This visit was one of our best we do go here occasionally and I've always had very consistently good food usually a quick stop before we head back to Seaside. Today I had the portobello mushroom with greens topped with fried leeks and it was nothing short of amazing. So good. Marinated in olive oil ,garlic, soy sauce, Rosemary and numerous other items the chef shared with us. After trying a few other places in the area without much success, this is one we will always go back to.. years ago it got really expensive, but as far as lunch and happy hour go it's very reasonable... my portobello mushroom was only 7.95 and it was so filling fresh and flavorful it could have been shared easily as an appetizer for 4 people and was exactly as described. I stopped at Trader Joe's before going home to pick up one of those huge Portobello's so I can try to make one at home! Great job to the Chef and crew... so many times you read the menu and it sounds so good but you get something that's nothing like you expected. read more

My wife, a friend and myself were excited to have dinner at Stanfords after the previous one year shutdown. We showed up around 5:30 PM on a Thursday to approximately 1/3 occupancy. It took about 5 minutes to seat us and another 10 minutes for the waiter to take our drink orders. The food and drinks were typical Stanfords affair that we are accustomed to. Decent steaks and veggies. Unfortunately the new food and drink pricing almost doubled from our last visit. $225 included dinner for 3 people and 4 drinks. Tip was on top of the $225. read more

I came here thinking I would get quality food. The salmon is not wild, it's farmed. Farmed has 10 times more toxins. The salad was iceberg lettuce which is mostly water, not a lot of nutrients. When we go to a higher end restaurant I expect healthier versions like spinach. I understand the menu was reduced but that doesn't mean quality should suffer. read more

My mom, my Nana and I stopped in here after a day at the mall and we went in there at about 8:50 PM and they closed that night at 9 PM and they were totally cool with us coming in that late. We were one of the last people to go in there for the night and the service was excellent. Our waiter was amazing, I forget his name ha ha, but he was so patient and very nice and funny. My mom and my Nana both got salads that they enjoyed them a lot. Their salads were really big and they wish that they shared one ha ha, but I got the mac & cheese. I'm pretty sure it was the bacon mac & cheese but I forget the name. It was a very unique taste but in a very good way. I was on vacation when I visited this restaurant but now I wish I had a Stanford's near where I live because it was so great. Also the environment is just great, the interior design of this place was so aesthetically pleasing. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're nearby. Really nice staff, great french fries, wonderful halibut ruined by a terrible herb? laden batter. The Cole slaw was pretty awful, as well. Great crab cakes, tho. My bet would be that their halibut fish n chips would sell more if they took all the horrible tasting black flecks out of the batter and called them English Style Beer Battered halibut. The batter is light, crunchy, not oily, adheres really well to the fish, but the herbs? just makes it taste bad. Pieces without the flecks taste absolutely yummy, but then the next bite is yuk. read more

I just wrote a negative article for a restaurant and realized it was my only review. I hate it when I see folks who only write negative reviews, so I'm gonna lay a couple good ones down: First, my family usually goes there for the steaks and we rarely order from the rest of the menu. We pretty much get the following, without variation: Steak (Ribeye, Prime Rib, Filet Mignon), Caesar salad (sometimes full order, sometimes side), baked potato, and asparagus. We've been there nearly 20 times in the couple years I've lived here, for both take-out and dine-in. We've never had a bad meal or bad service. In fact, 90% of the time I'd say the service was excellent. The other 10% the service was above average. The baked potato, it's strange to say, is exceptional. I mean, it's a baked potato, how can it be that good? I don't know. They roll it in oil, salt and pepper and the outside is a little crispy and the inside is fluffy. But it's all delicious. The steaks have always been properly cooked to order. My wife gets rare and I get Medium-Rare and we've never thought it was over or under cooked. The Caesar salad, also, is amazing. Very tasty. And on the occasions when I'd get clam chowder or the mother-in-law would get fisherman stew, we were both very pleased with the outcome. We'd also always have leftovers as the portions are sizeable. Terrible food. Terrible service. Nice waitress but she couldn't help the bad food. I had a pulled pork sandwich that was so huge and messy with greasy skinny onion rings and decent coleslaw on top. But the meat was so dry that even the barbecue sauce the waitress brought wasn't good. She told me she heated it up and that usually helps. What did she mean? Helps the dry sandwich or the bad sauce? The bun was too small for the huge amount of topping. They used to make fabulous fries but not anymore. These were cold, soggy, greasy, and low quality. My husband said his pizza was mostly dry crust with low quality sauce, cheese, and toppings. We will not be returning. It used to be our go to restaurant. Very sad. read more

This isn't my first choice as the food and service is inconsistent depending on when I would come in. Some days the food and service is on point. Other days the food will come out lukewarm or bland and the server will be forgetful to refill water or check back in on us even if it's not busy. Maybe they were new? Because of these past few visits, I prefer to go to Copper River or eve. Red Robin right across the parking lot. Even if RR's service isn't always on point, at least you aren't paying as much as you would at Stanfords for that inconsistent of a dining experience. Randomly popped into the bar on a Sunday afternoon for a quick Bloody Mary and cup of coffee. Watched some football, had a very nice waitress who charged my friends phone. My friend said her margarita was very sweet, but so it goes. The restaurant itself was quiet, I see why these are shuttering up. I have really enjoyed this every time I have been. I think the price point can be a little high and several reviewers have noted that but the food is excellent and service has always been good. Perhaps there is a bit of a disconnect because the ambiance and pricing suggest a fancy steakhouse but the food options can be a bit more populist. But I love that! A high end steakhouse might not have onion rings or chicken tenders on the menu, but those are both very very good here. I got a ribeye steak first time and it was cooked great and I am a steak person. It came with crispy potato wedges- not the fanciest but again quite good. There was an assortment of cocktails, which I like to see. The next time I got ribs, which were also great. And yes my wife loved the chicken tenders. We did spend a lot for what I guess you could say was a higher end Claim Jumper but I was very satisfied with it and will go back. read more

Disappointing! WOW! I don't think I have ever in my life had such poor service at any restaurant ever as we did last night at Stanford's. First, it took us FOREVER to get a table. We were quoted 20 minutes, but it was closer 45-50. I finally went to the hostess stand to ask how much longer, and coincidentally we were next on the list. Once seated, it took about 15 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge us. We just sat there ignored, without even a glass of water Once the waitress came by, we ordered beverages and we asked her about their rib special we had seen in a promotional email (there was no mention of the special on the menu or on any of the table tents or anything, so we weren't even sure if they were still doing it or not). She proceeded to rattle off the specials for us. I had to prompt her for the price. There's nothing worse than a waitperson telling you all about their specials and they don't tell you how much they cost. Irritating. Anyway, after placing our food order (a sandwich and some seafood skewers - pretty simple). We proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. At one point, our waitress dropped by our table to refill our water, and my husband remarked, "you're pretty busy tonight, huh?" Our waitress took the hint and said she would check on our food to see if it was almost ready. By this point, we had been sitting at the table for over 45 minutes, and were super-hungry. Even though the prices here are very high for what you get, you don't even get a complimentary basket of bread or crackers or anything. Nothing. After our waitress offered to check on our food, we kept waiting. She walked by our table twice, and didn't make any eye contact with us, nor offer an apology for the wait time, nor tell us the food was on the way or anything. She just walked on by, ignoring us, while we sat and waited some more. At one point, after sitting and drinking water for nearly an hour, I had to excuse myself to go to the ladies room, and was hoping I would run into some kind of management on the way there just to tell them how miffed we were about the entire experience. All I saw was the host, who was just a very young man, with apparently no authority; all he could offer me was a comment card. I used the ladies room, and took the comment card back to our table to fill out. Wen I got back to the table, there was still no food there, and my husband was putting on his coat, and told me we were leaving. Apparently, he had been keeping his eye on a table behind where I was sitting, with more people than we had. He said they were seated after we were, and had already been eating their meals for a while. He just decided enough was enough and we were not waiting around any more.. We got up and left, and on the way out, I told the host we were leaving. It was obvious we were upset. Once we left, our waitress came running after us and offered us some coupons to come back. My husband looked at her and said, incredulously, "you think we want to COME BACK here?" She apologized, and that was that. Overall, we wasted two and a half hours between waiting for a table and waiting for our overpriced food which never arrived. If we ever go back, it will be a VERY long time from now. read more

Oh Bravo on your desserts. Before happy hour started I had their deep fried candy bar sundae.. oh hells to the yeah.. mama likes!!!! My friend and I were pretty impressed- even more so with the presentation, we just thought it was going to be plopped down on top of ice cream. Not so. My brother also enjoyed it with us and he usually despises sweets. The happy hour was ok. The deviled eggs with shrimp and bacon and hollandaise sauce sucked.. so bland, it tastes like you're eating a plain hard boiled egg with crap on top. The calamari, overcooked. The chicken tenders and fries were good enough, atleast the chicken was really moist and tender. My bloody mary was not too shabby either... almost as good as the one I adore at Veritable Quandry. I think this place is waaaaay better than applebee's and chili's so I don't know what the hell some people here are talkin about. I only give 1 star because Yelp wouldn't let me give zero stars. This place needs a a whole new cooking staff and needs to get rid of a really bad waitor. I ordered the Valentines special, sirloin steak and lobster tail. Never in a steak house have I ever had my steak delivered already sliced into 4 dry burnt pieces for me. It seriously looked like some other tables left overs thrown on my plate. It was ordered medium rare and was covered in some brown sauce to cover up the fact that it was burnt. My daughter ordered and adult burger, cooked med, which I think should be juicy with maybe a very small amount of pink in it. The burger was bubble gum pink through out and looked like the outside was just browned real quick. Raw burger, gross!! The famous 12 Oz ribeye was more of a 7 Oz diner style steak. So needless to say, I didn't complain but asked a waitress (not ours) who packed up the burger if it should be that red. She said it looked a little Pinker than normal and suggested I order med well next time. I said OK and was very nice, and that was the end of it. That was it until our nut case waitor came from the back, and a loud an rude tone says " I heard you had a problem with the burger. Why don't you tell me what color YOU think a burger should be!" He was so rude and nasty and loud. Omg... he was so defensive when I wasn't even talking and very hostile.. I couldn't believe it, told him not to make a scene. I walked out shocked and pissed. I did call the manager and she was nice and took care of us. Never again will we go back, that's for sure. I do not recommend this place at all. My husband and I have been here several times and it has always been generally a good experience. The wait can be long (though we have gotten in the habit of calling ahead, so it's not usually bad at all) but we've always found it to be worth it. We even had a server from the bar come out and take drink orders from us while we waited. Oh, and they have an excellent selection of wine and I recommend trying the blood orange mojito! We've never had a bad server, though some are better than others. We have had to track down our waiter on a couple of occassions. Also, I have never been asked if I wanted a drink refill. I don't know if that is there policy or something, but it does seem a little odd. The food has been consistently good. Especially the seafood and desserts. Last time we were there my husband ordered a smore dessert that was just heavenly. My one complaint is that you can't just get a cup of soup anymore, which seems odd. They also don't have many starters on the dinner menu that are not seafood. Which is bad for people like my husband who hate seafood (but good for people like me who loves it). In general, it's a good place to go for a special dinner. But expect to drop $80 for two people. read more

The drinks are strong but expensive and taste like they're made from the cheapest liquor they could find. The service is the real killer though. My husband's family was in town from Pennsylvania to visit our new little girl, and despite having never been, we took them here for our last dinner before they went home. We had no trouble with our 5:30 reservation for six people, with room for my daughter's car seat. It took some time for the waiter to return for our food orders after bringing our drinks, even though the place wasn't terribly busy yet at that time. Our waiter was attentive, gracious, and friendly without being obsequious. However, he did bring my brother in law the wrong type of steak and he forgot someone else's salad all together. The food was excellent - especially the steak and crab cakes. The soup of the day was a creamy tomato basil and the basil was clearly very fresh; it was wonderfully aromatic. The mashed potatoes were a little dry, but seasoned well. Our cocktails were all very tasty. I ordered one of the ginger pear martinis, which was sweeter than I was expecting but still delicious. For my second cocktail I got the basil gimlet, but asked them to make it with vodka instead of gin and to sugar the rim (which turned out to be unnecessary as this drink was also sweeter than I was expecting). The drink came exactly as ordered, and like the soup it had very fresh minced basil in it. So yummy! After dinner, I ordered a decaf doppio con panna, and though the waiter was unfamiliar with the "con panna" term (it wasn't on the menu), he listened carefully to my explanation and returned with a really excellent cup of espresso. I imagine the beans must have been freshly ground and never frozen, as it wasn't at all bitter. Overall, this was a lovely and warm dining experience with only a couple hiccups, and I would happily go again for a family affair. read more

Had a great experience for my first visit to Stanford's. The service was awesome! I sat in the bar and was served by Eric. He took care of me as well as pointed me in the direction of what to eat. 5 star service without a doubt. The food was good as well. They have good deals for happy hour and I ended up getting a few appetizers rather than an entree. I had the chili con carne which was good, but not out of this world. It was a pretty decent chili and I would consider ordering it again. The cheeseburger sliders were just ok. Not bad by any means, but not fantastic. They put a cheese sauce on them instead of regular cheese and it kind of threw me off, but depending on your taste you might love it. I also had the bacon Mac and cheese which was incredible! What does Uber have to do with the quality of their food? FAILURE!!! The food has gone downhill. It's probably been about 6 months since I have eaten at this location. They changed the menu, recipe and presentation....and not for the best. Menu use to be high quality food at a reasonable price. Now, it's below average food at a high price. Not only has the food and drink prices increased by 20%, the food quality tastes like cafeteria food. They are putting sub-par items on the menu. It use to be fancy stuff like seafood skewers on a bed of saffron rice. Now, it's pork and fish tacos. Really? $3.25 for luke-warm tea? It use to be $2.50. Water prices must go up like fuel prices. Presentation is less than desirable. Putting a bunch of heavy chicken strips on fries means a bunch of smooshed fries. It use to be side by side on a simple white plate. What's wrong with simplicity? Recipe has no flavor and chefs have butchered these simple dishes. How can you mess up on chicken strips? Well, if you over fry the chicken so it's try, and do not season the chicken or batter, it's going to suck. The pork was dry as hell on a tortilla. How can you have tacos with no salsa, guac, or sour cream. It was too plate for $10. Let's raise the bar here...STANFORD! STANFORD has been downgraded to Portland Community College. read more

Three times now, at happy hour, my group of 5 has been served two rounds of drinks (after 10 minutes of empty glasses), and then our bill is just dropped off and the server vanishes. Vanishes, never to be seen again. Is there some sort of two drink maximum here? By that point, happy hour is over and we're okay with that, still want to have another drink or two. And no, we're not a loud or drunk group, just coworkers just off of work. We order food too; we're spending $100 at least just during happy hour. It's rude, presumptive, and just plain bad service. I'll confess I've been a fan of this place since they opened in the late '80's. While they had some ups and downs from a menu perspective (Fried pickles? Really?) they've learned from their mistakes. The spinach-artichoke dip is a food group, all of itself - creamy and tangy; it's the stuff by which others are judged. The crab cakes are, in spite of being on the appetizer menu, a meal-size portion which satisfies the crab-jones, and then some. The burgers are consistently the best in town - and their chicken or salmon Caesar salads will hold their own in any five-star restaurant. I don't drink, so the alcohol aspect is a bit lost on me - but dining in the bar (if you can find a booth; they fill up quickly) is just as good as holding out for a spot in the dining room. You'll leave satisfied if you remember the following: (1) They're always busy. Show up early, or call ahead; (2) If they're busy, count on the kitchen being slammed, and plan accordingly; (3) Parking is at a premium, since some new retail was put in where additional parking used to be. I didn't give this place five stars, because it *is* a bit pricey - and there are still some service inconsistencies they need to work out (short-staff and overlong waits for food.) Still in all, it's a great value, and one of the best places on the far west side. read more

When going to Stanfords its all about the happy hour. It is worth frequenting, especially when it goes all day Sunday. It can get busy, but that is expected at dinner, in the bar when there is a game on, and there is awesome cheap food. The rewards card and promotions they run in house/via email make it well worth my time. Happy hour for two even with drinks is so reasonable anyway. Unless I splurge for the fish tacos, which even at $18 is worth rewarding myself occasionally. Always have encountered friendly staff, great atmosphere. read more

The problem is sometimes the macaroni (one of the better HH dishes) comes out like an unappetizing noodle soup because they didn't let it reduce. Yuck! Stanfords - I've been here almost a million times now but somehow never got around to write a review for this place. I have never once had a bad experience with this place. The food has always been great, the drinks have always been good and the service has been excellent. The grilled halibut is their best item that I have found on the menu . I usually replace the side of the pasta with their cilantro basmati rice which is really awesome and makes the dish taste even better. Their steaks and the halibut sandwich are great as well. As for the drinks, try any drink they're all equally good. And their cremebrulee is to die for! Anyone who hasn't been here should definitely visit at least once. read more

We ordered fish tacos and fish and chips. I don't think we found any fish in the tacos. It must have been so tiny that would could not find any fish buried in a ton of slaw. The fish and chips were even more pathetic. 3 tiny shriveled pieces of "halibut" for $15. With the size of the fish I would honestly feel $7 would be overpaying. Maybe the larger entrees were better but for value and overall quality this is a MUST MISS. ...and it's a chain so it is already demoted a full star to begin with. Chains suck. read more
