Diner style counter
Edward M.

Hadn't been back in over 10 years, and it's like the place hasn't aged a day. Still locked in time with its old-school diner counter and antique wall decor. The burgers? Massive. Unapologetically messy, grilled to perfection, and still some of the best in town. I forgot how damn good they were. The chili cheese fries. The kind that make you question how we ever settled for canned chili anywhere else. No beans. No shortcuts. Just chunky tomato, real ground beef, and flavor that punches through. This is chili the way it's supposed to be. Washed it down with a cold sugar cane soda and walked out full, happy, and wondering why I ever waited this long to come back.

Best burgers in Houston! I came with the family today and the place is a complete diner! I've seen so many wonderful transformations here but the food is and has always been so delicious! I always recommend Stanton's! Today I had the grilled chicken. It has been so long! If you live in Houston or are just visiting, you definitely want to come here. Order and pick up to go or stay and eat. It's so close to downtown and has great service!

After seeing this cute spot in the heights that seemed to be an old-school no frills burger joint, we decided to stop in and get a bit to eat. Both of us were surprised shakes weren't on the menu considering the vibe but that wasn't a big deal . I ordered the equivalent of a mushroom Swiss burger (but asked for the bacon to be on the side) and then an order of waffle fries. The staff at the counter was very friendly as well. When the order came, I was impressed with the soft and fresh bun and was ready to dive in. The burger was a bit meh and thought it really needed fresh veggies like lettuce and red onion to it so it didn't taste so plain. My boyfriend also felt that his burger was good not great. While the decor and ambiance are cute and fun... it seems like it used to be an authentic burger joint with that vibe and now it's just a reminiscent feel and it wasn't kept up. All in all, we'd come back but it won't be at the top of the list and we'd both be making adjustments to our order.

The patty ans bun may have gotten smaller since my my first visits but it's still a solid choice for a delicious and filling burger. The inside has changed an over time making it bigger and more deli/diner style vs a grocery store. Staff is always super friendly and food comes out quickly.

This place is like stepping back in time. Great no frills place with incredibly good burgers. I recommend the Ms. Piggy (1/2 ground beef and 1/2 ground bacon) but every burger is tasty. The fries are out of this world as well. The staff are always friendly and it's kid-friendly.

We called Shara's our order, it was ready soon after our arrival. The atmosphere is a neat vintage diner. Order at the counter and then be seated. The food was solid.

This is one the of the OG spots that BOTM revisits pretty regularly. Many have claimed as the city's best. I have been a few times and it's a solid burger. I haven't decided on my personal favorite, but you can't go wrong here. They are fresh AF. My burger was HOT. Like burn your mouth kinda temps. Pretty good with customizing and options on the menu. We came out for a pre-game meal. We left full and ready for another win. Give it a shot. Go Coogs!

Service was great, place and ambience was what we expected for the location. We ordered the spicy chipotle which was lacking the chipotle sauce, we got a few hints of it, but not much. We also tried the cowboy brunch burger, which was a good size but also lacked flavor, the meat was not a bad quality, but had no flavor and the egg didn't have a runny yolk which in my opinion, sucked. I had the Ms. Piggies burger and it was a disappointment since it mentioned candied bacon and all I got was bacon, the meat again was flavorless, I had to add salt and ketchup to my burger to taste something. Although the burgers were big, the lack of flavor made them pointless.. I'm not mad at it, but I've had better, and would not go back. The Cajun fries were also flavorless fries, they shouldn't be called Cajun, when they are just seasoned fries. Not worth the hype. The $12 we paid for the burgers plus the $4 dollar fries and $3 for the drink was not worth it. For 3 burgers, 3 orders of fries and 3 fountain drinks we paid $64 plus the tip, we paid $73. Try it for yourself, but I don't recommend it.

This one has been on my radar for a while. I'm glad I finally stopped in. Solid four stars. Great burger. Food: I went with the bacon cheeseburger and it was made to order and made the perfection. A very nice size piece of meat came out that was sizzling hot. Every bite was great. The waffle fries were exceptional. I really enjoyed the crunch. I also like the decor on the inside it's like walking into an old school diner. Great customer service. The young lady that took my order was very nice and my food came out in a decent amount of time. Solid four stars I would definitely come back !

Great customer service as you walk into a vintage style vibe location with the countertop wrapped around bar and tables on the adjacent side. Greeted us and explain the menu to us old school registers present to show vintage aesthetic vibe . Order two burgers with onion rings and fries some recommendation from the clerk to help us out and taste what is ordered and preferred customers They make their own patties and it looks like bake their own bread have plenty of add-ons and burger styles to customize your order Will definitely return to try out other options

Very cool place just outside of downtown. The place has history and you can tell as you as you walk in (watch your step!). Vintage hardwood floors. To my surprise they sell Joe Tea. One my my favorite bottled beverages. The burger was OUTSTANDING. Loved the hand formed patty. The bun was a little much but the burger still shined. Waffle fries were nice and crispy. Staff was friendly. I look forward to going back next time I'm in Houston.

The tots were crispy but tasted slightly of old oil.
J W.

Just OK. Was excited based on many reviews that I was going to find a long-hidden gem. Sorry to say it didn't live up to expectations. Got the miss piggie, which is supposed to have a 50/50 burger (beef/bacon), candied bacon, and a hash brown on it. The burger was plenty flavorful but a bit dry. There was not much bacon on it and I couldn't detect anything to 'candied' about it. The hash brown was pretty blah. The fries were OK but the tater tots had kind of an off taste, like maybe old oil or something. It really wasn't as bad as the description makes it out to be. It is pretty harmless, just won't be going back given all the amazing choices in Houston.

Nut allergy friendly: Yep! No nuts in anything! Parking: Park down the street, walk a few minutes. Order-to-Burgers: 12 Minutes A lovely diner-esque spot that reigns as one of the kings of burgers in Houston. It looks like an unassuming spot from the outside, and walking in feels like you've been transported back into an old school diner. Counter service and food delivered to the table. For three people, we got three different burgers and one order each of waffle fries and tater tots. It was plenty enough for all of us! I had the Holy Cow burger without pickle. Perfectly cooked, amazingly filling, fresh ingredients and perfectly melted cheese. A classic burger done right. The tater tots and waffle fries came out hot and crispy and were just the right amount of seasoned and salty. The water's cold, the fried are crispy, and the burgers are bangers. Definitely worth a visit.

There were 2 servers that were assisting with the table. Both very nice and got our orders correct. I had to split the bill in a weird way and they followed instructions well. The restaurant is always nice and clean including the restroom. The restaurant has a lunch option for 2 items for $25. What a steal! I got the wedge salad because I love the smothered blue cheese dressing. I got the mahi mahi tacos. Tacos were a good lighter choice. I didn't realize that it came with fries. All delicious options and so many options for even the pickiest eaters. Always a good choice for a nicer lunch.

The steak was cooked perfectly. It comes sliced with a sauce that's sort of like a nicer version of Heinz 57 -- very good. The smashed potatoes were better than you'd expect, especially if you can get a side of the onion ring sauce to put on them; it sets them off really nicely. The green beans were also very good. We added a small order of onion rings as an extra side, and they were some of the best i have had in a while. They came with some kind of ranch-type sauce that was absolutely phenomenal. I ended up dipping everything in it -- the steak, the potatoes, all of it. I also had their "steak night" old fashioned, which was a solid drink. The steak night plate is a great value. My wife and I actually split it -- it's a larger portion than you'd think, and you can add on shrimp if you want a little more. side note: The croutons on the Caesar salad deserve a mention of their own some of the best I've ever had. I don't know what they do to them, but they're exceptional. As for the spot itself: super nice location, very clean. The bar has a nice feel, with large windows where you can sit and look out to the street. All the food we had was top notch -- I'd give it a full five stars for taste and value. The one thing that knocks it down a little is the service. We sat at the bar, and there were two bartenders. It wasn't especially busy, but it still took a while to get drinks. The bigger hang-up was that I asked two or three small questions about the menu and the bartenders had no idea it was a lot of "I don't know" or "let me check on that," and then they never really got back to me. Not a huge deal, and they weren't unfriendly it just wasn't quite a five-star experience on that front. Highly recommend, would recommend and return.

Just kidding LOL that didn't happen! Anyway, back to the point, sorry.. I like to mess around a little. I wasn't that hungry because I had food yesterday I ordered a kids cheeseburger burger with fries, a kids meal chicken tender with fries, a farmhouse burger, and the half chicken with biscuits. I also had the his biscus lemonade. Needless to say--well actually, quite needing to say since this is a review after all--the food was pretty good. Prices were a little crazy but it's become all to normal in this day and age. As for the food, I ordered a kids cheeseburger burger with fries , a kids meal chicken tender.. don't feel like saying all this again. As for the food, the service was pretty good I guess. The girl servers were pretty smart. The boy servers were a little less smart. Every time the guys brought food, they either stood there looking around, or attempted to place the food on top of other plates or napkins that were on the tiny table. I suggest maybe a boot/concentration program for the guys so they can concentrate a lil more. Ok, it's time for me to go. I'm gonna go to sleep after all the food. I forgot to mention what I ordered. kids cheeseburger burger with fries, a kids meal chicken tender with fries, a farmhouse burger, and the half chicken with biscuits. I also had the his biscus lemonade. The half chicken was obviously what they tried the hardest in. There were 4 types of sauce with it. They were all pretty good, but I didn't eat the chicken. The chicken tasted incredible-- so much so that I finished it completely. But I don't like eating around bones, I find it primitive. I'm more of a chicken tender kinda guy if you know what I mean. Oh yeah and for the food, I had a his biscus lemonade. It was SO good. Alright. And that is the end of my review. I might have just found one of my new favorite restaurants in Houston. What a great experience!…read more Recently, a good friend dined here and immediately called me to tell me how great it was. She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

The first were "natural" and nicely briny. The 2nd was pure genius: they said it would taste like a Big Mac, and they were spot on. Amazing! Steak Tartare - the steak and deviled egg mixture were satisfyingly velvety and the accompanying bread was buttery, chewy, and addictive; Puff Puff Pass - unique textures: crispy, chewy, smooth elements are married beautifully. Nonno's Pasta - this dish was my least favorite. I found the flavors to be too cheese forward with not enough acid; Jamon With Your Bad Self - while not much to look at, this dish was outstanding. The pork's texture was simply magical, and the flavors well-balanced. On the side, we had the Fingerlingin Good potatoes, and they lived up to their name: pleasantly crispy and bursting with savory goodness. Desserts: the Olive Oil Cake was a dream: incredibly moist and tender with vanilla richness and a kiss of lemon. The Black Bottom Pie was not my favorite. I would the salt to be too much and couldn't eat more than 2 bites because of it. Service: warm, gracious, attentive, and efficient. As for ambiance, this is where the restaurant misses the mark for me. It's in an old house, and when we walked in, that's exactly what I smelled: old house. Still, if you're looking for a unique, creative menu that delivers on flavors, add nobie's to your bingo card.

The pappardelle with the wide noodles was so fun and there was lots of parm which I liked, and the lemon zest was a nice touch. The squash was soft and I loved the ricotta. The campanelle was really unique with the crawfish and the spicy sauce, the noodle shape was so fun. The cheeseburger is tiny but mighty, super juicy and cheesy. The fries were perfectly crispy. Mango sorbet was packed full of mango flavor! Really enjoyed this spot, can't believe it took me so long to get here. Probably best to get a reservation. Small parking lot available.

I can't believe it. It's been 10 years since I reviewed Grace's. I've probably been here 35 or 40…read moretimes since then. I bring family and friends here all the time along with business partners. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston, Texas. You will experience the best food and the best service here every single time! Today was the first time I decided to get some food to go. Bradley was an absolute professional. While I was leaving, Johnny Carrabba came out and talked to me for a second. What a nice guy. Full of natural charisma. Reminds me of an old wise guy from casino or Goodfellas. We had a great conversation. I told him how my grandmother was born in Bryan Texas in 1927. He told me about his family that migrated there in 1905. He also mentioned his family had a store on Canal Street. I had no idea. An exceptional person, a legend in the restaurant industry here in Houston, Texas. It was great to meet you today Johnny. Thank you for your professionalism and hospitality and also thank you for serving some of the best food in Houston, Texas! Food: as you can see from all my pictures of the food is simply amazing. The best cornbread in the world. The best pot roast. The best sticky ribs. The best desserts. Everything here is phenomenal. Lunch dinner brunch you cannot go wrong. It was an absolute pleasure to meet Bradley and Johnny today I've been coming to this location for years and I will continue to come and support this restaurant.

I finally made it to Grace's on Kirby and left with mixed feelings. The dining area is a little…read morecompact (not super small though) but it's not a quiet, romantic spot. The main highlight was the 5 star service by Eric! He's enough to make me want to go back! I'll definitely ask for him every time! 2nd highlight is that cornbread because whew...bussin. Pair it with the collard greens and that's a five-star combo all day. I was undecided on what to order, so I went with the cajun stuffed chicken exactly as it comes, along with mac & cheese and collard greens. The meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The chicken, I'd probably skip next time, I took most to go and it went bad cause I couldn't do it. Mac wasn't anything to write home about either but again, them greens and cornbread are absolutely getting reordered. My friend ordered the key lime pie and enjoyed it, so that seemed to be another solid choice. But back to the real MVP of the visit which was our server, Eric. He made menu suggestions without being pushy, kept my glass full the entire meal, was kind, patient, and anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask. That level of service is becoming harder to find, and it definitely elevated the experience. Overall, the food landed somewhere in the middle for me, but Eric's service easily pushed this visit to four stars. I'll definitely be back...mainly for that cornbread lol.

Best filet mignon I've had in awhile. The service here at Federal downtown is always great. We sat…read moreat the bar and ordered sunset happy hour strawberry lemon drops. They were delicious. Back to the steak. I am very particular about my filets I prefer it medium Pittsburgh style. The chef here got it perfectly! It was so tender on the inside and crispy one outside, I devoured it. For sides I ordered truffle mash potato and Mac & cheese. I couldn't find a truffle in my mash tasted very regular. Besides that I enjoyed my meal. My husband loved his Ruben as it's his favorite here too.

Federal American Grill ended up being the PERFECT pivot for our night…read more We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately--service was on point from start to finish (shoutout to Freddie!). The real win here is social hour. $10 appetizers that are normally closer to $18? Say less. We ordered a few things to share: Cheeseburger egg rolls (slightly overcooked on the outside, but still good flavor) Cheeseburger sliders (simple, but my partner enjoyed them) Meatballs over mashed potatoes (THIS was a surprise--it's basically a full meal and very good) Bang bang shrimp (probably my favorite--great flavor and presentation) Drinks were also well done and consistent. The vibe is definitely more relaxed, social, and comfortable--not super fancy, but still nice enough for a casual night out. Overall: Good food, great service, and excellent value. I'd definitely come back.
