While I have had some great experiences at Star Nails there is an inconsistency with employees. The spa pedicures are expensive and unless you have a go to person I find that often the massages are weak, or there is no variation -they just rub your leg up and down. I am not spending 80 dollars to have someone rub cream on my leg. I can do that myself. It is very frustrating. I just went to get a pedicure with a friend and watched her person give a much better massage than mine. My person didn't even rub my feet. This has happened on numerous occasions and I might start looking for somewhere else to go. read more

Horrible Customer service! The girl at the front desk (Katie) doesn't have a clue how to treat customers let alone "manage" the staff. I was left in a chair soaking my feet for over 15 minutes...and when I tried to call out to her she completely ignored me...when I finally got her attention (by calling the front desk from my cell phone) to inquire where the technician was, she rolled her eyes with attitude! Maybe my expectations are higher than the standards at this place but to hire staff who doesn't smile and happily greet clients at the door is not something I am used to. What a rude and miserable person to have staffed in the the front at a place of business! I am an event planner in the hospitality industry so I have experience to make this analysis. I just don't understand why an owner would hire her and allow her to represent the front of the house unless this is the only job she can get bc her parents own the place and she is unappreciative? I will never be back...too many other great places to give my hard earned $$ to--that will actually like me being there! **AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Wow, been going to Star (Bristol, Newport mostly) for 6 years or so. Stopped in to the Middletown shop, received the fastest, worst pedicure I have ever received. I will give them one more chance, but I am hearing this from other friends that they are getting faster and doing a poor job. The kid that did my pedi didn't pay attention, kept talking to everyone else, was rough pulling my feet to the position, didn't do anything for cuticles, forget about massage....it was a joke, didn't buff the nail at all before polishing. Just the worst pedi I have ever received. And just an FYI, I make a point to speak to them...I wasn't being rude and ignoring them. Wow...Just so disappointed. read more

I have been going to Star Nails on and off for several years and typically find them unfriendly and that they rush through the service. I have only gone out of convenience. Today topped it all. I had a pedicure by a man that, when doing the foot massage, only touched my calves, never my feet. It was not really a massage but something else entirely. One of the best gel mani/pedis I've had. Super clean. Much more than I had expected including hot towel shoulder rub and paraffin hand treatment. I kept thinking I was going to have to pay more, but it was all part of the manicure. I will definitely return when I am in the area. Thanks! read more

Prices have gone up and service has definitely gone down. The last few times they rushed through it. I went for a mani/pedi, usually don't have to wait too long (which is great), however they totally did not do a good job. The first couple of times I didn't think too much about it, but just again last week, my mani pedi was only 40 mins.long. Paying $40 I would expect a better job and not be rushed. Will look for a new salon to spend my money. read more

I had originally decided to give them two stars because I had received good pedicures in the past but after typing out what happened and how they treated me when trying to get their bad job fixed I had to change it to one star. As someone that doesn't complain I could not have been nicer when bringing the issues to their attention. I paid $65 plus tip for a pedicure that looked like I did it myself, in a hurry. They didn't remove my cuticles, they didn't buff my nails, and they didn't even do a second coat of polish but they did leave two huge bubbles on one of my big toes. Like I said previously, I'm not the kind of person to complain or say anything unless something is REALLY bad but I was encouraged by another one of their customers to say something before I left. After saying something their solution was to paint over the bubbles and clear coat and be done. Being completely discouraged I left. The next day I asked my friends for their opinion and the unanimous vote was that I needed to go back. I was relieved when they said they would fix it but immediately let down when they assigned the same person who screwed them up to "fix them". Long story short he didn't fix them. There is a spot with no polish on a few nails, rough skin on my toes. I tried to show them before I left but the man in charge put his hand up and said what I was asking for wasn't included in the pedicure. Getting polish on the entire nail isn't included? Maybe I should find a place where it is. I will never go back and neither will any of my friends that saw the half assed job. read more

So I went to this place based on other people's reviews, and let me just say, after having received a LOT of pedicures all over the country, this was one of the best pedi's I've ever received! I went in for a basic pedi ($30) and ended up deciding to get a hot stone pedi ($40), where for an extra ten bucks, they add callus remover, massage for 10 minutes with lavender oil, and use these warm stones to massage.....and it was amazing! They set timers so that you know you get your time's worth, and I was so bummed when the buzzer dinged and my massage was over. As I'm sitting there letting my nails dry, imagine my shock when the gal that did my toes came over and started rubbing my shoulders! What a bonus! Definitely recommend this place, but it gets busy fast, so either go early or make an appointment. read more

I love Star Nails. They are a little pricey, hence the 4 vice 5 stars. I love the services, especially the gel manicures-the best. I'll be a loyal customer and I highly recommend them due to nice facility, friendly people, good selection of services, and very clean (the most important quality to me). read more

The Gel manicure is AMAZING. I had never gotten a gel manicure before but went when a friend recommended it. It was more expensive than a regular manicure, but it lasted with zero chips or wear whatsoever for a solid TWO WEEKS. Even after two weeks (it has now been like 17 days), the only reason I have a couple of the chips is that I was chopping veggies in the kitchen and getting too close to my nails. Basically it will last until your nails are visibly growing out at the base. The only problem is I think I have to go back to the salon to get it taken off. I don't think regular nail polish remover will take this stuff off. read more

Looked around for a while for a new local place to get my nails done every few weeks. LOVE Star! I was definitely nervous about it being a chain place, but they have a great boutique feel! I get gel French manis and they do a great job including the paraffin with every mani! Also do great eyebrow waxing! ONLY negative I have is the gel manis are a little more expensive than other places around. That is the only reason for my one less star.. Highly reccomend! read more

I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with the results. My nails needed a real manicure and someone suggested I try Star Nails. Well, it was the biggest waist of $15.00. I could have done it myself. The tech just kept complaining about my nails because she actually had to work, I had to asked her (thru an interpreter) to use a cream to soften my cuticles otherwise it was very painful. When she was done my cuticles were still there! I should have just walked out it was just so bad. My suggestion: if your nails just need mild cleaning maybe but if you want a real manicure I suggest a real nail salon and not want of these fly by nights claiming to be a spa. read more

She literally did my lousy manicure in 12 minutes! Spent about 30 seconds filing my nails and it went downhill from there. Not to mention how unfriendly most of them are. I'm done. Very decent prices but I was pretty uncomfortable during my manicure. I walked in and they got me to a station immediately (yay!) but the tech, beyond a couple of words, was focused in on the big screen TV to my right (Hey, I love Food Wars too but a little attention to the person the hands are attached to is nice). We got through the prep without a problem but then, prior to getting to the polish, the tech abruptly told me to pay for the manicure. While I admit to only having had a few manicures in the past in various places outside RI, I have never had a tech stop dead and demand payment before the manicure is completed- is this usual for this place? Did I look scuzzier than I thought? Should I have worn a sweater set? I admit to not being a fashion plate but, honestly, this killed it for me. I wanted to have pretty hands for my graduation and rarely pamper myself so this was supposed to be a treat. Instead, I spent the rest of the time after coughing up payment just wanting the polish to dry so I could leave. The polish was ok- went with an OPI color that was fun but I could have used another coat on a couple of fingers to even out coverage and the tech wasn't super careful to not get it on the undersides of a few of my fingers so I needed to deal with that when I got home. After the polish, the tech smooshed me around with a plastic-wrapped hot towel for a few minutes at the drying station (there was a timer set for maximum massage efficiency I guess) and I tried to not make eye contact with the women less than a foot from me also being smooshed around (it felt awkward). Then I counted to twenty and got up to leave. As I usually do, I went to give a tip to the person who worked on my nails but found he had peaced out! I stood there awkwardly as two or three other technicians tried to find him and ended up shoving the tip at one who promised to deliver it to the appropriate person. I admit to being neurotic ( I just finished up a pretty hellacious degree so I need a little time to come down from the stress) but I think I'll try somewhere else the next time I want to pamper myself. read more
