I wish to share my experience with you. About five months ago I purchased an Apple charging cable for my iPhone/iPad at this store. The cable stopped working and I went to get it replaced. I was surprised that Staples does not offer the same warranty/return policy as Apple. Staples offers two weeks vs a year with Apple. I bought a cable but later decided to contact Apple about a replacement. It took a few calls to get connected to the proper department for my questions. Apples robot first connected me to technical support where I learned Staples was charging $5 more for this part. The person I spoke with commented he thought the price should have been the same. Later, I decided to verify his comment prior to returning the cable to Staples. No reason to complain about Staples pricing if that information was incorrect. I called again inquiring about Apple's policies with a third party merchant. This time their robot connected me to the billing department. My call with the billing department got disconnected midway. This representative did not call back, which is unusual. By now I was invested in getting resolution. I called again, this time was connected to customer relations, bingo the department best suited for my issue. End result, Apple sent me a new cable. Now despite trouble reaching the proper department, this is what I call good customer service. Upon returning the cable, I spoke to the manager at Staples and suggested she tell Staple's management how their service pales compared to Apple. Her response of just repeating store policy left me feeling she didn't care and wasn't going to bother passing on my feedback. Also, I learned that a third party merchant can charge whatever they want for Apple products. So if want to avoid paying more, call around prior to purchasing, Best Buy charges even more. In my opinion, if you want to pay less and get a better warranty/return service, purchase your Apple products from Apple. I hope you found my "detective work" enlightening. read more

I feel a little lame reviewing Staples but after I had a great experience there I felt the need to let you all know. I don't know about you but I dread going into Staples or Office Depot. I rather punch myself in the face. But this week I was house sitting in Novato and my sister didn't (*gasp*) have wireless. So I sucked it up and went to Staples to get a wireless router. And I didn't believe it -- they provided good service! This nice young man Aaron knew about all the products and was really helpful. If you have to hit up one of these big office equipment retailers this is the best one in Marin. read more

Pretty decent service in the computer area. Copy center is understaffed however. I always seem to have to wait for help, find broken copier, office supplies need replenishing (i.e staples, glue stick). One of the managers, Maria, is very sweet and particularly helpful. Pet peeve -- please discontinue with the greeter that says hello when you come in the door. It's so disingenuous. read more

This is the best customer service I have ever gotten anywhere. The staff was sooo nice and made sure I was pleased and satisfied with some invitations I printed. They made sure the job was done correctly and was just overall best experience. read more

The service there is very spotty but I still come because there isn't much of an alternative in Novato, except for Ideal Stationers. The selection is good and they do have a full service copy center. They also have a recycling service for used ink jet printer cartridges, which actually gives you back quite a bit of cash. read more

I ordered two banners online using same day service. I ordered them on Wednesday night assuming they'd be ready Thursday. I called to make sure and the girl said she was alone and hadn't done them yet, but they'd be ready Friday. Go in Friday afternoon, not ready, but they said they'd be ready by 8. I get a call at 7 saying they can't print the large one because of a machine malfunction but it would be ready in the morning. Saturday morning, I call to make sure they are ready, after some checking and back and forth, they will be ready in 30 minutes. One hour later, they are ready. While the staff was friendly and helpful, three days for same day banners is too long. Good thing I gave myself five days. The banners looked great and I was going to leave four stars, but two of the grommets ripped out while we were hanging the large banner. I have had problems with the self service machines in the past, as well. It seems like they just need to have more staff in the Print and Copy Center. read more

I've been in customer service for over 30 years and just recently had a very bad customer service experience there. I was the only person waiting in line today, one lady checking out and the cashier was yacking to her about her mother's surgery, etc. After 7 minutes or so I finally walked up to the check out and said excuse me but I need to go and you are just talking. The associate made a bad joke about me working on a Monday and never apologized. Helllooo! You never do that in customer service! He needs to find work else where...maybe a file clerk, but nothing that involves customer service because he's horrible at it. read more

I came in here for a quick copy and print job and was greeted at the door with enthusiasm. The copy and print folks were just as enthusiastic to assist me. I had a simple job and that was to get 4 pages printed off my flash drive. I was helped quickly and the girl [darn forgot her name] was stellar -- courteous and quick on her feet. And next thing I knew I had the documents right in front of me. Stellar service and top notch job! I will definitely be telling others about this and will come here for any copy and print jobs going forward. I was then told to have a nice day on the way out... now that's Service! Went in the store today to print some pdf files at the computer. I could not believe it - they want 49cents per printed back & white page. That is way, way over priced. I turned around and left and went to the public library where it only costs 15cents per page and the computer is free! read more

I don't come here often because I don't use a lot of office supplies. But, yesterday I needed a specific cable and I got it fast thanks to Shelby! I was completely lost when I walked in. I saw one person who worked there and wasn't dealing with a customer already, so I asked her if she could help me find this cable. She knew exactly where it was and took me right to it. I asked if they had the longer one and she told me they literally just got the longer one in, but the truck was still being unloaded. She offered to run out there and see if she could find it. It was probably less than 5 min when she came back with the longer one. She took me to a register and checked me out quickly. I'd say the whole thing took less than 10 min. I hadn't had lunch yet so I was very pleased! Keep up the good work! read more

I am SO upset with my experiences at the Novato Staples store. Recently I went in to buy a package of file folders. I checked the shelf price, and then went to check out. There was one cashier working with a customer, one man in line ahead of me, who was there when I came in and still there when I went to check out, and FOUR employees over in the tech area shooting the breeze with each other. They could clearly see that there were customers waiting. When I asked loudly for another cashier, one reluctantly peeled himself away from chatting, and rang up my order. The price on the computer was higher than the shelf, which I pointed out to him. He rudely replied that this was what the computer said, and made no effort to go and check the shelf. I had to go back there myself, take a photo of the price, then had to go through the manager to get the order re-rung and corrected. WHAT a hassle! On April 12, 2015 I went in to get a poster made, and was delighted to see that they were advertising a 40% off all posters and banners sale. Yet when I took my materials to the clerk, Edwin, I was informed that the pricing was only good if I placed my order online! I carefully checked the ad posters and there was NO mention at all that this was the case. I asked that he honor the advertised price and he refused. This is not acceptable customer service nor good business. Shame on them! PS I took my poster to Office Depot in San Rafael right after this happened. They not only did the job beautifully but it only cost me $9.99! read more

I went in there to print a LOT of pages for a job I was on and the issue was relatively time sensitive. I ended up being there for almost an hour and a half cause one thing or the other wasn't working properly. Normally, that would earn the shittiest of reviews. But the young gentleman behind the counter was so unbelievably helpful. It was a frustrating situation, one that would've made even the nicest people bitchy. And this guy was so calm and courteous and over all a doll to work with. So while I spent an hour and a half there, I got what I needed to get and i left with a smile because of this young man. I quite a disspointing experience here about 10 months ago. I went in to buy very basic school supplies. The binders were suprisingly expensive, considering they are plastic covered cardboard with metal rings. I think 1 and 1/2 inch binders were around $7. I picked out a couple that were on sale. It turned out that the price was reduced reflecting a mail-in rebate FOR A BINDER! Didn't see that one coming. If they sold candy bars, would they have mail-in rebates too? I spent a long time looking at mechanical pencils, and the price to quality ratio was unimpressive. High quality products were simply out of my price range for pencils. OK, maybe I'm too picky about pencils. I needed dividers. Considering that dividers are peices of thick paper with very small plastic peices on the end, the 5 or 6 dollars was outrageous for a set of 7 dividers. I needed graphing paper and binder paper. I spent about 10 minutes looking for them and it turned out they were out. FIne--you're out. But I had to ask three sales people before one would show me where it was supposed to be, and that it was out. And there were a couple employees standing around shooting the shoot while I was starving for attention. Att that point, I didn't want to take another student loan to buy printer ink so I left, after rejecting an offer for a credit card and a club member savings chatchkee. The place feels so corporatized (because it is), and it makes me feel like a rat being taunted. Be careful which cheese you pick, someof them are clearly traps, like mail-in rebates on binders. I have been in this store 50 times in the last 11/2 years. People are not helpful. I just had 20 copies of a business profile done. They screwed it up 3 times after I clearly explained twice what I wanted done. It took 4 days to get the correct copies and 2 extra trips. The manager handed it over to a different colleague 3 times with lousy communication. How can anyone give this store 5 stars??? read more

Great big store, they carry pretty much anything you could ever need for your office. They also sell tablets and laptops. The people who work there are usually knowledgable about the products and they offer great warranties on their electronics. read more

Alex and Sage absolutely great employees as they were helpful and friendly. Caked after my visit earlier today. Manager stated they didn't have a "Marco" working in the store although that was the name on his name tag. The employee masquerading as this person stinks. Bad attitude! Grumpy. Scowling faces. Only wanted to check our customers he worked with. While I was next in line he passed over two women and took his customer. When you work with the public leave discrimination in all forms at home. Do not come to this store to make copies. My first time here two machines jammed x 3 - a half an hour not being able to make copies. Horrible. And they charge for jammed copies. Never again. They can't really help because they are too busy. Flat lined interaction. read more

Had the worst customer service associate at the check out. Went in to pick up my online order and the guy - young, dark hair and glasses - pretty much interrogated me for my information even though I showed him my receipt. Saving grace, and the 1 star here, is the older gentleman who appeared from out the back, opened my order up from the box for me, checked the items, and thanked me for coming in. My advice:- get rid of the smarmy idiot at the front and place the mature, kind, grey haired gentleman at the register and your customers will return. I will be finding somewhere else in Novato for my office supplies - Target. read more

This specific Print center location in Novato gets a big, fat, ZERO IMO. I don't like giving bad reviews but they earned it fair and square. I took my laptop into their computer repair department after I got a severe virus. Almost $200.00 later it still isn't fixed properly. It seemed like a great idea. Fast, convenient and cheap. I was wrong. Not only couldnt they return my computer to proper functioning, but I had to buy an external wireless plug in to get onto the Internet in my home. I wont know until I have an experienced computer repair person look at it exactly what Staples did wrong, but when that happens, I plan to return to Staples and demand my money back. The concept of customer service is lost on these people. Wanted to buy Turbo Tax. Only empty boxes. You have to wander the aisles in search of someone to help you. I've never EVER had someone ask to help me. I take the empty box up to the cash register. She has no clue what to do and tells me she's new. No one in line behind me when I started, 10 in line before I'm done and they're all a little peeved because I actually want service (of course they only had one barely trained cashier on hand). What I really object to is the assumption that people are going to steal software and can't be trusted to walk the 10 feet to the register to pay for it. I'll pay more to purchase the product from someone who thinks the best of their customers, not the worst. One star is too much. read more

The binding of reports department of the Novato Staples is slow and incompetent. I had a report bounded by that department and found one page needed to be added so I asked if they could add that one page. The clerk said yes they could add it for half the price of the original cost, but will ask the department mamager to see if they could just add the one page. The department manager said they will charge the full cost of binding for that one page. The answers depends on who is there and what they want to say. read more

I've always gone to Best Buy but thought I'd try Staples since I live in Novato. Terrible service. I was looking for a new tablet and really wanted some help. I walked around the department looking at the tablets and small laptops for more then 10 minutes. No one approached me. Asked one fellow for help and he just blew by me, on his way to a "meeting". I think I'll just stick with Best Buy in the future. read more

Could not print a document. The "new policy" is to upload everything on-line. Except, "on-line" did not work. After spending 10 min going through all the set ups, etc., I could not check out. The store person told me I could not email it it because of some new policy (which is really just a way to push work on a customer away from the clerk). I recently placed order for business cards same delivery because I was leaving town next day. I waited four hours to call store and when I did the clerk said machine broken but we will call you when ready. No call back. Three hours later I called again and copier was working but orders backed up. Clerk suggested she could transfer order to another store I said fine and she said she would call back if the San Rafael store would no. Again no call back. I call back two hours later and was told orders were being printed and if they could get done before closing they would call me either way. Ta-Da you guessed it no call back. I called again today the moment the store opened and asked for an update on the order. Person answering phone could not find the order. I said I have a receipt from the online order and he said the person in the copy department would be in five minutes (late I guess) and would call me back. I indicated that this was the fourth time someone promised to call back and update the status. I am not keeping my hopes up. Terrible follow up service compounded by a brown copier. Once in the store the service is fine and people try to be helpful but this is the first and only time I will ever order from Staples online for a store pickup. Ugh. read more

I only give them one star because I cannot give them NO STARS!!! Their return/exchange policy is none existent and stinks!!! I purchased a new HP printer from them on 4/25/16 because the one I had previously had died that day. When I was shopping for the new printer, I asked the sales person if I would be able to exchange the unopened, unexpired ink cartridges that I had previously purchased from them for the new size needed for the new printer. I was told that was not a problem as long as they had not expired. (I had two cartridges at home). On 5/5/16 I returned to the store with the two unexpired cartridges and asked to exchange them for the size which would fit my new printer. The register clerk was able to exchange one, but said I would have to find the receipt for the other one. Right.......so I said I would go home and try to find it. On 5/8/16 I returned to the store with the cartridge, unable to locate the original receipt. At first they said I could not exchange it, because I did not have receipt and none of my credit cards when scanned brought up the original sale. Who knows if I even put it on a credit card???? Then he told me he could only give me the price back that was the lowest it had sold for....I finally relented and said fine, just do that. He told me it was $15.99 (the new one I needed was $17.99) I figured it was not worth the headache over a few bucks. Then, the next thing I know he stated he could not do it the manager would have to do the exchange. The manager comes over and now tells me that he can only give me $8.99 + tax back. I cannot believe that a store manager cannot do an override...he stated he could not! At this point I told him I no longer wanted to buy a new cartridge from them and thought their customer service was terrible. So I said I would just take the $8.99 back (I cannot believe they ever sold a printer cartridge for $8.99.) The manager then tells me he can only give me a store credit for the $8.99. At this point I'm about to lose it!! Just give me the stupid store credit and be done with it.....I don't ever want to go in that store again to buy anything!! read more
