The Hub and I have only come here for dinner once (by ourselves). We enjoyed our meal (also, their apple cider mimoas are amazeballs) and would like to come back again for dinner (or lunch), but what brings us back is the breakfast. Ohh the breakfast. You guys haven't tasted breakfast heaven until you've had their homemade bacon and cheddar tots. It's essentially heaven. Their oreo pancakes-- ohmyyum. My husband especially loves the challah french toast. He judges places on their french toast and gives them multiple thumbs up. Their eggs are good, their bacon is good, their waffles are good, their sausage is good.... Everything is good, people. Everything. If you try to go on a Sunday, you'll be waiting 20 minutes or more. Because everyone loves this place. If you don't you're just weird. I guess you could still be a lovely person and all, just weird (not that I'm weird or anything). Amid the chaos are smiling, friendly, attentive servers and hosts/esses who keep the masses organized. I'm always amazed that they keep things moving and how well they keep their customers happy despite the crowds and the lines! This is a kid friendly establishment as well. Everyone is nice, even when waiting for a long time for food. We will always come back. Parking is tight, but if you go across the way next door to Stars, there's a small strip of businesses (a restaurant, a nail salon, etc)...there's parking there. read more

Excellent, excellent breakfast on the south shore. I was also impressed because it looked like a long wait, but we were seated in less than 10 minutes of arriving. No complaints about service, our waitress was very nice and so was the front of house staff. I got the Country Style breakfast which came with 3 eggs your way, buttery cornbread, sausage, bacon, baked beans, and homefries. I subbed my homefries for those cheddar tots everyone is talking about and was NOT disappointed! They are unreal. Also, how can you go wrong with this much protein in the AM? Definitely sure to cure a hangover... The two people I was with also got The Bostonian, which was also a great, hearty choice. The stars is the best place to go if you have kids . It is great service it can be slow but other than that there bathroom are a little old but cool and they have a bar and I think 80s video games it is great to keep the kids distracted you may have seen pictures yes it is near the harbor but you may see pictures that are outdated a lot nice people who work there . read more

Stars is a great come-as-you-are kind of restaurant and bar without all the Hingham-stereotype stuffiness that is sometimes associated when someone says, "Hey, let's go out for dinner in Hingham." The Phantom Gourmet has covered Stars before and when the Phantom says go, just go!! When you walk into the restaurant, there is a large bar area with ample seating (and booths, too) so people can watch a game and listen to the live music when offered. On the left is the general dining area. The booths are comfortable, but the tables are a little tight. Get comfortable and examine the large drink menu. If there's one thing you try - either in the general dining area or in the bar - you just have to try the buffalo chicken rangoons. Anyone that create a concoction with buffalo chicken and the concept of a rangoon has already won my heart over. They're salty and spicy at the same time and when dipped in to blue cheese dressing it makes you completely forget about any diet that you may have been on. Funny how that happens... My fiance had the cannonball burger - burger with cheddar, bacon, and barbecue sauce (if I remember correctly), along with fries. The burger itself looked like a heart attack on a plate. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The "wasabi" coleslaw advertised with it was certainly no joke. I'm a big fan of spicy food, but the coleslaw was near "nuclear" so if you aren't a fan of spicy, you'll want to ask for it on the side. My sandwich itself was extremely tasty and the barbecue sauce offset the spice of the coleslaw. I opted for the sweet potato fries that, although not hand-cut, they were crispy rather than soggy. Another point for Stars! There are two obvious "complaints" here. First, the parking is ridiculous. There is no marked way to navigate around the parking lot and people are notorious for making up their own spots. During the "off-season" and "off-hours" of the businesses across the street, people seem to park over there when they can't find a parking spot in the Stars lot. The road outside of Stars is not well-lit, so you need to be extra careful when crossing the street in the dark! The second is the noise. I get it, it's a bar. I understand it's a busy restaurant. But the ceilings are high and hollow. The restaurant can get LOUD, so be prepared to hear the table next to you. And if there's a rowdy table of drunk fisherman that just got off the boat next to your table... please cover your children's ears. Next on my list: covering brunch at Stars. Stay tuned!! Great staff, solid food, and the best beer selection in the area. Main complaint is an extremely limited selection of meatless meals. But I go more to relax on weekend night, maybe catch a little sports action on the big TVs. Haute cuisine it ain't, but it satisfies. What a treat after almost 4 months not being able to go to one of my favorite places for a meal. Staycation and decided to go to Stars Hingham for breakfast. Wasn't sure what to expect after all these months closed but we were pleasantly surprised with all the changes. We felt really comfortable. Felt like being on vacation. New and fresh renovations in the dining area. Plenty of space for Social distancing. Wait staff namely Laura O was absolutely wonderful. Pleasant, Professional friendly, attentive and efficient. Practicing social distancing and fully masked. Food was delicious as usual. I had the 4th of July Special, Lobsters Benny. Perfect dish to start off the holiday weekend. Nice tender tasty buttered lobster meat under two perfectly poached eggs on top of grilled corn bread smothered in a decadent bernaise sauce accompanied with sweet potato home fries. Should be on the menu all year round. Wife ordered her usual, 2 fried eggs, sausages, home fries and grilled blueberry muffin. We also added a side of blueberry Stars Cakes. Absolutely delicious!! We went here for an early dinner last night. We were so disappointed! The girl sat us at a booth and didn't come back for our drink order for 15 minutes. When she did finally come back, she said she was having a bad morning. It was 5:00 in the afternoon. I then ordered a drink and asked for a short glass, and she came back with a tall tulip shaped glass, and said this was their short glass. She forgot the lime for my drink. She then tried to rush our food order. They're were only people at a couple other tables. My husband and I had one drink and left. We were so turned off. We'll never go back here again. There was another server in our section, and he was acting clueless too. No thank you to Stars on Hingham Harbor. I don't ever want to hear about what kind of day the server is having. I'm out for dinner to have an enjoyable experience not listen to someones bad day. read more

I grew up in the early 90's in the area and we used to come here as a family. My dad and I were back in town and decided to see if it was still here. Yep...and thriving! This was like a trip down memory lane. The wings are still juicy and delish. Their chowder is still winning local awards, just like back in the day. And the beer selection remains outstanding. Came here on a Friday night at 7 pm. It was busy and was told a 40 minute wait. This was after standing at the host stand for 10 minutes without acknowledgement. I got a beer at the bar and was seated after 20 minutes. Waitress was okay, I had to grab silverware from a neighboring table. I got the lobster roll and it was fantastic. Definitely worth the $28. Overall the food was great, service was okay, once you got past the host. It looked like the host was overwhelmed and on his own with no help or support. He was taking orders, getting take out orders and seating people. Get that poor man some help. I saw several customers give up and leave after standing in line for 10 to 15 minutes. A good manager would recognize a problem and adjust. read more

This place is definitely our new favorite!! Robbie was our server and his energy and enthusiasm are contagious!! Hubs had a Fiddlehead IPA, and an American Kobe burger; I had a strawberry basil lemonade and a bison burger. So so good. We started our meal with the pretzel bites - is it weird that I also kind of wanted them for dessert? Bottom line: we cannot wait to come back!! Seriously awesome place. They have a great craft beer tap list (about 20 on draft) and the options to create your own flights (about $9). Service was good as well. Nice, friendly, people. Food was great! My fish sandwich had a good amount of fish on it, but the highlight was the fried clam flatbread special (SO GOOD!). Wow wow wow. The bacon tater tots are fantastic!! The apple chicken maple sausages are delicious as well! I got the whites which was egg white omelette with turkey bacon, spinach caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese with a side of cranberry muffin and sweet potato home fries. Everything was literally mouth watering good hahahaha. But those tater tots were to die for. Well it finally happened. After so many years of offering crispy, shredded, home made or high quality brought in corned beef with their Irish Benedict, Stars finally decided to cave and coast, dumping canned mush pellets out of a hormel can on my plate, and raising the price to over $15, including tax. Total disrespect of an affluent town, assuming nobody knows the difference and they can coast by on reheated canned slop. For shame, Stars. For those prices you should be bring your own corned beef and cutting it to order, bringing in passionate customers from all over the south shore. Instead, coast and short term profit. Unfortunately culinary standards around here are so weak and bland, youll probably get away with it. After hundreds of Irish Benedicts over 15 years and having the first one in over a year, just found out its my last. Any diners out there making from scratch hashes for breakfast? This review is for three visits in the last month. First, it's better to go during the week. The weekends are packed and there is usually a wait. The food is good and they have decent specials and breakfast cocktails. I especially liked their cinnamon french toast, which is made from house-made cinnamon bread. The reason for the 3-stars is for the service. On my 3rd visit, which was during the week, I sat at the bar for a full 10 - 15 minutes and not once was approached by any of the staff to take my order or ask if I wanted coffee. Went here for brunch recently on a Saturday. Waited about 10 minutes for a table for 2. Ordered bloody mary's, pancakes, and an omlette. Everything was absolutely delicious and really hit the spot. The service was ok, we had to flag down our waiter for syrup, ketchup and hot sauce. She was nice but clearly a bit overwhelmed. I'm stunned at the reviews this place gets. Outside of a great location I don't have a single positive thing to say after two visits. Parking can be a challenge but not too bad. First time was just me and my gf, the second time with my parents. The first time we missed breakfast, which apparently ends at noon. We sat in the bar area and had lunch. I ordered a chicken sandwich which was dried out and boring as hell. I don't remember what she had. The next trip we made sure to get there at 11:30 even though half our party wanted lunch and half wanted breakfast. We were given a choice of breakfast or lunch, not both, and in addition our choice impacted where we were seated. The place isn't that big but according to the host the breakfast part of the kitchen shuts down and blah blah blah...We received soggy calamari, salty clam chowder, and salty but otherwise bland mac and cheese. There is not a better, more reasonably priced, more creative, delicious, well serviced, fantastic location to have breakfast near here! Let's start with the coffee, not your typical mediocre diner coffee - its fantastic! They are also diligent about refilling and every cup tastes fresh. The breakfast menu has every egg, pancake, waffle, hash concoction you could hope for. The sweet potato hash browns are SO stinking yummy! The specials menu incorporates fresh seasonal ingredients and is always worth trying. Turkey bacon is the best I have ever tasted, the breads used in French toast and side toasts are from their local bakery, and prices are extremely reasonable. The portions are huge and food so good you'll have trouble not cleaning your plate. Today they had homemade "pop tart" pastries with fresh wildberries... Sweet Jesus these were divine. We were planning to spend the afternoon exploring Hingham and a quick Yelp search revealed that Stars had a gluten free menu and was open for brunch. It was easy to find and situated right across the street from the harbor. The AC was only working in half the restaurant, but we opted to sit in the non AC section because we're tough (and didn't want to wait 20-30 minutes for AC). The brunch menu is awesome and goes well beyond your typical diner brunch fare. Sweet potato home fries, homemade muffins, chicken apple sausage - and those are just some of the unique sides. They also have a TON of gluten free options and will happily substitute the toast with a gluten free bagel for no extra charge. The food tasted as good as it looked and we were very satisfied and full and ready for a day of adventure. Hingham might be a trek for a lot of people, but if you have a gluten allergy and are looking for some great food before hitting the beach park I would highly recommend Stars. read more

Just got back from Stars on Hingham, which I wish I could say lived up to it's name. But alas it is more like -star on Hingham. As in one star. What bums me out more than anything about this place is its waste of prime real estate. It has a stellar location right off the highway and the possibility to be a cash cow.. however.. I will admit that I tend to do a bit of nosing around in order to determine if I will deem a place acceptable. In other words, I hang around the kitchen, stare in, see what type of response I get, look for anything mentionable. The floor was disgusting. No big deal if the place is busy or they had a long day, but it is certainly a litmus test for any kitchen. Then our food came. Initially the food all seemed quite good. After taking a bite of the fish n chips I noticed a particular odor/taste. I asked my girlfriend what she thought of the fish. "A bit off" was her reply. After further inspection of tasting and then breaking a piece open and taking a good whiff I had it. Plastic. Or some other chem-odor. The thing literally smelled and tasted like a vinyl glove or maybe a band-aid. More thoughtfully, it is as if it had been deep fried directly after or alongside some foodservice gloves. Nasty. The waitstaff was acceptable while nothing to write home about. My honest advice: stay away lest you risk health and heart to the poorly trained foodhandling practices at this joint. read more

Stars has yet to impress me. I have enjoyed their buffalo wings and their beer selection but ultimately the place doesn't stand out when it's good and is disappointing when it's bad. I had one rough experience with their 'Juicy Lucy' burger - which is a a cheese filled burger. Mine was raw in the middle while crispy outside. Pressed for time for lunch I wasn't able to send it back. They took it off the bill so I ultimately don't have much ill-will but the cook was clearly not schooled on how to handle this particular burger's cooking needs. I have also had a Cobb Salad there and breakfast. Neither were very good. Not so bad I left hungry but I don't see why I should return either. Finally, a decent breakfast in the Hull/Hingham area! First, I have 3 magical words for you that are key to any good breakfast - "real maple syrup". Yeah, they've got it here....albeit at a small charge (~$1.25) which I am happy, happy, happy to pay. During the week there are cheap breakfast specials (2 eggs, toast, home fries, tea/coffee for $3.95) and on the weekends the specials are a bit more "eclectic". Pancakes are amazing (I think they put some cornmeal in them) but I found the french toast to be dry. Others have noted that the sweet potato home fries are nummy. Breakfast meats are lovely - thick sausages, crispy bacon. The toast is a bit "granola" for me - fireking freaky-seeded stuff - but I guess that's supposed to be a bit more upscale than good ole Wonder Bread, eh? Other bakery items (muffins, etc.) are quite good as well (made there, so they should be!). Sometimes they forget that although they may be part of the whole Tosca family, they are a diner and put together weird combos that just don't work. Now I'm all for creativity in my dining, but not creativity for creativity's sake. If it results in something that delights my taste buds, bring it on. Otherwise, knock it off - it isn't cute, endearing, impressive or necessary. The drinks for breakfast are quite good and surprisingly reasonably priced! The Bloody Mary's are amazing. My other favorite is a clever concoction of Rockstar, Tang, and vodka called the Hingham Sunrise. It will wake you up and get you ready to hit the beach in no time. I'm very excited to have found a place on the South Shore with a decent amount of Gluten Free options! From bagels to beer, Stars is a little heaven for us "Gluten-freers" on the South Shore!
