Outstanding little motel that has been recently remodeled and with upgraded fixtures. We were on the first floor in a corner room, which gave us considerably more privacy than we expected for the price, as our window faced into a garden/fenced area. The fixtures, flooring and solid surfaces were definitely beyond what you find in a typical Monterey area motel, the beds are comfortable and bedding quality is excellent. Microwave and refrigerator are included, along with a Keurig machine and unlimited Starbucks or Peet's coffee pods. In the lobby, you have a drink dispenser with orange juice, cranberry drink, strawberry drink, and cold water. We got our towels replaced by request on every day, but no maid services for stays under 4 nights. We stayed 3 nights and we had plenty of soap, shampoo, and other amenities. Service at the front desk was excellent, and the location of the property was just right for walking to nearby park and beaches. Randy's Sandwich Shop sells breakfast from 6:30am to 2pm, and they are a great dining option for picnics in your room or at Point Lobos State Park (7.5 miles away). We would definitely stay here again and will recommend to all our friends! read more

This hotel is in a good location- only a few minutes from Cannery Row and the Wharf. We stayed in a King Deluxe for one night. Hotel was very clean with the exception of our towels- two of them had visible dark smudges or spots. The walls were fairly thin, we heard pretty clearly the kids in the room next to us. Room had some nice decorations and we could tell it was cared for. The front desk staff who checked us on was very nice and answered our questions. Pool is small, there's a little corner smoking area with couches nearby. Soap/shampoo/conditioner provided are good quality! Would stay here again! read more

Don't much like the safety precautions set in the room for security. Door jam locks drilled into the trim. If someone wanted to kick in the door, that lock isnt stopping anyone from getting in. Bathroom door handles screws coming off along with very little done about loud guests as far as walking past or along side the rooms. I think cereal might be offered but can't say if it is or isn't since the person checking us in didn't say a thing about it. Personally the only positive is the location. You're not in the middle of Monterey but you are extremely close to everything else. For the price I'm a bit bewildered that it's 250 a night. What's the 250 for, strictly location? We stayed here for three nights to be able to attend a conference at Hyatt Monterey. Hyatt was unreasonably expensive just before the event season, therefore we chose this place. The price was uber unreasonable, we should have just booked Hyatt.. I did not have any issues about the room (second floor), however my friend had so many issues on the first floor.. Water was not running. When it started running, he could only have hot water. One night when we came back to hotel, he noticed his card was deactivated, all his cards..He spent half an hour to be able to enter his room in the middle of the night, by finding a receptionist on duty to make him new cards..Because of so many issues over three nights, he called Hotels.com and they offered a partial refund. The receptionist was apparently very disturbed about his complaint to Hotels.com and felt the urge to verbally fight with him on the day of our checkout, which was pointless.. This place was absolutely perfect for my family of 4... Our room was clean and just enough space for all of us without feeling cramped. The location is great, within walking distance of Dennis the Menace Playground. Cannery row was just a short drive away. The area we stayed in was quiet and easy to get a good nights sleep. The staff we communicated with were helpful and friendly... Highly recommend Stage Coach Lodge Monterey and would absolutely stay there again. read more

A decent spot . Don't expect the Ritz or Four Seasons, but it's a pretty typical hotel room. They have all the things you need and pretty much a typical hotel. Free breakfast is included, but it's pretty much toast and cereal, but hey! It's free! Staff is friendly enough and they have a pool, but it's pretty small. Very dissatisfied with this hotel. Booked the hotel on booking.com but weeks later received a message from them that I had booked during some local car show or something and my 3 night booking was void and I must now book a minimum of 5 nights and the price per night was now, literally, nearly 10 times the price I booked for. Never has this happened to me. Totally scummy. Response to hotel: There were no restrictions when I booked. Your hotel even confirmed my reservation in a separate email. You need to do your research and know when events in your area are to take place and price accordingly BEFORE listing your rooms as available. My opinion stands: Totally scummy. read more

This was our second stay at Stage Coach Lodge. When we planned a mini vacation in Monterey, we knew we would stay here again. The second stay was just as good as the first. Minus the free breakfast as before COVID times, but that's okay. Plenty of places to have coffee and eat breakfast in the area. Super clean and convenient location to downtown/Fisherman's Wharf. Smooth and fast check in process. A little noisy from our upstairs guests but that's not the fault of the property. read more

We had a perfect stay at the Stage Coach Lodge. We were only in town for one night, but we found the room spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. Our room was at the end of the hall on the second floor, so we didn't experience any noisy neighbors. The rates and location were great. We stayed for 2 nights. The lodge has a low star rating but has many excellent reviews so we decided to stay there because the great reviews and the price was reasonable. The most important was our room was clean and I was able to sleep. Easy check in & out. Free Parking. Front office has coffee, and a juice/drink machine. Only downside was there's no elevator and we were on the 2nd floor so we had to carry our suitcase up the stairs. Also no room service if you are staying for 2 nights but I was okay with it. We needed extra towels and called the front office. Room service person came within 5 minutes to bring the towels to me. Everything you need is in the room (iron, TV, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body liquid soap, refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave, safe, makeup remover pads) I would definitely stay at Stage Coach Lodge again. read more

*Hidden fee alert*!!!--Stage Coach Lodge will charge $25 for check-in after 10pm, which is not disclosed on their booking agent websites--their staff claimed it is disclosed on the booking agent website but I double checked their page and my confirmation email, the "late check in fee" was never mentioned at all. My booking agent website checked their webpage and acknowledged the late check-in fee is not written in the booking policy. Stage Coach Lodge really need to work with their booking agent on disclosure! Whenever I visited non-chain hotels, I always call the front desk before my arrival just to make sure someone will be there when I arrive. This time, when I called at 9:24pm on 8/17, I was told this fee--it was the first time this fee came to my notice. I was driving from SF and the ETA was 11pm. The staff said they would charge late check-in fee. I told them it is unreasonable because my booking never mentioned it, the staff said word-by-word "it is on our website, you should have checked our website. If you are booking through a third party website, Expedia, booking.com, the booking page states we charge a late check in fee" I asked if this fee can be waived because of the failure of disclosure, the staff denied on the call and said this fee must be charged. The staff's statement from the call is unacceptable--1st, if you are booking through a third party website, how many times will you check the hotel's official website after the booking? 2nd, it is hotel and booking agent's responsibility to disclose this fee prior to the booking. The staff should not lie that it was disclosed--even my booking website checked and confirmed the hotel did not write this in their booking policy! 3rd, it is not reasonable to have this late check-in fee at all--I visited so many hotels in so many places before, it is my first time encountered the charge of late check-in. Last time when I stayed in the Getaway in Carmel, the hotel called me via booking website because I did not check in when their staff was about to leave the property, so they would arrange key pick-up for me. After the cancellation with Stage Coach Lodge, I checked in past midnight in Monterey, this other hotel had their staff on site and did not charge late check-in fee. From my past experience and current experience in the area, this charge is very unreasonable. I called the booking website twice, first time was to request cancellation and refund. The booking website called hotel and told me the hotel very firmly turned down my request. Second time, I requested this $25 to be waived or whoever failed to disclose (the booking website or the hotel) should cover it. The booking website agent had a long conversation with the hotel (I was on hold for 16 minutes), and the agent came back told me Stage Coach Lodge chose to cancel my reservation--it was close to midnight and inconvenient to find another hotel, but I agreed to this solution anyway. I don't want a disingenuous business to earn even a penny from me. If you are going to stay in Monterey or Carmel, there are tons of hotels in this price range, no need to pick this one charging $25 to limit your arrival time. read more

Booked on a whim and glad we did. This is a very safe location, free and easy parking, spacious rooms and very clean! It's a no frills place but with 2 kids and always on the go it was perfect. Compared to the price of other mid priced chain hotels this place was by far better to stay in. The pictures are not deceiving. The only catch due to COVID is that they do not service your rooms. You can ask for extra towels, sheets and toiletries from the front desk. They also have a laundry you can use as well. We will definitely come back if rooms are available. read more

This bi-level motel is older but received some recent love and attention with well-appointed rooms featuring sturdy, late 1930s/1940s-era burled blond wood with upholstery in hues of brown and oxblood. If the furniture are replicas, they're outstanding. The decor reminded me of my grandmother's house, in a good way: the furniture's from a romantic, bygone era in America, full of hope after surviving the Big Crash of '29 with the sturdy optimism of a country buckling down during wartime. The mattress was ok but I slept well enough and loved the soft feel of the well-worn, all-cotton sheets. Mini fridge + microwave are handy amenities and the room had a new LG flatscreen. The bathroom badly needs some new lighting: putting on makeup would be challenging with the many shadows it cast. (You could easily exit as Pennywise the Clown if you didn't trust your sense memory or check in natural light). Because it's an old property, you can hear noise from the outside corridors and stairs. Some poor woman either had a bad seafood reaction or too much to drink. I felt bad for her. But, once inside our room it was mercifully quiet. The pool, with a quick glance, appeared to be clean and was tastefully gated with black wrought iron. So tiny though- maybe 1.5 times bigger than a round jacuzzi- I hesitate to call it a "pool." That it's across the drive's entry in a pocket corner of the parking lot made it less than inviting. Checkout is a ridiculous 11am but the owner agreed to a firm checkout at noon which worked. Stage Coach Lodge looks like one of the nicer mid-level properties in Monterey. By all means, if you have the cash stay at one of the 4-star properties near/on the waterfront. But, for a couple or family on a budget, this motel is A-OK. read more

Stayed for one night. Rented the King Standard Suite and was upgraded. It was mostly clean. Had a fireplace, tv, couch. Bed was fairly comfortable but a little stiff for my liking. The staff was friendly enough. Parking was right but not a deal breaker by any means. The pool looked comfy. It was smaller but clean. It was conveniently located. My guest thought it was a bit loud and had a mild stale odor. You can tell it's an older place but it felt mostly maintained. The shower head was old looking but was so nice! First, the best part about staying here is the couple who runs it (not sure if they're managers or owners). They were on top of everything and did the best they could to make the stay pleasant. Also super flexible - I had to change my stay and leave a day early. They helped me to be sure I could get a refund without having to be concerned about the 3 day cancellation policy. Rooms are clean and comfortable with a small frig and microwave. Wi-fi is free as is a continental breakfast (though I'd have loved some hard boiled eggs!). Coffee and tea are always available in the lobby as well as in the room. The location is excellent. Although it's right near the freeway, it's quiet. A minute (literally) to the Hyatt Conference Center and 5-10 minutes to excellent restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Stage Coach Lodge. read more

I booked reservations in March to reserve two rooms at the Stage Coach Lodge through Booking.com for a July stay. I had to cancel one room a few days befor our arrival. When we arrived they said they would need to charge me for both rooms and that Booking.com would reimburse me. I was tired from driving all day and accepted their explanation. when I tried to settle our bill upon our departure the manager "Ron" told me that they would not be reimbursing me for the other room even though they had no vacancies during my stay. They claimed that the reservation was "non cancelable". This motel is sorely lacking integrity and would not recommend doing business with them. read more

This place is a great, affordable place to stay in Monterey. It is very close to the wharf, El Estero park, and Cannery Row. The room was very clean, had plenty of amenities, the comfortable beds. My only issue was that the noise from the upstairs room was easily heard from my ground floor room. Overall I had an enjoyable stay and I would definitely would stay again. read more

Most of our stay was absolutely worthy of a 5-star review! We found this place while looking for a select-service, economical option for a quick weekend trip. The motel is in a really convenient location, near the freeway and close to Cannery Row, but it was also tucked inside a residential area, so it was very quiet. Check-in was smooth and easy, and the woman who helped us was very professional and accommodating. Due to the pandemic, all check-in is through the night security window. Normal housekeeping service is not available currently, but you can call the desk for requests. We requested an additional ice bag and it was delivered within minutes! The room was great. I think we saw older pictures online, so the clean, modern (recently renovated?) rooms were a nice surprise. Standard TV, mini fridge, and microwave all worked well. There is a really darling patio area and we probably would have spent some time there had the weather been more temperate during our visit. Here's the not so great part...when I went to check out, I was not provided a folio. From working in hospitality myself, I was a little surprised, as this is standard procedure to provide this to every guest upon check out. When I asked the gentleman at the desk if I was all set, and no incidental charges (again, it's select-service, so there likely wouldn't be any, but I was trying to be polite), he rather brusquely told me that he wouldn't know until housekeeping cleaned out the room and confirmed in a couple hours. Pretty odd response, but I just thanked him and we went on our way. A few minutes later, I receive a call from this gentleman -Ronald, I believe - informing me in very certain terms that he "knew" that we were vaping in the room. He went on to tell me that the room would be unsellable for 2-3 nights as additional cleaning would be needed, and that I would be charged accordingly. Excuse me, what!? Not only were we not doing anything of the sort, but we actually spend several minutes loading our car with our room door open, and even had a quick chat with one of the housekeepers walking by (who kindly asked us if we needed anything). It was very obvious that we were not vaping or trying to hide anything. We spent a few unpleasant moments speaking, with me calmly refuting this ridiculous, unfounded accusation, until he finally allowed that he would look into the "damages" and call me back in the next couple of hours. Unfortunately, he did NOT keep his word and call me back to apologize, or at least give me the courtesy of letting me know that there would be no additional charges. So there was a very bizarre, sour end to this otherwise lovely stay. Perhaps our check-out experience was just a fluke and he was having a bad day. It happens to us all. read more
