I would HIGHLY advise against anyone coming to this Starbucks, and I can guarantee that I will not be returning.
My Husband is allergic to melons and certain types of berries. He ordered a Matcha Green Tea Latte, with soy milk for flavor (it does not contain anything that he is allergic to, in fact he's bought one at other Starbucks in the local area without issue). Shortly after leaving (and after having drank a considerable amount of his beverage - about half) he noted that his bottom lip started to tingle and feel numb. Shortly after that he complained of his lungs feeling heavy - and finding it hard to breathe as his throat began to swell. I and my mother in law quickly made sure to get him some anti-histamines as he does not require an epi-pen but, an allergic reaction of any kind seemed strange for something he did not previously have an issue with.
When we arrived home we took a sip of his drink and noted that it had an usual fruity under-flavor that has NEVER been in any of the green-tea drinks he's gotten from other locations. This led me to believe that they cross-contaminated his drink with something else that he is allergic to.
Being the fairly understanding person that I am, I can understand that mistakes can be made and that sometimes things happen that are outside of our control. I get that, really, I do. However, what I find to be completely unacceptable is when I called the store, they hardly seemed to be bothered by the fact.
Originally I asked to talk to a manager and was told the manager wasn't there. Then I asked to talk to the supervisor and was told ( by the same employee ) that the supervisor wasn't there, and then that she was the supervisor. Upon explaining my reasoning for calling the employee proceeded to try and suggest to me that the drink contained "dairy products" and that was the reason he might not be feeling well. I explained to her AGAIN that it was an allergic reaction, and that there was something else in the drink and she continued to insist that perhaps it was something else.
By the end of the call she had offered to remake the drink, but by that point I was already home and tending to my husband. Why would I take him back somewhere to have them potentially make the same mistake? Saying that you'll clean your supplies after the event and remake the drink is a nice gesture, however, this isn't the first time I've had a problem with this particular store messing up our orders. Normally, as with any other small error, I would let it slide, because no harm no foul.
This incident, however, is the final nail in the coffin, and we will NOT be returning to this location. Between the evasive behavior exhibited by the employee on the phone, and the mistakes that just keep piling up, I simply CANNOT trust this store to get it right. I feel that it is also worth noting that I did not want a refund or anything like that. I simply wanted them to know about the problem and make sure that it doesn't happen again as a mistake like that could KILL someone in the future. read more
