out. I had to use a lot of cream because the coffee was strong. It reminded me of Kona coffee. Everyone was really nice and I liked the island music.

Love the food here. The pancakes are some of the fluffiest pancakes I've tried. We got the cookies and cream Pancakes, eggs and steak hibachi, and the loco moco with chicken katsu. Everything was so flavorful. The steak was so delicious and tender. Maybe a little on the saltier side but nothing that was deter me from getting it again. The loco moco sauce was flavorful. You order before you take a seat. So take a look at the menu beforehand so you know what to decide on. And good look deciding because everything sounded so good. I would like to go back and try some of the other pancakes they have. It's a small place but nothing overwhelming once you find your seat.

Okay, due to the wife's busy work schedule we're finally getting a chance to come back here. Since it's been six months we're going with our cravings for what we ordered last time. Yes, not the most exciting of plans. The good news is that our opinions from last time were no fluke. This place is "too legit to quit". The SPICY CHICKEN & BACON WAFFLE is nearly as stunning visually as it is in the mouth. It consists of chicken katsu, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar jack cheese, spicy mayo topped with maple syrup and powdered sugar. I added a bit more maple syrup as I wanted more balance to the sweet/spicy/salty combos going on. This thing is truly delicious and one hell of a gut bomb. I will skip lunch, play golf and be just fine until dinner. The wife had the KALUA PORK BENEDICT and it was seriously visually appetizing as well. The tender and moist looking pork and the symmetry to the dish caught my eye. The wife tore it up. The COFFEE is quite good and smooth (not bitter). The staff are friendly and work the room well. I promise next time I will try something different such as: captain mac nut french toast, nutella smores french toast or the blueberry ricotta crepes if it is available. And we'll find a way to be back in less than six months. read more

This is definitely our favorite breakfast place hands down! I usually get the corned beef hash, and substitute the pancakes for french toast. I just prefer french toast, but my boyfriend loves the pancakes, both are bomb! Best part is their syrups, blueberry, coconut, and maple, soooo delicious! The green tea latte is yummy, and the coffee is pretty good! The moco loco is great, i love gravy. The chicken katsu, is decent, i'm not a fan of their macaroni salad thou, and their mixed green side salad is only lettuce lol, no cucumber, tomato, nothing on it, their fries are a lil thicker than shoestring style, not my favorite style. There's always a line out the door, expect to wait at least 10 minutes to order, but the food comes out real fast, not like it's pre-made, just that they're on top of it! WOW. This place is one of the best restaurants in this area. Their food is amazing, their servers are nice, and it's not like one of those big places with all these fancy expectations. It's pretty humble, and that's something I like about it. One of my favorite dishes is their loco moco. I am polynesian, so rice, eggs, and some kind of meat is paradise! It's a great place to go for breakfast. In fact, I hear it is so popular that kids go their for breakfast whenever school starts (which is a weekly thing I'm told.) Anyway, this place is one of my favorites, and I think I'm going to come here more often! read more

I enjoy going to this local breakfast place. There is always a line here, especially on the weekends. I enjoy this place, since it has a variety of different items on the menu ranging from breakfast to lunch to desserts. They offer a variety of different options things like something sweet, something for vegetarians and something for meat lovers. There is something here for everyone. I really enjoy the thoughtfulness of their menu along with their prices. Their prices are very affordable. I have been here probably about 5 or 6 times or so and I have never been disappointed here. I love their Benedict as well as their pancakes. If you're looking for an affordable breakfast place along with somewhere that's easily accessible this might just be a new spot! read more

Great place. We go here all the time. You have to go early because they are always crowded (so that should tell you something!) The food is fantastic and guess what, so is the service! They all care so much. For example, if you get an omelette with a side of pancakes (and you probably will and should) they will bring the pancakes out first because they are ready first and they want you to eat them the moment they are ready. Who does this? They do. It is a great little breakfast cafe with good food, great prices and service. read more

I don't get why people line up to eat here. I really don't. I also don't understand why the loco moco is getting such rave reviews. Have any of these reviewers ever eaten an actual loco moco from an actual Hawaiian restaurant? They taste nothing like what's served here. My loco moco was bland with very little gravy. The meat also didn't taste that fresh. I tried some pancakes as well and they were OK but nothing to line up for. Service was great, but that doesn't quite make up for the lackluster food for me. Went to Stacks this past Saturday with my nephew. As many other reviewers mentioned on the weekends it has a line to order. It went fairly quick and the friendly staff helped by handing out menus to those of us in line. I think the only thing did surprise me is that their list of drinks wasn't on the printed menu. It was on the wall by the cashier. Ordering was quick and easy. I got a breakfast burrito and my nephew got kids breakfast with chocolate chip pancake and a chocolate milk. My breakfast burrito was very filling but the ratio of potato, bacon and egg was off a little. I could have used less potato and more egg and bacon. I tried a bite of my nephew's pancake and they were delicious. Also his chocolate milk looked and tasted amazing. I will definitely make Stacks a regular place I visit when I want to treat myself to a nice breakfast out. read more

Delicious and cheap! Long, long, lines but it goes fairly quickly and tables turn over quick enough you don't have worry about finding seating. Kids breakfast meal was perfect portion size. My lite plate was also a perfect portion. All the pancakes were light and fluffy. Yum! read more

Stopped here for brunch! Pretty pleased. Its one of those order first, take your number to a table type of places. All the workers were nice and the place was clean. I had the fruity pebble french toast and loved it. I also recommend their iced mexican chocolate drink! I didnt manage to get any pictures because it looked so good I had to dive in. I knocked off a star for the size of the place. When busy it has that cramped feeling even outside on the patio. But other than that it was great! read more

The person taking our order was not very friendly but she might of been stressed out because of the line going out the door. When we received our food, which was about five minutes apart from each other, it was so-so. My son, who loves bacon, said he didn't like theirs! I agreed with him. It was under cooked. The serving staff was nice and the outdoor seating was nice but I won't be going back. I'll stick with Harbor House for breakfast. read more

How am I suppose to enjoy normal French toast again now that I've eaten Captain Mac French toast?! Hawaiian bread dipped in batter and then coated with captain crunch and macadamia nuts. It's a good thing I don't live close to this place because I would be 300 pounds (but happy)! My daughter ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon from the kids menu. She said it was one of the best pancakes she's ever eaten. It was busy! We lucked out finding a seat. The staff there are super friendly. Highly recommend this place! read more

I live 1 mile from this restaurant, so have given them chances since they opened. Its okay food - corned beef has break burr, eggs bene, banana pancakes - all pretty good - but on par with a Dennys or IHOP. Since teenage kids made it their hangout about 8 months ago, crowds now. My new wife and I love this place big time! All it takes is for one of us to say "Stacks? Eh?", and we both rather excitedly jump in the car and drive from Laguna Beach. The place is super busy, but we never feel as though we have to wait, the food comes out super fast is always awesome! The Captain M'nut is our favorite dish (Captain Crunch French toast) and we always split an order of that in addition to our entrées. All this, and we never spend money like we went out for breakfast. Great product, and great service! We're lifers now. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Nixon T.

Nixon Tanuwidjaja has spent his life pursuing his passion for uniquely delicious meals. Working full time in a restaurant while he put himself through college, Nixon realized how much he enjoyed the hospitality industry and began his pursuit to own his own restaurant concept. Directing operations for four Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles gave Nixon two life-changing experiences, an appreciation of the delicate nuances of Asian Cuisine and an introduction to Ovita who would soon become his wife and partner. The opportunity to move to Hawaii, allowed Nixon and Ovita to experience the Aloha of Hawaiian cooking that infuses Hawaiian and Asian influences into their favorite meal of the day - breakfast. Today, on a Saturday at 12-ish, as a family of 4 we were able to get seated right away. Our server was attentive and offered/brought waters right away. We were seated inside which was open and spacious but loud enough to make it family friendly. The tables were far enough a part that you did not feel like you were on top of each other. Next time, we might ask to sit outside so our young boys can watch the cars drive by. We learned that the kitchen is nut free (always double check as this could change), which was amazing since our son has a severe nut allergy. He was so excited to learn this as he can be limited at other places due to cross contamination or the wrong oils. Then when the food came out and it was delicious - it sealed the deal. It is now in the top of our list of places to go. The kids cheeseburger is good size and not a smaller version as some places do. The chicken tenders were panko crusted which was so crunchy. My husband and I shared the smoked carrot and chicken tacos and we enjoyed them both. The beer was also very good with my husband and I each trying a different kind - an IPA and a Pale Ale. So they wasted the food, kept my money, and created a problem where there didn't need to be one. In the end, DoorDash refunded me and I got the extra food for free, but that was DoorDash making it right, not the restaurant. Good food only goes so far for a restaurant, but when the service is this bad the food doesn't make up for it. Get it together.

The food was good, portions were large enough and everything was pretty good as far as the food. Not sure why the service was so incredibly patchy and absent when we ate at 3:30 and the place was 2/3 empty. It was pretty good, I may try again but for the price point I think the service can be a little better. Nice...but slow. Definitely need more training on the menu! Mid. Not bad. Not great.

I'd have given it 2 stars, but they are still fairly new and might still be figuring things out; however, I wish I would have read reviews before I went (other than the one on 12/8 that looks like it was possibly written by the owner!) Dana Point SO needs a nice, clean breakfast place. The ones in the Harbor are beat, Harbor House is gross and Bonjour is totally overpriced, overrated and has 1 server waiting on 20 tables. That leaves the St. Regis and the Ritz Carlton$$$$$ I am a big fan of eggs benedict . . . but not on a cardboard plate!!! *Note - sauce on cardboard makes for a soggy plate and bad presentation. My friend opted for the breakfast pork chops. The presentation was a chop on a paper plate. Dry, no garnish, no color. She ate it anyway because she was starving. We would have sat outside because it was such a nice day, but the tables were a bit rusty and not wiped down. The place is very cute inside. Your order is placed at the counter, they give you a number then deliver your order to the table. I much prefer to be waited on -- and with two girls standing behind the counter in a restaurant with only 10 tables -- it seems I very well could have been. This place is absolutely horrible!!! People beware do not order food from this place. I waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for my food to be delivered. The delivery guy calls at the 1:30 mark and states that he'll be making it to my house within 10 minutes. However, I called him back and he stated that he returned the food back to the restaurant because I hung up the phone without saying bye or announcing the called had ended. This is absurd, especially considering the fact that the food was already paid for through seemless. At this point, my credit card has been charged and I have no food after waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. So thereafter, I call the restaurant and ask to speak to the manager-and staff states that the manager is not in as of 8:54am-remind you this is a breakfast restaurant. People please save yourself the trouble and do not order from this terrible place. I don't know how they can receive anywhere near two stars let alone 4 stars. Beware the service is the worst in New Jersey!!! This place sucks big time!!! read more

Mr Nixon : The owner of stacks pancake house. I took my wife for breakfast after a stressful and hard week and treatment for cancer to have breakfast in your restaurant in Dana Point. There was a long line of students and their group exceeded 40 students. I took my place in the line while my wife found an empty table to sit on as she was very tired and exhausted at the time. ( Big and Short Girl ) The manager of the restaurant came yelling at her in a rude way and telling her to leave the table because she didn't have a number and then the whole customers turn around to see what's going on that very embarrassing and insulting and inhuman, I didn't want to leave a comment, but the look of sadness and shame in my wife's eyes hurt me a lot, Our family usually gather here every weekend after church. I know since your business got so busy you don't care about costumers any more, But you just lost our business. We never come back. read more

To begin with, this meal costs approximately $40, but the price is not my primary concern. I ordered gluten-free pancakes, and it was immediately apparent that they were made from Kodiak pancake mix, a brand readily available at grocery stores. The pancakes were overly flat, and given my celiac condition, I had to pay an additional $4 just to substitute them in, which feels entirely unreasonable for the quality I received. Furthermore, my eggs were served at an unacceptable temperature--ice cold, to be precise. While I understand that eggs don't stay warm for long, these were served as if they hadn't been reheated at all. I was forced to request a replacement. Additionally, the restaurant itself had an unpleasant odor, which only added to the disappointing experience. The overall quality of the food did not remotely justify the price, and I feel compelled to warn others: this dining experience falls far below expectations. read more

I use to live in Hawaii and miss the local food there. I found stacks and was in heaven. Their portions are great! I got the Loco Moco with Spam and also had the regular with beef patties. It comes with the regualr gravy and rice. The gravy is what makes a loco moco and I loved theirs! A little sriracha hot sauce on it and mmmm mmm mm!! The chicken katsu I had once at lunch. It wasn't bad, it was amazing either. I'm not sure if I recall ever having any that was amazing. Probably haven't or I would remember. Anyway, their current special for the last month now is the chicken waffles. If you can handle a little spicy, its spicy mayo on top which is sriracha mixed with mayo and its on top of chicken, waffles topped off with melted cheese! So great! Took familly there from out of town. Lots of parking and great prices for being on the coast in Dana Point! read more

The vibe at this spot is super chill, perfect for a laid-back meal. They've got most of their seating outside, but there's a bit of room inside, although it fills up quick. We lucked out and grabbed a spot outside just in time. As for the grub, I went for the meat lovers omelette, and the missus opted for the protein omelette. Both were solid picks. I was so hungry that I couldn't even pause for a pic, but trust me, they looked as good as they tasted. My omelette was packed with savory goodness, didn't need any fancy extras, just a sprinkle of pepper and a dash of hot sauce to kick things up a notch. Now, the wife's dish could've used a bit more flavor, but she was still pleased with her choice. The service was good, but there was a small hiccup - our meals were brought separately. Woke up on a sunday morning really excited to eat at stacks. Once we arrived, I was kinda blah. Before even looking at the menu I was disappointed. The atmosphere is not very accommodating and its so small/crowded that it gives off a sense of urgency (once we got our food I felt like i was being timed and needed to eat and leave quickly). So if you are looking for a place to relax, and enjoy a nice breakfast - it's not the place to be. Ordering at the counter is not was I was looking for. Coffee was great. Food was eh ok. My boyfriend and I split a ham & cheese omelette and the captain crunch & nut french toast. Their timing is way off! We got our omelette and 10 mns later we got our french toast. (it seems like it was happening to everyone around us.) To me, it is overpriced and the portions are small. Not a fan. read more

This is my Sunday spot!!! Every Sunday before church, I grab breakfast here and seriously, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. I like that you pay in advance and the food comes out super fast! If you get there after 8am on the weekend, good luck finding a seat because it gets pretty packed! There Philly Cheesesteak omelete, Eggs benedict, Crepe, Portuguese Sausage omelete are great!! I get fruits with sometimes in the breakfast combo or you can get 3 pancakes. Their coconut syrup is unreal and addicting!! HIghly recommended if you have friends in town or family! I like that its right off the coast. I go early enough to always find parking right out front. They have a parking structure right above so there's good parking there. read more

Stacks never disappoints. Whether you're craving a hearty breakfast or something sweet, this place always delivers. The food comes out fresh, portions are generous, and everything is packed with flavor. What really keeps me coming back is the consistency. Great service, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. It's the kind of breakfast spot that makes it hard to try anywhere else because you know you're going to have a great meal here. All I need to say is that their loco Moco lives up to the expectations. You have options of getting hamburger meat, spam, Portuguese sausage, etc. and I got the Portuguese sausage and it was really good. They gave 5 big slices with over easy eggs and a ton of rice. For only $7.95 and about a 15 minute wait (don't let the line intimidate you cause it goes by fast!), I absolutely loved the place. My only issue was that the server who kept walking around and handing menus to the people in line and trying to get us all organized wasn't too friendly. Ignored me twice when I called for her in front of me. read more

What happened to this place? Did they change owner or cook? The food here used to be really good, but the last two times I have been here the food was horrible. The quality of the food is different. The breakfast I get has ham, but the last two times I've had it, the quality of the meat was pathetic. Not sure if they are trying to save money and buying cheaper products, but I have no desire to go to this place anymore. read more

This place is SO GOOD. I took my mom here for breakfast and we were not let down. She had the corned beef hash, which she said was awesome. I had the loco moco with fried rice and was IN HEAVEN. The people there are always super friendly and the service is quick. We went when it was completely packed and although we had to wait for a table, once we had one the food came quickly. Great little place. It's a busy little place but def worth the wait. It wasn't a long wait thou. Food was delicious. I love rice and to have it for breakfast with my eggs and corned beef hash is awesome. My husband had the Kalua omelette and it was good as well. The sauce on it was spicy but good and it went perfect with my rice. Pancakes was light and fluffy. Def recommend this place. read more

I honestly love this place. I have been coming here for over 8 years and have been to more than 5 of their locations. A super-fan would be a light way to put it. From the omelettes to the smoothies, this place slaps. You have to ask for the coconut syrup because it makes pancakes taste that much better. Great job to the whole Stacks team. Love the outdoor patio- a great place for breakfast/brunch on PCH. We have only been for breakfast, expecially like the Macadamia Nut Waffle & build-your-own omlette. Close to the harbor, which is beautiful for a walk by the ocean after breakfast- out of town guests would love this experience. This place is popular and can be crowded- be patient and enjoy. read more

Stacks is small and the line can be long on weekends, but it is worth the wait. The line moves quickly and there is indoor seating, as well as a patio. You order at the counter and servers deliver your food promptly. All menu items are reasonably priced so it won't put much of a dent in your pocketbook!! read more

THE BEST BREAKFAST EVER,, we go back every Sunday. First time I had their delicious crepe, next time it was oatmeal w fresh fruits (huge,, could not finish it), I think I am going to try their pancakes, so fare everything has been yummy...must go early, tho the place gets packed by 8 am read more

This place is right down PCH. It is a great place to stop and eat a good breakfast! they have everything and all of their food is very fulfilling and delicious. the pancakes were light and fluffy and melted in your mouth. The food was affordable and the customer service was on point. read more

Stacks pancake house had a very wide selection of choices. They were very interesting in their flavor choices. I would recommend the Oreo cookies and cream pancakes. They were very delicious and filling. I would very highly recommend you going there next time your visit Laguna. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Stack's for breakfast last weekend and were amazed at the selection and food quality! I had the yummiest blueberry pancakes and a side of scrambled eggs! The service was quick and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back! read more
