Yes, 40 minutes after my appointment was supposed to begin. No updates, no options to choose my colors, just stuck in the corner. I have quite a bit of patience because I'd like to think I set realistic expectations for the environment I'm in. I expect to wait maybe 10 minutes after an appointment has been made, especially at a nail salon but this was egregious. If you're understaffed, please just say that. Or tell me it's going to be a little longer, I promise it won't bother me. What does bother me is my time being wasted and there being no communication. I could have ran other errands or made a different decision on what I wanted to do with my time. I understand we're all doing our best and I respect all of those in the service industry, I suppose I wish the same respect was returned. Either way, I won't be returning. Back to the search for my nail salon home.

About a month ago I came in for an appointment and showed a picture from the yelp reviews. 1/4 of the way in (base done, working on design), I told him I don't love it, in what I thought was a very polite manner (again, friend referred me, I'm not a dick). I absolutely hate doing this, but I was unhappy with the design and asked he just do a solid color. He was clearly frustrated, but again don't think I was rude about it. We finished and I insisted on paying for his time, multiple times tried, and he wouldn't let me, therefore I couldn't tip (only had my card). The twist- turns out not liking the design got me fired as a client. So here's my honest review- Jayden is great at painting but he does not do actual manicures, even when you book one. He will tell you if he doesn't like a design (I loved my nails the first time he did them and he flat out told me he didn't like the colors) but apparently cannot take someone not liking his work. So, mixed bag. Just an honest review since apparently I've already been blackballed. He also cannot do airbrush so his skill set is limited to brush paint and only certain things and will not tell you if a design is not suitable for your nail shape, which was the case with the design I picked. It wasn't until I said I didn't like them that he blamed me for picking that and that it was a different shape nail in the pictures. (Which I knew but assumed he would adapt the design for my actual shape ‍). Also they didn't tell me the fired me, they blocked my number. I thought it was an issue with their phone service so called on a different phone and got through. So overall insanely unprofessional in that regard. But roll the dice because his work and the price are great.

Well, I went down a rabbit hole and found Poppy and Monroe! A head spa is more than just a massage. At Poppy and Monroe, they give you a scalp analysis, massage, and essential oil treatments, with plenty of warm, rushing water to rinse and finesse. My treatment, which was pretty pricey at around 300 bucks, also included a facial (the esthetician rubbing my face was divine), foot massage, and hand/arm massage. At the beginning of the head treatment, Anna (who was AMAZING, by the way) showed me what was good and bad about my hair and scalp--my scalp was some of the best she'd seen, but was a little pale and needed more blood flow. She then showed me what my scalp looked like after that treatment, and there was indeed more blood flow, and looked more vibrant and less anemic. Anna was professional and kind and told me what she was doing every step of the way. She made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Everything felt wonderful. The vibe was calm. I felt relaxed. After the visit, Anna gave me pointers on how to care for my scalp and recommendations for returning for further treatments, but not in a gimmicky-trying-to-sell-me-stuff way. The space is warm and welcoming and also offers pedicures, manicures, and makeup sessions. The pedicure/manicure spaces are a little close together for my taste (I prefer private rooms), but they are stylish and clean. I plan to come back and see Anna again to work on my self care regimen. But, then I found that everything else is also really, really good. I have some favorite technicians, but I have never had a bad experience with anyone. I now take my husband with me as well, and he loves it! The atmosphere is super relaxing. Overall, just a really great experience, and I feel confident that my health/hygiene is taken seriously.
