The store is really big, clean, well organized, and brightly lit. I've never walked into a Staples where there is a greeter to greet you and direct you to where to go depending on your needs. The greeter was super friendly! I had an online return of an item and was directed to proceed to the cashiers because it was all one line. I never understand the lassitude of cashiers. A high school-aged guy made eye contact and but didn't speak. No hello, no "How can I help you?", no smile, nothing. I told him I wanted to do a return, and still he didn't speak. He walked over to another cashier and asked if she knew how to do an online return. The other cashier told him how to, and he completed it successfully and fairly quickly and handed me a receipt when it was done. I've never had a more silent "conversation" before. When I was in retail, we were expect to at least speak to customers. read more

DO NOT BUY CARTRIDGES FOR A PRINTER at this store unless you take the following precautions: (1) Take a printed receipt at the time of purchase as opposed to an emailed receipt; (2) Have proof that your printer was in good working condition such as a manual or other document indicating age of printer; and (3) Do not rely on anything said to you by phone - even by a "manager" - about the process of returning defective products. The people inside the store, prior to making my purchase were helpful; they sincerely seemed to want to provide good customer service. Yet, when I returned to the store with the cartridges that I purchased the day that I purchased them, I was chastised by an assistant manager for not having the name of the "manager" with whom I spoke by phone about the problem I was having with the cartridges. The assistant manager made no attempt to track down the "manager" with whom I spoke to iron out the possible miscommunication. The assistant manager's objective was certainly NOT customer satisfaction, but simply keep the customer's money. read more

I am writing this review to inform customers about my unsatisfactory experience at this store today. I dropped in to pick up one item. Then I picked 2 other items because they were on sale. One item was marked ~ 13% from the list price; the second item was marked 30% from the list price. I did not mind the long line because I understand that it's back to school weekend. After going through the check out line, I read my receipt and saw that I did not receive the advertised discounts. I was charged full price for the 2 additional items I purchased. I was also charged a bag fee when I did not ask for it. I returned to the store, took photos of the advertised items (2) and asked to speak to the manager. I was directed to once more - go through the long-line to request for the discounted price. I finally got to the check out line, and the sales person assisting me gave the discount back. Another customer at the next check out register was having a similar experience. She was being charged a price at the checkout stand -- different from what's advertised on the shelf. I would have to say that the store is either disorganized or may truly be falsely advertising for a gain. Go figure. read more

I went to Staples to get some notebooks and some cables and chargers for my iPhone and apple watch for the car and at home. I knew what I wanted but I never know what exactly each end attachment is called and where they are located on the racks. Saw an employee and told him I need help with some cables. He said he was helping another customer and I thought he said he'd help me when he finished with her. I stopped in front of a likely electronics rack and started looking. After several minutes with no one in sight I took my notebooks up front and saw two employees (one was my guy) standing around yakking with each other and no customers in line. I told the one who I had been waiting for that here two people were, no customers, and I needed help and was unable to find what I wanted. He kind of shrugged. We had some back and forth where his answer was always "I was helping other customers." Finally I said, you won't even say you're sorry or offer to help me now." He shrugged again. This is capitalism at its typical--what does he care? No benefit from making a sale. As long as no manager is watching his behavior, why should he bother? I hate this place. read more

5 days later and my same day shipping labels are still not ready. Un-freaking-believable! When I came in 24 hours after ordering them, the sales associate said that their computers were down, but they can print them now in 20 minutes. I let him know that I don't have 20 minutes to wait, so I'll come back tomorrow. Fast forward 4 days later. Thank goodness I called to see if they were ready. After being on hold for more than 20 minutes, I was told that my labels were still not ready because they were having problems with their printer and playing catch up. When I talked to another sales associate, she mentioned that they are working on a huge order right now so they are backed up. WTH does that have to do with my order that I placed 5 days ago?! Don't offer same day printing services if you guys can't handle it. This place is a hot mess. Seriously. Do yourself a favor and have your printed needs done elsewhere. It's your typical staples. You find yourself running there in times of office emergency. Need reinforcements? Oh wait, you're probably not in 4th grade. Need those plastic stand up signs you can put 8 and a half by 11 inch paper into to display on a table? They got you on that! Though I did recently find them on sale at Michael's- but thats beside the point. Why am I writing a review of staples? It is pretty much equivalent to writing a review on 7-11: "They had a large coke selection. It seems that every time I go there I can't get a slurpee- rather I get tepid sugar syrup." I have to give it to them on customer service. I went in and was greeted immediately by a Staples employee. I asked him where those Avery stick on labels were and he was on top of his game. He brought me right to the section and asked me what size I needed. I wasn't able to tell him because I didn't know myself! He asked if there was anything else I needed ( and not wanting to leave him waiting for me to make my decision (which can sometimes take days)- I told him I was fine. So, I finally figure out which ones I needed and started looking for index cards. Another separate gentlemen takes me this section and asked if there is anything else I needed. I told him that I might as well ask him where construction paper is while I have him. He took me the section and did, what I could only call, a Michael Scott routine. He was soooo goofy. He repeatedly jokingly asked me if I also needed colored glue sticks and also tried pass them off to a kind young lady who was looking around as well. It was purely innocent awkward joking. So, I went up to the register and there was a little line forming- not more than 4 separate parties. The manager was on top of it, rushing past the small line and calling for reinforcements. No, not paper reinforcements, he's not in 4th grade. Real people reinforcements! He minimized what could have been a 5 minute wait to a 1 minute wait. Good job staples manager. Your store shows your strong leadership. And no, I'm not sleeping with the manager at Staples... I'm sleeping with the assistant manager. Just kidding! Just kidding! It was just a great experience at a store that I don't usually expect a high level of customer service out of. read more

On Friday, Nov 23, Black Friday, we decided to visit the nearby Staples here in Rockville, MD, on the Pike to see if a work chair was discounted, the McCallum bonded leather Managers chair. It was $5 less than the week before when it was also on sale. They had only black and no gray so the salesperson said we should still pay instore and go to the kiosk where he ordered it in store and it would arrive by Tuesday. So we bought it. No less than 18 hours later, Saturday, Nov 24, the day after Black Friday, there is a 20% sale. We returned to the nearby store in person and asked to return and take advantage of the 20% discount. He said it had to be done via the call center. We then went home and called the call center per the store associates instructions just before 8 pm. I call, the representative does not seem to make sense, and transfers me to a store in New Jersey. That associate puts me on hold and tries understand why we were transferred there. So, we hang up and try again. The call center is "... now closed." So, today, I call the Staples call center once again and speak with 'Aime' (this is how she spelled it out to me) to explain what occurred. Aime informs me the flash sale was only good the prior day which was frustrating as I had explained how we were misdirected the prior day by the prior call center representative. Then she says that this should be solved in the store regardless of the fact that the sales associate the prior day stated it could not be done in store and had to be solved at the call center level. At one point, she added, she did not have the authority to change or re-apply the coupon from the prior date. For us, it would have been an extra $15-20 off but after the multiple conversations, time expended, lack of coordination, misdirection and lack of problem solving skills, we cancelled it. read more

I went to buy a printer here after Best Buy didn't have the one I wanted in stock. The selection is much better than Best Buy and the prices were the same. On the other hand, many of the models are just display models that don't actually work. Do you research before if you go. My biggest complaint is they badger you like crazy to buy ink!!! No less than three people came up to me and told me I needed to buy ink. The last straw was the hard sell the manager-type guy gave while I was paying at the register warning me my printer could run out of ink after one day and I needed a warranty. There's a way to do your job without being annoying. I beat the odds and still have ink. (And Amazon has way cheaper ink!) read more

I used the TSP advertised service at Rockville Pike location and made reservation on line. I arrived 5 minutes early and there were 8 people in front of me without appointments. One worker painstakingly enters data into a tablet device that takes a very ling time. After waiting for 30 minutes I couldn't wait any longer and had to depart. One person in line had the same appointment time as me. TSP and Staples need to budget more time for appointments or add more workers. False advertising and extremely poor service with no management oversight. Employee did best she could but is overwhelmed. read more

If you're a small business owner, steer clear of the print shop here. I used the online portal to submit a print order. When I showed up, the staff had re-sized the order to a smaller sheet of paper. "This didn't seem like a normal request", they said. One day lost. Come back the next day, new staff people on site. Now they have the right size paper, but the image is oriented incorrectly. Even though the online portal allows you to create the layout for your order, staff tell me I have to spend an extra $5 per sheet of paper for a "design charge". I ask why I can make the design and pay online, but then have to pay 10x the price in store for design services. They tell me they don't know, but that I can call the 1-800 number to find out. They then hand me a phone. That's like going to a mechanic, and the mechanic telling you to call up the manufacturer to figure out how to fix the car and tell them. I told them it wasn't my job to understand why their store couldn't receive an online order, and they finally said they would find out and call me. Guess if that call ever came. Service here is a joke. When I finally got my print, the ink was even running so it looked terrible. There are a number of other print shops in the area, including a Fed-Ex/Kinkos up the street that is happy to help, no up-charge at all. read more

I don't know how many times I've come in here for last minute office supplies. It's always quiet when I come here, and I'm not so sure why, but this is a good staples location. I know it seems ridiculous to give Staples 5 stars, but honestly, this was the smoothest, most helpful Staples run I've ever had. To start with, I am greeted the moment I walk in. Also, all the signs to all the various departments/areas aren't impeded by other displays or signs, so I could tell *exactly* where I need to head to. Then once I'm in the aisle I needed, before I could begin to get frustrated by not finding what I need, a staff member comes up to me to ask what I need. I describe what I'm looking for ("iron paper t-shirt thingies" is I think what I said...yeah, I wasn't expecting anyone to actually *help me) and he immediately leads me to that section. Once he's sure that I'm OK, he doesn't bother me with any additional chit chat (which I hate...it's like, thanks for showing me what I need, now can you please go away so I can figure out which brand/type/style I need?) and politely steps away while I mutter under my breath. Fast and polite and helpful. My goodness...what a crazy concept! read more

Walked in to drop a package off at UPS within this Staples store, A Staples employee walks up, does not speak one word, doesn't smile or even look at me, scans my bag, puts it on the other counter, gives me a receipt, walks away. No hello, no customer service courtesy, nothing. I just stood there in shock. Meanwhile they're all walking around wearing little backpacks looking ridiculous as can be, which is probably why he had a bad attitude. Won't be coming back here! read more

Not only is this the largest Staples I've ever visited, but the staff were all SUPERB! We went there five days ago for two reasons: to bring *333* pounds of paper for shredding (that's not a typo; we were cleaning out my aunt's condo and apparently she never threw away any papers), and to buy various packing supplies for all of the items we were donating via Salvation Army pick-up. I'd called the store in advance and had spoken to a very pleasant manager named April. April was also there on that day and she was very helpful, plus she was as pleasant in person as she was on the phone. We also received help from another manager on duty (they have more than one at any given time, due to the size of this store) - Steven - and he was very nice. A wonderful young clerk named Leo helped us a lot; he brought all the (very heavy) boxes of papers from our car to the Copy & Print section for shredding, he helped my husband find the items we needed to buy, and he then brought our purchases (huge boxes/etc.) to our car. Leo was as friendly as he was helpful. Lastly; Carlos in the Copy & Print section dealt with the humongous amount of papers to be shredded and he was very friendly. This store is also very clean and it's *incredibly* well-stocked. read more

Pros: Very large store with great lighting and aisle markers. Cons: Limited supply on shelves today. Poor customer service and engagement from staff and the manager. Neither stopped what they were doing to make eye contact and speak one on one. Both spoke loudly, almost shouting, from where they were rather than walking to customer to 1) greet and 2) speak directly. The manager, well, he just did some sort of drive by, never breaking his stride from wherever he was headed. Since supplies can be purchased most anywhere, I do not see a need to return, particularly since I received such a "take it or leave it attitude". The customer experience here was not positive and when a manager's actions and communication are not customer focused, it is a big indication of what can be expected. Tip: It is not always what you say, it is about the manner in which you say it in both verbal and nonverbal communication. read more

It's spring cleaning time so we decided to make a stop at Staples recently to pick up some stuff to organizer our ridiculous number of papers. Yes, there is a container store around the corner but why pay $6 for a file folder when I can buy a box of 100 from Staples for the same price? So why three stars? First the parking lot is a pain. It's a challenge and frequently worry that I will be killed as I attempt to get out of the lot. Second, we also were looking to buy a paper shredder for our apartment. We aren't looking for anything too heavy duty, but something that can run for more than 2 minutes and doesn't jam when more than one sheet entered would be great. Unfortunately, they only carry that type and those that are designed for a busy office. As we live in the electronic age, it is almost mandated that everything we do and everything we need access to is by way of our "smart phones". Flip phones are almost obsolete, and if you don't text, you may as well be from the dark ages. While I'm never one to be left behind, I have refused to step forward and join the masses who manage their lives and day to day activities via Scrybe, Cozi, or a plethora of other on line organizers which cater to today's lifestyle in a cohesive and intuitive way. My personal choice? The At-A-Glance Desk Planner. My old school pen and paper method has served me well through out my career thus far, and I'm not about to change just yet. There is something about having the ability to flip through the pages and look at an entire calendar view, along with millions of notes, phone numbers, addresses, and points of contacts that I've scribbled in and around the monthly view section during the year. I realize that I'm not getting instant message pop-ups reminding me that my sister's 30th birthday is just around the corner, but there is no power cord to worry about because my planner does not need to EVER be recharged. And the system never freezes, or shuts down when I need to access something immediately. The size may be slightly cumbersome compared to that of a phone, but I'm not paying a monthly bill to keep it active either. And the one place I find my favorite planner every year, despite the latest and greatest phones on the market: Staples on Rockville Pike. read more

I went for some copy services- made some custom. Really rough time, couldn't get what I wanted and what I settled for took so long. It seems the service really depends on the copy person and manager on the floor at the time- some very nice but not technically knowledgeable, some knowledgeable and nice, and some neither. I called and asked about bulk rates on copies and they wouldn't tell me unless I came into the store. Once there, I found the base price I was told on the phone was wrong. They also didn't offer three hole punch and the USB port wasn't working. The employee there was rude; barking orders at people even though it wasn't crowded or rushed at all. This staples appears to be very organized by does not do tech support even so so.. Even though they say they do... very very poor service. hope you don't need to use your computer if you have a system problem and need a restore. they don't concentrate on you and hence call you and say its ready for pick up and bug you even when you tell them the software is coming in 2 DAYS BY FEDEX .. they called and said it was done. I took it home. thinking it was going to work like most computers do... But does not have a wi fi driver really. when i took it back today they ask me if it had one before. seriously.. the computer is 2 yrs old. just want my money back for the restore. Now please... after 2 calls AND 30 MINUTES .... still no answer... Can you say frustrated. read more

I bought Christmas cards via Groupon for this Staples store. The card was terrible. The photo was washed out/pinkish - nothing like the original. It was printed on cheap cardstock. What was worse was the apathetic attitudes of the two staff members. Neither could care less that I was not satisfied with my order. I was basically brushed off and told to contact Groupon for a refund. No offer to try and make me happy. They won't have me as a future customer. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. From an ex staples employee that gave staples 7 years of my life, this experience was the one you never want any customer to have. No one greeted me. Then walking to copy and print, when I came up with an order that would have been something I would have preferred someone to take there time and do for me since it's for my wedding, she quickly directed me to self serve without finding out what I needed. On top of that no warm welcome. No questions about what I was trying to print. Nothing. I understand copy and print gets busy, but that's no excuse to treat anyone like a bother.
