Great vibe for a fun lively happy hour! It is definitely loud In the evening so don't go in thinking you will have a calm and quiet meal. The food was delicious bar style food. We ordered the pretzel and the cauliflower wings to start. If you've never tried cauliflower wings do yourself a favor and try them! They are tasty and crunchy and I like to think they're significantly better for me than wings but with the same great taste! Also, a pretzel with beer of course you need it! For my meal I ordered the hot chicken sandwich, and it was amazing! Just what I wanted with the amber beer! It had a great flavor, was crunchy with enough sauce (a hint of sweetness) and was very large! I will definitely order again and split it with my fiancé. We have previously been to this place and while the food was mostly good, service seemed to be lacking. We decided to give it another try; and boy were we happy that we did! It turns out that they have a new manager who started. He checked in on us to make sure our food was cooked how we wanted it. We saw him bussing tables, so he seems like a hard worker and a team player. Food was excellent and the service was prompt. Our waitress checked in on us multiple times. We never waited long for anything. We spoke to the new manager after our meal and he sounded eager to make things better. So far, I will say he is doing a great job. Stay far away from this place!! We arrived at the restaurant at 6:50 and it was about 1/2 full. Our server met us as we walked in and brought us to a table. The table was dirty, but she went and got a rag and wiped it off. Unfortunately, all she did was push all the dirty stuff from the table onto the booth we were to sit in. We pushed all the food off onto the floor. We ordered drinks. Ten minutes later we were told they were out of the only brand of Chardonnay available on the menu. No problem, we ordered sauvignon that came out 10 minutes later, in the carafe but with no wine glass. We asked our server about a glass and she said that they don't have wine glasses. I asked again and she was unhelpful. I went to the bar and saw wine glasses but they were kind of behind the counter. I waited until our server was near and asked if I could grab one and she made a noise and I grabbed one. It took a little over 20 minutes for us to get our drinks. Then the waiting for our food began. Our server took our order. We waited for 50 minutes and no food came. We were starving, so I went and got our server and asked about our food. She said it was coming. Finally, almost an hour later, our two burgers showed up and we could tell they looked bad. My wife asked for the tots, but her meal came with fries. We pointed that out and our server did get us tots within a couple of minutes. I asked for silverware because we never got any, and cut into my burger. I ordered my burger medium, but it was well done. My wife and I both touched our burgers and they were not warm at all. We grabbed our server and asked to see a manager. She said she could remake it, but we told her we were done. She went to tell the manager. After waiting for 10 minutes to see the manager, I asked if the manager was coming and our server said she told him we wanted to see him. Another 5 minutes later the manger came out and said that the kitchen staff was new and they were training them. We wondered how that is our problem? All we wanted was some food and, an hour and a half later, we had nothing we had asked for. We asked to pay for our drinks so we could leave, and the manager and our server went over to the computer screens. We waited for them to return with our bill. Several minutes passed and I finally went over and asked what we owed so we could leave. The manager seemed annoyed that I came over, and said that he told us he would take care of our drinks. He never told us that. This was our worst experience ever at a restaurant. Stay away. read more

The BEST server is gone!! We have been coming to State 48 since they've opened. The food is hit or miss (the menu recently changed and we were sad about that), the beer is good. The wait staff kept turning over but one constant was Sierra. She was ALWAYS awesome. She was kind, she kept our drinks full, she cared about State 48-we loved how she decorated it for Christmas. She made an effort to get to know us. We never had to tell her what beer we wanted, what drinks our kids wanted...SHE KNEW! We are very upset to hear that she was let go. read more

State 48 just finished building a new restaurant and bar at Norterra and we tried it on a Monday night. The facility is really big. There are multiple floors of inside dining and a massive outdoor space with all sorts of games like corn hole and ping pong. We sat inside at a hightop with comfy chairs. Although there is an epic beer selection on tap, we had cocktails which were acceptable but a bit lackluster. The food is fairly well executed. I enjoyed the steak wrap which had lots of melty blue cheese oozing over tender steak and onions inside a warm tortilla. We also shared a meatball app. The meatballs are tender and hot and smothered in a tasty tomato sauce. Our server was attentive and helpful and the drinks and food came out fast. I was disappointed that I could not order anything off of the lunch menu. There were many lighter items on the lunch menu that I would have preferred for a Monday dinner. I also noticed there were no happy hour specials. If there was, they kept it a state secret. In summary, State 48 is fun, roomy, and has a big beer selection. Stopped in for drinks on Saturday afternoon and was lucky enough to get seats at the bar. Bartenders were great, very engaging and attentive. Fiancé liked her wine which can be hit or miss in a beer place. Beer was on point which has taken the State 48 brand a while to figure out (a story for another time). The Riptide Red is the best red ale I've ever had and trust me, I've tried a lot of them. Place has kind of a cool vibe going, better than some of their other properties. Why the 4 out of 5? I was really disappointed they don't have a Crowler machine. Yes, I could have gotten a Growler, but Crowler's are beginning to be a "must have" for any place serving craft beer. read more

I've been looking forward to this place opening for quite a while. I really like the other State 48 places I've visited. Today I had the steak wrap (with blue cheese!) I was great. half of it filled me up. I'm an IPA fan. I tried the low calorie Speak Softly and it was light and hoppy. I also had a Rough Rider IPA. It was great, but a bit high in alcohol for day drinking. The staff was friendly and attentive. The venue looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing bands here. read more

Unfortunately inconsistent. We came back after an exceptional experience before. The wait was short and the service was still excellent but the food was sub par. We both ate the same meal as last time but we were disappointed. My wings were soggy and the sauce only partially covered the wings. My salad was still great. My husband had the hot chicken. The chicken was rubbery and almost seemed undercooked. The bun was soggy and it just wasn't great like last time. This was a huge let down as we thought we found a great place- I guess it depends who is in the kitchen :( as we were leaving a live band started to play. Went here for a late lunch on Mother's Day. It was not slow, but definitely not busy. Our service was terrible. Not one time did our server have a smile on her face - it was like she was forced to be there and was just miserable. That's a huge downer when you're with family, having good conversation and drinks. I had to get up a couple times to find someone, anyone, to request drink refills. The food was ok. I recommend people to only get beer at this location and sit at the bar. Do NOT sit at a table. We went in last night for my brothers pre birthday celebration and went for dinner. It was not busy at all. Which is odd since it was a Sunday. Most places weekends are packed. We sat down our waitress seemed nice. Then once we put in our orders all the mistakes started piling up. My husband asked for the Nashville hot chicken sandwich also know as the hot chick on the menu. 1.) She said they don't have those kind of sandwiches at all just tenders. Okay? Maybe the menu needs to be updated and crossed out then? Just a thought. 2.) My husband asked for tots instead of fries so our 3 year old had options other than just fries. He's a potato guy. Guess what came out. FRIES. So she thankfully noticed once it came out. BUT: she said oh let me bring you some not let me get that switched out for you. He told her not to worry about it. She said she was gonna bring additional tots out. NEVER ONCE CAME OUT. And guess what. She charged us for it then asked us if we wanted to bring a box home. Are you kidding me that's absolutely disgusting who brings fried stuff home it never tastes good once you leave. Like why charge us for your mistake? Like is this girl actually serious?? 3.) My husband ordered a Mexican lager. She brings out a blueberry wheat beer of some sort. Not even remotely close. They are different in price and more expensive. Times are tough and we are pregnant with our second every penny counts. She tried to argue and say there wasn't a difference but once you ring it up you see that there was a difference. Even says on the menus. So those were just the mistakes. Now on to the food. Just atrocious. I think it's just the location. Because downtown Phoenix i was blown away and not pregnant when we went in either December or January before a show. The food there was amazing. The wings, the burgers and sandwiches. Service was insane but food wise was incredible. Happy valley location just awful. Not one plate of food that we ordered did i care for. I couldn't even stomach multiple bites of any plate. We ordered the fish and chips for my son and i to share along with Buffalo& citrus hibiscus glazed wings. My husband ordered the meatloaf melt. Not one dish. I was starving too. I literally had a protein shake the entire day until we got there. Do yourself a huge favor and don't get food here. Save your money. The fish and chips tartar sauce variation they give you is barf worthy it's so sweet. Lemon didn't even help the fish to make it taste better. We rode our bikes to Norterra to enjoy some dinner, and wanted to try this despite the mediocre reviews. Ordered the AZ mule (which was just a classic vodka mule) and it was the worst I've ever had. It seemed to me like it was the ginger beer; old and flat. But the woman who originally was our server who took our food and drink order never returned. Instead, 30 minutes later, a male server came by to say he was going to be taking over (@6:50 pm). He kindly had the manager take the mule off and I ordered a mango margarita instead. Another mistake as it was pure sugar, zero tequila, and not even salt or sugar on the rim. On to the food. Can't remember the exact name, but my fiancé got a Cajun like chicken and mushroom pasta. I ordered the ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The food was ICE cold. My fiancé and I have a strict zero return policy. As in, we never send the food back and ask for it to be remade. First, because it's a waste, and second: you have no idea what they're going to do with the next one if they are frustrated they have to remake it. I don't think it wasn't the kitchen's fault, but the female server we originally had who just wanted to leave and couldn't care to communicate to our new server that the food was probably ready to be run for 15 minutes. The wasabi mashed potatoes were pure horseradish in flavor. It was definitely a gamble ordering this dish, and I'm sure if it was properly executed it could have been tasty. Then they had the balls to serve it with steamed/unseasoned green beans. The meal was $22. It was gross. The ahi tuna was cooked perfectly, I'm sure it would have even been enjoyable if it was even lukewarm. I barely ate half of mine and stole a few pieces of my fiancés for sustenance for the bike ride home. I ended up having to reheat left over Pizza Hut..yay Also, they had the Peyton & Eli on one tv that was delayed by 10 seconds and the other TVs were 10 seconds fast. So I would hear the announcer yell touchdown before I even saw it. Kinda hard to enjoy the game when you are hearing things happen before you see it This place will not make it if these are common first impressions. Wife and I stopped here for lunch before shopping. Service was pretty good and fast but they seemed a bit disorganized. We were served an app we didn't order, heard the table behind us get the wrong side. My fish was really good, fries and coleslaw were ok. Wife ordered a shrimp salad but it was missing Caesar dressing, raisin, croutons, walnuts, and cheese. When we asked they said they didn't have any of those ingredients. I guess instead of them telling us they tried to service is just lettuce and ranch to get by. Not sure how they thought we wouldn't catch that.
