We were walking down Haight street when we stumbled upon this little gem. The staff were super friendly and the vibes inside were great. The homemade carrot cake was a must. Hey first time in the bay from LA! The establishment looks nice and at first the staff seemed nice after not being able to recommend me their matcha or cold brew. That's fine! I went with the matcha... after seeing the color of it I knew it was going to be bad tasting. I tasted it and exactly what I thought. Terrible. I kindly asked the guy if I could switch it out with a cold brew being that I paid more for a matcha, and it was a hard no. "We don't do that," is what he said. Then he offered me liquid syrup to make it "taste better," I explained to him that he was using baking matcha (the powder that's used for baking, usually cheaper). And afterwards I just threw the drink away. Customer service was a no from me. read more

The Stanza Breakfast Sandwich is pretty good. It had a nice amount of ingredients and fresh, crunchy bacon. It's a good size for a breakfast sandwich, but could benefit from a better bun rather than a hamburger bun. I didn't see an option to customize this, but I think it would taste better on a Bagel, English muffin or croissant. This would make me more likely to order it again, as well as make the sandwich feel more premium for the price. Overall good experience and service here though! read more

Got an iced matcha latte & chicken arugula sandwich - stayed for around an hour to do work! Decent place to sit down and work although it can be a bit loud sometimes. Service is a bit on the slower side but there's not many people working there & the quality of food is good. My chicken sandwich was really really delicious! Couldn't tell but first bite made it taste like it was on garlic bread. The bread on the sandwich was great. However, I probably wouldn't recommend the matcha latte. It was quite a bit powdery & there was nothing in it to make it sweet. Overall, a bit on the expensive side for cafe food. read more

A trip to the Haight/Ashbury calls for venturing out to unique & funky stores. But when you might need that little pick-me-up, I highly recommend checking out "Stanza Coffee Bar". I've been to this part of San Francisco dozens of times in the past but this was my first time actually giving their coffees a try. Located directly on Haight St. and directly in between Cole St. & Belvedere St., Stanza Coffee Bar has been serving up delicious coffee and tea beverages ever since 2012. I came here with my significant other around 5:00pm on Saturday 7/20/19 as I was needed that extra caffeine boost to keep me going throughout the rest of the day and evening. The interior of this place is absolutely amazing. Inside you will see brick red walls with beautifully hand painted artwork. They also have a unique drip coffee display, a wine barrel, rich dark wood throughout, and very comfortable seating. Every square inch of this place exemplifies what the San Francisco coffee scene. And I personally the vibe and ambiance over other popular coffee shops in the city, primarily "Blue Bottle" and "Philz Coffee". Since the weather was a rather mild 66°, I ended up settling with an "Iced Mocha" (priced at around $5.00). I believe all the sizes here were the same (which was a 16 oz. Grande size). The cashier was very friendly and attentive. My drink was ready in less than 3 minutes as it was served in a clear plastic cup with biodegradable straw. The taste definitely had a nice rich espresso flavor while the chocolate was sweeter than most mochas I've tasted. This was not a bad thing as I prefer my espresso drinks to be a bit more on the sweeter side. Based on other reviews, many people rave about their Kyoto Iced Coffees, Lattes, and Chai Lattes. All in all, "Stanza Coffee Bar" is a great little coffee shop that I highly recommend when visiting the Haight. When you factor in the service, experience, ambiance, and taste, I will have to give this place a respectable four-stars. read more

Stanza Coffee Bar is a block away from our house, but we've had a hard time getting there before they close (their hours have been some of the more restrictive I've seen during the pandemic era.) However, I finally got to check it out recently and was very pleased with their quality and options. There are a few staples that I look for at cafes. First, matcha lattes. Second, oat milk. And third, vegan options. Stanza had all three, but the verdict really comes down to how well they make the matcha latte. Some places make them far too sweet but the employee at Stanza kindly asked if I wanted any sweetener (to which I obviously declined.) The result was a very delicious matcha latte that I would definitely return for. As for vegan options, I believe they had some savory items available, but I opted for one of the vegan cookies they had at the counter. It too hit the spot (particularly paired with the matcha latte.) The overall price for the two matcha lattes and cookie was a bit on the pricey side but, to be honest, I'd rather give my money to a local business (when there are certainly much worse places it could go.) Recommend for anyone in the Haight looking for a quick pick me up or a light meal. Just make sure you check their hours ahead of time to confirm they are open. read more

Their response to me while laughing at me was: "You probably just didn't like it" when all I asked kindly was "Hi is it possible to switch my drink out I didn't really like it. It was watery to me" There's a million other ways to say it "I'm sorry it's against our policy / Sorry you experienced that" instead of staring at us blankly and laughing :) Don't order their watered down chai or let alone support rude owners. read more

Very disappointing. Covid killed the vibe of this place. The best thing about Stanza was sitting in the window, drinking their excellent coffee, watching the passersby, while getting a little work done on the computer. Second best was sitting at their marble counter and getting serious work done while getting served cap after cap after cap. Post Covid, they close very early, and they have no more wifi, so you can't get your work done. Very bad. The marble counter is covered with boxes and other stuff so there's no sitting down there. Very bad use of space. They should take a cue from Art's Cafe at 9th and Irving on fitting a whole kitchen into a long narrow counter. Their coffee is still good, but who cares? read more

Awesome local shop in the heart of Height street. They made me a fine cup of cappuccino without any special instructions (and that means a lot because I'm kind of particular...) it was really satisfying and the energy boost I needed! I don't know anything about their food or pastry options, it looked kind of limited. but I know they can make a great coffee and that's what I cared about. My first visit here left me smiling even after I walked out the door... I also think it had to be my most enjoyable food experience during this past weekend visit to SF. The barista was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and down to earth. Seducing chocolates, chocolate chip cookies, and as their name reflects, they offer wine, coffee and more. I was mainly here for a little sweet after a savory breakfast. Iced Coffee: I was so intrigued by the Kyoto Slow Drip Filter and the fact that takes 12 hours to filter Iced Coffee. The barista took the time to explain the who, what, why, and how. This filter's slow process allows for the coffee bean oils to seep through and the finished coffee product maintains the integrity of the coffee beans (this easily and quickly occurs with the hot water process). It's a full bodied iced coffee that would be great on a hot day. I had a sample and it was bold in flavor and body. Mexican Hot Chocolate: The Mexican hot chocolate (enough cayenne and cinnamon to add more flavor to the palette) was so delicious and the spiciness kicked down the sweetness. The barista indicated that they will soon introduce a ganache cocoa made in-house. She also mentioned, sad face, that the Mexican hot chocolate will likely be phased out as the current chocolate vendor discontinued this item, but Stanza may continue to make it with the newbie in-house ganache cocoa... hopefully they do when I come back to visit! read more

Super super cute coffee shop off of Haight street - very well decorated and laid out with tables near the front windows and past the coffee equipment near the back of the shop. Pretty hipster interior. I paid $5 for a soy latte ~grande size, although there were no sizes, and it was great. The pastries looked to die for. I wish I hadn't just eaten because I definitely wanted a few things! They had HUGE croissants, cookies, scones, etc. I have walked past this coffee shop so many times and never gone in so I'm glad to have finally gone in and tried the coffee. I know that they have one, and I can somewhat understand not allowing non-customer's to use it, but it's unreasonable to deny someone after they had a drink and meal if it's operational. This is a cool little coffee shop on Haight Street. The coffee drinks are done right -- made to order with great beans. I opted for their Americano. It was made perfectly. The staff were hip and playing cool tunes. There was a steady stream of people wondering in and out of Stanza. Many of them seemed to order something just so they could take a quick break and, to be honest, use the bathroom. Jokes on them because the bathroom was effing gross! This coffee company takes lots of pride with the process of roasting their beans. I'd take their coffee in the form of espresso. It's bold and acidic but definitely tasty. I was surprised to see reviews re: racism I was served by a Japanese gentleman who helped explain Kyoto coffee to me, I love that they have vegan goodies (even if it isn't readily apparent). The Kyoto coffee: I usually don't leave pretentious reviews but I actually tasted notes of caramel and fruit (acidity). Really wonderfully and smooth.
