I have been going to star nails for a few at least 4 years but I go as needed. The last time I went I waited 35 mins and was the last appointment my nails were done thick and they were coming apart. The tech was saying the nail polish was not going on good and she kept putting layers. I called back and let them know that they are coming apart and too Thick the Same person fixed them and was blaming me. She said it had to be something I was doing. I felt really bad I don't ever complain about the nails I know how hard they work but the nails were terrible uneven. I wanted to try the dip. The process seemed like slot of steps, my nails felt tight & looked thick! I was not a fan but I figured I'll just not do this again & deal with it for a few weeks, a few hours later the gloss top coat is literally peeling off, every time I got my hands wet it became rubbery & would peel. I went in for a gel manicure. I was sat with an older gentleman who's station was filthy. When removing my old gel polish, he didn't let the remove soak into the polish long enough and just resorted to painfully scraping the polish off with a metal tool that definitely wasn't designed for nail use. I could have done that at home but it's so bad for the natural nail. I was very unhappy with my finished manicure. The polish is uneven, thicker at the tips, and full of dents and rough spots. The worst part was he tried to make it appear as if he was opening a fresh bag of tools but it was clearly already opened and used. Just all around disappointing and very unhygienic. The young lady doing the nails next to him was doing a very impressive job though and had a clean station. I guess it just depends on who you get. If they seat you with an old man with a filthy work station, RUN! read more

Worst dip manicure ever!! Everything is bumpy and uneven. My nail tech filed through the color and some pink in coming through. My hands are raw because she scraped me twice. Been here a few times but haven't left a review. I know I know... For shame. Any Who. This salon is simply fantabulous. I got a no chip French manicure, a regular spa pedicure ( which is extraordinary :p), and eyebrow wax. All of which was done in an hour maybe 1 hour and 20 minutes while they were already busy. They make sure to take the time to get everything done to your satisfaction but not drag on like some places do. And while there is some chit chattering going on and a TV its at a tolerable level and the stylists are so polite and considerate. They will engage in conversation if you want, or let you relax in silence. I always bring my friends here and tell them how good it is. Man who did my pedicure was very nice, and did a nice job trimming my nails and cuticles, and applying polish. However, I had calluses and he just gave them a light once over. In the past I'd have a lot of skin on the towel but there was literally none this time. I've gone several times before and been very pleased, my feet looked great! But this time I'm going to have to keep working on my calluses myself. Also I had a appointment and had for wait 35 minutes, and the whole pedicure was shorter than that. read more

I just had an amazing experience at Star Nails of Elgin! My nails (no-chip mani/pedi) look amazing & the eyebrow wax was fast and painless. Lin & Tony were so kind & gentle & they do such a great job at a very fast pace. The chairs are sooo comfortable & I got a much needed massage, so relaxing! Well placed flat screen TVs for entertainment and such a peaceful environment. This will be my new place, as I just moved to the area. I'll see you guys every 2 weeks for up keep! If I could give zero stars, I would. The service that I went in for was a manicure, no polish. I explained that I am very tired and just didn't want to clean up my nails before I polish them myself (I do my own gel). I had a girl in the second chair. She hardly spoke to me and did a terrible job. My nails are not filed evenly, smooth, or all the same shape. My cuticles are still a hot mess. And to top it off, she rushed through the hand massage. I wish I didn't pay. After getting home, I felt more and more ripped off, so I called to ask for a refund and they refused. They said to come back. If they did a bad job the first time, I'm not wasting my time to go back. I hardly ever write reviews, but this deserved one. Ah! The girl who did my nails sent a message on here to me. Looked online and saw they open at 11 on Sunday. I got there at 10:50 in hopes of being one of the first ones to get an appointment. Two women walked in the doors so I figured, oh they opened early, and followed them in. There were already 3 people inside getting manicures. One of the women in front of me was taken back right away. Myself and the other were told to come back in 30 minutes because there were not enough people. I signed my name to the list. I returned at 11:30 as asked. When I walked in someone was paying at the counter so I waited behind her. When she was done paying the guy helping her walked away and did no acknowledge that I was standing there. I should've been coming here for my nails! I thought it'd be a regular looking nail salon BUT when I walked in I was blown away by the decor and cleanliness. I love their choice in furniture and the color of the whole salon! There's a huge variety of nail colors to choose from. Kay fixed my nails up so well cause my pointer finger acrylic fell off lol. This place was okay. My mom and I came here together. There was a bit of a wait though we had made a reservation. The equipment and space wasn't kept up as well as the place I usually go. The tools looked semi clean, but some things had clearly been used for other people and not cleaned. The chairs and desks were worn. Pricing was average. My technician talked a lot and was a little obnoxious, but did a fine job. I gave it 3 stars because it lasted for 3 weeks, which I'm happy with. read more

Best nail salon around! I've been going here since i was 15. I'm now 21 and its still my all time favorite. All workers here care deeply about their customers. They're super friendly and inviting. They make you feel like you're with friends! I will never go another place for my nails. I've tried other places where they're disrespectful or get mean if you don't like something.
