We were so excited to come back to Star Noodle for their reopening at the new location. The ambiance is beautiful--ocean view, beautiful interior--and everything is better than ever. We had so many favorites, it's hard to choose. But I loved the chicken wing appetizer. The tempura shrimp were SO big--I've literally never seen them so big before. The wagyu was super yummy, the kids enjoyed the garlic noodles and we loved the pad Thai. We ordered a bunch of mocktails and everyone at the table agreed that the Shiso Peachy was the best one. Also, definitely get the Star Coffee to pair with your dessert--it's a Vietnamese egg coffee that is so creamy and delicious. The service was excellent. My daughter recommended this place after eating lunch with her friend. It's hard to get reservations here but we managed to get a 2:45 lunch reservation. When we arrived, I immediately recognized the place, it used to be Aloha Mixed Plate 15 years ago. Star Noodle is a fusion of Asian food and WOW! What a meal! The Steamed Pork Buns were heavenly at first bite. Full of flavor! The Hot and Sour Soup was tasty, with chili, lime, prosciutto, shrimp, cilantro, etc. Vietnamese Crepe came with something similar to a fried tostada with shrimp, mushrooms, bean sprouts, nuoc cham. You eat it wrapped in a butter lettuce and sauce. What an invention. Finally the Lahaina Fried Soup. I don't know who gave it this name because it's not a soup at all but I.Loved.It! My fave! I would love to come back and try everything on their menu but it was our last day on the island and I'd have to fly back for 5 hours. Maybe next time. Excellent food and great service. This is our #1 spot to eat on Maui. It has it all - great view, good service, solid cocktails and wonderful food. We come to Maui every year and make it a point to eat here twice on every trip. Picture is of a new (for us) dish Look Moore Fun - which is just that - a lot of fun to eat. I always get some variation of Ramen with my favorites being the Hapa Ramen and then the Miso Ramen when they run it as a special. The latter includes their home made chili sauce, though I usually bolster it with several more tablespoons. The wife is much more creative and has gone through pretty much the entire menu. she tried the Funn dish and loved it, though the process of having to unroll the noodles meant she had to work for her supper. We almost always get a starter and I highly recommend the Green Papaya and Shrimp salad, their spinoff on the classic Thai dish. But our go-to starter are the steamed pork buns. Roasted Kurobata pork, with a homemade hoisin sauce, pickled onions and scallions all served up on bao buns which are nothing more than pillowy goodness. You can't go wrong with Star. Reservations can be hard to come by but Friday lunch is all drop-in only no reservations allowed. Get there at 10:30 and make a brunch out of it starting off with one of their delicious cocktails, or keep it straight and try the Ginzu (ginger juice, yuzu juice and soda) for a refreshing, out of the ordinary drink. We have been eating here since they first opened in the Lahaina Industrial Park well over 10 years ago. I called to order take out and was put on hold for 20 minutes. I told my daughter to call since I was on hold for so long and she was put on hold for 5 minutes. They don't take calls in order. We ordered miso butterfish and were surprised when we opened the box--for $18 it was a small mouthful of fish--so small it was hilarious. We're like --really Vietnamese crepe--the crepe was so greasy and the amount of greens were not the freshest. When I arrived to pick up I think the waiter forgot to put in my order and so I was waiting an additional 30 minutes. I had to ask them several times if my order was ready. Customer service is awful from trying to order and getting the food. I tell people this place is so good but now I'm not recommending this establishment anymore. I wish there was a spicy option; very heavy in sesame flavor. There was also the hot and sour noodles which is a bit more citrus flavor and it is more refreshing than savory. I would highly recommend this. For broth based noodle. Lahaina fried soup is the most unique and interesting dish on your menu in my opinion. The noodles remind me of Korean rice cakes but the taste is closer to a dry version of the hapa ramen. The pork on the dish was absolutely amazing; so much flavor. This food is on par with Panda Express. The food got to our table before the drinks. The food seems to be pre-made like buffet style and sent out to customers as soon as ordered. The noodles were dry and cold. The ribs tasted like they were cooked in an oven and covered with bbq sauce. The shrimp was crunchy on the outside and mushy on the inside like half cooked. We chose the latter because we're getting hangry. The garlic noodle doesn't taste too garlicky. It's more on the light side. So, if you love that overwhelming garlic flavor. Man, oh man! No wonder it took me 3 weeks to finally get a reservation here! It was definitely worth the patience. It's a small, outdoor dining restaurant but very big on flavor and aloha. Plus, the ocean view isn't bad either. My husband and I shared garlic noodles and the nuoc cham chicken. The garlic noodles weren't oily or greasy. And the nuoc cham chicken was crispy, just the way I like it. The garlic noodles is best when paired with a protein so the chicken and the noodles was a perfect combination. To wash it all down, we had Orion beers and a sunset margarita. Refreshing. Would we return? Heck yeah! And we would highly recommend Star Noodle to others as well. It's back! New location on Front Street next to Aloha Mixed Plate. The setting is beautiful. Interior wide open ocean front dining. The menu is packed with old favorites and some new dishes. We were given an amuse bouche of curried pickled cauliflower & cabbage. Crispy and delicious. We started with the tako (grilled octopus) with pickled onions and herb pesto. Beautifully presented, and it was cooked perfectly. It wasn't tough or rubbery. We then shared the miso butterfish. This dish is so simple, the fish clean, tender, and the miso sauce was delicious. We got a side of famed garlic noodles and adobo ribs. The noodles were perfectly cooked with that subtle sweet garlic taste. The ribs are tangy and salty with an addictive quality. We, of course, finished with the malasades with dipping sauces. I prefer the yeasty deep-fried treat with no sauce. It's so satisfying, and we are glad Star Noodle is back. Wished it had more sauce as it really lacked seasoning. Not much of an entree. - Hot N Sour: It's basically Tom Yum soup with noodles. Pretty meh for me. I consider this "Asian lite" fusion food. The last time we ate here it was at their former location in the industrial area back nine years ago. We said no big deal. But that was then and now is now. Fast forward to 2022. They're now at the former Aloha Mixed Plate location. I made a reservation on Resy. No easy task either. I booked it for a Sunday at 4:15pm. We checked in promptly. Still waited 15-20 minutes for a table. Menus are double sided on 8 1/2 x 11 piece on paper. You can preview the menu if you'd like while you're waiting for a table. We saw several walk ups for the bar. Otherwise the wait without a reservation was quoted as 1 1/2 hours. They offer To Go option. For dinner we shared: * steamed pork buns that came in a bamboo steamer. Three to an order. It's actually pork belly not your typical char siu. We enjoyed. * Vietnamese crepe - very different. We had this nine years ago. I'd forgotten how it was prepared. You take a knife to cut up the crepe. Then you attempt to wrap everything in a lettuce wrap. Very laborious but good. * green papaya & shrimp salad - refreshing. Then we each ordered our own noodles - Two orders of the Hapa ramen and one order of the local saimin. By this time we're very satisfied. We plowed ahead and slurped our noodles. Hubby said his Hapa ramen would have sufficed. Daughter too. I liked my saimin noodles. It was a meal in itself. As it is located along a nice stretch of beach, I would recommend sunset reservations, or even a lunchtime seating. Two of us ordered the following to share: Miso Butterfish Star Kim Chee Steamed Pork Buns Nuoc Cham Chicken Asian Shortrib Garlic Noodles The appetizers are rather small, so two of us were able to finish it all off. My friend wanted to take me here since I'm a foodie. She wanted to come because she remembered the food was really good and the cocktails were amazing. We were so dissatisfied with the garlic noodles, the Vietnamese Crepe, and the Adobo Ribs. The noodles were dry and had no garlic flavor despite the fried garlic in too. If anything we needed more of that and some olive oil or some of the noodle water. The crepe had no flavor whatsoever. It was very disappointing. The crepe itself was so hard and I'm surprised I didn't like it cuz I like crunch but it was too hard. Then the adobo ribs tasted like Costco ribs and they just poured the adobo sauce over. It default wasn't cooked in the adobo sauce or marinated in it. The only amazing dish we had was the Pork Belly Steamed Buns. That was the best dish from what we ordered. The pictures of the food look amazing but it's only in pictures. There was talk that Star Noodles quality isn't as good as it's previous location. My friend wanted a specific drink and they were out of it. She was bummed. The waiter suggested another drink which she didn't like at all. I had the Kamuela Fiz and it was delicious. The service was great. Everyone was friendly from the hostess, food server, and our waiter. The location is beautiful. This was my second time at star noodle, but the first at their new location! In my personal opinion, their original location had a better ambiance and view of the ocean, but that's not to say their newest location isn't nice as well! This was an amazing experience for me and my family! Initially it was about an hour wait just to sit at the bar, which is fairly closed off from the rest of the restaurant and a view of the ocean. They didn't have anything for 2 hours for the restaurant. Luckily, maybe 20 minutes after waiting, we were called up and given a table that was right by the waterside with an amazing view! The service was hands down the best I've had at a restaurant. Everyone was so nice and gave great recommendations! We ordered two the garlic noodles and the bacon and eggs for appetizers, and we were blown away from the start. The bacon and eggs came sizzling on a cast iron and the garlic noodles (handmade) were delicious, everything was super high quality. We ordered two hapa ramens, a plate of their wagyu steak, and the Look Moore Funn plate. This food was incredible and the best we've had in Maui for our week stay here. Nothing else had compared to it. Delicious food! I loved the pork belly baos. Ramen also did not disappoint although it's a little difficult to share. We also split the garlic noodles which were alright. I'm not a huge garlic noodle fan. Those three dishes were quite enough for two to split. They also have a full bar and the cocktails were tasty! Another of Maui's you need a reservation, a 99% on a 100 question multiple choice exam, and a note from your mom. We couldn't get in last year 2021. Heck, they wouldn't even allow take out. 2022 was a little better as we made reservations online pretty early. A lot of hype with this restaurant and being in touristy Lahaina it is very popular. MUST GET: Nuoc Cham Chicken- crisp, juicy, flavorful! Miso salmon-cooked perfectly though my wife felt the sauce was a little heavy handed. Eggplant-A must. My daughter's first eggplant dish she ever liked and had seconds of so hell yeah. Garlic Noodles-To put into perspective, we had a little leftover of this dish (it was a lot of food lol) but we STILL ordered another garlic noodle to go. Kakuni bao buns-you can order the tender Hoisin sauced pork belly either as a dish or in buns. TO SKIP (In my opinion) Hapa Ramen-I love a good ramen. I've had great ramen. This was neither good nor great to me. Didn't like the broth or the noodles. A big let down for to me for a restaurant named Star Noodles. Service was good but not stellar. But the food was nothing spectacular as we live in California so have many Asian fusion spots. The adobo ribs were flavorful but a bit dry. The steamed pork buns could use more flavor. The look more funn noodles were very different with yummy flavor but SUCH SMALL PORTIONS. They give you 2 shrimp and 2 scallops and noodles are rolled to make it look like there's a lot of scallops on your plate.
