I ordered for pick up during non peak hours and was told my order would be ready within 15 minutes. I got 3 rolls once of which I customized with brown rice for my mother. The rolls tasted fresh. Parking was a bit difficult as the lot houses various vendors. Upon arrival my order was ready as expected. The prices were fair. Food is good.... Typically they always have some sort of special which is great!!! Beer on tap pitchers are fairly priced. It was my first time here and I have to say it was disappointing. Once we were sat at our table it took 10 mins before someone took our order and we had to stop someone so that we could put our orders in. I've worked as a waitress before in restaurants bigger than this one so I understand how busy it can get. But I watched 3 people walk past us multiples times, make eye contact with us and didn't even acknowledge us. Also we asked for a condiment three times.. the second person we asked went to the back "to get it" then came out with a cleaning bottle and a rag... no one came back to check on the quality of our food, if we needed anything, but saw them attending to other tables that was there after us... I recently came here last week and I'm from San Diego and I heard this was a really good sushi place. I felt very welcomed and everything was brought out quickly. Then my sever Milton was very helpful when it came to what to order and explained the dishes to me. He was super polite and brought everything out quickly. There are little changes since the last time we were here. The food is amazing. I ordered two rolls and I am sad that I did not take a pic. I guess we will have to go back. The wait time was not to bad for the food, but it was worth it. We were worried when the Bento Lunch price went up, but the food was better quality then the pass and the new presentation, is so worth the price. I've been going to starfish sushi for years! They've definitely gotten better over the years! The fish quality is so nice and buttery. The renovations done to the establishment make it a much more enjoyable aesthetic place to go for a date night. The service is always nice. They've had bogo on the rolls for a bit. I do say since the renovations and the bogo deals it does get more packed so be patient. They are a small team and do the best they can. read more

I would say that my wife and I aren't that hard to please. If the place has friendly service, tasty food and a good vibe then we will come back again and again. The servers were all very friendly and attentive, the food was surprisingly good (whatever salmon they used in the Philly roll was top notch) and everything was quick. Chicken seemed not fully cooked, sushi was falling apart easily, gyoza seemed smaller than usual and it seems like they keep giving smaller and smaller portions as time passes even though their prices either stay the same or increase. Good local sushi joint. Not really traditional, but more of the fusion type of place. Really big selection, so you will spend a lot of time looking at the menu if you never have been there. They have plenty of non-sushi items so that will satisfy friends if they don't like raw fish. Personally, I stick with the classic sushi dishes, but I do like the jalapeno yellowtail. You can find that dish at many modern Japanese restaurants. A couple things they can improve is the spicy tuna and crispy rice dish. Even though I like spicy food, the spicy tuna is a bit too spicy where it covers up the taste of the fish. The crispy rice didn't have the right balance of crispy and chewy. Other than that, it's probably the best choice for sushi in Downey. The service was friendly too and they have call buttons at each table. Parking is free in the lot behind the plaza. read more

What we ate inside the restaurant was the spicy seafood ramen 5/5, spicy poke tuna with additional scallops and white rice base and the seafood Yakima soba . But before we had our meals, we started with the garlic butter edamame which is to die for and the hot tea. Service could be better if they had more staff. Wanting to get a quick bite I came with my girlfriend. First thing I noticed about the restaurant it's cold... like very cold. Next I was seated and had to wait 5 mins for someone to tell me I'll get a server for your table. When my server came made my order and asked for water. My water came with a cut lemons that was bruised. Water is H2O, I'm pretty sure there is no lemon and lemon taste. Waiting almost 20 mins for my rolls I realized the chefs do not have gloves. And that's beyond disgusting. I have been a chef at multiple restaurants and no matter what I never handled food with my bare hands. Quality was alright, but overall experience terrible.
