I usually like Staples in general, but this location was out of stock on a few products that I really needed. I went to the Balboa Ave location and they had everything in stock. This place was busy, so there were no workers available to help me find a few items. Make sure to sign up for their free rewards card. The people were very disorganized and they announced someone who was waiting for customer service for the entire 30 minutes I was there; at max there was 5 customers so it wasn't busy enough to have someone waiting that long. Also, when I asked for assistance on looking for an item I saw online thee person just led me to the area and took less than a minute to look for the item (didn't check stock) and then proceeded to say "just order it online" when I asked if he could check for me. read more

Ordered some office stuff online which I asked to be delivered to the store. It was Saturday afternoon when I got to the store at 3 pm. Store was empty. Reggie at the entrance was texting on his phone and not at all helpful. Told me the manager was busy with a client and I'd have to wait! Apparently no one else can help with on line orders. This is not about any one store, it's about Staples the company. I shop at the Vista, CA store and the people are quite helpful. But Staples' policies are extremely awkward. I recycle ink cartridges, but rather than get the $2 per cartridge up front, I must wait at least a month for them to notify me that I can print out a coupon and take it to the store. That coupon must be used within the next month or all will be lost. Why not give me the discount when I give them the cartridges? So it was with trepidation that I purchased an item on sale with an "Easy" rebate. I explained to the assistant manager that I felt Staples had anything but easy policies. So he helped me prepare my rebate. That was Easy. I left confident that I would receive my rebate since the assistant manager had filled out the form. Yesterday I received a notice from Staples that my rebate was denied because I hadn't filled in the paperwork correctly. Well, that was Easy, wasn't it? Just another example of Staples (the company) customer service. I don't think any Staples executive has ever shopped at Staples, or they would end their silly, inconvenient, near useless policies. read more

I stopped in to print a simple 8.5x11 piece of paper to create a little sign for a showcase display today. I approached Jonathan in the print department which turned out to be a huge let down. He basically informed me that they now have a 24hr (not listed online) turn around policy for any project and he handed me a self-printout card directional. This card guided me to use machines that accept card only (I wanted to pay with cash). I asked for help hoping to see if I could pay cash, and Jonathan said one second as he helped the next customer in line that was picking up a large order. I was obviously forgotten about. I asked the front desk for a manager to see if could get some help and the manager guided me to the self-help machine again. Jonathan obviously wanted to make it look like he was doing a good job to his boss, so he walked over to assist further informing the manager that "rush projects" (I wasn't aware I had a rush project) were not going to be taken on today. Because of the attitude presented by Jonathan, I've decided to leave for Kinkos to help me elsewhere, and here's my ONE STAR review in response to this poor customer service experience. read more

Service and employee training keeps getting worse. Spent a half hour trying to get help buying a printer. Did Google research while I waited and after finally getting a customer service rep she didn't know anything and had to look stuff up as well. long story short I found the answer to my question on my own and the whole experience was less than desirable. The price was incredible but again if you can only have price service and or quality I got price and quality (purchesed as epson printer) with zero service. Also when I finally ended up checking out I was charged too much and had to go back for a refund. Too bad so sad. read more

I've been to many a Staples in my day and this might possibly be the worst. Employees embarrassing employees in front of customers, employees huffing and puffing throughout every transaction, and just general incompetence. I would demand a refund if I decided to stay and purchase my items, but I couldn't bare the thought of perpetuating the cycle by giving them the satisfaction of another paying customer! read more

Never come here for your print services if you are REMOTELY on a time crunch. Not kidding. These guys do not try to help with efficiencies. I have tried it at least 6 times and it should have only taken 2 times to realize slow-mo is their motus operande, the only language they speak. I always come prepared with a flash drive AND/or a print code ready to scan but even that doesn't help. Out of 2 "available" self-service printers only ONE is in operation and the other one has been semi-permanently out of order like a dinosaur exhibit in the corner. Murphy's law says that there will probably be at least 1 person in front of you but more likely there will be 2-3 people. Of course at least one of these people won't know how to use the self-service machine and require help which defeats the purpose of it being self-service. So now you're looking at a 30+ minute wait time for a job that literally should only take 5 minutes or less. If you happen to ask for help from a member of the team they will simply tell you they can help you WITHIN THE HOUR putting you begin any queue they are working on. Even if you literally just have a code that needs to print a job under 10 pages. This is the equivalent of a grocery store having no "express lane checkout" and how annoying is that?? There is literally NO WAY for them to help you with your print job if you walk in with a code. You are at the mercy of incompetent people in front of you and an inefficient staff that is unfamiliar with customer service. Do NOT go to this location looking for fast help. Drive and deal with the traffic to the one on Rosecrans. I've had MUCH better luck there. read more

I always come to Staples first. The prices are slightly cheaper (by cents, not dollars) to Office Depot and when I buy in bulk Staples is a better choice. At this location they have a huge selection of anything office you can think of. They also recycle your empty ink cartridges in exchange for rims of paper which is a great incentive if you use a lot of paper. The staff is always knowledgeable here and have been mostly helpful and nice (with the exception of the obvious new hire). There is plenty of parking in their lot. I only wish this location was located closer to home. read more

Knowing this is Staples' busy season especially in the printing/marketing section, I was truly blown away with the help I received from Steve & Michaela with my holiday card order. Not only did they help troubleshoot an issue with the file I had uploaded, but regardless of how busy they were with other customers, they checked in with me every 15 minutes to give me an update on my order knowing I had a time crunch. I came in here to mail something out. When I first walked in I was immediately greeted by what looked like a store manager and he pointed me in the right direction. Great first impression, it all went downhill after that. When I arrived at the counter where the postal services are there were 3 women back a little further behind the counter all staring at me, but continuing their gossip. No one came to help me for what felt like 5 minutes. When someone finally came she asked me what I needed and I told her I wanted to mail some documents. She then proceeded to look in the computer and see that none of the shipping info was in there. Apparently the from and to address needs to be entered into the computer. All of this was written out on my envelope. I'm not sure if its protocol for them to enter it or for them to turn the computer and have you do it, but she had me do it and walked away. I have never had to enter that before usually the postal workers do that. She proceeded to the back and started chatting it up with her coworkers again. So once I finished I had to stand there and wait AGAIN for her to finish talking and come assist me. I then paid for it and was out of there. There was no one else waiting in line and I felt like I could have been in and out of there much quicker. Maybe next time I'll just go to the post office. read more

Jess in biz center went out of her to assist me! I was trying to get information from mri disc. The rental computer would not read so before I left, she checked this disc on two other computers including one in the back in order to ensure we could not get the info. Unfortunatly it was not possible but to have an associate so go out of her way to assist was truly exceptional and appreciated far more than you know. Thx jess and staples!!! read more

Their customer service and Easy Tech is almost as bad as another big box store in the area. My recommendation is, as I did, if you desire customer service or repairs go to a locally owned computer repair store. Besides your hard earned money stays in San Diego. I will never shop at this chain again, even if it is for a ream of computer printer paper. read more

There is no Staples in Hawaii so it's a bit of a treat to visit one when I'm on the mainland. This time, I actually found a few things to buy. I asked a few questions about where things were and the employees didn't mind walking me over instead of just pointing. Ended up buying only two things even though I asked a lot of questions. In general, Staples is a bit on the overpriced side if you ask me. However, they do dominate the market when it comes to obtaining a variety of office supplies fast, otherwise I'd say just get whatever it is you're looking for online. One thing I do highly recommend is checking out their clearance section in the back! Much more affordable and so many random things that a stationery junkie like me has a field day digging through. Walked out with a green $10 moleskine notebook! Regular price is around $20+, but I didn't mind the "off-colored" ones they had on the back wall. Green, red, yellow.. those seem fine to me. My favorite color is green anyway :) Amazon had them for $11-ish, so I left Staples a pretty happy camper. read more

They do not do same day printing on everything they advertise. The good stuff gets sent off elsewhere. Such as booklets, catalogs and proposals. So the turn arounds is at least a week for outsourcing the work. I would suggest going straight to another source rather than a middle man. read more
