This place does not look like much from the exterior however, the food is excellent, the eggplant tofu dish they make is one the best I've ever tasted, as well as the kung pao chicken and their variety of noodle dishes. I've been eating at Star Wok for about 8 years now. That being said, they were better back then. The items are pretty much the same items and they still have to best BBQ pork in town to me. But they have declined on the quality of certain items: the egg rolls. I used to loooooove eating their egg rolls. Crispy on the outside, soft stringy cabbage carrots on the inside. They truly were a treasure. I don't get the egg rolls anymore because they have gone from made on site to frozen! I was heart broken when I ordered my usual two egg rolls because when I bit into it, an unfamiliar almost gelanatous mush entered my mouth. Really disappointing. The portions are still large for cheap. Not stingy like panda express. The food taste great but lately I've not been able to eat their food without BBB feeling I'll afterwards...... read more

Been ordering here for awhile. Firstly as an Asian, it pretty good value and taste good too considering how little authentic Chinese food there is here in the area. BBQ pork is always a winner here and you can't go wrong with the Orange Chicken or Beef And Broccoli. The Party trays are also exceptional value. There is one dish we love more than anything else at Star Wok. We buy the family sized tray of thin rice noodles. For $16 you get about 10-12 meals. It has no meat, but some egg, and we easily add meat at home. It goes with everything, any kind of leftovers you have. With a little soy sauce, I can eat that wonderful stuff for days. This tray makes you very popular when sharing with friends and family at home. The BBQ pork is another big winner... sometimes. It's hit-and-miss with that one. Sometimes it's super lean, other times you get way too much fat. The marinated flavor is good, but you take your chances. I'm sad to say, a side order of golden fried shrimp was yucky. Practically inedible. The fried batter was quite hard. I never throw away food, much less a SHRIMP, but somehow I don't think those shrimp all made it into my belly. That order almost earned a 3-star, but I love the noodle too much, so they keep the 4 for now. Location is peaceful and safe. The cost is low, quantity is plenty big. 3.5 - I used to live off of the Walnut Shrimp here. It's literally the most affordable place for those who love walnut shrimp! (~$10 for a whole box/plate with rice). Who can say no to deep fried shrimp covered in mayo and honey with candied walnuts (this probably sounds gross to some--I don't even like mayo that much--but this dish is good!). It feels weird to give a more mom-and-pop version of Chinese Takeout/ Panda Express a rating above 2-stars, but this is really just on the basis on their Walnut Shrimp. It started off okay they gave me good portions and I was starving. I think anything would taste fine I stuck with the regular entrees orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. I took a few bites of my orange chicken and it was barely worm It was crunchy and hard in the center and disgusting. I was so disappointed. I took up my plate and nicely asked for them to fix it. Then she walked over and just stirred the orange chicken and said that it was fine. I said well mine is cols and hard is this normal? She had no interest in helping me. Simply put - Take out Chinese food I think a lot of people expect waaaaay too much out of places like these, expecting it to be "authentic", with extra fresh ingredients, so on so forth etc. But the main thing is keep in mind people this is FAST FOOD. You don't go to McDonalds expecting the best burger you've had in your life, nor should you go to place like this expecting the best Chinese food in your life. Simple as that. Go to Asian population saturated areas like Rowland Heights, San Gabriel or China town if you truly want "AUTHENTIC" Chinese food, even then taste is subjective to the person. With that said, I've lived on the Upland/Claremont city border for quite some time now, and this is by far the best quick take out Chinese place locally. It's less than a few miles from home, food has a cheap price, they give a lot of food, and the quality isn't too bad. Cant beat that. Especially considering I'm half Chinese my taste is a little more refined and picky with Chinese food, this is usually my go to place when I want a quick meal and don't feel like cooking at home. I generally order a 2 item combo, and eat half and save the other half for another meal when I get hungry again. Also, the Wonton soup is a good hangover cure when all you want is a nice hot bowl of good flavored soup broth with veggies and meats. 4 stars because I group this into a fast food style restaurant review. And as far as fast food goes, I'd much rather spend $7 here and get two meals of food that was actually prepared and cooked by humans rather than $7 at a chain and get all types of processed this' and thats' made by machines and simply slapped together by a person that could care less about their job to even fit the burger on the patty correctly. This is not a restaurant I expected to be in Claremont. The interior is horrible, the menu was confusing as a first timer. I asked for fried rice and the staff put a quart of rice in a disposable tray, I said "No no, as a side". So she emptied the rice and put the tray back with the other clean disposable trays and used the uses tray for someone else's order. The walnut shrimp was disgusting, they have the tails on it, it was gummy not chewy. There was no music, WALMART lights. For a Chinese fast food, to-go or mall style dining experience with food on a heater, I'd give this place an A. It's your typical Chinese fast food joint in the mall, only it's in a grocery store strip mall and the food is relatively fresh and good regularly. The only shame is that they take perfectly good food and fry everything. But that's Chinese food. What I do like about this place are the servers. The same servers are there all the time and I think the servers are the owners, so they take good care of their establishment. Also, I don't get the feeling that the food here are leftovers from the day before. I think sometimes the food may sit for 30 minutes before you get there. But they are constantly putting in fresh food. The portions are ginormous. I'll get the three plate deal and I'll have enough for 2 big meals or 3 regular sized ones. Surprisingly, the food here is fairly authentic. None of that orange chicken americanized chinese food crap you get at panda express. I may be a white-washed asian, but I know good asian food from a combination of different ingredients that make a dish sound and look asian. Though it is not my father's homemade food, it is still yummy. As well, they give you a hearty portion. I ordered the 2 order combination plate, and I had left overs for lunch the next day. I never really understood the hype that people have for Panda Express. Personally I believe that places like Star Wok tend to provide bigger and tastier portions with better service all at a cheaper price. While the place may not as be as clean and orderly as Panda, the amount they provide is literally overflowing. I usually order some Orange chicken and broccoli beef and I used to go half chow mein and half fried rice. Recently though I decided that there is too much rice and not enough chow mein and asked for a third rice and two thirds in chow mein, their response was to give the same amount of rice and chow mein and then add even more chow mein onto that. In result that one meal turned into two meals worth of food. Definitely a great place if you wish to eat in quantity in comparison to Panda. read more

We tried it because it is right by our house. The woman working was nice but super disappointing food. Noodles and rice were fine, nothing special. The pork was terrible, we couldn't eat it because there was so much fat. Another customer was complaining about the pork as we walked out. That should have been my tip off. If we had tried it in restaurant, I would have given it back. The orange chicken was fresh (I watched them bring it from the back steaming) but still just average due to quality of meat. I would have given 4 stars except for the almonds and walnuts. It was the BEST Almond Chicken we've ever had except the almonds were rancid! Eww. If they got fresh almonds I would try it again as the chicken was wonderful. The Mongolian Beef was mostly onions & not spicey as usual. The Fried Rice was good, the Rice Noodles were excellent and the Fried Shrimp with Walnuts were the bomb EXCEPT that the walnuts were also rancid! Too bad they don't freshen up their nuts or we would have gone back but will not. Good serving sizes for the $ but test the NUTS before eating.
