Walked in for pedicures for 2. The gentleman that helped us was going to make it work until a person that I can only assume was the manager very quickly and loudly said "No we can't. We have a group of 4 coming." So instead of looking at the people that were finishing up to truly judge the situation she said it would be a thirty minute wait. Star Nails has now lost my business. The finished product looked really nice, but the finish he put on top got all scratched & two of my nails already broke where i've only had them for two days & i haven't done anything to make them break. Star Nails was clean, efficient and all staff were very friendly. I was amazed by the 8 different pedicure options and the pedicure of the month special. I paid $55 for my first powder gel manicure three days ago. It has already started chipping.

I went here for a mani pedi, and while my toes look good, I'm very disappointed with my gel nails. To start off, the women never soaked my nails before painting them. I thought this was a little odd but it then became painful when she was cutting my cuticles and buffing near my skin. Now, three days later the polish is completely lifting off on one of my nails, and for the price it cost the fact that this only lasted three days is more than disappointing. I am not sure what has happened here over the course of the last 2 years, but I am super disappointed in everything about it. Star used to be great...quick, friendly, decently priced. Each time I have been in the past couple of years, every time I am more and more discouraged by them. After my last visit on Friday, I know I will never come back and give them my business. For starters, I made an apt Thursday morning for Thursday night for a mani pedi at 545. I got there 10 minutes early, they sat me right at 5:45 for my pedi. My girl was very sweet, but her manager pulled her away mid me getting my pedi to do a waxing on a walk in client. She was gone for 20 minutes. Me just sitting there, t.w.e.n.t.y.m.i.n.u.t.e.s She came back, appoligized...she did give me a nice pedicure, but when we finish she goes to ring me out. I tell her I had a manicure apt too and I was then told that they were out of time because they were closing - so, my time for my basic mani was taken because I waited around for the girl doing my pedicure to finish with a walk in client for 20 minutes (also mind you, at 615 they all start to clean to place to shut down for 7, so its very uncomfortable as youre sitting there having your seat moved around so they can clean around you and make you feel rushed to be out of their hair, but whatever). So, irritated, I say whatever I will make an apt for the morning for my mani - I was getting my engagement pictures done, so I really didnt have a choice. I come back Friday morning for my apt and I am seated with this guy for my 10am spot. Again, getting a basic mani. Shouldnt take longer than 20-25 min right? By 11am he was taking off the third coat of nail polish because he didnt know how to paint nails. He cut my finger in the process of buffing my nails, I bled and have a decent sized gash in my nail bed. I had to leave to get ready for my pictures that day, so someone else had to come over to finish me. I didnt get a pay reduction, an appoligy...nothing. The customer service is absolute awful, half of their staff is sitting around not doing anything, they make you feel like youre intruding on them being there. I will not be returning here ever again after my last experience, and would never reccomend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing manicure. read more

I have been going to Star Nails occasionally for years. I am sorry to say that the services and customer service have gone downhill. I went there for a manicure and pedicure. Both were over in less than a hour. The technician rushed the pedicure. She did not scrape my heals nor do an adequate job in trimming cuticles. She also painted the finger nails too thickly. There were extra costs for services that used to be included in the prices. Also, to use a long-lasting polish was an extra $5.00 for each service. Think of how much they are making on one bottle! When I questioned the services, the receptionist ways rude. The owners used to be more visible in the place and it was much better. They were never rude. 2 days after my gel manicure at the Middletown location - I have a giant chip in my thumb nail. There is still polish all over my fingers as the manicurist kept getting it all over. This was by far the worst manicure I've ever received. I told myself I wouldn't go back again because of the last experience, but I guess because it's the only place you can get into on short notice I went back. Every time I go I get the guy who couldn't care less about doing my nails. I have to remind them to do things like file ALL of my calluses and clean under the nails. 90% of the time he's looking around, paying no attention to his work. He doesn't have to talk to me, he barely speaks English, but at least pay attention to your job. I've ended up for the third time in a row with a really crappy mani- pedi. read more

When I got a gift certificate to this place, at first I was scared because I had heard bad rumors of fungus, etc. But when I pulled up for my pedicure, the place was packed. I enjoyed a really great pedicure by Joanna. She was kind and spent a long time on the massages, unlike some of the people next to me who were getting the minimum treatment. Some of the men working there would try to push women into getting upgrades, but I think Joanna knew how to ask the right way and they should learn from her. I had a very poor experience here. I was directed to sit at a manicure station that hadn't been cleaned yet. There was finger nail clippings and polish on a paper towel. When the guy started my manicure he did not clean his station first. Normally there is a soap/ water dish to place one hand in while the other is being worked on. I dunno if he skipped this or doesn't use this technique. He acted like I was an inconvience and continued to sigh, huff and puff while working on my nails. It was very rushed and I felt uncomfortable. He made me feel so uncomfortable that I didn't let him finish his massage. My nails turned out fine. But when I am going to pay 35 dollars to get my nails done I expect to be treated a little better. Don't plan on ever going back. read more

PROS: clean, quality products + services, ample parking, 10 pedicure chairs = short/non existent wait, reasonable prices, 3 min neck massage included with mani or pedi. CONS: only accept tips in cash, loyalty card fee = $5 As someone who does not carry cash, I find this cash-only tip policy annoying. I get it that you need to pay taxes on credit card tips. Raise your prices to cover the taxes. I would rather pay $1 more for a pedicure than to go through the hassle of charging the service and digging out cash for a tip. I was there today and the most profane rap music loaded with crude sexual/violent lyrics,F-bombs and racial slurs was playing throughout the salon. When I brought it to the attention of the woman manicurist, she replied "It's Pandora". I told her they really needed to change it, as it was terribly profane and offensive. I am so glad my young children were not with me. There was an African-American woman having a pedicure as the rapping about n-ggas was playing throughout the salon. Absolutely appalling! The manicurist mentioned it to her male co-worker who thankfully changed it immediately. There was a time when this salon allowed for purchase of a personal set of manicure implements. It was a one time fee and they were numerically numbered and stored. Suddenly a couple years ago they disappeared. This was one of the reasons I really liked this salon. Additionally, after 10 visits they once offered a free service (I can't recall if it was a pedicure or 5 min chair massage?). Now they charge $5 for a "loyalty" card ($2 replacement fee). After spending $100, they give you $5 back. Meh. This is another annoying practice - a loyalty card with a fee. All in all it used to be a lot better salon. I see it slipping. I find myself frequenting this establishment less and less. read more

Usually don't write reviews but this was the worst pedicure I've ever had. The entire thing was done in less than 20 minutes and the foot massage was terrible and he didn't use the timer. Then insisted I pay as soon as it was done even when I asked to wait until my nails are dry so I didn't chip them. This place was clean and got the job done. But for a classic pedicure it certainly was not worth the price. They used the liners which was good and the utensils were sterilized. However the towel was luke warm, they went threw the motions, no scrub of any kind, no foot rub only leg rub. My two friends had only one coat of polish and then a top coat. It hasn't chipped or peeled at all in 2 weeks and she painted closer to my cuticles than some other salons so it grows out much better. The shoulder massage is a huge plus as well! At first I was afraid. Whenever I think "chain beauty services" I automatically assume unclean and half-assed. But my mom and younger sister were going for mani's & pedi's and I didn't want my digits and tootsies to feel inferior, so I tagged along. Okay, it wasn't a GREAT pedicure, but I did like the way she filed and painted, especially with a VERY dark color. Almost four weeks later I still have the polish on without a chip in sight. My manicure was just as pleasant. I asked the woman not to cut my cuticles and she was good about it. I LOVED my polish job on my nails too. Pedi and Mani were $40...not bad at all. However I wish I would have upgraded to a gel mani because I chopped off some of my nail polish that night cutting up veggies :( My sister for a gel mani and it looked amazing for almost 3 weeks. Star Nails is my go-to nail salon when I'm on Aquidneck Island. Very clean, very quick, and mostly nice. I always get the shellac manicure, which lasts 2+ weeks on my hands. That's unheard of for me, especially because I work with my hands all day. Recently they have been encouraging people to pay cash, and even offer a discount based on the price of your services if you pay cash. I definitely recommend making an appointment though, because the line can go out the door sometimes, especially in the summer months. read more

I got my nails done here for my wedding and it was a horrible experience. The woman doing my nails did not understand a word I was saying and basically painted my nails and nothing else. She did not cut my cuticles, ask what length or shape I wanted my nails. My gel manicure chipped after 5 days and looked like absolute crap when I walked out. If I had written this review last week, I would have given 5 stars. I have a regular nail place I go to but my coworker recommended this place and it was right near my store so I decided to try it. I paid about $10 more for my full set with gel polish than I do at my regular place, but I LOVED the way my nails looked PLUS they threw in the free hot towel massage (I had had a terrible knot in my shoulder for days and they got rid of it in 10 minutes!) and paraffin wax so I could see why it was extra. I also threw in a very generous tip. However, the reason I am taking away stars is because one of my nails chipped and almost the whole tip of it fell off after one week. I was shocked since I always pay extra for the gel since it is supposed to be stronger and last longer. This has never happened to me before. I went back to get them to fix it and the girl told me that since my nails are weak, the gel polish won't stay on. I find that hard to believe, since for many months I've had full set w/ gel and like I said, they've NEVER fallen off, not even after more than a month, never mind one week. So the girl proceeds to remove the whole acrylic nail, paint gel polish over my real nail, and tell me I'm all set. UMMM. NO. I didn't pay $50 plus pay them to fix it so that I could have 9 beautiful acrylic nails and one stubby nail that is the same color. If I wanted that I would have splashed some paint on it myself. So the guy that did my original manicure fixed it the way I wanted it and it looks great now. I paid the $5 they wanted to fix it plus left the guy a tip again for his time. If they had just fixed it the way they were supposed to and charged me the $5 I would have been fine with it, but I was pissed at the way they handled it initially, it was very unprofessional and not the kind of service I expect for the money I am paying. The manager/owner did apologize and my nails look great now, but I am still turned off by that experience and because of that unprofessionalism, I will NOT be a repeat customer. They got $55 out of me (plus $14 tip) but they won't be getting any more of my money. I'll be going back to my regular place, where I spend less money and get more for my money. read more

I went to Star Nails when it first opened several years ago and had a fine experience. However, now that the salons are lucrative for the owners, the service is truly appalling. I last went there recently, with a 9:30 appointment, as the doors open. Those of us waiting were greeted with a group of unsmiling, rude technicians, demanding, "Pick a color".....they all appeared to hate their jobs. Even as a return client with an appointment, they rushed through the service and my nail and toe polish had chipped in two days. When they are really busy, clients are placed in a pedicure chair 'to soak', as if to signify that a technician will begin shortly. However, in fact, I have walked out after 15 minutes of 'soaking' when it began apparent that no one would be available. Appointments are a joke....these clients simply get into the cheque with walk-ins. Training for technicians seems to be non-existent, since there is no service uniformity from one to the next....some are good, others hideous. Star is really the only game in town and they know it. The management doesn't have a clue about greeting the public graciously or about punctual appointments....but they don't have to, since clients keep coming back.... read more

Probably the worst gel manicure and pedicure I've ever had. And in total cost me $60! Complete and total rip off! I had a guy named Andy. He didn't even trim my cuticles! I asked him why and he said I didn't have any. Well I hadn't gotten my nails done in over a month, so I doubt that as the case. The gel polish was all over my cuticles. Worst manicure ever! Three stars for mani and pedi. Zero for costumer service. Common people it's 2016! Warm welcome or at least "hello how are you" is a must when running beauty service business. Lady at the front desk was very rood and unpleasant. When I asked how long would be a wait she replied with "maybe you should make an appointment next time". A young man that did my nails did not say a word and was clearly annoyed that he has to work on Saturday or something. He did a great job but costumer service was unacceptable. Won't be coming back.
