We ordered fish tacos and fish and chips. I don't think we found any fish in the tacos. It must have been so tiny that would could not find any fish buried in a ton of slaw. The fish and chips were even more pathetic. 3 tiny shriveled pieces of "halibut" for $15. With the size of the fish I would honestly feel $7 would be overpaying. Maybe the larger entrees were better but for value and overall quality this is a MUST MISS. ...and it's a chain so it is already demoted a full star to begin with. Chains suck. read more

What does Uber have to do with the quality of their food? Four stars for awesome all day happy hours! No but in all seriousness, my parents and my childhood home is just a hop skip and... A jump? Ah yes a jump from this restaurant. I've been more times than I could count but until I was 21, this restaurant would only get 2 of my stars. What you say? 2 stars? Yup. Basically the food is great, but the prices are quite high. I have had their macaroni and cheese - normally a 15$ meal but if you are over 21 and can order up happy hour it's a mere 4.95$. I mean really? Granted of course the portions are smaller- but I end up usually taking a box home for dinner. So. Do try the half sandwich and salad- I had the BLT- do it. The bacon is amazing and flavorful. Do sample everything on the happy hour menu. Do have a nice tasting cocktail. Do eat the fontina Mac and cheese. Definitely try the grilled mushroom with the basil aioli. I'd say avoid the fish tacos. And a word from a regular: Sunday is all day happy hour. Iv never had that happen before at any place Iv been to so it was just kind of surprising because this place looks so nice. "Stanford's, we're back." That's what the annoying commercials on the radio keep telling me. I don't know if they're "back", but they're certainly on I-5 at Castle Rock filling up the tank on their way back. Two disappointments here . . . first, the hostess sat us right across the aisle from a full table that had two kids in a nearly empty restaurant (we were there in the middle of the afternoon, I didn't expect it to be busy) . . . second, the cheesy bread that said radio ad claimed to be the original famous cheesy bread was not nearly the same. It was good, but it wasn't the same as it used to be. Negatives aside, it was better. They've made good efforts at getting back to where they used to be. Last time I was there, I felt I was paying twice as much for half the quality of food. This time, the prices were more reasonable, the food better (the salad was yummy) and the service decent (yes, the waitress, not the hostess). I like Stanford's because of the peaceful, quiet (non-Red Robin) atmosphere. Now that the food is better and the price lower, going here for the atmosphere is a possibility again. read more

I have really enjoyed this every time I have been. I think the price point can be a little high and several reviewers have noted that but the food is excellent and service has always been good. Perhaps there is a bit of a disconnect because the ambiance and pricing suggest a fancy steakhouse but the food options can be a bit more populist. But I love that! A high end steakhouse might not have onion rings or chicken tenders on the menu, but those are both very very good here. I got a ribeye steak first time and it was cooked great and I am a steak person. It came with crispy potato wedges- not the fanciest but again quite good. There was an assortment of cocktails, which I like to see. The next time I got ribs, which were also great. And yes my wife loved the chicken tenders. We did spend a lot for what I guess you could say was a higher end Claim Jumper but I was very satisfied with it and will go back. read more

I like Stanfords, I do. Their Happy Hour is one of the best for the area. Wine down Wednesdays - half off bottles of wine...not a bad deal! $4 wells/beer/wine during HH. OK Food = pretty good. There are certain items that are excellent, while some disappoint. Their Portobello Mushroom - you MUST have this. Whatever it is marinated in is friggin excellent. The wood-fired chicken quesadilla was very good and very filling. It tastes fresh and with the addition of blue cheese and chipotle sauce it has a bit of a kick. YUM. Salads - ALL of them. Not good. Tasted rather plain and looked almost like it came out of a bag with a few things sprinkled on top. I would steer clear of these. Chicken strips - again, not tasty. You get two very small chicken strips that are oily and overcooked. The fries were soggy. The BBQ and Honey Mustard sauces were WAY too sugary and sweet. Eww. No thanks. Their burger is pretty decent and good for the money value. Ordered a whiskey sour as my well drink of choice. First one came out with so much sour mix I almost couldn't drink it. Second one was alright. Their Banana's Foster drink, although decent, it had tasted like they forgot some of the liquors. Overall the experience is good. Our waitress when we first sat took long to get to us, but afterwards it was fine. Slightly disappointed in the food and drink taste but oh well. read more

Great atmosphere for a Friday/Saturday night with friends. Happy hour is probably the best time to go. Drinks and apps are approaching a reasonable cost for what you get. I came here for lunch with a friend and had the citrus salad. It was filled with a variety of fruit and some greens with a good dressing. The salad was fine, but I felt a little pricey for the portion and the taste. The service was really exceptional! The ambiance and the service made me feel like I was eating at a Ruth's Chris steakhouse. I'm glad I tried it, the service was amazing, but there wasn't anything that caught my attention. So I come here for 3 things. Brunch is zzzzoooooommmmgggg. Really good the eggs Benedict and country breakfast just makes my taste buds go Wilde. You also get a cinnamon roll when you get brunch on sundays. Secondly, the happy hour is good and there food items are very good. Drinks are drinks, they are decent for happy hour. Lastly, the ribs, so I was craving ribs and I usually go to famous Dave's because it's the only place I know local but I was feeling lazy and wanted something close so I saw they had ribs. Sheesh, these things were to die for the baby back rub meat fell of the bone and it was really good, for me I'll go back. Ch-ch-ch-changes: between 3 and 4 stars. Stanfords happens to be situated perfectly in the middle of my in-laws house and ours. The food doesn't suck, and the atmosphere is nice, which means we meet up here often for Happy Hour or dinner on occasion. The bar fills up by 5 for HH, so have a light lunch and take advantage of the pretty great eats and drinks. They have a nice patio open for seating during the summer months. The service can be a little dicey in the bar, snail-paced slow sometimes and great at others. I have to name drop our server from yesterday, who gave us the best service we've ever had in the bar: Thank you, Carinda! Super professional, attentive, and friendly. The service on the restaurant side is always very good. As far as the food goes, HH is definitely a steal of a deal. I usually opt for one of the salads (they're a side salad size, but have filling ingredients) and steal a slice of my MIL's chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla is really good, and comes with fresh-cut, chunky guac. Their burger is supposedly quite good, and the artichoke dip is A-OK. Dinner can be a bit pricey, but it is always very good. I really like their chicken and a shrimp stir fry that I'm still sad is no longer on the menu. The fluctuation in stars is purely based on the inconsistent service. I have been to Stanford's many times before and usually have a good experience. Yesterday, I took my mom there for Mother's day. She loves their happy hour! We got there shortly after it opened around 11:30 and sat in the bar. After sitting down we saw a note on the table that said that there was no happy hour today, it was replaced with a special Mother's day brunch menu. This was a little disappointing. My mom had called two days earlier to make sure happy hour was all day on Sunday and she was told that it was. I also had checked the website and didn't see anything about the change. We had to wait a little bit to even get waters and the bar area wasn't busy at all. I know the restaurant was though, so maybe they were backed up from that. When the server came over he made it clear that he couldn't change anything on the menu. No substitions, no additions, nothing! The menu, as you see it, is what you get. OK, we got it the first time you said it! What we really wanted was the mac and cheese. We decided to split it, since we know the portions were huge! When it came out, they had split it into two dishes for us, which we were really grateful for. The mac and cheese was as delicious as it always is! So creamy and rich. The bacon is always so crispy. Another redeeming factor was when the waiter came over with 2 giftcards, which they were giving out to Mother's for Mother's day. He gave one to me and one to my mom and said mother or not, every women gets one today. I am not a mother and was very grateful that he gave us both one. Despite the menu change and the slow service at the beginning, the kindness of the giftcards and deliciousness of the food, turned my initial experience around. read more

Staying in the burbs is never my first choice when I visit Portland for business but tonight I'm here in Hillsboro and was able to walk to Stanford's for dinner. It's always a reliable choice but tonight I was pleasantly surprised. My chicken sandwich was yummy with a fresh bun and spicy greens, and the side salad was fantastic, big chunks of egg, bacon and real veggies, not your typical lame lettuce with a couple tomatoes. Plus it was half price bottle of wine night and I'm taking the rest of my Oregon Pinot home. Service in the bar was excellent as well. A great biz trip dinner spot. read more

The lounge was full so we were sat in the Restaurant and the server was not at all outwardly disappointed that apps and wine were whats for dinner. We shared the Cedar Plank roasted Brie and the Surf and Turf Skewers. I was delighted by the size of the cheese wheel, I thought to myself that I would have probably payed more for the cheese alone at the Deli counter of Safeway. It was served with plenty of great bread and a small bit of honey along side a bit of Red Pepper Chutney. It was a nice idea, but the chutney lacked the kick to get the spicy/sweet contrast they were going for. The cheese was perfect, I didn't leave a bite. The prawns were nice size, a few seconds overcooked and lacking seasoning. The alleged Tenderloin was tucked in the belly of the prawn and as such was so small it could go unnoticed. The $7.00 merlot, might as well have been $7.00 a bottle. It was fine, not undrinkable and not remarkable. All in all for the dreaded chain fare, I give it a 3. If ya must, go ahead baby.. read more

Great happy hour! Highly recommend the Mango Martini if you want something refreshing, sweet, & not too strong a taste of alcohol. The Mac N Cheese was on point. The Cheeseburger sliders were also delicious. We ordered them traditional style (with lettuce, tomatoes & onion). The Chicken Quesadillas were a bit too salty, so we couldn't finish them. The happy hour food is a little bit pricier than some other places, but I enjoy the food & atmosphere & service is always great, so definitely worth it! read more

Great place to stop by after work. It's not a great joint, but it works. The HH menu is very good, until you get the bill. You do need to buy alcohol or they will charge you the regular price. Very silly. It's always packed, so go around 4:30, because between 5 and 5:15, its standing room only. By six it's over. The food is decent. We typically sit at the bar and the batenders are always very nice and keep the drinks flowing, The happy hour menu tho is fantastic. We have noshed on chopped salad, ribs, steak bites to name a few, and they are all tasty. Portion sizes are one person tapa sized so don't be shocked, however the price is right and it allows a fickle gal such as myself to sample many items. It's a nice atmosphere, but not stuffy. My last visit we where seated taken our drink and food order brought our appitzer and then we waited, waited, and waited when we finally flagged down our waitress after a hour and asked if the kitchen was slow she stumbled on a answer of them running behind and we told her we would just take our check for our apittizer she went to get our bill and the manager on duty came back with our food and said something about us being out of the loop and apologized we left without eating I was very dissappointed not with the manager but wither the waitress that never stopped to ask if we where doing alright if we needed more drinks or bothered to check on our food until we asked. I am surprised by the yelp reviews of this location. My guess is timing is the problem when eating here. I have eaten here twice both times around 1:30 PM on a weekday after playing golf. This afternoon service was excellent however there was one person hustling around the bar both bar tending and serving food. The woman was running like crazy to keep up, but keep up she did. She took pity on me after discovering we had just spent 4 hours on a golf course with 100 degree weather and kept bringing me fresh water. ( this says a great deal about her compassion and our stupidity) The food seems to be the standard mid-priced chain food, solid but unremarkable. I had a salad that was good, sort of standard issue. Sandwiches are generous, well cooked and nicely presented. My guess is that if the yelpers are telling you to avoid this place on the weekend it is good advice. I have found the collective wisdom is rarely wrong. Stick to weekdays if you happen to have time off. read more

The Stanford's of last decade was always busy with great food, but it seems to have taken a step back over the past few years. The Tanasbourne (Hillsboro) Stanford's serves decent food, but the quality can be inconsistent and the prices are higher than their competitors. The menu is a bit too large and can be daunting to newcomers. They have a separate fish menu with standard fare like salmon and some of my other favorites are the ribs and the Kruse Burger. The salads can be over dressed at times, but there are a lot of options. They offer seasonal vegetables with many entrees, but I have had over-salted veggies more than a few times. Service is usually pretty good, but I have had some poor service visits in the past. Overall, the food is good as compared to the other fare in the Tanasbourne area, but the prices are a little too upscale for the inconsistency of the food. read more

I use to love this Stanford's, my husband and I go early around 4:00 pm to miss the rush. We got seated right away which is nice. The past 2 times we have gone it took over 45 minutes to get our dinner, unacceptable especially when they aren't busy. I order salmon and rice with lemon sauce with asparagus which they have taken off the menu. BIG MISTAKE. I order dinner size and got a piece of salmon the size of my 3 fingers to my knuckles which was very dry and burnt. The rice was ok no flavor, was suppose to have lemon sauce not much to speak of, and 4 very small pieces of asparagus the size of my little finger. I usually order this dish and know it's off the menu. The price was outrageous $27 for a unacceptably dinner. I don't know what is going on with Stanford's only to say it's going down hill. The only good thing about them is their Happy Hour and the appetizers are decent. I don't know why they would change their menu when it use to be so delicious. I will be dining else where. I have to say that I think that Stanford's has gone down in quality in the last couple years, at least at this location. I went with my family today for lunch and was wholly unsatisfied with the quality of the food for the prices they were charging for it. The rundown: House Salad: Limp lettuce (mostly iceberg) due to the entire salad being smothered in vinaigrette. It was nothing special considering they charge $6 for it - it looked like something I could have made at home for less than a tenth of the price. Crab-cake stuffed trout with prawn jambalaya: I was wholly disappointed with this dish, as it was much greasier than I was expecting (although I don't know why I was surprised due to the crab cake). It was clear that it had been deep-fried in butter. The jambalaya tasted as if it had been made with a heaping dose of ketchup. $16 for the whole dish. I'm not that picky of a consumer, but for prices averaging $16-20 for lunch entrees, I would expect something of much higher quality. After sampling my family's other dishes as well (Classic burger, grilled salmon, and parmesan-crusted sole), I found the food to be greasy and heavy. At least the bread is still good. We called and made a reservation. When we got there we had to wait 20 minutes to get our table, as it was a very busy Saturday night. I ordered the pan roasted chicken, my go to dish when nothin on the specials sounds good. The only complaint I had was that there was too much clove in the seasoning this go around. My wife got the filet. The only issue with it was that it was slightly under cooked. Not inedible but just a little pinker then she would have preferred. The service was great as usual. My wife asked if she could get the mashed potatoes instead of the au gratin ones. The waitress said that would not be a problem. Then when she said the seasonal vegetables were a beat mixture, my wife asked if she could get the green beans instead. Again waitress said it would not be a problem. Last time two times I went, my table was ignored for most of the service. My husband came specifically for a steak, he ordered a ribeye and it was awful. It was very thin and tough, the green beans were so undercooked that they were inedible and the mashed potatoes were so over seasoned they were gray in color.
