These donuts are amazing! My husband and I were staying in the neighborhood for business and he must have stopped by for donuts every day. My favorites were the coconut crème, coconut cake and, of course, the maple bacon (this was possibly better than VooDoo's maple bacon... possibly). I wish there was a rating for food and one for service. I had my first experience 2 weeks ago when my husband brought a box home....I fell in love immediately. Excited to return, I went there today at 5 PM (after seeing that they are open until 9) they were out of a lot and said that they don't restock-they sell what they make for the day.... I'm confused, how can you be open all day but not make fresh donuts....Especially for the price that you are charging people for these donuts? The service is honestly what drew me to write this review. It was absolutely horrible. Food rating 5 stars ---Service 1 star for many reasons. I have worked in the service industry for over 10 years and $29 later the guy made me feel like I was inconveniencing him. Repeatedly rolled his eyes huffing and puffing leaning side to side as I looked at the limited options.... then while waiting for my shakes, another employee asked him to make drinks at the coffee bar.... what a surprise, I watched him take a deep breath in and out rolling his eyes in front of me and everyone else. I have decided to give them one more try, as the donuts are so amazing, but if the service remains to be this bad I will never eat there again. Further more I will make sure to tell everyone I know or talk to, to not eat here due to the lack of customer service. If your charging someone 30 dollars for a 1/2 dozen donuts and two milk shakes you better damn well treat that person with some respect! read more

Wow. I used to love Stans but I was SOOO disappointed after buying doughnuts last night and finding that they were stale. After asking the staff when the doughnuts were made, they acknowledged they are brought in at 6:30 am....so over 12 hours old. Won't be back here unless I can find a spot where they are made onsite. This review is based solely on the service we received this evening at the Stan's on the corner of Belmont and Diversey 2/28 at 6:21pm. Gentleman working behind the counter couldn't have been more rude to my girlfriend while she was ordering the donuts she wanted. Retrieving the donuts for her seemed to be a hassle for him and he'd immediately attempt to hand the bag back over the counter in between each donut request. As she requested each donut he'd roll his eyes to the girl working at the counter as well. My girlfriend also asked about a specific donut and all he blurts out was, "it's vegan". Ok...... I thought to myself is this really happening? No description or attempt to engage the customer? Seemed like he hated us. After the most akward 4 donut request of our lives we walked over to the counter where the girl apologized to my girlfriend about her co-workers behavior. "Here's a card for a free donut on us next time since he was being such an ass". Ok, that was nice, but the whole experience still had us leaving the place questioning why we didn't ask this guy what his problem was. Either way probably won't be returning to this location. If you like yeast donuts, this is by far my favorite place in the city for them. Couldn't tell you about the cake ones since I haven't really compared. For something simple- the vanilla glazed donuts with sprinkles are da bomb diggity. Chocolate ones are great too. read more

The donuts were good, but the service was SO bad it takes away from the quality of the food. I paid $28.60 for 6 donuts, which is fine because we wanted to try Stan's donuts, but to get 4 of 6 donuts wrong? Easily one of the best flavored old fashioned donuts I've had: pistachio lemon. Surprised by this delicious and unique flavor pairing. The coffee was also quite good and strong, even a medium size (which is often just a milkier small). They offer nitro coffee as well, which is ahead of the curve, if you're looking for a unique carbonated coffee experience. read more

Was a bit disappointed considering our friend told us "Stan's has great donuts!" the first day we arrived in Chicago. We got several flavors, including nutella, glazed, Boston creme, and a green I cannot remember the name of. We both thought all the flavors were too sweet. Boston creme was probably the best one, but the rest were almost unbareably sweet. For what it's worth, the coffee was really good, according to my boyfriend (I don't drink coffee, can't speak for it myself). Maybe if I try them again some day I might change my mind; it's probably worth a second chance (eventually). read more

I was ESTATIC when Stan's moved into Lakeview East when I lived in Lincoln Park. Came to visit Chicago this weekend and got really sad that I couldn't have a doughnut. The donuts are delicious, but a little on the expensive side. The last time I was there I ordered and paid for a dozen donuts, but I only received six. Not realizing this until I arrived downtown at the office, I called to ask for a partial refund so that I was only paying for the six I received. The manager apologized profusely and told me that they would refund my full order to the card I used to pay within an hour. I never received any such refund and that was about a month ago. read more

I tried the lemon pistachio donut (something along those lines). I personally thought the donuts were too sweet. The prices seem to be similar to Molly's Cupcake which is also nearby. The tables were a bit small, so it was hard to fit 7 people in one spot. I tried a sip of a friend's ice cream which was pretty good though. read more

I am very, very disappointed in Stan's. I arrived at exactly 9pm with my son only to find out it closes at 9. This would've been fine except I waited around trying to figure out where else to go for dessert.....while I waited around 2 young girls jumped off the Broadway bus and knocled on the door at stans on broadway and aldine. They were both let in and we're both behind the counter handling the left over donuts. I'm not sure what policy and procedure is but I don't think this is appropriate.
