My experience with this shop was not the best due to the lengthy amount of time it took to repair my car, the general lack of communication and having to return my vehicle an additional two times as I was still having issues with the car after the repairs had already been made. I brought my car in the first week of June due to extensive and major engine damage. I was told the repairs would cost around $5,000 and take about 6 weeks. I agreed to have the work done. Three months later I had my car returned to me. This is twice as long as I was told it would take. During that time I received little communication regarding the status of my vehicle's repairs. As time went on I called more often as I became increasingly concerned with how long it was taking. I was consistently informed we were still waiting on a custom order part from the manufacturer but had no information on it's whereabouts or why it was taking so long to receive this part. Once my car was returned to me within a couple of days the fluid engine light came on and then my car lost all power suddenly. I had to return my vehicle to the shop to find out a part that should have been replaced wasn't and although Tom gave me a good discount to do the additional repair it was still pretty expensive costing me an additional $550. Once my car was returned to me I brought it back once again a week later due to the engine light coming on. It is now September...4 months later and I am still trying to resolve my car's engine issues with this shop after now paying $6,000 in repairs. Just took my 1999 Camry in because my engine light was on and I knew it wouldn't pass smog. They checked it out free of charge as any other place would for the initial machine hookup test. I got the codes PO171 and PO420. The owner (I assume) went down the list of things that possible would need for it to be fixed to pass my Star certified smog check. He quoted me $223.50 for an evaluation only. Just for the evaluation. I called around to a couple other shops, and nobody even came close to trying to rip people off like that. The guy was very nice. He wouldn't look me in the eye though at first. He did bring up the valid point that some places will quote a low diagnostic fee and pump up the cost to repair at the back end. Fair enough. This place is not Star certified this year though, according to the owner. Before the estimate, he told me he could take care of the engine light problem so that it would pass the Star smog check. It turns out, that is illegal for him to do so. His shop can be fined $1000 per incident for doing this. Once they know you require a Star smog check, they are not allowed to work on the vehicle to have it pass smog. I advise people to check elsewhere. read more

We are extremely pleased with this shop! Great professionals with a big heart. After failing smog, our truck was going to need extensive repairs that would far exceed what "cap" covered. Total repairs after the $500 cap took care of was $800! There was no possible way we could afford that, but Randy kindly enrolled us to another program that would help pay the costs and we only paid $82.00 out of our own pocket that was an amazing difference... **STAY AWAY!** WARNING OF THEFT! *** READ: I took my car here since originally there was an oil leak and was smoking... AFTER A MONTH they call me and tell me they couldn't open the hood and couldn't work on the car. Not only did my car sit there for 30 days and not get fixed, THE CAR STEREO WAS REMOVED AND STOLLEN FROM MY VEHICLE WHILE IN THEIR POSSESSION! When I called Tom, the owner to ask him if by chance they removed the stereo while trying to access opening the hood he told me no. I then told him my stereo was missing and there was now a big hole where my stereo used to be and it was clearly an inside job from an employee since there was no evidence it was broken into and the wires were neatly removed as they are the only ones with a key-I do not own a spare! He openly admitted since my car was there for a long time it was no longer secured on his premises and to deal with the Better Business Bureau (not him, the OWNER) if I had a complaint.. WHAT?!?!?!?! Are you kidding me? Not taking responsibility for stealing my stereo and telling me to file a complaint with a third party and not him directly, the car was in HIS POSSESSION, NOT THE BBB's!!! This shop is NOT in the best part of town, it would have been nice if I was given a courtesy call and told my car would be sitting out in the ghetto. Extremely disappointed and extremely unprofessional and negligent on numerous levels. :/ I had the vehicle transferred to the Dealership and within 30 minutes they opened the hood, no problem, car fixed and returned within a few days! Thank you Tom for a terrible experience. YOU are a prime example of gives auto shops a bad name and take advantage of customers, what a disservice! I have warned my entire community on our neighborhood website of my horrible experience and how you handled things so poorly and don't deal with your OWN business issues, rather have the BBB do it for you, PATHETIC! Since our community website is the one who recommended this business, Standard is now being removed from the recommendation list of Auto Repair Shops. Instead of doing the right thing and replacing what was taken from me while in your trust, you'd rather lose a community of customers! SAD. These guys are awesome! Randy and Roberta have some of the best Customer Service skills I have ever seen! I can't say enough about this place. They took care of my needs in a timely manner with good pricing and they are honest. I had another shop tell me that I needed all this work and decided to take it to Standard Auto Care for a second opinion. They told me that I only needed some of the items that this other shop needed. The price to repair was great and the :Lifetime Warranty" on the repairs was unexpected. Then when I pick up my vehicle (same day), they hand me a rose! WOW! A few days later I recieve a call asking me if everything is ok and if I have any concerns. No one does this. I brought my car in to be diagnosed on 06/07/2013. Mechanic found that the Idle Control Motor had burned out which caused the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to burn out. A couple weeks later the Service Engine Soon Light came on, but went off after a few days so I didn't think much of it. The car slowly over the remaining few months started to drive bad. I would press on the accelerator and the tachometer would rev up but the car wouldn't go. I finally took it to the Infiniti dealership on 02/03/2014. They found that the Mass Air Flow sensor needed to be replaced and a further issue of the incorrect ECM had been installed in my vehicle. They explained to me that there are two different ECM's for the vehicle. One with a Traction Control System (TCS) and one without. The ECM that was installed by Standard Auto Care was equipped with TCS, but my vehicle does not have that option. Infiniti replaced the ECM with the correct part. I then went to Standard Auto Care about the fact that they installed the wrong part. The owner and a mechanic then told me that there is only one ECM for the vehicle and you simply re-flash it to work with the car, and that multiple other companies like Dodge and Ford are this way. They told me that Infiniti lied to me to up-sell an unnecessary part. Which I verified by looking on-line at three different sites that for my make and model and years before and later they all have two options; ECM's with TCS and ECM's without TCS. The owner then went on to say that I didn't give his shop the chance to check it out and that it was under their warranty still. To which I explained that the part I requested they get when they supplied my options, was a used part, and used parts and customer provided parts are not covered under their warranty. I then went on to explain that I as a consumer are not required to come back and give them a chance if I feel they did an inadequate job initially and I needed a second opinion. The owner finished the conversation repeating the fact that it was under warranty, I didn't give them a chance to look at it, Infiniti was wrong, and that Standard Auto Care would not refund my money. Their mechanics clearly do not know what they are doing and the owner obviously does not know how to run a business if he is brought facts showing his employees installed wrong parts and refuses to return their customers money. read more

Picked my car up from here the other day. Got new tires and shocks and my car has stopped creaking and groaning! I've taken my car here several times and they always do great work. Plus they lend me one of their cars to drive while mine is in the shop, and that makes it more convenient to get my car repaired. Most importantly, the owner Tom understands that his customers are the most important part of his business and he does and excellent job of helping you to understand what is wrong with your car. He lets you know what needs to be fixed now and other things that may not be as important and you can put off for a couple of months. I always feel very comfortable taking my car here. read more

I took my pickup in for wheel alignment. That was the last thing that went fine. They did the wheel alignment and the 58-pt.check said I needed new tires, front shocks, and brakes in back (drums). I bought two tires, and Tom said they should go in front, and explained why. When I picked up the truck, the new tires were in back. No big deal. They came and took the truck back to the shop, rotated the tires and brought it back. After saving up for a month, I went back for the brake job (my brakes seemed fine to me). They gave me new wheel cylinders and "OEM" shoes for the drums. Later they said they turned my drums. That is debatable. $672.73. It was a terrible job! The E-brake wouldn't hold my truck on my driveway, and the brakes went quickly to the ABS with slight pressure. I took it back TWICE to Standard, then went to the dealer. They re-adjusted, and evaluated. Tom, the owner, did reimburse me for the dealer's labor. Back to the dealer to "re"-turn drums (they said they weren't done before), and long story short new OEM shoes, again. Tom, said, naturally the shoes were glazed, they had locked onto the drums and over-heated. Well, Tom doesn't that prove that you were faulty in my brake job?! Total cost for a simple rear drums brake job:$1,006.59! That does NOT include the $95 Tom reimbursed me for. Needless to say I am never returning there. read more

This is absolutely the worst mechanic to go to in Sacramento. The owner (Tom) is a real jerk, he has a nasty attitude over the phone and in person. A couple of years I took a car to him and needed to finance a repair, and while I was waiting for everything to be finalized I over heard him make a comment to his receptionist accusing me of giving him bogus information because he couldn't get it to go through on his computer, but not more than five minutes later the issue was resolved. I would not recommend this place to anyone, but if you go here, three things to avoid are Smog, Use of coupons, or financing, do any of those and he'll likely bad mouth you to anyone who will listen. read more

I was on a road trip with my family from Oregon to Sacramento. About halfway to our destination the car started to overheat. Called our mechanic in Oregon and he said to look at the oil dipstick and see what the oil looked like we saw that it looked like chocolate milk- water in the oil. Our mechanic told us to put bar's leak in and we made it to our destination. We took it to Standard Auto Care because of the convenience to my parents house. I told them what my mechanic had said- the head gasket. They said it was not the head gasket but the radiator. I wanted to make sure that a new radiator would really fix the problem. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash on an old car if there could be an underlying, undiagnosed problem like a head gasket. They assured me it would. I had to return to Oregon and had my dad pick up the car when it was done. After my dad picked it up, it overheated. He brought it back and there was a problem with a hose. They fixed that. It kept over heating and I finally limped it back to Oregon, filling the radiator with water. I brought it to my mechanic. Water in the oil, it's the head gasket. Big surprise. Our mechanic tells us nothing that they did on our car would have fixed the fact that there is water in the oil. While I know that it is difficult to be a mechanic and answers cannot be 100% all the time, I take issue with the honesty of this company. When I called to complain about my experience, the owner Tom said there is no mention of water in the oil in their mechanics records but yet they did all they could to check for a blown head gasket. Interesting. I find it hard to believe that they couldn't diagnose what my mechanic could from 400 miles away! While the staff is courteous, I don't feel like they ever listen to a word I said, before and after repairs.. While I don't know if my case is typical or just an anomaly in regards to this place of business, I do feel that it is my responsibility to make others aware of my experience. read more

These guys are great. They inspect my vehicle during oil changes. They do let you know what's needed. If you decide they will work with you to get your vehicle up and running smoothly. They preach preventative maintenance is the key. They were Outstanding when I bought a used 2001 F150 in Aug. 2013. Using them to inspect vehicles before I purchased. I have a nice used truck. Before you buy a used vehicle let Standard Auto look at it They will tell you what they think and show you if needed. They will help you get your money's worth they did for me. Everyone should try out this place but especially women who always worry that they will be taken advantage of when they take their car into a shop. Woman you won't feel this way here. They are awesome!! I had told my husband I was giving up the duty of taking the car to the mechanics because it stressed me out so much. I had a hard time understanding what was going on with the car and if I had to make a decision on what service to do I would have a knot in my stomache. That all changed with Tom the service advisor at Standard . He used visuals to explain things to me and I could finally understand what was going on and that my car needed the service. I hung around the shop and could hear Tom the service manager talk to other clients on the phone and I could tell he was trustworthy and had the wisdom to really take care of the clients first and not to just rack up a bill.
