THE go-to spot for AUTHENTIC Polish baked goods and sweets. I grew up in and Greenpoint and going here for almost 30 years. My parents, who are born and raised from Poland and came to America would come every weekend to order makowiece (polish poppy seed rolls), sernik (polish cheesecake), and paczki (donuts). I remember the owner always giving me a little sweet treat or lollipop when I was a little girl. The lines were wrapped around the store growing up! A true Polish staple in what was once called "Little Poland". As the neighborhood started to change..it created quite an impact on Polish small businesses. I would highly recommend Star deli -- the quality is the same as I remember growing up. My parents and I will still order from them when we stop by Greenpoint and also order their baked goodies for Christmas and Easter. Which if you are Polish, you know how important GOOD sweet treats are during the holidays. There are so many newly popping up chains and tik-tok famous spots that are meh and over-priced. Best local polish bakery in greenpoint! Each cake and cookies are very classic and very fabulously done. If this is your first time visit I recommend the carrot cake and apple strudel. Of course the poppy seeds rolls are amazing. And here is why--- Carrot cakes are so moist, good amounts of carrot balanced well with roasted walnut and a layer of chocolate ganache frosting on top. Apple strudel has excellent apple chucks and apple FLAVORS which is hard to get. Also the fun part for eating apple strudel is that you can actually taste each ingredient individually. Each bite you get some apple and some crumbles! Try to pair it with some vanilla ice cream! Cookies also have excellent texture soft moist and melt in your mouth. You can tell this bakery does not take any short cuts. They keep everything fresh and all ingredients up to the high standards. THIS IS THE PLACE FOR PACZKI!! $1 dessert from heaven! I stumbled upon this place with my friend when i was walking along Nassau and I have been back every single week! I can only comment on one thing in particular about this store and it is their polish Paczki donuts :D The Paczki donuts are delicious round donuts that are filled with raspberry jelly which you cant miss out! These donuts in particular are glazed (I have other ones that are powered sugar or plain) and are always freshly baked. 2 times out of 3 the donuts are still warm as they just came out of the oven. Also they are only $1 each which makes for a great cheap treat! Conclusion: $1 for an amazing warm donut.. cant get any better! read more

Maybe the most Polish place to buy donuts in all of Greenpoint. Just straight up raw Poland. Even their change trays - those dopey ashtray things that Europeans love to use as a middleman instead of handing you your nickels and dimes directly - are all in Polish. It may be the most faithful recreation of a sketchy Polish convenience store in the entire country. And the donuts almost live up that ambience. In Polish terms, their selection is epic. Most places give you one glazed paczki and one with powdered sugar, then call it a day. Star comes through with the paczki, but then leaves the reservation with two different kinds of dough braids, one of which - brace yourself- also has jam in it! Unfortunately, that jam is Star's downfall. Its rivals all bloat their paczki with variations on fresh, handmade berry jams - Star Deli just settles for clumpy, store-bought blackberry stuff. Sad times, and a total betrayal of their dough, fry, and glaze. Jam isn't my favorite part of a paczki, but bad jam is my least favorite part. When you're slogging your way through all that bread, there's nothing to look forward to. read more

Being Polish and knowing what authentic Polish food tastes like, I choose to drive my husband crazy and split my shopping between several stores depending on my craving, when visiting from Connecticut. He drives me and patiently awaits in the car, we stuff our faces on the 2+ hour's drive back home. I visit Star just for the baked goods in the window display, I never get anything else there. All the baked goods are very, very good. The store is very small, staff is friendly but if you don't speak Polish expect to point with your finger and smile back. read more

The worst deli and Bakery in Nassau street. I bought a few of their pastries and they were all hard as rocks and dry. As for Deli, more like a hodgepodge selection of the most useless things.
