I went here about 4 times. It opened early and had what we wanted. I got the cerezo egg wrap and my wife got the bacon egg wrap. They were good but maybe a bit dry. The small cup of sauce was nice. Make sure you grab one. I got a mocha. It was the right amount of chocolate. Service was good. read more

I came in for a quick cold brew after eating brunch next door. Haven't really tried much cold brew in my life, but standing passengers serves a tasty one. The place looks like a cool spot to drink some coffee and chill for a bit. The staff was friendly. Will definitely be returning for some more cold brew and perhaps some other drinks. read more

Cute space with console TVs and Atari-ish video games. Don't come for me, I wasnt a video game player in the 80's, but there WAS a table top PacMan. Baristas were nice, quick and made a good dirty chai. I had a bus to catch or else I probably would have hung out longer. read more

The coffee here must be astronomically tasty! (See what I did there?) Standing Passengers Coffee House serves really delicious Dark Matter Coffee and the menu offers many tempting options. We ordered the Vanilla Lavender and the Blueberry Lavender lattes. The vanilla lavender had a subtle lavender flavor which was nice. The blueberry lavender was sweeter and had a distinct blueberry accent to the coffee. Very refreshing! Next time we need to try a caramel toffee latte or the caramel apple latte. This place was exactly what I needed. After coming back from CDMX, I missed a good cup of coffee. They were serving Big shoulders coffee and it was really tasty. The cafe had video games and board games to keep the figity busy. Music wasn't too loud, so taking meetings was ok. They had an assortment of Do Right donuts even some sandwiches to keep that hunger satisfied. Over all it was a good visit with some great coffee. I hope to come back for another sip. read more

Awesome ambiance and friendly baristas! The Nintendo games and old school arcade art reminds me of Wormhole in Wicker Park, but with its own appeal. If I remember correctly, there's outside seating out back which is cool. Good coffee, although might be pricey for coffee. They have a free breakfast items too. They close at 7pm, which is early for me, and it would be nice if they're open later. It seems as though most coffee shops in Chicago have early closing times at 6 or 7pm. I recommend checking it out, and is on Chicago just east of Ashland. read more

4 stars : 2 for great coffee and 2 for the guy who made it- skillful and kind. Impressed with the foam he got using almond milk which often does not froth. The decor is nice, I really liked the art work. It seemed like not enough seating but maybe that's because there were plenty of people here- that's actually a good thing, that it's well liked. The minus 1 Star is because I made a point, as I often do, to ask that my cappuccino is made before my husband's espresso (so that his small espresso doesn't get cold while waiting for my capp) and I was a little disappointed that the espresso was made first. read more

I'm on this mission of exploring everything my new neighborhood has to offer. Standing Passengers is an adorable coffee shop with a chic, clean, artsy look in West Town. They have a good number of options and their prices are better than a lot of similar coffee shops in the neighborhood. Standing Passengers has some pastries including donuts from Do Rite if you need some substance to go with your brew. Drinkwise, they have a maple latte which is sweet & fun! It's summer though so I switch to cold brews to keep cool~ and they have two cold brew options. A delicious Dark Matter cold brew is offered in two sizes but they also have a Chocolate City cold brew on tap which apparently has double the caffeine. I'm all over that! Free Wifi! Good amount of seating! Great prices! Friendly staff! Wonderful drinks! I see myself coming here a lot in the future for solo work sessions, having a nice place to read a book and just generally getting my caffeine fix thanks to their frequent visitor card. read more

I've been coming here since they opened after a slew of other coffee shops in the same spot fell victim to no customers. I love the inside of this place and the people who work there are super fun. My husband thinks this place has THE best latte in the city. And as a roofer who drives to the boundary lines to the city in every direction, tasting lattes every day, that's saying something! It's the perfect place for work and play -- there are tables/chairs for sitting down with your laptop and cranking out some emails, and couches/games to let your inner kid out for some pac-man or N64. The drinks are also delicious and the lattes come in a variety of creative flavors. I ordered a blueberry lavender oat latte the last time I came here, and it was the perfect amount of flavor without being overly sweet. And I love dark matter coffee, which is another plus. This review may be biased because I visited Standing Passengers on the first beautiful, sunny day in a very long time. The entire store front are windows so there's plenty of sunshine streaming in. If that's not enough for you, there's also a small patio area in the back. The coffee shop feels light and clean with light-wood throughout and one low couch and restored pallet table corner against the far wall. In addition to smaller bistro tables, there is one long community table and even a small children's play area in the front nook. I like the difference spaces available. It wasn't too busy when I stopped in. I'd say Standing Passengers is great place to get some work done and/or enjoy some beautiful art pieces that cover their walls. read more

I don't know about you, but I thought the name, "Standing Passengers," is catchy in my opinion because I commute via public transportation. The West Town portion of Chicago Ave. has no shortage of indie coffee shops (Asado, Atomix, and Star Lounge), "Standing Passengers" is a newer addition located near the Eckhart Park. I love their minimalist decors. It's similar to how my living room looks without the commercial espresso machine. SP also serves as an art gallery. I was sipping my coffee while appreciating these creative pieces on the walls. They keep simple on their coffee menu. However, more drinks are available upon request, as noted with the asterisk. I believe they outsource the pastries from the West Town Bakery. The choice the coffee beans is from our Chicago's very own "Dark Matter," which makes perfect sense since the roasting site isn't too far (near Chicago and Western). The barista was pretty chill and played good music with nice grooves. SP seemed to be doing quite well. I could see many neighborhood residents who stopped in for getting their coffee to-go. I anticipate that they get booming during summer when most people don't mind being standing passengers on the streets without having to endure the cold. read more

Simple, no nonsense coffee shop. I came here to take a work call before an event and it was a great place to do so. The music choices were awesome, and I could still concentrate/hear my call. Also the chai latte and chocolate chip scone were bomb. The only minor drawback was that the girl working the counter was not particularly friendly. This is an excellent neighborhood coffee shop. Their drip coffee is strong and absolutely delicious. There are large tables where you can sit and get work done. All the seats were taken my people "studying" (maybe they were, who knows) so... but whatever, not a big deal. This place is kinda a bad joke. They treat coffee like it's some epic adventure, but they don't roast their own coffee, and what they do sell is other local brands, watered down. Customer service is not helpful or communicative. The owner, who fancies himself an artist with his Jerry Garcia and Chicago flag skateboard "paintings", doesn't know much about coffee either. Best to avoid and go a bit further West for authentic Dark Matter coffee. It's sleepy, and there is hardly ever anyone in there. read more
