So we went for a retirement party for one of my amazing coworkers! The space was beautiful and spacious. However I dont think they were prepared for the amount of people that attended. We were told we would have two servers but there was only one and she was literally running around like a chicken with its head cut off...lol. Then when we tried to go onside to order our selves they said we couldn't because we had a server...like what so u don't want this money. Came with friends to hangout. We got wings to share and they could have been better. They are good they just need to be more saucy/spicy. My friend got the beets salad and it was huge! We got the steak wrap, pb&j burger, grilled salmon and the hot chicken sandwich. The pb&j burger was okay. The hot chicken sandwich was not spicy at all. Saturday August 23,2025 Just now we got our food from State 48 Rock House at NorTerra . Our order was incorrect. We had ordered our grandson a chicken finger meal with French fries and a lemonade. We got 2 chicken fingers. No French fries or lemonade. When I called to let them know, I was speaking to the manager, Alyssa. All she kept saying was her ticket showed no French fries. For the record Alyssa... we got NO French fries OR LEMONADE. She continued to say the ticket in front of me says...she continued to repeat the ticket in front of me says...Alyssa. You get a failing grade in customer service. You didn't listen to hear. You didn't listen. You kept repeating the same thing over and over. The point of my call was to figure out how to make this right. You had NO interest in helping me do that. I told you your restaraunt is consistently bad at getting our family take out orders right. You said nothing other than repeating what the ticket in front of you said. You might reconsider. As a manager your job is to make sure your customers are happy with the food they have purchased and the experience they have had. You bombed on all accounts with our family tonight. Easy fix. Apologize profusely and ask how YOU could make it right. Simple. It's our fault for coming back again hoping for a good meal and experience. You TOTALLY missed the mark again Alyssa and State 48. This is just recommendation. I feel like this place has so much potential. I know it's not easy to fulfill this request, and have you heard of this place called The Yard on 7th Street just south of Bethany Home Rd? It connects 3 restaurants together, one of them being Culinary Dropout. When you first opened, you had a similar concept, and then you changed it got rid of the ping pong tables, and added more dining tables outside. It's 115 degrees outside. Maybe more misters, more fans, and more spaces for small tables that hold your drinks and more spaces for interactive gaming. I know it's not easy to just change stuff around, and I feel you have the space to copy the exact same thing and make it more inviting. Don't reinvent the wheel. Literally copy the same floor-plan they have outdoors, and make it more inviting. This side of town needs something fun, and State 48 Brewery is on the brink of something spectacular. They missed the mark for me today. Came in just to grab a bite to eat and check out the place. The outside patio area is huge. The inside is kind of smaller but they do have an upstairs where it looked like they were having a private party! We ordered a Burger with fries and the Buffalo DIp. Well first off, we had to ask for napkins and silverware when our food arrived. The fries were lukewarm. Buffalo Dip looked like it had been sitting all afternoon the cheese and oils started to separate. The burger my honey ate and didn't have much to say. Then I found a hair in my fries not a deal breaker but when she brought it back to me. I found another hair in it after eating two or 3 fries. This just grossed me out even more considering I just sent the fries back for that. I won't return, too many other places to enjoy. Also, when she took my fries away she came right back within 1 minute to bring the new ones. They were not steaming hot and just way to fast of a turn around Ok!!! State 48 Rock House hit the mark on all four accounts! Looking for small plates to share - check! County Health Score, a wonderfully high 95 - check! Distance not far from my temporary address in Deer Valley - check! And generally great reviews from other patrons - check! I was off to the races, so to speak, with my spouse. We had a trip finding the place since it's in the middle of the large Norterra Shopping Mall, but we arrived and the server seated us on the second floor above most of the action downstairs -- an amazing colorfully lighted bar below with a host of brews on tap primarily from their brewery in Surprise, AZ. There's also a large covered outdoor patio with a side of it dedicated to corn hole, billiards, ping pong and other games. We ordered chicken wings with tangy mustard and beer bbq sauces and Ranch dressing for dipping: yummy and tender and tasty to the last bite As a second side, shrimp/avocado ceviche with tortilla chips satisfied our palate, although the first batch of chips tasted stale and we traded them for fresher ones. The spouse enjoyed his feast with a house IPA (fruity and refreshing), and a mild and smooth house German Pilsner accompanied my entree. Our server treated us well - no complaints. The only improvements might be the loud music everywhere in the House (we know it's part of a brewery atmosphere yet hoped the upstairs would render us a bit quieter place for conversation), and perhaps a small packaged wet wipe or two with each serving of wings. Unfortunately y'all were at your peak during Covid. Every visit since has been worse and worse; with longer periods of time between visits hoping for improvements. The menu has gotten smaller and smaller, the service worse and worse. And we tried to go again today- hoping it has improved. No such luck. It was not busy at all but waited for the hostess to appear. She asked where we wanted to sit and we requested the patio to enjoy this nice December weather. We were told to pick a table and she'd bring the menus. Any open tables were dirty. Either with dirty dishes or empty but dirty. We let the hostess know but after many minutes, nobody made an effort to bus a table. So we picked another table by the garage doors. After many more minutes, not a single server came over to us, and still no patio tables cleaned per our original request. As we looked around, many waitstaff were on their phones. Went here for a quick drink and evening bite as we didn't want to spend a long in dining being in a pandemic. I am really glad that finally, we have a brewery in our neighborhood, that too a good one that is one of the famous chains in Scottsdale that I loved when I visited months back. Great open high rise open-air design brewery. It's huge and great for happy hour fun. I just wish it was not the time of year that everyone is restricting themselves to go out and dine-in. Tons of tables and pet friendly too. Coming to food and drinks. Decent varieties of bar food but their beer is awesome and I loved it. I am yet to explore all the options but I and my wife will do it soon once this pandemic settles down. This is in a great location inside the happy valley town center and I highly recommend this place. I am surprised to see many customers are not happy with the place when this is the very first brewery in the neighborhood and they are good enough. My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time tonight (10/5 around 6pm) before a movie and we were so impressed! The food was great and the beer was amazing! I'm mostly just writing this review so management can hear about our server. Our server was Alyssa A (or Lyssa A, not sure which) and I just want to give her some credit. She was on top of everything constantly and never made us wait for water, our food, or anything. She overheard my husband and I talking about a baseball game that was on and saw us checking the score on my phone. Without us even asking, she put the game on the TV nearest our booth since it was pretty slow, and it made our night! She was so sweet and personable and made our first experience wonderful. She said she has a 3-month-old baby at home and I am so impressed by how hard she worked! If we could've we would have tipped her much much more. Lazing around this afternoon, chillaxin', craving' some good eats but not in the mood to fix 'em. My wife, browsing Yelp came across State 48 and before you know it, we were there at a table for two. This is not your ordinary "Grub Pub". This is a classy hipster sports bar where even "old" folks like us are welcome. We like small plates and 48 has an ample selection of them. We had the avocado & shrimp ceviche with chips and a plate of ten wings paired with a Pilsner and an IPA ... good snackin'. Not to little - not too much ... just the right amount. The chips were on the stale side but our server swapped them out right away. All beers on the menu, except for two, are crafted and brewed in house and they are superb. The vibe is great. On game nights I'm sure they're rockin'! Indoor and outdoor seating available. Such a great place to unwind with friends after work and/or with that special someone. Server had 10 tables and pretty sure was only server working. We got PB&J burger, buffalo dip, and Pasta. All of it had no seasoning, pretty sure I didn't have any jelly on my burger, and the buffalo dip had no buffalo flavoring in it hardly. Worse service ever. I made reservations for 12 online for my oldest kid's 8th grade graduation on a Wed. We arrive about 5 minutes early for a 7:15 reservation. There was a line at least 3 groups deep and no one in site. After waiting for about 10 minutes the first couple left. The woman in front had made a reservation for 25. We both waited for another 15 minutes for someone to come by. There was no host and barely had someone working at the bar. A waitress finally came by and asked if we had been helped and I told her no and that we had reservations for 12 and the woman in front had one for 25. She ok and would get someone to help. Another 5 minutes go by and the reservation for 25 leaves. It's almost 7:45 and no one around. My father was told by another waitress that there was no host and the owner should be helping but of course we never saw him. There were plenty of open tables but no one to seat us. We started getting worried that even if we got sat we could even get food. We called around and most restaurants had an hour wait for our size party. I had two elderly people- one in a wheel chair and the other with a cane. Yet no one around thought to come talk to us. Thank goodness Pita Jungle next door had an opening and could seat us so we left. At no point in time did anyone say to us that they were sorry and they couldn't take our party or to just have a seat. They just walked by and ignored us. So we left and dropped $300 next door. Will not be back, I suggested State 48 after dinner at Ah So around the corner (my wife and 5 other couples) when I got there, friends had already been seated. I went straight to the bar to order a drink for my wife and I. (2 bartenders just standing there and knew it would take a while to get served outside) was told I can't order from bar if have a table. Went back outside and waited 15 min for 1st drink. Finally closed my tab 60 minutes later after only receiving 2 of 3 drinks ordered. Asked them to take off the drink I never received, was told NO. So paid full tab with tip and will frequent other establishments. On the good side the 2 drinks I did get were good, and my friends did enjoy their deserts. read more

I didn't want much, just wanted to have some with my food. We ordered the pretzels with ipa mustard and beer cheese to start. Amazing pretzels! They were perfect! I actually loved that they were soft. The dips were great and perfectly paired with the pretzels. We ordered the beer cheese burger and the pb & j burger. The beer cheese burger was epic! We were both stuffed after half a burger. Great flavor on the pieces of bacon and the beer cheese. This was our favorite. The pb and j burger is interesting and filling! It's pretty darn good. I had to ask for extra jelly but it was darn good. Love when restaurants play with flavors and go bold and brave. This was awesome. Although not our favorite, I am certainly happy that we tried it. Unfortunately the fries were not our favorite. They were kind of lacking. I'm not sure if it is the oil or what else it could be but they were just off for both of us. They look like they should be amazing! They look fresh cut but some of our fries seemed as though they were refried or reheated. Waitstaff was nice and attentive for the most part but both of our waters were empty before we finished eating and never got refilled. All of us were pretty sure my dad and I were only getting another round as our glasses were empty and the closest to her. On to the food. Something has happened in the last 2-3 months. All of us felt the food just wasn't very good. Everyone except myself got fries with their food. Their fries were warm but not crisp. I'm not talking about needing to have a crunch but a texture of doneness. I used to steal my wife's fries in the past.. not interested. The tots were a little more done but were also not very enjoyable. My KFC Tenders were confusing. They were greasy and none of the breading/coating was really crisp. Not what I was expecting. My wife and her mom's grilled cheese was basic at best. They ran out of the Texas toast that it's prepared with so they subbed with wheat after checking if that was okay. It happens. One side was grilled the other side was sorta kissed with some heat. The cheese was probably the most disappointing part. It was a single slice of cheese.. I'd call it your Kraft single slice. Context: My wife has ordered many grilled cheeses here and it's never been like this. This left an impression as this was the same way my moms was prepared. The waitress came quickly, brought us water, answered some questions about the beers they make in-house and we got their 3 flight sample. Delicious. My wife got a salad, I got the fish and chips. The fish filets are huge in a beer batter. The best battered fish I've ever had. My wife really enjoyed her salad. They have a huge outdoor covered patio and an area to play corn hole. We were seated by a hostess. We requested a booth and we're sat in the back extremely dark portion of the establishment. There was a booth by the bar but we passed that. This is more of a bar with food than a restaurant. It was loud enough that we had to yell to even have a conversation. Our waitress was the highlight of this first visit to State 48. She was polite and very attentive. I apologize I did not catch her name but she did have blue hair. We ordered a few things because I was testing the restaurant for a future visit by my company for an event. We started with the pretzels and beer cheese. They may feel writing on the board with mustard was decorative but I would have rather had it in a cup. The pretzels were not German or German--like pretzels but pretzel like breadsticks for $12. The beer cheese tasted more of lager than cheese or the blend of the two that was expected. We ordered the roast beef sandwich and the chicken fingers. If you are bring children avoid the bbq sauce because it was good but very spicy. The sandwich was ok but on the dry side and if you use the beer cheese that came with it you lost the taste due to the aforementioned heavy lager taste. If you are coming to State for the bar and bar food it is fine for that. For dinner or event I would find another venue. read more

State 48 is a huge place with a lot of outdoor and indoor space. We were here Saturday for a late lunch. We were hungry when we showed up and we were seated inside as it was full outside. No one (including staff) was wearing masks and I didn't notice any signs asking anyone to do so. Our youngest ordered his kids meal immediately when our waitress arrived so he could get his meal first. We also ordered an appetizer when we ordered our drinks. We got our drinks after a little while. We then ordered our meals. After a VERY long time we got our adult sandwiches, but not my son's grilled cheese sandwich. We still didn't have our pretzel appetizer. Everyone around us was also waiting on food. Our waitress apologized and said they didn't have enough staff in the kitchen and everything was taking a really long time. Half-way into our meals (rueben and deluxe BLT), the waitress brought out the kids meal. At the end of our meal, we got the pretzel appetizer. Arizona is my home and I enjoy supporting local businesses and breweries. Here in the Phoenix metro area, we are blessed with a number of great beer makers. State 48 is one I have heard of, but hadn't had an opportunity to check out until recently. The Rock House at Norterra is close to where I live, so my fiancé and I were excited to check it out for a change. I thought I was familiar with Norterra, but I had no idea where State 48 had setup shop. Eventually, we found it hiding in the back near the Harkins. How a place this huge could be hiding is hard to explain. Seriously, this place is big and it has some cool character. The lighting, the artwork, the music, the mezzanine level, it's all very cool! And the beer is really good too! We each had never sampled any State 48 beers, so we started with a flight to sample a nice cross section. We had our likes and dislikes, but this helped us settle on the beers we ultimately ordered. She likes her Hefeweizen's and I chose an IPA (big shock!). And, much to my liking, they have multiple IPA's to choose from. From the moment we arrived, things went smoothly. We didn't wait long to be seated, despite the fact it was on the busy side. Our server was friendly and made great suggestions since we weren't familiar with the Rock House. And the food was impressive. I'm not sure why this place gets such harsh reviews, we liked it. I'd say our server was "unhappy" but competent. The food and portions were good. We had a burger, tots (5 stars for perfect tots!), house salad with great blue cheese dressing, and decent fish tacos. Beer was the reason we tried this place and it did not disappoint! read more
