We came here for lunch on a Saturday to redeem a youswoop voucher that my boyfriend purchased. Sat in the front by what appeared to be a garage door with windows that would be great in the summer. On a day where it's 30 degrees out, not so much. It was obviously closed but you could see the gaps where it's not insulated properly and the cold air was getting in. My boyfriend commented that he could probably stick his hand through there. After 15 minutes, I put my coat back and left it on throughout the meal. Can't attest to the temperature in the rest of the bar but I was wearing a sweater already and didn't want to bother with moving. I can't even imagine what it would be like in January. When the waitress came to our table, the first thing that I noticed were several hickies on her chest that she attempted to cover up with makeup. I know this is a bar but the impression it left with me was "trashy". Who wants to see evidence of last night's conquest? It's not just a reflection of her but of what management deems acceptable to represent their establishment. She appeared to be the only server in the place and was covering the 5 or so occupied tables. I had to ask the busboy for our check since she was busy behind the bar on her cell phone. If you're there to watch sports, TVs pretty much cover every wall so you can see several games at a time. The person asking for IDs at the door was friendly and the bartender piped in to recommend his preferred bloody mary mix when I went over to make my drink. The place does have some good specials ($5 mimosas and bloody mary bar) and our food was good. Typical sports bar set up in an area where you're gonna be given business even if your selling warm beer, biz just comes to you in this hood. Inside is definitely nothing special and you're greeted by THREE bouncers at the door.. at 6PM on a Saturday? Relax gentlemen, everybody knows this is nowhere! Young crowd and it's an LSU bar so there were many tables watching the college World Series. Decent beer list along with decent prices along with two bartenders with bodies that could stop a freight train and there you have it.. THE SPORTS BAR! I had heard good things about this place from a few of my friends so wanted to try it out. I was disappointed that my experience was not as good as theirs. I came with a girlfriend on a Sunday Afternoon when we wanted to grab lunch. Unfortunately they were still serving their brunch menu so I think the menu was a little limited since we were not looking for breakfast food. We decided to still stay and I settled on the Guinness Onion Soup and my friend got a salad. My huge complaint was that our food took at least an hour to come. That is ridiculous when you are just ordering soup and salad. The bar was not even crowded. The really annoying part was our waitress made no mention of it taking an hour for our food to come. I finally asked and she acted kinda surprised that I was wondering where the hell our food was!! However, I will say the food was good and they had a nice drink list. Really like this place!!! This is a sports bar??? I honestly had no idea!!! I hate sports bar, but this one I can totally dig!!! We decided on The Standard for a large gathering of friends a couple of weekends ago. The place is huge with tons of room at the bar or at the tables surrounding the bar. PLUS, they left a lot of room between the tables and bar for people to walk and stand...AWESOME!!! I HATE squeezing through a crowd to go to the bathroom!!! The bathrooms are A-OK in my book and not once did I have to wait in a line!!! The drinks are decently priced. The service is friendly and quick. The other patrons are chilled and fun! Some friends and I stopped in for dinner one night on a whim before seeing a play across the street at The Den Theatre. We entered with no expectations. It was just a conveniently located place to grab some food and have a few drinks before taking in a show. I must say, we were all pleasantly surprised. We sat down, were promptly handed menus, and, after perusing the menu, prepared to order. First, drinks. Maybe not the best beer selection, but still pretty good, with something for everyone. Next, food. I had the Triple B burger, medium rare, with sweet potato fries. It was fantastic! It was perfectly cooked, the caramelized onions and thick cut bacon were amazing, and the bleu cheese and BBQ sauce really made the whole thing sing. The sweet potato fries were the perfect pair for the burger. My friends also enjoyed their meals, even singing our dinners' praises after the play, on our way home from the theatre. Finally, service. Our waitress did a great job. She was pretty busy with a very large group that was sitting nearby, but she was friendly, prompt, and attentive. Honestly, I was a little unhappy when my friends, not knowing where to eat, said, "Let's just go there!" while pointing at Standard, but I am very happy that we gave it a try. The service was okay. She was helpful in finding a new beer when they were out of the beer we wanted. She didn't come around much, but she did provide good recommendations for food. Speaking of the food... I ordered the turkey club & it looked okay on the plate but the second I put it in my mouth I noticed there was barely any turkey and the inside was completely burnt. I wasn't impressed with my order, but the others in my group seemed to like theirs. It was very loud when we first arrived. The music was very "hip-hop" and I could barely hear my friend talking who was sitting right next to me. We went on a Sunday night so only one game was playing, but they had a ton of TV's and it sounds like it's a good place to go to watch multiple games at a time. Then the waitress tells us that these menus are brand new! She was confused with an order of 2 standard drinks...pun intended. We ordered an appetizer that never came out. When we asked the waitress about it, she was very confused. The standard burger tasted very standard, the pretzel bun I asked for was very soft and not pretzel at all. We went to Standard on a Sunday night for dinner and a few drinks (and to scope it out as a possible space for a future event). At that time of night, there were only about a dozen people there. The atmosphere was nice. The bar is clean and open and modern looking, with minimal crap (ie. neon beer signs) on the walls. The downstairs is spacious with tables, a large bar and a lounge-y area with couches and coffee tables. The upstairs is a large loft with another bar and more lounge areas--looks great for a private party. There are lots of TVs everywhere and I imagine this will be a great place to catch a game. It seems like they're going for a classy-sports-bar vibe. We sat at the bar, which is where I prefer to sit when it's just the two of us. The food was delicious for a "sports bar." We shared the turkey chili nachos and the roasted turkey sandwich. Both were great; visually appealing (which is a bonus with bar nachos) and tasty. The service . . . well, let's just say the bartender must have been hired for her looks because it certainly couldn't have been her personality or customer service skills. Our basic needs were met, but that's about it. I get that as a married couple, we're probably not her demographic to play to for a tip, but she seemed to be an equal opportunity offender, as she also ignored the two young guys sitting down the bar from us. In fact, the only time she showed an ounce of energy was when she was hanging out with the other employees at the far end of the bar. It would have been nice if she'd interacted with us a bit more, especially given that Standard is a new place and a positive experience could have sold us on becoming regulars. The bar-back, on the other hand, was quite friendly and engaged us in conversation. We'll probably give Standard another try because the food was tasty and it looks like a great place to watch a game. But next time we'll avoid the bar. read more

The sign out front is neon lit and you enter through a black covered door on the side. You could easily drive past the sign. The name says it all...standard. Nothing really stands out here from the food to the drinks. The music all night was good and the $35 3 hour drink package is a good deal for Chicago. If you book a party it comes with free appetizers and it really is a great deal along with the $35 drink special. The bad is they overbook parties upstairs and give you VIP wristbands. The issues is there is nothing VIP about being slammed with an overcrowded space into the couch benches along the side and having to push through crowds to wait in line for another drink. The temperature upstairs is way to hot where I even saw people fanning themselves and with full on back sweat. Drinks were watered down and I swear the shots I bought were 90‰ grenadine and a splash of liquor. Nothing about the experience would bring me back. Far to many options around unless you are there to pound drinks for 3 hours. Brunch is better than you think and has some good sauces (blessing) but don't get shrimp eggs Benedict if you want lots of shrimp. BUT $25 for food and unlimited mimosas, bloodys and miller lite! This past Saturday I had my birthday party booked for upstairs for two months. I contacted the bar first thing on Feb 8th to reserve the spot. Daniel, the manager got back to me and said they had space for me and asked what drink package I wanted. I responded right away and asked a few questions. Within a two month period I never heard back from him and I emailed him twice again with no response. I called the phone number provided on the website and Cale's twice and left voicemails with no return phone call. Finally, the week before my party someone answered the phone and said that I had upstairs reserved for Saturday the first and we were all set. I show up to the bar at 7:30 with quite a few people and was stopped going up the stairs. Someone else's party was up there and I found out I was shoved to the back. The manager was extremely rude to me and my friends. He said he never told me I was upstairs when clearly I have the email saying I was. He then came back and said he just emailed me a few hours ago, back from when I emailed him two months ago that I was al set for tonight. He comped my wristband and did nothing else for my friends and I. I was extremely disappointed with his attitude and how he treated us. I didn't want to fight with anyone on my birthday but I will tell you this, I will not be coming back to your establishment again which is sad because I used to come quite often. Very disappointing service on a slow night. Normally not a shade caster and support my local businesses, but consider this a call for action Standard owners. I'm writing this at the bar, while waiting for my to-go order. I placed the order and upon arriving 20 minutes later found out they didn't put the ticket through. 1. I had to ask the manager, who was hiding around the corner, what happened to the order rather than him be proactive and apologize and explain that it wasn't put in. 2. No one apologized. No one offered me a water while I waited or a friendly smile. Ultimately, a good thing I didn't ask for water. The waitress was filling water pitchers from the gun, when the manager told her she could use the sink, too which she replied, "that seems gross." If I had zero industry experience, I'd been gone. 3. When the order came out, they screwed it up. This time they offered to comp it. They put in another burger. They left me the tots, which were really salty. The original order sat on the end of the bar until the new burger came out and was inevitably cold. They comped 1 burger and gave us the extra so 3 for 1. The person that took the order apologized. 4. On the way out the manager said to have a good one still with no acknowledgement of the snafu. 5. No quality check. Got the food home. Burger bun was solid black charred and burgers were super well done and tasted like ash. Fries were too salty. 2 basic burgers ordered (no cheese, no frills, request for grilled onions and to put the mayo on the side), whole process took 45 minutes. And no water. read more

My fiance and I had our engagement party at the private upstairs room of Standard Bar & Grill and we could not have been happier with the venue. We researched dozens of Chicago venues and ran into a lot of problems with venues that couldn't offer private space, or wanted a minimum of $4,000 in drink/food tabs, or wouldn't let us combine a wrist band + open bar packages -- and Standard was the solution to all of our problems. The upstairs room was very nicely decorated, had private bartenders and bathrooms, and fit our group of 60 very nicely. Throughout the entire process, the manager, Dan, was extremely friendly and flexible and was so easy to work with. He was the "yes man" to all of our random questions and requests. We were also delighted that the service was excellent. The bartenders were beyond friendly and I literally had a drink in my hand within about 15 seconds of any of the bartenders realizing that I was empty. Dishes are standard, I would advise you to add new ideas to the menu, this could attract more visitors, and why not organize discounts when are holidays. Big fan! I think that Milwaukee is lacking sports bars, and I am super happy that this spot is close to my apartment. The food is great! I only tried a salad and the quesadillas, but they were both amazing. There are a ton of TV's and the night that I was in there, the Bulls won, so they gave me 23% off my tab. Helllllo...that helped. Manager immediately brought me a birthday shot as I arrived, and the server in the section we were designated was amazing!!!!! After reading the previous reviews, I was apprehensive about walking into Standard Bar and Grill. I had the expectation of receiving a combination of unpleasant service and drinks that had been watered down with a fire hose. Also, the idea my friend suggesting that we go to a sports bar in Wicker Park was, in my mind, comparable to attending a Fourth of July celebration in Bagdad. Thankfully all the aforementioned apprehension vanished when a friendly bartender (female) greeted us with a courteous smile, and thoughtfully and thoroughly ran down all of the drink specials, as well as the food specials for the evening. Throughout the evening she remained attentive and engaging with everyone at the bar. It was a party impromptu party, of sorts. I never found out whether or not the drinks were watered down, because I stuck to beer. But the bartender did offer some on the house shots. We ordered an array of food from the hot wings, sliders, a burger, and nachos, all of which were better than average bar food. Overall, I found Standard to be a clean, well-lighted place, meaning that it felt comfortable and welcoming in every sense of those two words. I will definitely be back. read more

Food: Good. Surprisingly good for a sports bar, especially the $5 quesadillas on Tuesdays. Yum! Service: Hit or Miss. (But is usually OK.) We've always had really friendly servers, but sometimes it's really slow because the place gets randomly packed. They could probably add a person or two on game nights to make everything flow more smoothly. Drinks: Good, albeit a little overpriced for a sports bar. My trivia team usually plays Geeks Who Drink trivia at The Ogden on Tuesday nights, however, it's been canceled a few nights lately on account of the hockey and basketball playoffs, so we've been hitting Standard instead. Ian, the quizmaster, is a nice guy but I think is often overwhelmed by the sheer number of douchey bros in this place. People are always arguing answers with him, clearly ignoring the "Don't fuck with the quizmaster" rule. Ignoring the rules is certainly a trend at Standard on trivia nights; cell phones out everywhere, teams of more than 6 people, etc. My biggest problem with trivia here is that there are SO MANY CHEATERS. People are shamelessly busting out their phones and very, very obviously looking up answers. This is totally different from the Ogden where there's a very strict zero-tolerance policy for cheating. It makes trivia way less fun when you're an honest team and you're up against a bunch of cheaty cheating cheaters. Overall, decent sports bar. If you're a cheater and need to do that to feel good about yourself, definitely do trivia here. Otherwise, find somewhere that cheaters haven't yet bastardized. read more

I have encountered rude bartenders in my many years of drinking but "Jordan" from Standard gets the gold medal. He was the rudest bartender any one of our group had ever met. We were in in Wicker for the festival this past Saturday and wandered into Standard for a drink since its my brother and his girlfriend's fav & most frequented spot in the neighborhood. Before we even sat down he asked us what we wanted and we said a specific shot. Well he went on and on how they don't have that shot and that people should just order what they have. And if they don't have it then the customer should drink whatever the bar has. Really??? How about the customer is always right? You know that saying most bars/restaurants go by. He was beyond rude to our faces. I wanted to leave right then but my brother ordered a beer to try and salvage the experience. "Jordan" pretty much ignored us completely after giving us our 1 round of drinks not even asking if we wanted a second. We didn't tip him because honestly his service didn't deserve a quarter and he literally yelled at us as we were walking out. Yelled! I couldn't believe it. Hello take the lack of tip to mean you are rude and maybe your service doesn't deserve one. I'm saying "Jordan" in quotes b/c the back of his shirt had that name but who knows if thats his real name. Either way Standard you shouldn't be employing bartenders who are downright rude to their customers. That's not how you do or keep business and we will never be back which probably won't make a bit of difference to you. But my brother and his girlfriend live down the street and each of them have hosted b-day parties at your establishment. I was here a few weeks ago for a "pre-wedding" party. To be exact, I was here on the night of Thurs, Sept 11. We rented the private bar upstairs (no deposit needed) and there were close to 40-50 people at any given time. There was more than enough room for this many people because there are plenty of chairs and lounge benches/couches against the wall. There are also plenty of TV's to get your sports fix in. I recommended a game to watch and they put it on for me fairly quick. In addition, they played good music. There were family & friends from Chicago and all over the U.S. (including some family from Germany) who came in town for the wedding that weekend. We also did a "premium" bar wristband deal and it was only $30-35. Folks, this is a steal of a deal when you're in the city of Chicago. We specifically had one bartender, Lauren, and she was awesome!!! She did not have any help in the beginning of the night (she was the lone bartender upstairs), but she was very patient and got to everyone who needed a drink. She was a delight to have as a server because she was interactive w/ those who were ordering food/drinks/shots, attentive, kept it very professional, but seemed like she had a lot of fun at the same time! She mixed the drinks really well (was strong and not watered down) and you can't ask for much more. When you are working by yourself, that's a lot of people to manage and in turn, she did not give anyone attitudes and was so patient w/ everyone there. A lot of times you get the complete opposite when a bartender has to deal w/ a bigger crowd and they get very impatient and start giving you attitude. I am not sure which bartender Laura A. talks about below in her review, but this certainly does not sound like Lauren to me. She was the complete opposite and did her job the way she's supposed to. Later as more family & friends started coming upstairs...she got the help she needed (from a guy bartender). They both made sure everyone had drinks and didn't make you wait very long. If the opportunity presents itself, I recommend you have Lauren as your bartender! She was one of the best bartenders I've ever had. She is amazing and is unquestionably the type of bartender you want to serve you!! Overall, the service was excellent to our entire party. We came last weekend for a friends birthday with a party of about 15 and were sat upstairs. I wasn't starving and was leaning towards the goat cheese/mushroom quesadillas. I asked the waitress for her recommendation and she said her favorite was in fact those quesadillas. Sweet! Ordered them. In the meantime, I ordered a Makers Mark on the rocks and a few friends followed suit. When the quesadillas arrived I was skeptical. They were super thin, basically two tortillas stuck together. But I grabbed one to try and my husband did too. Confused that we basically tasted nothing but tortilla we opened them up to find the thinnest schmear of goat cheese and maybe 4 or 5 mushrooms on the whole thing. My friends were shocked that they were charging $9 for this and told me to talk to the waitress. So I called her over and told her they were really bad and demonstrated the no-cheese quesadilla-ness of it by pulling apart the tortillas. She said "oh, it's usually not like that". Thanks, that helps me. She asked if i wanted something else instead and I said no. She took it away and I assumed was taking it off the bill since we didn't eat 90% of the plate. Nope! Not only was the food bad, the service was worse. We had a table of 15 people that wanted some drinks. But instead of trying to actually work, she just sat behind the bar chatting with the bartender while every single one of our drinks sat empty. After 15 minutes with no service and all empty drinks we literally had to go to the bar to get her to come to the table. We were pretty annoyed at this point so we decided to get the bill and leave. 1. The quesadillas were not taken off the bill 2. The Makers rocks were $11.50 a piece!!!!! I have no problem paying $12+ for a drink if it's a good drink (and do quite frequently at the violet hour). This was just makers on ice... give me a break. We will not be back. read more

I think my review mimics those of the prior reviews. Running a bar is not that difficult. I mean really, it all comes down to the service. When you don't have that, it pisses people off...and I was definitely pissed off. I came to this bar with a group of friends for a birthday party last Saturday. I was really excited to go here because I don't go out in Wicker Park all that often and thought this could be a cool change of scene. The bar itself is okay. It has a lot of TV's, so I guess its a good place to watch games and such. However, we were all pretty turned off by the service, specifically by this one chick who worked the upstairs bar. Our group was concentrated on one side of the bar area and so, we were limited to one-two bartenders who were serving on our side. The first was a guy who was the slowest...bartender...ever. An order took him an average of about 10 minutes to complete. I didn't get it. The second was a girl who was, and I'll keep things PG, a complete B. She barked at us when she asked for our orders and when we told her what we wanted, she threw them toward us and then went back to talking to her friends at the bar. She looked annoyed and all she did was talk to her friends. At one point, I yelled at her and asked if she even worked there. She also gave some of the guys in the group crap for not leaving a larger tip on their drink orders. I'm sorry, if someone orders $7 of drinks, you don't deserve more than a $2 tip. She apparently didn't think so and proceeded to tell them they were 'cheap asses' and even riled up her friends at the bar to call them cheap as well. I had lots of choice words that I wanted to say back but I didn't...I kind of felt sorry for her since this is probably the best she'll ever do for herself with that attitude. Hey if you like cheeseball top 40 music blaring, tons of watery domestic beer, and crappy overpriced food than I have found the place for you. It's called Standard bar and grill. I popped in for a friend's birthday and a chance to catch some of the Bulls playoff game with the Heat. Tons of brand new HD TVs and a sound system capable of broadcasting every squeak of the players shoes were nice, but watch out when a commercial comes on. Suddenly you have Big and Rich savin' horses and riding cowboys directly into your ears at levels that would make a ontolaryngologist (ear/nose/throat doctor) cry. I was starving and my general rule when ordering food at a new place is to order something simple because if the place can't make something simple then it sure as hell can't make something complicated. I opted for a cheese burger. I got a hunk of charred beef with some cheddar cheese. If there is a level beyond well done, then I got that. The fries were salty and soggy. The best thing about it was the half of a dill pickle. I have to give some props to the waitress who let me know to order before halftime. I am assuming it was because the kitchen would get slammed with orders and it would take a while to get my food had I ordered later. This place seems to play any nba game u can't find elsewhere. Nice. Wednesday's they have $1 off drafts and $5 burgers - it was decent, passable for a bar burger. Love the friendly and accommodating bartenders. Turkey nachos were...interesting - some odd star anise or mint hint to it - but it was fine, as is anything when u add guac sour cream cheese tomatoes, and it was HUGE. Stopped in here for the Bears vs Packers game a few weeks ago. It was a sad night for the Bears but the food was good (tater tots!) and the beer came out quick, with a great deal. Kind of just a "standard" bar, har har. But nice nonetheless! read more

Management / organization a this place is borderline horrible. I saw this place pop up as a new bar and thought it would be a great place to have my birthday party. I sent an email to the person listed on menu for party reservations ... No reply. I was walking by a couple of days later so decided to drop in and the waitress took my phone number and told me someone would give me a call ... no reply. I dropped by again and the guy says he never got any of the messages. He took my number down AGAIN and said he would call me in a couple of days ... No reply I understand if you are all booked up but communication is where you will get your reputation. Looks like this place will have the same fate as loft 610. read more

You might be an angry hipster who should get a job if you get fired up about a sports bar having the audacity to broadcast ESPN instead of Bones before a bulls game. The courtland burger is great and the bloody mary bar is exquisite. The staff has been nothing but courteous to me and I've actually received a free irish coffee and a free shot of jameson on both of my visits. I'm not an angry hipster wearing tight jeans so that might have something to do with it. A valid knock on the place is the obnoxiously loud top 40 music. You're a sports bar in wicker park, save that shit for lakeview/lincoln park. If this place had more chill music at a reasonable volume, it'd be perfect. read more

Nice patio nice televisions,great food, and nice looking bartenders. Not much else to say about this place . Another positive is that it is away from the bar chaos down the street at six corners. A ultimate place to watch sports and eat food that few know about. read more

I really like this place. It's located further east than the rest of the bars in the Four Corners area by Damen Ave. Used to be club 610 but now brings a sports bar to what is the middle of a pretty trendy area. The service is above average but the Sliders and Burgers are darn good. I recommend the pork belly sliders if you're a fan of bacon on burgers. On top of that if you live in Bucktown/Wicker park and like football this will be a great place to watch the games this fall! After coming to Standard for a few months I can honestly say its one of the better bars in Wicker Park. The staff is super nice and food is fantastic. Went to a friends party a few weeks ago in the upstairs area and had a great time, great service, good people. Its also a great place to watch some sports due to large amount of TVs, looking forward to watching to NCAA tourney there. read more
