I am so impressed with the guy who helped me in tech support there. I called them to say that I'd been in earlier to buy print cartridges and when I loaded them in they all worked except the black one. The guy on the phone said to bring it in and he'd take a look for me. (Awesome right!!) When I got in there the older gal was like.. "u haven't used it for a year? The heads will be dry! It won't work! Your going to have to get a new printer". But the sweet guy played around and did he's tech thing and next minute it worked!!! "Legend"!! That's why I will always go back!! Wanted to buy in-store advertised office chair today. Omar, the sales associate, was very helpful and courteous. Did not have any in stock. Offered to order me one at sale price -- so far so good. Their computer would not bring up the chair as available, but I looked on my phone on Staples' website and found the chair, placed it in my cart, and showed it to him - but price was $20 more online. Manager would not either sell me the floor model at sale price or find a way to rebate me the $20 difference if I had to order. Manager, Jeanette, was curt and dismissive -- not willing to compromise at anything. I offered to take a gift card from the store for $20 difference and place the order at the higher price, but no, she was unwilling to be at all flexible. Told me to call corporate customer service. I will never go in this store again, but curious to know if they put the sign and chair back on the floor. read more

I purchased a new keyboard online for store pickup. They gave me a used/returned keyboard that was used in a health pandemic. Are you freaking kidding me? I see someone's oily finger on it. You can tell someone tried to cover it up by making it look nice. I only notice it because of the oily shift button, the broken seal and the keyboard being left on and the usb cable unwrapped. Manager said they can sell return product as new. WTF? read more

I visit this location often for work. It's Staples, so I'm not expecting a fabulous shopping experience, but my most recent visit was awful. Assistant manager Jamie is rude and downright combative. Ended up returning an item that I had planned to exchange, just so I could get out of there faster. Will never spend another $.01 of my own money there. read more

It's hard for me to believe that this staples has earned a two star rating! I bought a printer there less than six months ago. The sales clerk told me that for $15 I could buy a warranty that would make it super easy and convenient to return it if something went wrong with it. Well, something did go wrong, and they refused to honor the guarantee that they sold me. I will never do business with them again, They (the managers) have a total "who cares" attitude about customer satisfaction. read more

I've had nothing but excellent service, especially from the copy & print center. The copy center manager, Luis, and staff member Jean Claude both went above & beyond to help me get a (very) last minute job done by my deadline. Luis even helped me with a design/formatting problem I was having with my brochures- a problem that my company's designer should have caught himself but didn't and Luis was able to correct in 2 minutes- and saved the file for me to use in the future. I use Staples primarily for office supplies and the occasional print job, but use another company to print business marketing materials and promotional gifts. My relationship with that other company ends today. I am absolutely making the switch over to Staples. read more

My husband bought a Keurig 425 for me for Christmas and we were enjoying it until this morning. It made one cup of coffee and quit. He took it back expecting them to replace it...No! they said only within 14 days. We had just bought another one for our daughter last Friday and will be taking it back and getting a refund within the 14 days. Staples and other retailers complain about Amazon and other on line sellers, but they are their own worst enemy...When I buy an something from Amazon and have a problem, they will replace it or refund the purchase price and even send UPS to pick it up. My replacement coffee maker will be ordered from Amazon and we will never buy another appliance from Staples in Santa Cruz. read more

If you know what your looking for and the price of things Staples is okay. Mainly go for printer ink and toner. From time to time highlighters, makers, pens, ink and pencil lead. Fulfills the basic office needs. Easy to get to, which is primarily the main reason I go. read more

Bad service. Hard to find things and staff dont know where anything is if they even know what it is. Items are often not the price shown. Prices should be labeled ON the actual items, not on a shelf below the items, because things get moved around. read more

The company does not stand behind the inferior made products they sell. They require receipts, serial numbers and much more info than need-be when it come to an obvious mfg defect - directing the buyer to the mfg who's phone number they can't even find. Total corporate incompetence. It's amazing how much money they make from their inferior made products that cause the buyer to buy again and again because they've lost the receipt or tossed the box. They finally got rid if that "dorko-Dave" manager they had, but their return policy is still horrible when it comes to the "crap" they sell. I am very happy with this store. I stopped in needing a few specific things and something laminated. The store was clean and inviting and employees eager to help! They laminated my project for under 2 bucks and I had lots of fun browsing while they did it. They seemed to be very busy when I went in but I never had to wait. They don't have chairs in stock, just the display apparently. Stood in line for awhile to find out and the girl just stared at me like I was dumb. They don't know what they have in stock so you have to go get a number/ sku, go wait in line then they say yes or no... this is ridiculous- they can order it, if I am doing that I will get it from amazon cheaper! Some of the employees are very helpful other ones are absolutely rude. I politely asked a worker where an item was as he walked by. I was expecting to get a 5 second response pointing me in the direction I needed to go. Instead, Ernesto, just doesn't even stop walking or look at me and just raises the bag in his hand as he walks by and says "I'm on my break" with a really nasty attitude. I've never encountered a worker like this at any store in my life, so really bugged me. Another employee was helpful. Titan was his name. He helped make sure I found everything I needed and went above and beyond. I called their store to complain about Ernesto, but it seems like the manager there approves of this behavior. read more

This place had poor customer service i waited at the copy area forever while some usless kids was messing around with some sorta cards when i was the only one in line the i think his name was jessee said he could not laminate a simple cover page for my scrapbook. He was unfriendly and certinaly not knowlegable about anything. i was the only one in line. I cant even imagine if there was a line what sorta service i would have got then if any. Then i asked where the restroom was and they said it was broken and sent me and my 5 year old to the store across the parking lot. Have usually had trouble at this location, and today was no different. Got office furniture online and it came flawed. I called Staples Santa Cruz and the girl that answered said we don't have that product, I said I bought it from Staples online. She said hold on (after the phone had rung 25 zillion times to get her), and about 2 minutes later she said we don't do online returns at store, call 800 number have them pick it up. So much for the easy button. I used to live in Watsonville and shopped that Staples with great customer service, so we called (but decided to drive there and try to solve issue) were put on hold again for the whole ride there, when someone finally answered they were great, while we did have to drive from Capitola to Watsonville the service was hassle free and gracious. Problem solved. The store in Santa Cruz has downsized...they should close or fix their customer service. Thank goodness for the Staples in Wastonville!!! It was well worth the drive. read more

Every time I go into Staples in Santa Cruz I receive great service. Not sure why anyone would go anywhere else for basic office needs. They have a wide variety of choices and they always offer to help. I take my kids for school supplies and we get everything on the list in one trip. read more

Attempted to use their online ordering service that states your order will be ready in an hour. Two hours after placing the order, and shortly after I received the email saying my order was ready, I went to the store to pick up my prepaid purchase. First went to the checkout counter right by the front door, because I figured they would have my item there. At first, the employee behind the counter couldn't find my order in the system. I gave him the confirmation email, and a few minutes later, he found the order. But he didn't have the item there--I had to go to another counter to get it. So I went there, and they didn't have it--another employee was actually pulling the order for me, even though the email I received said my order was ready. And then an employee at a third counter had my item, but she couldn't ring me there--so I had to go back to the first counter, where I had to show my ID and sign some paperwork. I muttered that I was never going to use their online service again, and the older female employee (manager, maybe?) said it was standard practice for them to ask for ID when picking up an item. Well, sure, and I understand that. But pinballing between three different employees, three different counters and a lot of "I don't know" answers before finally getting the one item that was supposed to be waiting for me? Then when I went in on my limited lunch hr, there was 1 girl working who never looked up to say hello or it'll be awhile or how can I help you. Another man came in & answered the phone but again, never looked up to address those of us in line. Finally I walked away to ask someone else to just hand me my order, & then the girl asked what I wanted. Then said my order wasn't there. I assured her it was. She finally found it. Tried to get a copy made on a transparency. I was told copy machine uses toner and will melt the transparency. This is something that is done on every copy machine at every school and office supply store in America. Maybe doesn't understand what a transparency is? Probably best to get copies made where people are a little more knowledgeable. Also very rude. Wouldn't look at me. Told another clerk to tell me when I was standing right there. Went to office max. I ordered a nexus 7 2013 online and got it shipped to the store. It took took a little more than a week for it to arrove at the store. After a week of use I realized the touch screen wasn't registering all of my touches and that I had a defective unit. So I brought the unit back to the staples store for an exchange. When I asked to get it exchanged, they told me no can do because it was past their two weeks period.... Even though I've actually had it in my possession for less than 1... And they wouldn't budge no matter what. They just told me to send it into Google/Asus for repairs since it was still under warranty.. So all in all if you order something online, the 14 days return/exchange policy clock starts ticking the second you hit submit order not when you received it. read more

Bought a cable modem here, Comsys installer opened brand new box, tested it, declared it DOA. Brought back to store to exchange, but they refused, citing 2 week policy in fine print. This cost me 4 hours travel time, 2 days waiting for cable guy, $90 for alleged modem, and $7 per month renting a working one. Staples has seen the last of my money. read more

Like some of the other reviews, I too suffered poor communication from this location. Between my husband's small business and my professional needs, we have tried to use Staples services, but they continue to disappoint. I have finally learned my lesson; stick with SMALL AND LOCAL SHOPS. After no service improvements, missed deadline due to poor communication here, and then rude, condescending representative when I tried to check on the status (of which they have no record) I am compelled to write a negative review. Extremely frustrated, I went to a local small printing service and they couldn't have been more helpful with a MUCH shorter, reliable and quality work (30 minutes vs the Staples "24 hours" the asst. manager told me THEY HAVE to complete a job). I wonder if Staples' automated email "we will contact you if we have questions about your order" will actually contact??? read more

I went on Saturday to Staples to return a package to an Amazon affiliated company. I had a pre-printed return label on my package from the company. The employees who helped me were friendly, but inept. I was in the store for over 20 minutes trying to get the package sent. The first employee tried to help me, but could not get a price for my package. That employee called Cliff, the manager on duty, and he said restart the computer. Next, another employee came to help (two employees) and, after the computer rebooted, they had the same problem, so they both proceeded to call Cliff, the manager, and he just gave instructions over the microphone, again, (3X) but never came out of the office to help. Thanks Cliff. Long story short I took my package away and went to another UPS store a couple miles away, and there I quickly found out that UPS does not ship to PO boxes- so that store sent it regular mail- in about 2 minutes! Nice! Now I know. And I hope Cliff finds out soon! Maybe when he comes out of his office. read more

I love Staples, but I am so disappointed that the Santa Cruz store has been cut down in size because another business took part of its space! Really! Staples?? The SUPER STORE?? had to give up part of its space to a health center (at least that's what it look like from the signage). Now the store is way too small to have enough of a variety of products. Staples employees are still helpful, but it feels way out of proportion inside. Staples has been there a long time, and I do not understand the corporate mentality of whoever owns the land to allow another business to cut into Staples' space. (Yes, I know... DONT USE EASY TECH! Worst service i have ever received hands down. I came in today to fix my phone's broken screen which turned out to be a horrible mistake on my part. When I arrived to pick up my phone the guy at the easy tech desk said everything was working fine and showed me a working screen. Naturally I was a happy camper to see my phone working again, so i signed the release paper and walked out of the store. After i had walked out of the store i pressed my home button (Iphone 5s), and I discovered it didn't work anymore. I immediately walked back in the store and the guy at the desk said I could leave it and it would be done by 6pm. I came back to the store and there was a new guy at the front desk, who told me that i had signed the form saying the button was broken before they started and there was nothing he could do. I told the guy he could check my call record from when i called someone using Siri by holding the home button literally seconds before I dropped off the phone. The guy kept denying any responsibility saying that i must have dialed the number on my completely broken LCD. I ended up getting a $100 screen that isn't even secured in my phone properly and a complementary broken home button from the deal. Thanks staples. read more

I go in to find a printer that I can use to print from my iphone. They tell me to come back in a few weeks because they will have one. I come back in a few weeks and they sell me the HP printer thats supposed to fit my needs. After several days I give up on trying to get it working. I call the store and they tell me I can pay $100 to have a tech come to my house and get it working. I do that. The tech cant get it working. He does a little more research and finds out that this printer was never going to work with my iphone. At least the tech went to battle for me to get the printer returned but it was a major pain in the butt and then after all of that I have to box it all up and take it back to the store. Not sure that the guys they call their "technology experts" in the stores are really much more than sales people who just repeat what the sales reps tell them about product. I did what I should have done to begin with... ask my friends for recommendations on what printer to buy. I did that and now I have the product that works. It did not come from Staples BTW. read more
