I recently went in to buy a Miata, after discussing the details of the deal we came to an agreement, Raymond the salesman lied to me about filling out a credit application and tried to run my credit without me knowing. I said multiple times that I did not want it to be run, because I was pre approved and he was filling out the credit application behind the screen, and when I asked to see the screen he tried to hide what he was filling out. I spoke to the manager and he was ok with Raymond running my credit without my permission, and said, "That's how they needed to do business." We were here a little over two months ago for two issues. One of them being that the display would keep disconnecting from our phones. The only way to reconnect is to turn off the car open the door turn off and on my Bluetooth on my phone in order for it to reconnect, sometimes. Our service advisor, advices that we would need to have only one phone connected. He also advised me that he did an update on the hardware. The issue continues, but we've learned to ignore it. The other issue was our door panel which stopped turning on (this is the panel that lights up "CX-50". We paid extra money for the package and this shit stopped working within the year. They removed the panel and ordered a new one, they were going to call me once they received it. 2 months later, I was the one that called THEM for an update. Turns out they had the part already but didn't bother to call me and if they did, I didn't get a vm or a follow up call. We now had an issue with the sunroof, it stopped opening. I was told by their service department that it would only take a "few hours", so my wife dropped off the car on Friday. They gave her a cheap and small rental car ( I was told we would get the same model or better) for the day, I didn't mind since it would only be a few hours. When I called for an update on Friday around 4 pm, I was greeted by a gentleman that kept saying that only my advisor can help me! We needed our car over the weekend and my advisor was no where to be found. How the FK does that make sense, only my adviser has access to the system? What if my adviser is sick for the new week, am I supposed to wait for him to return to get an update? Now, Monday I called in at 8am and got customer service. They told me that Andrew would be asked to call me. I got a text message from him about 30 minutes later advising me that they order a part to fix the sunroof. I called them again at 11am because I specifically asked for a call, not a dam text message. Again, Andrew no where to be found. He was with a client, this seems to be the case. Apparently some clients are more important than others!? I was advised by the rep that nobody else can help me. Not only is my vehicle taking longer than what I was told, but also their system structure is stupid and a headache. If I am going to be assigned only one representative than that rep needs to be available for my calls. Otherwise, make the system accessible to all technicians and ANSWER the dam phone! I am very disappointed with the service we received, thank God we purchased our vehicle at a different location (Alhambra). read more

Horrible experience with their service dept. years ago - took literally 2-3 hours to get a simple oil change, then they tried to tell me all these things were wrong with my car... I had a feeling this was sus and took it to my normal mechanic and yeah, nothing was wrong. The car has run just fine for 2+ years. Because of this, I've never gone back - however, they clearly took my info from this one service visit and targeted me for YEARS to buy my 2014 Mazda2. Now, again, years later (and having just received a targeted offer in the mail less than a month ago), I'm finally ready to sell my car... I contact them and could not have been met with less of a s---. They acted like they didn't have any info on my car and needed to inspecit it again. I'm not in the area and said I could send in photos - the guy (Nathen Nazarian) responded with a thumbs up (??? super unprofessional and rude), and then when I sent in photos and the offer letter he literally ghosted. Stopped responding. Now you tell me why they would do this -- they either have bizarre and predatory marketing targets or they're negligent. I'd say both. Just go to another dealership. read more

Perhaps you, like me, had a generally positive experience purchasing a vehicle from Star Mazda and now need it serviced. I'm here to warn you: If you value your time/money, want to deal with honest/thorough professionals, and desire strong customer service you should really go elsewhere. Headlines: Based on my experience, Star Mazda will a.) not do basic troubleshooting/research to fix your underlying issue, b.) instead recommend expensive service/full system replacement, c.) use your visit as an opportunity to upsell other services at a 40% higher price than other mechanics, d.) won't call you back, e.) will charge you 3% extra for the luxury of using a credit card to pay for their overpriced service. The Full Story: I brought my 2018 Mazda 3 into Star Mazda a few weeks ago because the infotainment system kept inexplicably crashing. I was charged around $100 for diagnostics. I received a text message with a video and inspection report while I waited at a nearby coffee shop. They updated the firmware and suggested a replacement of the full system ($685) if that was unsuccessful. Of course, they also did a full inspection and suggested a number of other services. Notably, they recommended I replace the belt tensioner and drive belts ($660). I'm no mechanic, but I declined that service because a quick Reddit search indicated I could probably do much better on price. I picked up my car and was disappointed that the firmware update hadn't fixed the infotainment system issue. Before resigning myself to an expensive repair, I did another quick internet search. Lo and behold - I discovered this is a known issue. I read obscure Mazda forums and learned about a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for a bad batch of SD cards for the vehicle's satellite navigation system. These cards overwhelm the infotainment system and cause issues in colder temperatures. I removed the card and the issue hasn't reoccurred since. As for the belt tensioner, I've received two quotes from local ASCCA-certified mechanics for around $400, or about 40% less than the quote from Star Mazda. I called the service department to follow up with questions like: Why weren't they (of all mechanics/service providers) aware of Mazda's TSB? Why hadn't they researched the issue or troubleshot the SD card before recommending a full system replacement? I couldn't reach a service advisor. Someone took down my information and I never received a call back. That is the type of customer service you receive in exchange for their premium prices! If you choose to ignore my advice and make a service appointment at Star Mazda, please be advised that they charge a 3% fee for credit card transactions. I've gotten my Mazda3 serviced here a number of times, and i have found them quick and courteous if a little pricey. This time around, after getting a list of recommended services requiring "immediate attention" that totaled over $2000, I decided to get a second opinion. I'm so glad that I did. The most expensive service on the list--a front suspension for over $1000--was, according to my mechanic, entirely unnecessary, and he was able to complete the rest of the services for substantially less than what was being quoted to me. They clearly work for commission here and they very clearly and flagrantly upsell. I will not take my car here again. read more

Aside from the thousands of dollars of suggested repairs that must be done immediately every time you take your car for maintenance, I had always thought well of this place. That changed recently. After a maintenance and some repairs, I noticed some resistance when driving and I had to apply more pressure to drive. I called them the next working day and told them about the issue. I also explained I could only come on weekends, The call center person got a special approval from the manager for me to bring my car on a saturday. I made a saturday appointment based on that, However when I got there on Saturday I was told several things - that they couldn't work on my car on a saturday,. They would charge me for diagnostics. I had taken a week to bring my car back and my favorites - their maintenance could not have caused any issues. The problem would have to be with the decade old car. Like another user here said before the problems did not exist before their intervention. The person who had been so obsequious when I went to get the maintenance done was quite rude and refused to accept any responsibility. read more

Service Review: Star Mazda's Service never falters in my opinion. They always provide great customer service at every level. They recently upgraded some customer facing communications and it's awesome! Regarding communicating or updating a customer regarding their pending service, a customer now receives both text and email updates with URL links to their service website. Not only that you get video updates on suggested service from the tech working on your vehicle. It's those nice touches that in my opinion makes stand out as one of the best in my opinion. The service advisor said he'd reach out to Mazda corporate and let me know what he found out in a week. A week passes, no call, so I reach out and leave a voice mail. No response. I let that sit for a few days and call back to leave another voice mail. Nothing. A week later, I send an email. Crickets. I get that there's probably not a ton of incentive to get a warranty repair taken care of but come on, being ignored sucks. I've never had amazing luck with dealer service departments but I've never felt so blatantly like they just don't care at all. That certainly seems to be the case here. Communication here is 95% automated with nice form messages, texts and auto requests to 'click here ' for a quote to buy your car and 'click here' to approve service add-ons. Although each request included a personal name and contact number, when I called requesting more info on service status and suggested add ons, no one answered my calls or responded to my texts. My family and I had always brought either a Toyota or Honda (assembled in Japan ) My mom had loved VW and had in the past (years ago...more like centuries ago ) but the last VW she purchased was not assembled in Germany and right after purchasing the new VW, there was nothing but problems. Since our Toyota and Hondas were all assembled in Japan (look at the VIN #...it starts with J) we never experienced any issues. We buy a new car every 10-years or so, that means, when we purchase a new car, we expect it to last 10-years (mind that you remember to keep up with maintenance services...as my dad, who was a mechanic ‍, would say, "If you take care of your car, your car will take car of you.") So, when I decided to purchase a new car, I already had in mind the following: must be assembled in Japan , must be within my budget (as it was being purchased in full), must be a certain type of car body style (Compact SUV), and must be a certain color (White...which could be negotiable if the price was right, in another color). I went to several car dealerships (Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, and Subaru) and got quotes. At those dealerships I felt so much stress and anxiety. As I shared, I knew exactly what I was looking for (Lexus UX, Toyota Rav, Nissan Rogue, and Subaru Forester...I checked inventory to confirm that these were assembled in Japan ) I felt like the sales reps didn't hear or just didn't care about what I specifically wanted. It felt like they were only interested in closing the sale and trying to increase their commission by either forcing me to buy a more expensive car or buy all the unnecessary add-ons. I even caught one dealership trying to do some very questionable things; I point blank confronted them. If your gut is telling you something (making you sick to your stomach) then follow your gut...cuz 99.9% it's right on. I met with Brian Kim at Star Mazda and he helped ease my stress and anxiety. I actually felt like someone was listening to me, acknowledging my needs, and he did everything he could (within his power) to make it happen. Yes, he did offer me couple choices but didn't pressure me or give me a look of disgust cuz I had chosen not to go with those options (as I was made to feel by the other dealerships) He understood that I was only car shopping (getting quotes) so I could reflect and make a prayerful decision as to what car to go with; remember, this car is going to last me another 10-years. Plus, this is a big purchase, there's no going back, so when you drive off the lot, you got to feel happy about it and that it has met what you envisioned yourself driving for the next 10-years. Besides Brian Kim excellent service, I must add that the rest of the staff, manager and finance agent (I did pay in full; the finance agent is the one who handles all the paperwork), were amazing; informative, understanding and patient. Unfortunately, the day I went to get my car, Brian Kim was off that day, but he made sure that Francisco was there to assist me every step of the way. Even on his day off, Brian Kim immediately returned my text messages and took my calls, so to make sure someone at the dealership would be taking care of me. Francisco was so patient and really took the time to go over every detail of my new 2021 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring (in white ) If you want excellent customer service, feeling like you are being heard, then come to Star Mazda and see Brian Kim. I am taking them to court. I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of great concern regarding a vehicle purchase from Star Mazda on July 24, 2023. I acquired an Audi 5, and within 30 days of the purchase, the check engine light illuminated. When I approached Star Mazda's service department for assistance, I was advised to take the vehicle to Audi for inspection as they do not handle repairs for Audi vehicles. This situation has led to significant distress and financial strain as the vehicle, which was expected to be covered under a 2-year full engine/transmission agreement, faced issues soon after the purchase. Star Mazda's redirection to Audi for inspection was unexpected and added an extra layer of complexity to the situation. To provide some context, I had initially purchased a Mazda C3 from Star Mazda in February following a car accident that resulted in the total loss of my previous vehicle. Unfortunately, the Mazda C3 proved to be unsuitable for my needs as it caused severe back pains due to its low design. After several test drives, I opted to trade in the Mazda C3 for the Audi 5 based on Star Mazda's assurance that it was inspected and in excellent condition. Moreover, I was promised a 2-year full engine/transmission agreement to provide peace of mind regarding potential issues. Given these circumstances, I believe I am owed compensation of $8000 for the purchase of a defective vehicle and the subsequent failure to honor the agreed-upon warranty. ****Please Read Before Going to This Dealership for Service**** Alfredo Flores in the service department is a con artist and an upright crook and deserves to be fired. I came in to Star Mazda with a simple request that being that I needed 2 keys reprogrammed for my car. I left my car at the dealer and later that afternoon I received a call with a quote stating that the service will come to $995 for the keys. This is when I knew something was fishy as it was the highest quote I've gotten, so I asked for an itemized receipt. Shockingly the receipt (attached to review) reflected almost $2000 worth of labor 99% of which was not asked upon in my original request. Along with this the labor alone for reprogramming 2 keys was $390. Due to this I started calling some Mazda dealerships for a quote. The very generous service employees of Perry Mazda and Galpin Mazda both quoted me the price of two transmitters $273 each (expensive but as reflected online) plus a half hour of labor ($100) totaling $646. An astonishing difference from $2000. I needed a windshield washer fluid sensor replaced too, thank god they were out of that part might have been $3000 for that . After calling Alfredo multiple times and him hanging up on my face since he knew I was upset I knew I needed to go in and talk to a manager. Luckily I was able to speak to the manager Sajad who was very kind and could tell something was wrong when I explained the situation to him. He spoke with the service department and he granted me price match of the other Mazda dealerships for the labor. On top of this after a talk from the manager greedy Alfredo changed his tone to be much more polite to me. At the end of the day this is an employee based problem that sadly this dealership is allowing. Alfredo Flores is your stereotypical dirty mechanic that wants to take advantage of unknowing customers. By chance, when I left to go to the dealership, I thought it looked like there was a nail or something under my tire. But I wasn't sure. So when I got there I asked for a tune up, and for them to check the driver side tire for a nail. They did their inspection, suggested service. And they said they didn't find a nail. I agreed to some of the service, but double checked about the nail. They responded "No nail found." Picked up the vehicle, went home, just checked. Flat front driver side tire with a big silver nail in it. The only way you'd miss if is if you didn't even check. If this app let me id post pictures of the text exchange where I asked for the second time "no nail in the front driver side tire?" and another picture of the nail. Hilarious how obvious it is. Service so bad it's embarrassing. TLDR: I asked twice for them to check if there was a nail in my driver side front tire. They said no nail. Got home, guess which tire was flat and had a huge nail in it. Don't ever spend money here. read more

Came in for a oil change and tire rotation and was helped by Sam. He was a professional and very friendly. I had some white spots on my odometer lens that were not coming off. When I asked Sam what he suggested I do, he let me know that it was replaceable under my basic warranty. Part was on order and I came back the following week. Sam really worked with my schedule and offered to drive me to work while my car was in for service. There's currently construction so no complimentary car wash. The first few times I brought in my CX5 for routine maintenance, Star Mazda was always behind schedule. I always made appointments ahead of time, but I always had to wait 20-30 minutes to be checked in. The staff wasn't all that pleasant either. Maybe it's the pandemic, but my most recent visits have gone a lot quicker, and I find the current staff much more welcoming. In terms of maintenance, everything has gone pretty smoothly. No major problems after taking my car in. No surprise charges, though I did have a pre-paid maintenance plan, so my routine stuff was already sorted ahead of time. Occasionally I don't get the free car wash at the end because their machine is down, but no big deal. I like that you get texts when you get checked in and when your car is ready. They now give you text rundowns on what was done, and printouts are available too. The one thing that can be improved is having an associate go over what was done and anything that needs to be done coming up. If I ask, they always go over the details, I guess I assume it should be done automatically. There is a nice waiting area with leather chairs and a TV. Everyone wears masks inside and out. There used to be a coffee and water station but it appears closed for pandemic safety. If you need to take your Mazda in for service, just make an appointment online or over the phone, and you won't have a miserable experience - they've got a strong, friendly service staff here. read more

Nick and alex sold me my car. The guys selling the car seem very nice and solid but they will lie to you to make a sale. The car I bought should have never have been put up for sale in the condition it was in. Anyways ok I take it to their service department. At first I was told I would be getting new head gaskets which can take a while. When I came to pick up my car A MONTH LATER they had told me all they did was replace the thermostat, which doesn't take a month to do. Okay I get the car back 3 days later I'm having the same issues with the coolant (and I told them this the first time) and also now it's having an issue starting. I take it back within 72 hours of having it. Now it has been another month and I still haven't driven my car more than a week. The service department DOESNT COMMUNICATE. THE SALES DO NOT COMMUNICATE. I have been trying to get in touch with lalo or John the general manager and they keep saying they will call me but never do. Don't waste your time. Save your money and energy. Don't buy a car here. I am very happy with the service department of this dealership. They were able to make a valve stem seal repair that was complicated, took a week, and involved a known defect whereby Mazda was obliged to make this repair if your low engine oil light came on. . I had been struggling with my local nearby dealership who declined to do the repair, and didn't seem to understand the terms of the settlement. Called Star Mazda, and they made the appointment right away without any of the hassle. I was provided a loaner car, which was the same type of car I owned, so I would be familiar with it. Very thoughtful. My car is fixed and Star Mazda will get my business going forward. It's worth the drive. read more
