Overall, the service was good! I got a gel pedi and they've held up well so far. My lower rating is their color selection and how much they rushed me to pick out a color. They were not busy at all and i think they were just excited to get a customer but it was not as relaxing as i had hoped since i didn't get to take the time to pick out a color. I am happy with this color but it was just stressful. If you need a quick mani or pedi then I'd say go here!!

This is when I got them fixed to what I wanted.

I got acrylics done here. They were horrible they could not do the style I wanted. I repeatedly told them to re-due it. When they were cutting my cuticles they cut me multiple times to the point I bled on multiple fingers. They did good on my pedicure. But I was not happy with them. I had to go to another place to get them re-done. Just don't go here please!

Gel mani in perfect condition 8 days later

The technician matters. I regret not getting the name of the person who did my nails last time. A week later, my nails look good, but the gel is lifting at the base and I got hangnails from too much cutting at the cuticle. **Do not leave a tip through Venmo.** After paying posted prices and leaving a generous tip, I got a message from the technician on Venmo saying she "forgot to get the money" for something she made up and to send her another $10. I will not return to this shop.

This place is so highly rated I had to try it despite there being at least a three places closer. But still within walking distance for me. I made a 5:30pm appt on a Saturday. I arrived about 10min early and they set me right up. There were many colors to choose from. The water was a good temp. The massage chair was excellent. The place is pretty quiet. Very clean. My girl was gentle. Cute snacks. Highly recommend.

Went here for a manicure intending with nail polish (walk-in in the afternoon), and was given a quick cleanup and told "thanks for coming!". Maybe because I'm a guy they assumed that I didn't want polish, but I had hoped they wouldn't make that assumption. I then mentioned I was looking for a gel/SNS polish, and presented some color options, asking which they'd think would work best. The nail tech brought over a color ring and told me to find them, and got *very* impatient when I said I needed a moment to think. She brought a second ring over and immediately asked me "which one?" again, without giving me a chance to even pick up the ring! I then said I needed a second, and she insisted again which colors. I looked at the ring and said "oh, I want natural gel to be clear, not acrylic" and the owner had to come over and help translate, I believe she thought I wanted clear color. I picked two colors and she went to work. Finally, when I was checking out, my cuticle started bleeding, but I didn't want to make a fuss as I was happy to take care of it myself. The cleanup was okay, as was the polish. However the rushed service (when there was one other customer in the store), assumption I didn't want polish, and stress I felt when being pushed to pick a color faster led me to the two star rating. I would suggest asking at the start if it needed to be a quick job, and building awareness that rushing clients through color (it really wasn't longer than a few seconds) can lead to unhappiness with the result. I'll be trying a different place next time, but I hope Starlight is able to take these points into consideration.

Been here several times. Always a quick and thorough experience. A bit pricey, but overall a good experience. $45 for a regular gel manicure without extension. $50 with tip. A regular gel pedicure was $58.

I came here a week ago and went with gel nails (black base with white lines) which ended up being $45 ($35 + $10 extra for the line art). I initially had gel polish on my nails which ended up being difficult to remove (not their fault!) so that took a lot longer than expected. However, the nail technician who removed my gel polish was really rough on my hands and was not apologetic when I winced in pain. My thumb had a cut near the cuticle and when I grimaced, she looked at me and said, "not my fault I didn't do that." Pretty unnecessary comment since I never blamed her for the cut. She was fast at painting nails and didn't really make any mistakes. Sadly, the white lines I requested were super thick (much thicker than the reference picture I showed her) and definitely not worth the $10 extra for them. I didn't really like the end results. A week later, my nails already started cracking and there's already a chip on my right thumb. Definitely not worth it. Overall, I'm giving this place a 3/5. Nails were shaped well and painted professionally (besides the white line art) for the most part, but sadly my nails are already cracked and the subpar service was not it. Edit: Lowering my review to a 2/5. Two weeks later, 6 of my nails chipped and my nails are pretty thin and brittle to the point that they started chipping. I learned from a different nail technician that using an electric nail drill to remove gel polish on natural nails is really bad and that's what happened with me at this location.

Could not recommend more!! Amazing service. The physical location was clean, and had a very nice atmosphere.

Came in with a nice, smooth, slightly overgrown dip mani (see photos), left with a lumpy, lazy, misshapen dip mani. The technician was heavy handed with the electric drill; filing so deep on my pinky that I flinched in pain, I had to repeatedly tell her that the application was uneven but she just tried to tell me it was my natural nail, but unfortunately for her my natural nail wasn't like that when I came in, in any case no one wants a lumpy manicure and dip is very easy to smooth out. Unsanitary as well, she left gel sloppily around and under my nail-- good thing I don't have an allergy. Plus used "communal dipping methods" ie dipped my nail into the main powder container. Nonetheless, nearing the end of my appointment it was revealed I am in fact 22 and not 14 like she may have assumed; realizing I was a potentially returning client she flipped the switch and tried to get to know me and flatter me. Too late, I was done, my nails were botched and I was looking up other salons. I don't recommend.

Amazing salon! Lucy did such a fantastic job and was patient and kind even as I went back and forth on the color. The shape and length are exactly what I pictured! The salon is super clean and tidy. Will definitely be my go-to place in Ballston.

Walked in for a quick gel French manicure and they were able to squeeze me in. Mandy was friendly and professional. I prefer short neat manicure with a skinny french tip. The nails are perfect! I will definitely be back. Update: I went back 3 weeks later and had another excellent experience at Starlight with Bobo.

I was astounded to see all the good reviews for this business considering my experience. I thought long and hard about writing this because I don't like to write bad reviews but I genuinely have never received a worse manicure in my life. I came to this salon less than 2 weeks ago to have dip powder done. Not only was this $10 more than other salons I've been to ($50 for dip powder) but it was so terribly executed that the "polish" had chipped, cracked, and multiple nails had fallen off within a week of having my nails done. It is now roughly two weeks later and my hair has been getting caught underneath the polish. Additionally, most of the polish has fallen off (see pictures). I have been doing dip powder for over a year and this has NEVER happened before. The woman who did my nails not only rushed, but applied FAR too many layers of powder without shaving the powder down by the cuticle as is normally done. The polish is supposed to be thin by the cuticle and thicker towards the end of the nail. Additionally, because she rushed the top of the polish by my cuticle is ragged instead of smooth and rounded. When I initially left the salon some of my nails were crooked, and one hands nails were shorter than the other. This is absolutely unacceptable. If you do not have the capacity to take on a client, SAY NO. In addition to this awful manicure, ambiance is non-existent, the space is extremely cramped and any semblance of relaxation seizes to exist in the hectic, unorganized mess that is this salon. I wouldn't even go back here to have them "fix" the disaster they created on my nail beds. Moral of the story- don't waste your money here, go to a salon that takes the time to properly complete your nails and gives you the manicure you're looking for.

It was by pure luck I stumbled upon this place and I'm so happy I did. I came out of a doctor's appointment near that area and really wanted to get my nails done while I had time. My usual spot is all booked for next 2 days so I looked up a few different places (there are about 5 around same 2 blocks) and Starlight had the best reviews. Since it was an odd time, 3:30pm during a weekday, I walked in there was no customers. My first reaction was to feel awkward as everyone is staring at me, but that changed immediately. Within seconds, I felt like I was home with my mom and my aunts LOL. Everyone was so warm with lots of questions and smiles. I was sat right away for a regular pedicure and gel manicure immediately after. This salon impressed me in multiple ways and the first one was the little details. They brought out little pack of my favorite Korean cracker, they use hot stone for a regular pedicure (no additional charges) and a long good shoulder massage with my manicure. The gel mani color I chose was fairly light, she patiently putting on layer after layer after layer on and not once seemed annoyed with me. As I was leaving I had the opportunity to chat for a few minutes with the owner, Jenny. She is absolutely incredible and such a sweetheart. The main goal she wants to achieve with this salon is building true and long lasting relationship with clients and make it a place people can come and relax. She is optimistic, driven and so good-hearted. The reality is that, the salon is very intimate and small. Jenny is aware of that she will not be able to compare with the big commercialized places. However, she is happy with her pride and joy because she can create an unique experience for the customers. Also, she has been doing this for 18 years, so please don't hesitate to ask her any questions or tough designs. Jenny said she doesn't charge anyone for coming back getting something fixed because it's not about that, it's about making sure that clients are happy. Now that's a truly extraordinary small business owner! I highly suggest you go visit Jenny and pamper yourself a bit at her salon, you will not regret it. The service is beyond exceptional. I got a pedicure and gel manicure here. The service was excellent, with hot tea and crackers to greet you as you come in. Though there were many walk-ins, I felt that all the employees were really efficient in what they were doing - from pedicures to manicures, eyebrow waxing, etc. and we're very attentive. More specifically about the mani/pedi, the lady who did my pedicure was great and used hot stones to massage, which was an unexpected treat. For my gel manicure, she was very professional with a tough color and was great. I'll definitely be back! read more

I no longer live in Virginia, but when visiting family for the holidays, decided to pop out for a manicure to kill some time...and oh my goodness, WHAT A GEM STARLIGHT NAILS IS. I'm so glad to have found this spot. I've even told my Arlington friends about it since my visit. My gel manicure lasted almost 3 weeks and was near perfect condition when I needed to get a new one. They offer cookies, hot tea, and chocolate for you to enjoy during your services and upon final drying time of your nails, an added bonus of a small neck/back massage. The only other city I have experience this was in New York (apparently it is a standard there ...). I wish all cities would catch onto this extra little treat. Very clean inside and lots of great color options. read more

I have been getting my nails done for many years, and from many cities - we are a military family so we move around a lot. I can honestly say that the service that I received here is none like I have ever experienced. Jenny is amazing! The absolute sweetest and all about customer service. She's so sweet, very welcoming, and just a good-to-the-bones type of gal. I got my nails done by Young. She was extremely careful, and dare I say it, a perfectionist! She gives amazing massages and constantly, carefully checked her work to make sure that my nails came out perfectly. I live in Maryland but I will continue coming back to this location!! Clean facility, fair prices, and superb service. The snacks, treats, and beverages are also a bonus! read more

Came for a little fun pampering with girlfriends on Sunday afternoon. Made an appointment since there were 3 of us. We got there and it was packed. We waited a few minutes to prep 3 pedicure stations in a row for us. They take walk-ins but if you are tight on time, make an appointment. Pedicare was fantastic. The massage portion was the best - well that's the main reason I came. They do a little regular massage followed by hot stone followed by a hot towel. AND when you get a little shoulder rub when waiting for your toes to dry. And you get a snack which never hurts :) read more

This place is amazing! I've gone twice, and each time my nails turn out better than I could have imagined. I get the gel manicure, which is priced great. From the moment I walked in, I knew i would like this spot! Being new to an area, it's hard to find a place you feel comfortable in for services such as nails, hair, and other beauty regimens. Jenny (the owner) greeted me with a warm smile and Nara (my amazing nail tech) came over and sat me at her station. They both were so warm and friendly! Nara gave me an amazing dip manicure that was completed with such detail. She took her time, but wasn't slow and didn't draw out the process. They had SO many dip colors it's always hard to pick just one. I can't wait to go back for a pedicure soon. I will 100% be going back to Jenny and Nara at starlight nails. Thank you! read more

Called to get a pedicure at 3pm on a Friday and they were able to take me right away. It was my first time here, and it did not disappoint! I was immediately greeted by Jenny, who was so sweet. I picked my color and the pedicure started right away. All the ladies are so nice and offered me a beverage. They serve little chocolates and treats as well. Small place but super busy! Definitely worth going here! I think I found my new favorite nail salon. Bella did my gel manicure and she was very careful yet making sure all of my nails were shaped evenly and perfectly. She even went out of her way to match colors from a picture I found on Pinterest. I'm very satisfied with my visit and will be back! Oh and all the other reviews mention it already but they do offer you drinks, crackers and chocolate along with a nice quick back massage! The techs don't speak to each other in their language like every other salon. It's pretty quiet in there. read more

**Update I went in for a gel manicure and they did not have gloves to wear when putting your hands under the uv lamp as another reviewer had stated. I was very disappointed with this because I have very fair skin and I feel like it's necessary for protection. Overall the service was very fast. read more

Worst experience I've had in years. Nails looked ok when I had them done (SNS with tips) but the woman who did them, also ripped a part of my eyebrow off when I asked for a CLEAN UP. Picture below. I have never had this happen in the 15+ years that I've been getting my eyebrows waxed. Nails are now breaking and chipping and disgusting 10 days after getting the SNS. Very nice customer service, but very disappointed in their service. I'd suggest not coming here read more

The owner of this nail salon is very personable and kind! She makes a genuine effort to get to know all of the customers and provide great service. The complimentary snacks and drinks are also a plus. I first came to get my nails done for my engagement party. I got the dip powder manicure as well as a brow and upper lip wax services and was very satisfied. I returned to get my nails done for my engagement pictures. I got the gel manicure, classic pedicure, as well as the brow and upper lip wax. Overall I was very satisfied with the whole experience and will definitely return in the future! They do try their best to accommodate all walk-ins but I would highly recommend making an appointment as they can get pretty busy! read more

I really enjoyed my first experience at this salon; however, my gel manicure began chipping on not one, but three of my nails only two days after my manicure. When I went back to the salon to ask if they did touch ups as my nails were chipped only two days after my manicure, I was told to come back later that night or the next day as they were too busy to help me at that time. In my opinion, as a customer who has already spent their time and money at the salon and is returning because of a salon mess up (gel manicures should last at least two weeks, as this is what I have been told at every other salon in the Arlington area that I've been too), I should've been taken care of as soon as possible. I have already been inconvenienced by having my nails chip after two days, and now I must return to the salon at a later time. When I returned to the salon later that night, my nails were fixed and I was then charged an additional fee. Again, if gel manicures are suppose to last at LEAST two weeks and a customer's nails have chipped after two days, I would think that the salon would fix the nails for free. To top it off, during my first visit at the salon, I witnessed a technician fix another woman's nails and told her that there was no charge. It does not seem that this salon cares much for its customers unless they are regulars. Although the customer service was nice during my first visit, I do not plan on returning after my most recent experience here. read more

OBSESSED. This is my go-to from now on. I work in Ballston but live in Alexandria and thought I had a great place near my house, but Jenny won me over. They remember your name, will give you honest recommendations (even if it's not the most expensive option), don't try to force small talk, MASSAGE YOU WHILE YOUR NAILS DRY, and by the way, do an amazing job on your nails. I have gotten a regular Gel manicure as well as an acrylic tip with SNS. Both were amazing. This pic is of the tip plus SNS-- very neutral because of photoshoot tomorrow. Ask for Jenny. read more

Sara was great! I read the reviews and wanted to come in to get a gel mani with Jenny but she was not there. Since I'm picky, I was hesitant but went for it. I'm so glad I did. Sara was patient, thorough and careful. Tell me this is not the most beautiful set of nails. She noticed that my nails are naturally thick so she did three thin layers of OPI Put It In Neutral. One of the best salons I have been to. They have soda, green tea(hot/cold), and chocolate with some Korean sesame coconut crackers to snack on while you get pampered! Bella was awesome, my nail gel was from China, which is known to be much stronger than US brands and was able to get all of it off without breaking my nails. It was nice to see how careful she was taking off my gel considering how much longer it took to take off. She did a great job! The atmosphere was nice and clean because it was smaller so the staff seemed more attentive and caring than a larger salon would be. read more

I've been to Starlight about 6 times and every experience has been pleasant! I've had my nails done by almost every technician that works here and they are all equally great! Young is one of my favorites. They also do SNS dipping powder gel, which is the next best thing since gel polish. Jenny is the manager here and she is fantastic! She remembers who you are and really wants you to have a spa experience when you are here. They provide drinks and snacks at the beginning and an awesome shoulder/back massage at the end. I highly recommend this salon! read more

This place does a great job and treats its customers well. The biggest issue is timing. If you have an appointment at 4 pm, you have to wait until 420 to get serviced. Appointments don't mean anything. There are times where they will accept you as a walk in and then, they will stop working on you and work on someone else. Ask you to leave and come back later but then make you wait 20 mins. This is a big drawback and keeps happening multiple times. If you have time to spare then, this is the place for you. If you're on a schedule. This isn't it. read more

I had been getting my nails done for about a year not too far away, and I was never satisfied with how they did my nails.. they were never filed down evenly, the paint always ended up on my skin, and the nail edges were never covered with paint. But, I liked the service and the convenient location. Today I had the pleasure of meeting Jamie who made my nails look amazing! She spent the time and gave them some extra TLC, and really took her time painting them to make sure the color was even. She was so friendly and the environment was very relaxing. The back/shoulder massage was a major plus! I will definitely be back to this salon. Ps- lots of good NEW colors! This was a great experience! My friend and I did a walk-in for two pedicures on a Saturday at noon and we were greeted right away and were sat quickly. We didn't need to wait long for technicians to help us and they were very polite, serving us hot tea and Korean crackers and chocolate. We got standard pedicures which also included a hot stone and towel massage and the overall process was quick and seamless. I also got a brief shoulder massage, which was lovely. I made an appointment for a regular polish pedicure. In person I asked for some nail art, which was a gold line down the middle with two gemstones at the bottom of the line. The nail tech told me in order to do the line and gemstones it would be better to do gel polish. I said I did not want this because I knew it was more expensive, and the nail tech told me the nail design wouldn't work out very well with regular polish so it may be best not to do it. I decided to splurge a bit & go for the gel which is $20 more in order to do the design I wanted. After the gel polish was put on, the tech said they didn't have any gems / rhinestones to put on and instead offered something else. I tried to understand what was going on, but probably due to a language barrier I was not able to understand / she was not able to explain. What she was suggesting did not look good and did not look anything like the design I showed her, so I walked out with just a gold line down the middle of my big toe nails. She did not charge me the $5 each for that design because she knew it was not what I asked for, but I still spent $20 more than planned ONLY because I was told I had to for the design. The pedicures here are a great value! I've gotten several and the experience is always superb as you've probably seen in other reviews (snacks, great massage chairs, everything looks very clean, they massage your shoulders at the end, etc.). I do recommend that you make a reservation if you can though, especially if going on the weekend. It is a fairly small set-up so the seats can fill up quickly. read more

You know when you walk out of a nail salon feeling like you own the world? Yeah...that was my feeling exactly after my first visit to Starlight Nails. And it wasn't just the meticulous gel manicure and the perfect pedicure that did the trick; it was the personal and detailed service that set this shop apart from many others in the area. The owner, Jenny, 'gets' customer service. The moment I walked in, she greeted me with a smile, took my coat, helped me remove my boots and prompted me to take a seat, hot water already running (I made a mid-afternoon appointment through Yelp). And before the nail technician started pampering my feet, I had a plate of cookies, a chocolate, and a hot tea on my arm chair. Service. Jenny herself took care of my gel manicure, and did a meticulous job, all the while giving me a rundown of how she became owner of the shop. Once my nails were dry, she gave me a surprise shoulder massage. Again...service! Overall I paid $65 for my gel manicure ($35) and regular pedicure ($30). I loved every minute of my visit at Starlight. I think I found my little oasis near the office. read more

Like a lot of other reviewers, I happily discovered Starlight Nails through Yelp while I was looking for a nail salon close to my office to run to during lunch. Jenny and her team couldn't have been any nicer and the level of service was consistently top-notch throughout my visit - they offered chocolates and refreshments, a clean and efficient manicure, and even a short neck massage while my nails were drying! I would definitely recommend trying out Starlight Nails next time you're in the Ballston/Virginia Square neighborhood. read more

Do not recommend. Got a gel manicure here. It was done by "Sarah". I asked that my nails be shortened because I have a difficult time typing with long nails - request ignored! My main problem with the manicure is that the polish application is very, very patchy - clear in some spots, pink polish in others. Two nails have large holes without polish and the thumb has bumps on it. I paid $45 for a manicure that I am removing once I'm home. May take pictures and dispute the charge with credit card company. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Had I been told about this new policy beforehand, I would have canceled the appointment before making the trip and avoided both the inconvenience and the $35 fee. I've been a loyal client for around two years, and this experience was incredibly disappointing. The lack of communication, combined with charging a credit card that I never authorized to be on file, is unacceptable. This is not how long-time clients should be treated.

I've been getting pedicures for decades and the bottom of my feet are always treated (remove dry skin) either a pedicure and no salon has ever asked me if I wanted the bottom of my feet's dry skin removed because it's always included. Vanessa said, "what did I expect for $22?" I said I expected what the advertisement said, "a regular pedicure." She's a scam artist.

This was my first time at Starlight Nails and I will absolutely be coming back! I had a regular pedicure and expected to be rushed in and out on a Saturday afternoon, but the woman did a GREAT job and I didn't feel rushed at all. The polish was spot on and nothing needed to be fixed. While my nails were drying, I talked to Jenny, the owner, who was extremely helpful and welcoming. The service here was good, they were very nice and seemed to take their time with my nails. However, it's been 7 days that I've had this gel manicure on and they're already cracking and peeling. Not to mention, I got my nails painted white and the polish is completely discolored. I don't even know what's happening but you can clearly see in the pics that something in the polish is separating and it looks terrible. I paid $45 and am going to have to remove these ASAP.
